It analyzes the behavior of enrollment and academic performance of men and women in careers with low female presence. After creating a set of indexes of gender gaps and internal efficiency, a descriptive and longitudinal statistical analysis of academic registration databases of the programmatic offerings of a public university between 2014 and 2023 was performed. As a result, women apply less to engineering, but once they choose this option, they show a better academic performance. Although female enrollment has expanded, in areas such as engineering there is evidence of lags and gaps. It is women who show higher rates of retention, permanence, approval and timely graduation, in addition to presenting a significantly higher average performance. The argument of lower mathematical competencies of women to explain their professional choices in engineering is questioned. It highlights the importance of socio-educational interventions of attitudinal change that expand their choices to this area. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Presently, women have a more significant presence in various fields, including science, despite enduring stereotypes that label certain disciplines as male-dominated. This research explores the career paths of women in Atlixco, Puebla, through a mixed-method approach. A quantitative analysis was conducted using numerical data from the National Information System of Researchers for 2022. On the qualitative side, the research trajectories of female researchers affiliated with the SNII and working at two Public Higher Education Institutions (IPES) in Atlixco (BUAP and Instituto Tecnológico Superior de Atlixco) were examined. The findings reveal that although the number of female researchers has increased, it remains lower than that of their male counterparts. Women's participation in research in Atlixco is meager, highlighting the need to promote their involvement in scientific activities. Additionally, IPES should support women in postgraduate studies and scientific endeavors to address the region's social and environmental challenges. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The relation between the institutional frameworks and the promotion of gender equality, considering the corporate social responsibility (CSR) movement, has been scarcely analyzed from the experiences of developing economies. We aimed to contribute to fill that gap, bringing to the debate the concepts of emancipation in organizations and support groups. We asked: in which ways, gender equality fostered by initiatives implemented in developing economies by transnational corporations in the form of support groups allow for organizational transformations that strengthen the process of women's emancipation in the corporate world? So, an ethnography was undertaken within a transnational company of the financial sector that operates in Brazil. The results show that these initiatives can only lead to organizational transformations that strengthen women's empowerment if they are inscribed in an institutional framework that guarantees the participation of multiple actors. For decades, feminism has driven a gender equality agenda in development policies. Decolonial and intersectional feminisms, for example, have played an anti-racist and anti-colonial agenda. Women's demands have found different degrees of incorporation into international plans, such as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In this scenario, this work compared gender equality in the MDGs and the SDGs to analyze their advances and challenges in the face of the gender mainstreaming agenda and intersectional and decolonial demands. Documental research was carried out on the objectives, targets, and results of the MDGs and the objectives and targets of the SDGs. The results indicate that the SDGs are more ambitious than the MDGs by adopting a broader and more transversal approach to gender equality. However, there are important gaps in operationalizing an approach to gender inequalities that considers the intersections of different forms of discrimination that affect different groups of women. Throughout history several pandemics have been experienced. However, the current covid-19 disease has caught societies and individuals off guard, leading to social isolation and the experimentation of new work situations, such as distance learning. Since teaching is a feminized profession, in Portugal, in this article we tried to discuss the consequences for female teachers of the double journey at home, accumulating work and family care, which is part of a general logic of neoliberalism. However, we found that despite some changes in legislation and in daily life regarding gender equality, it has essentially fallen to women to take care of their children and younger daughters or older parents. Therefore, in daily practice, there is still a way to go in the teaching profession to effectively lead to gender equality and inclusion for the citizenship of all people. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Law of Civil Rights of Women, No. 10783, of the year 1946, came to be an innovation and a great advance in terms of equality of rights between men and women, this process of gender equality continues without a doubt until the present. In this context, based on the current Constitution when said law was signed (Constitution of 1942), the articles and rights established in the aforementioned law are contrasted and analyzed with the provisions of the constitutional text, to review whether perhaps such rights emanated from the Constitution itself, trying to propose, some way of interpreting it. HUMAN rights organizations , *SEX discrimination , *GENDER inequality , *CORPORATE culture , *SOCIAL services - Abstract
The objective of this review article was to address the different advances in gender equality practices in organizations in three Latin American countries. It highlights the value of gender equality programs or initiatives that position the commitment of organizations to human rights, decent work and social justice. However, there are challenges within organizational culture in the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of those programs. This article emphasizes the importance of making a multidimensional understanding and anchoring between individual processes, organizational practices and organizational culture in order to eliminate discriminatory norms and exclusion practices generated by the various biases and gender stereotypes that are reproduced within organizations on issues such as work-family reconciliation, exercise of leadership, workload, remuneration and lack of knowledge about gender. We problematize gender inequalities surrounding independent theater awards in Córdoba (Argentina) to understand the logic of recognition in an asymmetric world of art. To this end, we theoretically review the criteria of distinction from a gender perspective, considering aesthetic and extra-aesthetic aspects of the works, as well as the notion of genius, historically associated with the role of direction. We also analyze the recognition and self-recognition of women and dissidence in directorial roles. We then examine public and private spheres as organizers of theatrical practices. We examine the case of the Provincial Theater Awards. We include statistical data, systematize the repercussions of the 2019 edition and compare positions on possible affirmative or transformative solutions regarding the injustices involved in recognition. This paper aims to verify if the companies that prepared their reports observing the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standard and that were submitted to an auditand if the companies that are part of the Corporate Sustainability Index (ISE) portfolio adopt greater disclosure of gender equality. It was analyzed 61 sustainability reports published in 2019, in the GRI standard. From the adoption of a quantitative method, the results of the study demonstrate that Brazilian companies have an average level of 51.9% disclosure of the GRI guidelines related to SDG5. Furthermore, It was found that the assurance of the reports positively affects the disclosure of the SDG5, while the company's participation in the ISE did not present statistical significance. This paper presents an intervention performed with public school first-graders which approached gender equality and girls' and women's empowerment, in order to fight violence against the ones who do not fit into the socially demanded naturalized gender discourses. As a tool to approach such themes, we used children's books, and we performed interactivereflective activities in a range of ten meetings. We analyzed data with the help of Discourse Analysis. We conclude that, by offering spaces to debate and to criticize naturalized speeches in the researched classroom setting, children are able to reflect about inequalities still thrusted on boys/men and on girls/women, and construct alternatives to fight gender inequalities in society. Therefore, we understand that the intervention we performed may be embraced by teachers and other professionals who intend to raise awareness about fighting the exclusion and the violence caused by gender inequality, to encourage the existence of (more) spaces for similar activities, and to spread the potential of such debates. This study aims to identify the challenges faced by Brazilian women who travel alone. It reflects on the process of seeking female independence and around the structural machismo present, both in the daily lives of women, as in the scope of the tourist activity. The feminist movements were important in this journey and represent their achievements in an expressive way. In this context, the female identity is less and less influenced by traditional family roles. To obtain results in the research we chose to conduct a focus group, through a meeting with five volunteer participants, who have experiences in traveling alone. The reports were the basis for the analysis that seeks to punctuate, expose, clarify, and highlight the challenges, accomplishments, and perspectives related to the central theme. The results indicate the search for self-knowledge, motivated by the desire for a sense of freedom and opposition to social paradigms, including in the family context., Este estudio pretende identificar los desafíos que enfrentan las mujeres brasileñas que viajan solas. - Abstract
The reality of a global world reconfigures the relationship between accessibility (or its absence), social exclusion and gender inequality. This relationship challenge the mobility system and in particular its universal and neutral solutions, disconnected from the needs and aspirations of mobility and accessibility of women and men in their relationship with social production and reproduction. These issues are associated with the fast-technological evolution and the solutions it offers to the daily space-time needs of women and men. This article discusses how mobile devices (smartphones and trackers) can be used to promote policies for reconciling daily mobility, usually called 'home-work' commuting. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

What are the limits of individual freedom? John Stuart Mill, who was an ardent advocate of liberty as a fundamental value, held that one could not freely choose to be unfree, and posited the extreme example of a person who willingly sells himself as a slave. His example has generated a debate about the consistency of Mill's positions. This article reviews this debate and tries to clarify his point of view using several convergent lines of argument: paternalism, slavery, the definition of property rights and public intervention of the state in markets, and marriage and gender equality. ABSTRACT This research was inspired by the polemics regarding the existence of sexist practices which generate oppression in gender matters that have been institutionalized in Law and which negatively affect society. For that, this research valued the behaviour of the gender equality principle in the historical evolution of the Cuban Constitutionalism of the XXth and XXIst centuries in order to determine the effective equality among the sexes. In order to achieve that, methods such as the historical-judicial and the exegetical-judicial were employed. The development of the research branched into three epigraphs in which an analysis was performed to the mechanism for institutionalization of gender violences in Cuba, evident in the constitutions of 1901 and up to the 1976 chart, with a sexist writing technique in order to provoke new looks to gender thanks to the process of constitutional reform in 2019.

To analyze progress in organizational structures, mechanisms, strategies, and enabling factors and barriers towards gender mainstreaming (GM) in health in Guatemala, Guyana, and Peru, given GM's role in addressing gender inequalities in health as a key structural driver of health equity.Data was obtained through a grey literature review of laws, policies, and/or program documents and semi-structured qualitative interviews with 37 informants. Analysis was based on a theoretical framework including 7 categories considered essential to advance GM in the health sector.Despite significant efforts and accumulated experiences of GM in health, structural barriers include: wider societal challenges of transforming gender unequal power relations; health system complexity combined with the low technical, political, and financial capacity of institutional structures tasked with GM; and limited coordination with (often weak) National Women's Machineries (NWMs). In some contexts, barriers are compounded by limited understanding of basic concepts underlying GM (at times exacerbated by misunderstandings related to intersectionality and/or engagement with men) and the absence of indicators to measure GM's concrete results and impact.Successful GM requires a more strategic and transformational agenda, developed and implemented in coordination with NWMs and civil society and with reference to external bodies (e.g. Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women) to go beyond process, with clearer distinction between gender sensitivity and gender transformation, and definition of expected results and indicators to measure advances. These then could be better documented and systematized, enabling GM to be more broadly understood and operationalized as a concrete instrument towards health equity.

In the Chile of 2020, 53.9% of enrollments in higher education institutions correspond to women. However, only 20.3% are enrolled in STEM programs. The gap is due to factors that negatively impact women before entering and during their studies. Therefore, public policies are needed to help encourage more women to study STEM-related programs, along with improving their retention rate. The objective of the research is to propose solutions that contribute to gender equity. The proposal considers a quantitative, explanatory and non-experimental methodology. Through a survey of 3500 citizens, the main conditions and challenges faced by women in STEM programs were identified. Subsequently, a quantitative analysis of the results obtained was carried out, and the main causes of the conditions can be grouped into five areas of action. Finally, Hack4women is developed as a collaborative and co-creation space, where the participation of the State, companies, citizens, academia and students is highlighted. The coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) challenged educators, especially female teachers, as they shouldered the double burden of being both teachers and spouses. This study articulates the online teaching experiences of Indonesian women that work as elementary school teachers. Moreover, the study explores strategies implemented by these teachers to overcome this career-family dichotomy. Carried out in Indonesia’s East Java province, this descriptive mixed method study surveyed 347 married female teachers, 212 of which have school-aged children. Results showed that home-based online teaching created additional burdens for female teacher and they experienced workload resulting from this dual role, further emphasized by the expectation of domestic duties that are primarily enforced on women. Several strategies, including time management, involving their husbands in domestic chores — that strengthened their social support —, and simultaneously teaching their own children along with their students, were implemented. Therefore, couple’s negotiations regarding role division are needed to achieve gender equality within familial structures.
