We identify a fading AGN SDSS J220141.64+115124.3 from the internal Product Launch-11 (MPL-11) in Mapping Nearby Galaxies at Apache Point Observatory (MaNGA) survey. The central region with a projected radius of |$\sim$| 2.4 kpc is characterized as LINER-like line ratios while the outskirts extended to |$\sim$| 15 kpc show Seyfert-like line ratios. The |${\rm{[O {\small III}]}}$| |$\lambda$| 5007 luminosity of the Seyfert regions is a factor of 37 (2) higher than the LINER regions without (with) dust attenuation correction, suggesting that the AGN activity decreases at least |$\sim$| 8 |$\times$| 10 |$^3$| yr (⁠|$\sim$| 2.4 kpc/light-speed) ago. We model the emission line spectra in the central region with double Gaussian components (a narrow core and a broad wing) and analyse the properties of each component. The narrow core component mostly co-rotates with the stellar disc, whereas the broad wing component with a median of the velocity dispersion |$\sim$| 300 km s |$^{-1}$| is related to a wind outflow. The kinematic position angle (PA) of the ionized gas shows an |$\sim 20^{\circ }$| twist from the galaxy centre to 1.5 effective radius. The median of the PA difference between the gas and stellar components is as large as |$\sim 50^{\circ }$| within 0.4 effective radius. The tidal feature in DESI image and star–gas misalignment suggest this galaxy is a merger remnant. Combining all these observational results as well as public available X-ray and MIR luminosities, we confirm this is a fading AGN, the merger process kick-started the central engine to quasar phase which ionized gas composed of tidal debris, and now the activity of the central black hole decreases. The discontinuity in |${\rm{[O {\small III}]}}$| |$\lambda$| 5007 flux and EQW maps is due to multiple AGN outbursts triggered by merger remnant gas inflows. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Using the integral field spectroscopic data from Mapping Nearby Galaxies at Apache Point Observatory survey, we study the kinematics and stellar population properties of the two counter-rotating stellar discs in a nearby galaxy SDSS J074834.64+444117.8. We disentangle the two stellar discs by three methods, including Ca  ii  λ8542 double Gaussian fit, penalized pixel fitting (pPXF) spectral decomposition, and orbit-based dynamical model. These three different methods give consistent stellar kinematics. The pPXF spectral decomposition provides the spectra of two stellar discs, with one being more luminous across the whole galaxy named primary disc, and the other named secondary disc. The primary disc is counter-rotating with ionized gas, while the secondary disc is co-rotating with ionized gas. The secondary disc has younger stellar population and poorer stellar metallicity than the primary disc. We estimate the stellar mass ratio between the primary and secondary discs to be ∼5.2. The DESI g, r, z colour image does not show any merger remnant feature in this galaxy. These findings support a scenario that the counter-rotating stellar discs in SDSS J074834.64+444117.8 formed through gas accretion from the cosmic web or a gas-rich companion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Using the integral field unit (IFU) data from Mapping Nearby Galaxies at Apache Point Observatory (MaNGA) survey, we collect a sample of 36 star-forming galaxies that host galactic-scale outflows in ionized gas phase. The control sample is matched in the three-dimensional parameter space of stellar mass, star formation rate, and inclination angle. Concerning the global properties, the outflows host galaxies tend to have smaller size, more asymmetric gas disc, more active star formation in the centre, and older stellar population than the control galaxies. Comparing the stellar population properties along axes, we conclude that the star formation in the outflows host galaxies can be divided into two branches. One branch evolves following the inside-out formation scenario. The other located in the galactic centre is triggered by gas accretion or galaxy interaction, and further drives the galactic-scale outflows. Besides, the enhanced star formation and metallicity along minor axis of outflows host galaxies uncover the positive feedback and metal entrainment in the galactic-scale outflows. Observational data in different phases with higher spatial resolution are needed to reveal the influence of galactic-scale outflows on the star formation progress in detail. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

High-resolution observations of ionized and molecular gas in the nuclear regions of galaxies are indispensable for delineating the interplay of star formation, gaseous inflows, stellar radiation, and feedback processes. Combining our new Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array band 3 mapping and archival Very Large Telescope/MUSE data, we present a spatially resolved analysis of molecular and ionized gas in the central 5.4 kpc region of NGC 1365. We find the star formation rate/efficiency (SFR/SFE) in the inner circumnuclear ring is about 0.4/1.1 dex higher than in the outer regions. At a linear resolution of 180 pc, we obtain a superlinear Kennicutt–Schmidt law, demonstrating a steeper slope (1.96 ± 0.14) than previous results presumably based on lower-resolution observations. Compared to the northeastern counterpart, the southwestern dust lane shows lower SFE, but denser molecular gas and larger virial parameters. This is consistent with an interpretation of negative feedback from an active galactic nucleus (AGN) and/or starburst, in the sense that the radiation/winds can heat and interact with the molecular gas even in relatively dense regions. After subtracting the circular motion component of the molecular gas and the stellar rotation, we detect two prominent noncircular motion components of molecular and ionized hydrogen gas, reaching a line-of-sight velocity of up to 100 km s−1. We conclude that the winds or shocked gas from the central AGN may expel the low-density molecular gas and diffuse ionized gas on the surface of the rotating disk. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
