The collective consciousness of a community is tremendously shaped by myths and folktales passed on from generation to generation. With the publication of Joseph Campbell's book The Hero with a Thousand Faces, the idea of the hero and his journey took a giant leap, allowing the commoner's life narratives to be equated with the mythical journey. This study analyzes how mythology is demythified and symbolically represented in two of India's famous narratives, a novel series Shiva Trilogy by Amish Tripathi and an “over-the-top” (OTT) film Bulbbul by Anvita Dutt. The objects of this research are Indian mythological narratives about Goddess Shakti and her various manifestations — Durga, Kali, Sati, and Parvati — whose respective nature and purpose differ vastly from one another. Through the qualitative research method, the paper shows that the reader/viewer has well-received the interweaving of myth with contemporary fiction. It has given way to a change in diegesis, from the predominantly male-hero-focused outline to a female-driven narrative. The myth-bound heroines thus represent the power to break the shackles of patriarchy and normative culture, allowing an area for women to radicalize themselves through bold actions. Dengan diterbitkannya The Hero with a Thousand Faces karya Joseph Campbell, gagasan tentang pahlawan dan perjalanannya memungkinkan narasi kehidupan orang biasa untuk disejajarkan dengan perjalanan mitos. Studi ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bagaimana mitologi didemistifikasi dan secara simbolis direpresentasikan dalam dua narasi terkenal India, yakni serial novel Shiva Trilogy karya Amish Tripathi dan film “over-the-top” (OTT) Bulbbul karya Anvita Dutt. Objek penelitian ini adalah narasi mitologi India tentang Dewi Shakti dan berbagai manifestasinya — Durga, Kali, Sati, dan Parvati — yang sifat dan tujuannya masing-masing sangat berbeda satu sama lain. Melalui metode penelitian kualitatif, ditemukan; 1) pembaca/pemirsa telah menerima dengan baik jalinan mitos dengan fiksi kontemporer; 2) memberi jalan pada perubahan diegesis, dari garis besar yang berfokus pada pahlawan pria menjadi narasi yang digerakkan oleh wanita; 3) para tokoh wanita yang terikat mitos, mematahkan belenggu patriarki dan budaya normatif, memungkinkan area bagi perempuan untuk meradikalisasi diri mereka sendiri melalui tindakan yang berani.

This article offers a myth-critical analysis of the novel Diario maldito de Nuño de Guzmán by Herminio Martínez, published in 1990. Firstly, arguments supporting the application of the term «myth» to the narrative of the Spanish Conquest of America, which emerged from early colonial historiography, will be presented. Subsequently, the analysis of the subversive character of Martinez' novel will be provided. In particular, the strategies of demythification on the story level and demythologisation on the discourse level will be examined in detail. The article is intended as a contribution to the myth-critical methodology and praxis.

Our aim in this paper is to study in The Suns of Independence, by Ahmadou Kourouma, the episode that constitutes the tragic end story of the novel: the death of Fama. Our reading of this event lies on crossing two interpretations: a doubled mythification of the demythification of this death. Starting from a detail, that is, the lack of a funerary ritual to Fama, who is the main character in this novel, we will question about this narrative choice. It is through the four steps that underly the ethnocritic approach that we analyze the way in which the funeral ritual was subverted in the text, and the incidences of this scriptural treatment on the demythification and the re-mythification of the death of Fama.

Nous verrons que les emprunts de Sergio Ramírez révèlent l’empreinte des mythes nationaux nicaraguayens, qu’ils contiennent en filigrane une image abîmée de la nation, comme si dans ses récits à forte inspiration historique, ce romancier autrefois vice-président du gouvernement sandiniste, poursuivait une forme d’action politique, de dénonciation des maux dont souffre son pays. Nous nous pencherons ensuite sur la problématique de l’hybridisme générique, plus particulièrement sur la relation, en l’occurrence bienveillante, entre roman et photos. Nous questionnerons l’aspect transgressif de ces hybridations en nous demandant dans quelle mesure elles subvertissent, ou à tout le moins inquiètent, le genre romanesque, ainsi que l’historiographie officielle et une certaine conception de la vérité. Entre convention et rénovation, ces emprunts, de quelque ordre qu’ils soient, sont souvent porteurs d’une ambivalence et créateurs de tension dans le texte. Pour mieux servir le roman ?

L’Argentine vécut en 2001 une crise terminale, une révolte populaire où l’on demandait : « qu’ils partent tous ». Ce fut la fin d’un processus de décomposition des vieux concepts d’autorité, initiée avec l’échec militaire des Malouines et la découverte que les crimes des militaires n’ont pas été faits « pour la patrie » mais pour des intérêts mesquins. A la fin des années 1990, tandis que se préparait le soulèvement de 2001, apparaît dans la littérature Santiago Vega, connu comme Washington Cucurto. Descendant de noirs, il crée une littérature dans laquelle les personnages sont des immigrants dominicains, paraguayens et péruviens. Sa prose ne respecte pas les règles minimales de l’écriture « correcte » : la trame n’a pas d’importance et elle s’estompe avec le développement du roman. Elle en arrive au point d’insulter le Général San Martín. Pour certains, il s’agit là d’un populisme vulgaire, pour d’autres c’est l’expression de ce que la vieille Argentine qui se croyait l’héritière et le prolongement de l’Europe, a été un échec total.

Dans Un ojo llamado cacería de Marcela Saldaño, l’écriture du corps active une série de paradoxes que régit l’aphorisme « el primer estado es agua ». La poétesse compose et décompose également les matériaux de la phrase pour donner un « corps » nouveau au langage poétique, et exploite les failles de la mise en vers du corps en entreprenant un travail de décomposition-recomposition des éléments du mythe et de la légende.

Notre travail se propose un passage en revue du fonctionnement du mythe dans la littérature du XXe siècle. Certes, le mythe est un héritage antique, mais que la littérature n’a jamais cessé de modifier, de transformer, de détourner. Pendant le XXe siècle, on peut constater dans le domaine littéraire l’existence d’une double tendance : celle de suivre la ligné classique et celle de la démythification, qui enrichit le mythe de nouveaux symbolismes et significations.
