This resource list was developed as part of the Emerging Scholars in K-12 Service-Learning Research Seminar, held at the University of Maryland on June 14-16, 2007 and hosted by The Center for Information & Research on Civic Learning & Engagement (CIRCLE), University of Maryland; the Center for Youth and Communities, Brandeis University; and the International Center for Research on Civic Engagement and Service-Learning (ICR-CESL), University of California-Berkeley. The Emerging Scholars in K-12 Service-Learning Research Seminar was sponsored by the Service-Learning Leaders Circle/National Service-Learning Partnership through funds generously provided by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. This resource list initially included suggestions from the 15 prominent researchers and 10 emerging scholars participating in the Seminar. Building on that list, I reviewed over 500 articles for service-learning content resulting in this current list of 93 potential research publishing opportunities. The Ulrich database and various web searches provided detailed information on each of the publications. In addition, the journals and periodicals listed on the National Service-Learning Clearinghouse website have been incorporated into this document.

The organizations listed in this reference circular provide a variety of direct services to persons who are blind and visually impaired, including advocacy and advisory services, information and referral, counseling and employment programs, assistive devices, and publications in special format. Many of the organizations also offer guidance to families of persons with visual impairments and training for professionals, and many publish journals, brochures, newsletters, and catalogs. The major publications are specified. The first section lists national organizations alphabetically with an annotation that describes the services provided. The second section lists organizations on specific eye diseases and eye injuries, and the third section lists international organizations. The fourth section includes publications that list the names of organizations that serve persons in the United States and other countries who are blind or visually impaired, organizations with tactile map collections, producers and distributors of braille and large-print reading materials and assistive devices for reading, and Web sites with links to online resources. The last section lists state agencies that administer public programs in special education and rehabilitation services. (AEF)

This guide provides an introduction to many different types and sources of social studies materials. The guide is divided into three sections representing classroom material, outreach activities, and professional resources. Each section is subdivided by resource type. Larger sections use categories to facilitate location of material by curriculum field; the typical arrangement of categories is General, Anthropology/Cultures, Civics, Economics, Geography, and History. Smaller sections are alphabetically arranged by the title of the resource, organization, or program. The first section covers "Classroom Instructional Resources," such as textbooks, trade books, multimedia resources, curriculum guides, journals, Web sites, dramatizations and model programs, games and simulations, and human resources. The second section covers "Outreach Activities," which typically involve experiences with learning sites or programs which are located or originate outside the school building. The third section covers "Professional Development and Planning Resources" for teachers. The index provides integrated access by subject and organization to all 845 entries. (BT)

Sections are organized by: resources for teachers; resources for students; works concerning civic participation; United States history; and videos, Web sites, and agencies. This annotated subject guide lists reference material that deals with Native Americans and is available in the Arizona State University Libraries. Entries were published 1933-98, but mostly in the 1980s-90s. The guide is not comprehensive, but rather a selective list of resources useful for researching a topic in a variety of fields. The guide includes dictionaries, encyclopedias, guides and handbooks, genealogy materials, directories, biographies, bibliographies, statistics, atlases, travel guides, and indexes and abstracts. This guide to Missouri State Government documents is intended to help information professionals and the general public locate electronic state information in a timely fashion. Only state agencies are included, with a few exceptions where deemed appropriate. The guide is divided into two sections. The first is an alphabetical keyword/title index. The second section provides Web addresses and is organized by Agency/Executive Office. An appendix lists Web sites for state census information. (AEF)

This compendium of more than 80 clearinghouses, libraries, research centers, youth development organizations, and publishers is intended as a resource for professionals, volunteers, funders, grant writers, researchers, educators, and others who work with or on behalf of young people with and without disabilities. It provides a preliminary list of resource centers and services that have been identified by the youth development field as providing useful information. Each of the sources of information listed either publishes, distributes, or electronically links a customer to information on youth services, statistics and funding information, or databases of specialized youth-related material. Each entry within the compendium provides a summary of the purpose and activities of the information source, selected publications and resources, and a description of the contents of its Internet site, if one exists. Information sources are listed in alphabetical order in the table of contents, indexed by subject categories and the publications and electronic resources available, to assist the reader in identifying the correct information source. This reference circular lists United States sources of braille books and magazines available for loan, purchase, rental, or free distribution. Each source entry contains the name, address, telephone and fax number, Internet address (if available), and a brief description of the source. The first two sections list general and religious sources of braille books and magazines, the third section lists sources for jumbo braille and print-braille, the fourth section lists major braille presses and transcription services, and the last section provides resources for further information. This circular was compiled from catalogs and other literature submitted by agencies and organizations in response to a survey conducted by the Reference Section. Many of the responses indicated that materials are available on cassette and in large print as well as braille, but this publication is limited to braille sources. (Author/SWC)

This annotated bibliography of selected sources introduces the novice genealogy researcher to the basic tools of this intriguing and popular pastime. With a focus on sources from and about Ireland, the bibliography presents print and electronic sources that will assist in researching family history as well as offer reviews of recent electronic developments that track and record genealogical research. This catalog update lists over 150 end-products of projects sponsored by Human Resources Development Canada under the Child Care Initiatives Fund. These child care resources include: final reports, manuals, books, conference proceedings, videos, kits, and pamphlets. The catalog is produced in a loose-leaf format to allow for annual updates, and each resource is listed numerically by project number. Comprehensive multiple indexing allows searching by name (sponsor and author), title, and subject. Each resource entry contains the following information: title, sponsor, address, telephone, FAX, contact person, product type, language, author or editor, availability, and abstract. (AP)

This reference circular lists titles and sources of audiovisual materials on visual and physical disabilities. It also includes topics such as accessibility, assistive technology, education, employment, and recreation as they relate to disabilities. The information is compiled from catalogs and descriptive brochures from producers, distributors, and organizations in the United States. The titles are arranged alphabetically under broad subject headings, and each entry includes, where available, the year of production, length, price for purchase or rental, and additional sources. This annotated bibliography is a guide to selected resources available for television research at the University of Georgia Libraries. It centers on publications found in the Reference Department of the Main Library but also cites a number of important sources located elsewhere in the building or on the university campus. A description is provided in the introduction of the Libraries' two Main Reference computer networks which provide indexing for books, articles in periodicals, and other research materials.
