A novel calix[6] arene polymer stationary phase (C6A-PEG) is reported that combines the π-electron-rich cavity of calix[6] arene (C6A) with polyethylene glycol (PEG) units for gas chromatography (GC). Thermogravimetric analysis revealed a 5% weight loss of C6A-PEG at 318 °C, and its static-coated capillary column showed high efficiency of 2924 plates/m (k = 3.48) determined by 1-octanol at 120 °C. As a result, the moderate polar C6A-PEG column showed clearly advantageous performance for the Grob reagent and a mixture of 25 analytes with high selectivity for hydrogen-bonded acids. Also, it exhibited high resolving performance for various isomer mixtures, in particular high-resolution performance (R > 2.2) for the challenging toluidine and dimethylaniline systems with distinct advantages compared to the C6A and PEG columns (R < 1.5 for some pairs). In this work, a novel star‐shaped copolymer functionalized by benzimidazolium ionic liquid (Star‐PEG‐PCL2‐2Bim) was synthesized and applied as stationary phase in capillary gas chromatography (GC). After static coating, the Star‐PEG‐PCL2‐2Bim column exhibited a column efficiency of 2655 plates/m and moderate polarity. The Star‐PEG‐PCL2‐2Bim column showed preferential retention and high resolving capability for hydrogen‐bonded and aromatic analytes, showing advantages over the ordinary polysiloxane phase. Impressively, it attained high resolution for the isomer mixtures of halogenated benzene, nitrobenzene, phenol and benzaldehydes with good peak shapes. A triblock copolymer (PCL-PDMS-PCL) constructed from polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) chains was synthesized and used as the stationary phase for capillary gas chromatography (GC). PCL-PDMS-PCL was statically coated to the inner wall of the column, and exhibited moderate polarity and a column efficiency of 2920 plates per m measured using 1-octanol at 120 °C. Its chromatographic retention behavior and separation mechanism were evaluated by using a variety of different types of analytes and isomers. The PCL-PDMS-PCL column showed superior performance for the mixture of 17 linear analytes with different polarities and the mixtures of 22 analytes of diverse types over the composing counterpart PDMS. Moreover, it exhibits outstanding separation performance for some challenging isomers of aromatic amines and showed distinct advantages over PDMS, and commercial HP-35 and PEG-20M columns. The separation of aromatic isomers, in particular xylene isomers, represents a big issue in chemical and petroleum industries, owing to their similar molecular sizes and boiling points. In this work, the investigation ofpillar[6]arene derivative modified by long alkyl chains (P6A-C10) as a stationary phase for high-resolution gas chromatographic (GC) separations of xylene isomers is presented. Pillar[n]arenes are a new class of macrocyclic hosts that can accommodate specific guests due to their highly symmetrical and rigid pillar architectures with π -electron rich cavities. The P6A-C10 column showed high-resolution performance towards xylene isomers, with peculiar advantages if compared with the commercial HP-5, HP-35, DB-17, and PEG-20Mcolumns.A quantum chemistry calculation has been performed, showing a difference in non-covalent interactions with the P6A-C10 pillar framework, which leads to specific selectivity for xylene isomers.Furthermore, the P6A-C10 column exhibited good repeatability.
