This paper presents a new structure for switched-capacitor multilevel inverter with octuple voltage gain capability. The proposed inverter utilizes three capacitors, 13 semiconductor switches, three diodes, and an input voltage source to achieve a 17-level output voltage. The switched capacitors naturally achieve voltage balancing without the need for sensors or additional circuits, indicating the ease of control of the proposed structure. To control the inrush current of the switched capacitors, a charge limiting inductor has been utilized in the charging path of the capacitors. This not only reduces the inrush current of the capacitors and the input source current but also enables faster capacitor charging and extends their lifetime. The switches used in the proposed structure can withstand a maximum of 4 times the input voltage value or the half of the maximum output voltage, which is a significant advantage for the proposed structure. A detailed comparison with similar structures is provided to examine the advantages and disadvantages of the suggested inverter. The procedure of self-voltage balancing of the capacitors and the functional modes of the proposed topology has been explained in detail. The proposed structure is suitable for applications such as renewable energy sources transfer to load or grid. The performance of the proposed topology under different conditions is confirmed through simulation in the Matlab\Simulink software and the implementation of the laboratory sample. Today, multilevel inverters are widely utilized in various applications. Reducing the number of components in the design of these converters is one of the crucial goals so that they have less volume and cost. This paper presents a single‐source structure for a multilevel switched‐capacitor inverter with voltage boost capability. The proposed structure can generate 25 sinusoidal‐like step voltage levels with a six times amplitude increase compared to the input. This converter uses only one direct current (DC) power source, 14 switches, and four capacitors. The nearest level control switching method has been used to control the converter, create voltage levels, and select the switching modes. A comprehensive comparison has been made with other recently presented structures to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed structure. The advantages of the proposed structure include using only one DC voltage source, the ability to increase the output voltage six times compared to the input, the use of fewer power electronics components compared to the number of voltage levels, proper efficiency, self‐balancing of capacitors, and as a result, the lower cost. This paper introduces a new structure of a multi-level inverter (MLI) to generate high-level AC voltages using a low number of switches with a quasi-sine waveform. The small number of driver circuits utilised in bidirectional switches is a salient characteristic of this inverter. Also, the number of conducting switches at each voltage level is low in this structure. This results in lower conduction losses of the switches. The proposed topology can be used as the cascaded structure with different approaches to select the value of voltage sources. Power losses are discussed for the proposed structure. To compare the proposed multi-level inverter and demonstrate its superiority, a comparison has been made with some recently presented topologies. According to the comparison results, the advantage of the proposed structure is producing high voltage levels with a smaller number of switches and driver circuits. To prove the suitable performance of the proposed MLI, a 21-level symmetric and 37-level asymmetric inverter containing 14 switches are designed and simulated in the MATLAB/Simulink program. A laboratory prototype for each of these inverters is implemented. The experimental results finely verify the simulations. Summary: Multilevel inverters have many applications, such as the grid integration of photovoltaic cells, FACTSs devices, electric vehicles, variable speed drives, and smart grids. In this paper, a new bidirectional diode‐based unit is proposed for a symmetric single‐phase modular inverter topology that can achieve high output levels by using a small number of switching and circuit devices. The basic structure can generate nine‐level voltage with only nine IGBTs and two diodes. Another advantage of the proposed topology is the utilization of a half‐bridge module to change the voltage polarity and the low number of its voltage sources. Additionally, the proposed topology can be used as the cascaded structure with different approaches to select the value of voltage sources. The power losses are discussed for the proposed basic module. A comparison has been made with some recently presented topologies to compare the proposed multilevel inverter and demonstrate its superiority. The comparison is performed for the basic module and its generalized structure. In this paper, the pulse width modulation technique is utilized to achieve a voltage waveform with low harmonic content. The proposed basic structure has an efficiency of 58.98% in 5KW power. Multilevel inverters (MLIs) have made great strides in utilizing renewable energy and industrial applications compared to conventional two‐level inverters in terms of output voltage quality, smaller size of the output filter, and higher efficiency. This paper describes a new diode containing bidirectional topology for single‐phase MLI. This structure is presented to reduce the count of switches, isolated voltage sources, and drivers that can increase the number of output levels modularly. This converter, despite the use of diodes, can feed bidirectionally the low power factor inductive–resistive loads. The proposed structure has been designed to achieve a higher output voltage levels relative to the number of switches, drivers, and direct current (DC) voltage sources. Three different algorithms have been proposed to determine the values of DC voltage sources. To confirm the superiority of the proposed structure, a detailed comparison has been carried out with other MLI topologies. Then the proposed topology is simulated in Matlab/Simulink environment using the nearest level modulation technique. This study proposes a multilevel inverter with optimised structure from switching device number point of view. Configuration of the presented multilevel inverter is modular and extendable. Three different methods are introduced to determine the magnitude of DC voltage sources. Characteristics of inverter topology based on suggested methods are given and compared with each other. Also, the proposed multilevel inverter is compared with some similar topologies in terms of controlled switches, driver circuits, DC voltage sources and total blocking voltage to verify its advantages and probable disadvantages where the results show the superiority of the proposed topology in the comparison items. Selective harmonic elimination pulse width modulation technique is applied to achieve output voltage with high quality. Finally, a laboratory prototype of the proposed multilevel inverter is implemented and then, the experimental and simulation results are derived to validate the inverter capability in generating staircase waveforms. Speed control of conventional low-voltage low-power induction motors (LV-LP-IMs) by two-level voltage source inverter (2LVSI) has some difficulties due to limitations of LV-LP-IMs especially insulation system. Besides, the use of multilevel inverters is not cost-effective either. In this paper, the new topology of reduced-switch-count three-level inverter with only eight switches is proposed for speed controlling of LV-LP IM. Eight-switch inverter is a newly three-level converter, which has the fewer number of switching devices, lower cost, smaller volume compared with the conventional three-level inverters, while it has sufficient switching vectors to speed control of IMs. In this paper, the structure and switching vectors of the eight-switch inverter are analyzed, and the direct torque control method based on the switching table and voltage balancing of the DC input voltage are presented for the LV-LP-IM speed control. Simulation results, considering different work conditions, are presented in order to validate finally the good performance of the proposed method.
