The studies conducted in Iran have reported different prevalence rates for this condition. This systematic review and meta-analysis were aimed at estimating the prevalence of iron deficiency anemia in Iranian children under 6 years of age.Methodology: Persian and English articles published from 2001 to 2018 were collected. The search process was conducted in national and international databases, including SID, MagIran, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science, using the following keywords and their combinations: Iron, Iron deficiency, Iron deficiency anemia, Ferritin, Child, Children, and Iran. The data were analyzed using the meta-analysis and random effects model. Heterogeneity was assessed using the I2, statistic. All analyses were performed using the STATA software, version 12.Results: Analysis of six selected articles with a total sample size of 1,700 showed that the prevalence rates of iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia in the Iranian children under 6 years of age were 27.7% (95% CI: 11.9–43.5) and 18.2% (95% CI: 14.3–22), respectively. In addition, the prevalence of iron deficiency anemia was higher in boys (17.7% with 95% CI: 5.9–29.5) than in girls (14.4% with 95% CI: 4.5–24.2).Conclusion: About one-fifth of Iranian children under the age of 6 years suffer from iron deficiency anemia. Identification of those at risk of developing this condition with the goal of prevention, diagnosis, and treatment seems to be an important and necessary task. Keywords: anemia, iron deficiency anemia, iron, meta-analysis, Iran, prevalence

Shrimp aquaculture has developed rapidly in 1980s decade and this development caused to increase shrimp diseases in farms. In the last 0f 1980s and first of 1990s find of health shrimp Postlarvae for stocking was hard. In Iran also after two decades diseases are the main problems, then a national project (Shrimp SPF production) was performed that this section was monitoring and identification of viral pathogens in that project. For this propose selected shrimps in farms was sampled and screened for main viruses (OIE list), shrimps without infection bring to quarantine system for one month and in the end of quarantine period were screened again. Then in winter spending, before and after spawning, it’s offspring in F1 and F2 also screened for viral pathogens by IQ2000 kit in Iranian veterinary organization lab. Moreover all shrimp feeds in clouding: fresh feed, live feed and pellet feed had been screened for OIE viral pathogens listed for three years. Results of viruses screening in shrimp sampled in all stages of project and feed that use in this project were negative. This project (SPF shrimp production in IRAN) performed successfully, we think this success relate to biosecurity system that were influence in this project.

It is known that neuropeptide Y which is widely distributed throughout the central nervous system is able to prevent seizures in animals. There are limited studies about the role of neuropeptide Y in febrile seizures. This study was conducted to evaluate the association between plasma neuropeptide Y level and febrile seizures in children. Seventy six patients with typical and atypical febrile seizures (each group 38 patients) and 38 sex and age matched control subjects were enrolled. The mean plasma levels of neuropeptide Y in typical and atypical febrile seizures were 90.60±28.01 and 97.34±41.27 pmol/l respectively. This value in control group was 88.94±32.66 pmol/l. There was no significant differences between groups regarding plasma neuropeptide Y level (P=0.532). Also, there was no significant difference in comparison with case groups (P=0.40). This study revealed that there is no association between plasma neuropeptide Y and febrile seizures.

In a study carried out in the Ghassreghand Division (Baluchistan, Iran) from March through November 1995, efficacy of cyfluthrin-impregnated bednets was compared to that of untreated nets, in relation to malaria control. Ten villages with a total population of 4,572 and 3 villages with a total population of 1,935 were used as treatment and control, respectively. The collection, impregnation (target dosage of 40 mg active ingredient [AI]/m2), and redistribution of the nets (9% nylon, 52% light cotton, 30% medium cotton, and 9% heavy cotton), carried out in mid-April, were done by local health workers, supervised by the senior research staff. Anopheles culicifacies was considered to be the main vector of malaria in the named area. This species is mainly zoophilic, endophilic, and exophagic. The initial uptake of the insecticide was lower than the target dosage, with high variation (nylon, 12.5 +/- 5.4 mg AI/m2; light cotton, 33.3 +/- 26.1 mg AI/m2; medium cotton, 25.9 +/- 20 mg AI/m2; heavy cotton, 17.6 +/- 12.5 mg AI/m2). The use of impregnated mosquito nets (used primarily outside) had no significant effect on the incidence of malaria. No difference was detected in the parasite density of patients with positive slides. No significant effect was observed in the parous rate, human blood index, and sporozoite rate of anopheline vectors. Only the indoor resting densities of An. culicifacies and other malaria vectors were drastically reduced after the introduction of the cyfluthrin-impregnated nets into the treatment villages. The residual activity of cyfluthrin was lower than expected. The mortality of anophelines brought in contact with the treated nets for 3 min in bioassays dropped to less than 55% in 3 months. The loss of chemical activity was greatest for the light cotton nets, followed by the medium cotton nets. Cyfluthrin-treated nets were mildly irritating to host-seeking female anophelines in the laboratory. The protective rate of impregnation (all fabric kinds included) in preventing female mosquitoes from biting through the impregnated nets was initially 5-6 times that of the nonimpregnated nets. The study did not detect any significant difference between the use of untreated versus impregnated bednets in the Ghassreghand area. In planning future medium-scale trials, comparison of new compounds and formulations to the more widely used pyrethroids such as permethrin and deltamethrin is highly recommended.

Background & Aim: Needlestick injuries (NSIs) are a serious occupational hazard for health care providers and nurses that are often not reported for various reasons. Several studies have reported a different rate of this great challenge. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to estimate the prevalence of under-reporting of NSIs in healthcare providers in Iran. Methods & Materials: By searching national and international databases including SID, Magiran, Google Scholar, IranMedex, Science Direct, PubMed and Scopus, 19 published articles were extracted. Data analysis was carried out through the random-effects model, and heterogeneity was investigated by I2 index. The data were analyzed using the Stata software version 12.0. Results: The rate of non-reporting of NSIs in 19 relevant articles in Iran with the sample size of 9274 was 59% (95% CI: 49-69). The rate of under-reporting of NSIs in the healthcare providers (64%) was higher than in nurses (55%). Based on the meta-regression results, there was no significant relationship between the prevalence of under-reporting of NSIs and the year of publication (P=0.138), sample size (P=0.390) and age (P=0.918). Conclusion: The results of the study showed that more than half of health care providers did not report NSIs. Notifying health care providers about the risks of NSIs and properly dealing with the injured cases is necessary in order to increase the reporting of NSIs.

Background Since time of menopause is influenced by a variety of racial, environmental, and physiological factors, determining age at natural menopause and its main indicators seems to be necessary. The present study attempted to determine average age at menopause and its main predictors among Iranian women. Materials and Methods This descriptive-analytic study was carried out on 400 postmenopausal women aged 43 to 65 years attending the health centers in Hamadan, Hamadan Province, Iran, during 2013. Due to potential effects of oral contraceptive pills (OCP) on age of menopause, we considered two groups of women with and without OCP use using cluster sampling method. Data were collected through individual interviews at the health centers. Results The findings showed significant univariate relationships between age at menopause with some baseline variables including mother’s age at menopause (p < 0.001), mother and spouse with high educational level (p < 0.001), passive cigarette smoking (p < 0.001), weekly physical activity (p < 0.001), and high family income (p < 001). Adversely, smoking was associated with early menopause. Conclusion The postmenopausal women doing intense weekly physical activity, having mothers with late menopause, having higher monthly income, and experiencing later-age pregnancy are likely to reach menopause later than their contemporaries, while smokers have an early menopause.

Background: Despite an elevated obesity risk in people with spinal cord injury (SCI), investigation on the effects of age, obesity predictors, and injury related factors is yet to be unknown within the SCI population. Methods: Obesity predictors were measured in 162 patients. Results: 27.5% of the participants were overweight and 5.6% of them were obese. Mean BMI was different between patients with tetraplegia and paraplegia (p < 0.01). More than 20% of participants had central obesity, significantly patients with higher age and time since injury. Conclusions: Significant positive relationship was found between level of injury and BMI. Participants with higher age and time since injury had higher waist circumference.
