A personal narrative is presented which explores the author's experience of being highlighting two features from the May/June 2022 issue of Online Searcher, and the first takes a look at the potential comeback of the news librarian profession.

The article focuses on the Knowledge management (KM) is the conscious process of defining, retaining and sharing the knowledge and experience of employees within an organization. Topics include KM community is the best-prepared to help education move from the lukewarm one-size-fits-all style to one that will encourage individualized lifelong learning; and KM can help educators innovate.

The article focuses on column from November/December 2019 issue of Online Searcher related to smart gadgets. Topics discussed include information on hacker vulnerability in lights, cameras, and baby monitors that are linked through a central hub; Carly Lamphere's Internet Express column, which covers all sorts of household smart gadgets; and librarian ability to see the enterprise-wide info ecosystem.

The article focuses on the issue of Big Data Quarterly (BDQ) and three from the Autumn issue of EContent. Topic include the Europa column syncs quite nicely with the Accidental Data Scientist column in EContent; and based on research findings that consensus among the scientific community helps credibility.

He discusses data collection during natural disasters as critical, issue on Adobe's voice-generation/manipulation option within its Creative Suite package, in which the aim of the still-in-beta VOCO software is to help video and sound editor, and the use of smartwatches.

The article presents the author's insights about the role of technology in the news and information industries. Topics include the storage and preservation of digital data, news preservation effort by the news and information industries, and the Journalism Digital News Archive initiative for news preservation and preservation of digital news content.

The article presents information on relationship of library personnel and information technology staff. Lisa Ennis, the systems librarian at the Lister Hill Library of the Health Sciences at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, put together a top 10 list of tips for bridging the gap between these two often at-odds groups. Ennis notes that often computer errors differ by a single number or letter in a 50-character line. Making sure the technician is given the correct error message will definitely speed up the process, as will giving a detailed description of what you were doing on the computer when the problem arose.

The article presents reports about intelligence which were published in the April issues of different journals. In the article "Tales of Technology Innovation Gone Wrong" in the journal "Computers in Libraries," the author notes that it is often the bloopers that generate new questions and redesigns that ultimately lead to success. Susanne Bjørner writes about Ordinary Wizarding Level in "The CyberSkeptic's Guide to Internet Research." Although in transitional mode, the site is clean and crisp, says Bjørner. In "Competitive Intelligence Resources in Law Firms," Kitty Schweyer tells readers to think outside the box to test how products are meeting their competitive intelligence needs.

The article provides an overview of several papers about information technology. In "Building a Web-Based Laboratory so Users Can Experiment With New Services," Jason Battles and Jody Combs posit that librarians are not as adept at taking the time to find out what patrons really want. In "When InterNET Is InterNOT," Arno Rueser shares six basic aspects of Internet bias and search queries that can be used to show how a skilled librarian can outperform the typical Internet searcher . In "'Copyfraud' and Public Domain Works," Carol Ebbinghouse looks at reasons why people and corporations place copyright symbols on public domain items and then centers on four basic questions pertaining to the complexities that often make copyright law confusing.

The article considers three features about Web services that were published in the April 2007 issue of other information technology publications. In "SUSHI: What It Is and Why You Should Care," which appeared in "Computers in Libraries," the author explained why National Information Standards Organization made the Standardized Usage Statistics Harvesting Initiative. "The CyberSkeptic's Guide to Internet Research" published the report "Live Search Academic--New Kid in Town or Also-Ran?" which discusses the pros and cons of Microsoft's Windows Live Search Academic. The authors of "Google Book Search Libraries and Their Digital Copies: What Now?" investigated how the Web service will use its copies of digitized books.

The article discusses issues related to information technology and library management. Librarians are advised to learn their network. This requires the need to secure ports which are exposed to the Internet at servers as well as programs running on personal computers. Library managers must give only the tools needed by the staff to do their jobs. Information ethics must also be observed. It covers the areas of intellectual property rights and equitable access. Funding resources are also important to library management.

This article discusses various issues and challenges that can be possibly encountered in the field of IT. After attending the 2003 Computers in Libraries conference. Lisa McColl, technical services librarian for the Ryan Memorial Library at the Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was brimming with ideas. Foremost in her mind was incorporating a new open source courseware program, Library Course Builder, so that teachers could post syllabi and class notes online and the library could simultaneously link students to appropriate, course-related resources. But after the Library Course Builder became available, the once promising project was almost derailed. Once in hand, the three discovered that the program's dynamic Web page option was really too elaborate for the seminary's needs. However, instead of giving up, the women developed a workable alternative which is to do their own alterations to the basic courseware pattern. Separately, focusing on the evolving habits of content users within work and academic settings, industry executive Roger Strouse of Outsell provides ideas on how information providers can be part of this user evolution. He centers on four broad trends, or shifts, that Outsell has identified as factors affecting how content users are seeking out information.

The article discusses several articles about information technology and libraries. Karen Coombs, information technology and instruction librarian at the State University of New York chronicles how she created a single interface that would allow users to search all holdings catalogs at once. She decided to use XML as her mode of operation. Coombs' key to victory was making the two lists appear to be one on the Web by linking two pieces of data, the ISSN number and title. In another article, Matthew McBride focuses on two of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) executive offices as well as its seven primary mission areas. McBride summarizes the types of information available from the seven primary mission areas. Farm and Foreign Agricultural Services aims to keep U.S. farmers growing through uncertain weather and economic times. The mission of the Rural Development area is to improve the economy and quality of life for residents in rural America. Irene McDermott, on the other hand, wrote about Web sites that can help people get a handle on the different candidates for the presidential election. McDermott recommends a number of good overview sites, such as CNN's American Votes 2004, Presidential Primary Preview and Democracy in Action: P2004.

The article evaluates the Google Glass, a type of wearable technology developed by Google with the mission of producing a mass-market ubiquitous computer.

The article presents an update on the publications released by Information Today, Inc. Topics discussed include the merger between "The Information Advisor" and "The Cyberskeptic's Guide to Internet Research" into "The Information Advisor' Guide to Internet Research" and the decision not to make revisions on "Intranets." The content of the premier issue of "The Information Advisor's Guide" is mentioned.

The article profiles David Myron, the editor of "CRM" and "Speech Technology" magazines owned by Information Today Inc. He originally worked as senior editor of "CRM" magazine for more than two years beginning in 2001 focusing on customer service and contact center strategies. Currently, he is the editorial director of "Speech Technology" and "CRM." A brief information on the history of "CRM" is presented.

This section highlights three articles on various information technology-related issues published in the June 2005 issues of several computer journals. In the article Protecting User Privacy in the Age of Digital Libraries, Karen A. Coombs explains how she implemented a series of privacy measures in her library to ensure that users' personal data remains just that--personal. In a library, all sorts of user information can be collected through a wide range of services. After identifying what kind of user data was being stored and where it was being kept in the library system of the State University of New York, Cortland, New York, Coombs determined which items were necessary for daily library operations. In Finding Copyrights and Trademarks for Free, Genie Tyburski, Web manager of The Virtual Chase, looks at the types of information pertaining to trademark and copyright that can be found for free online. Meanwhile, in Crop, Stick, and Stamp: Scrapbooking Resources on the Web, Paula Berinstein discusses the significance of scrapbooking. Berinstein writes that scrapbooking comes in two flavors: traditional and digital. Her article gives readers the best places to go online for both ventures.

This article discusses several aspects of information technology published in several periodicals. The Southern Oregon Digital Archives features the First Nations/Tribal Bioregional collections. The first real challenge was forming a team and assigning responsibilities. The scanned material was made available on the Web through the Archival Ware from Progressive Technology Federal Systems, Inc. which combines database searching and Portable Document Format navigation. In an article by John Lescher, he presented a brief history of the term, political correctness. The term may have roots going as far back as the late 1700s but began to be popular in the 1970s. Through quotes and Uniform Resource Locators, Lescher attempts to give alternating opinions on a topic that is about as likely to stir up raucous responses as legislators debating the Iraq war. Part of the problem of giving fair and equal treatment to the issue of political correctness is that the majority of Web results take a critical slant. Some critics believe the basic goals of applying political correctness speech are valid and generally supportive. However, they also feel that the new terminology is clumsy and obscures real meanings.

This section comments on several articles about information services and information technology. Online Programming for All Libraries (OPAL) is a great illustration that unity produces much better results than discord. As Lori Bell and Thomas A. Peters write in the article, Online Programming Can Be a Library Oasis on the Internet, in the November/December 2004 issue of Computers in Libraries, OPAL, spearheaded by organizations such as the Mid-Illinois Talking Book Center and the Alliance Library System, is helping to create a place where patrons can participate in book discussions, children can attend virtual story times, and persons of all ages can learn how to search the online catalog in interactive training and demonstration. The article, Protect Yourself & Your Computer, by John Lescher in the November/December 2004 issue of The CyberSkeptic's Guide to Internet Research, offers tips on how users can avoid being reeled in by unsavory Net sharks. Blended threats, which combine the characteristics of viruses, worms, Trojan horses, and malicious code, are increasing at a significant rate. Other online crime, such as phishing, is also rising at an alarming rate. The biggest defense of users is to stay up-to-date by installing the patches that software vendors provide. In the article, Government Printing Office (GPO): Transformation Underway, in the November/December 2004 issue of Searcher, Miriam Drake reports that the GPO is reinventing itself and how it delivers information to the nation. But technology is changing how the GPO gathers, stores, disseminates, and preserves documents and data. As a direct result, a number of issues are spurring the agency's makeover. The Government Accountability Office (GAO) wrote a report to address concerns such as how to revive the sagging sales program of the GPO, which is losing substantial revenue due in part to people's growing reliance on the Internet.
