In this work, solution cast method was adapted for the preparation of 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium dicyanamide (EMImDCN)-doped solid polymer electrolyte. Optimum composition of polymer electrolyte (polyethylene oxide + sodium iodide) was treated as the host polymer. The ionic conductivity was further enhanced by adding low-viscosity ionic liquid (IL) EMImDCN. Electrical, thermal, dielectric, and photoelectrochemical properties of polymer host and IL-doped solid polymer electrolyte (ILDPE) are presented in detail. An electrochemical device, that is, dye-sensitized solar cell was fabricated using maximum conducting ILDPE film, which shows short-circuit current density of 0.118 mA/cm2, open-circuit voltage of 0.71 V, and overall efficiency of 0.061% at 1 sun condition. In order to fabricate a highly efficient super capacitor, a noble material, graphene oxide (GO), is synthesized by simple electrochemical synthesis method. The chosen source material is an ordinary graphite rod extracted from Nippo battery. Raman spectroscopy as well as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy affirms the formation of highly pure GO. The super capacitor is fabricated with prepared graphene oxide based electrodes and ionic liquid as electrolyte and tissue paper as separator. The prepared cell shows promising results, a high capacitance value of 78.82 F g−1 at 20 mV s−1 scan rate. This study demonstrates a simplistic and effectual approach to prepare non‐porous carbon for which nitrogen is doped in poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) in presence of catalyst cobalt chloride (COCl2). Characterization of the prepared non‐porous carbon is carried out using Raman, X‐ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller. The calculated surface area of the prepared carbon is 15.78 m2 g−1. To compare the performance of prepared non‐porous carbon with pure PVC as an electrode material for supercapacitor application, two EDLC cells are prepared. In both the cells, 1‐ethyl‐3‐methylimidazolium thiocyanate (ionic liquid) is used as an electrolyte and filter paper is used as a separator. Six times increment is found in the specific capacitance value of EDLC prepared using nitrogen‐doped carbon (NC‐CO) than prepared using pure PVC. The calculated specific capacitance values using low‐frequency impedance spectroscopy are 62.28 and 7 F g−1, respectively, for NC‐CO and pure PVC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the present work, comparative studies on two ion‐conducting materials, 1‐butyl‐3‐methylimidazolium chloride (BMIMCl) as ionic liquid (IL) and polymer ionic liquid blend, are reported. For the synthesis of polymer ionic liquid blend system, BMIMCl as ionic liquid, PVDF‐HFP and acetonitrile as a solvent are used. The different polymer ionic liquid blend is prepared by adopting universal solution cast technique and electrolyte sample is optimized mixing IL in the polymer by maintaining ratio 1:4. The impedance plot is observed by LCR Hi‐TESTER. The optimized sample of electrolyte system shows higher ionic conductivity of the order ≈10−3 S cm−1. The Arrhenius behavior is found from the temperature dependence conductivity plot, giving activation energy of Ea ≈ 0.073 eV. The ionic transference number is calculated for IL and optimized polymer ionic liquid blend. Electrical potential window stability is observed for IL and polymer ionic liquid blend. The fabrication of electrochemical double layer capacitors (EDLCs) is done by sandwiching ion conducting materials between two carbon electrodes. The specific capacitance of EDLC cell: AC ||(PVDF‐HFP (20 wt%) + (BMIMCl) (80 wt%)|| AC and AC ||BMIMCl|| AC, gives highest capacitance value ≈116.9 and 96.5 mF cm−2 equivalent to single electrode capacitance 54.57 and 52.6 F g−1, respectively, by cyclic voltammetry studies at 1 mV s−1 scan rate. This paper reports the synthesis, characterization and dual electrochemical application of a new kind of ionic liquid (IL) based polymer electrolyte. The ionic liquid 1, 2-dimethyl-3-propylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide (DMPImTFSI) and polymer Poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP) have been chosen for present study. The electrical conductivity measurement shows many fold enhancement of ionic conductivity by blending IL into polymer matrix. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) image confirms the uniform surface morphology of the synthesized thin film and cross-section image shows the interface layer of polymer and electrode. We have fabricated an efficient dye sensitized solar cell (DSSC) and electric double layer capacitor (EDLC) using IL-polymer electrolyte (optimized maximum conductivity) system which further affirms that this material is highly stable and reliable for long duration in energy devices.
