Aim:To analyze undergraduate nursing students written report on peripheral intravenous cannulation procedure with catheter. Method: Quantitative, descriptive study, developed with 76 undergraduate nursing students at a public university, from February through March 2014. Data collection took place at simulated scenario and procedure reports were evaluated with a structured instrument. Descriptive analysis was performed. Results: About fragilities, 100% of the students did not wrote about catheter fixation in the report; The variables complications (87,3%), used device (85%) and reason for procedure (84,1%) were predominantly absent. Adequate date, time and identification were positive highlights. Conclusion: Technique registration discrepancies were identified, with essential information being absent or incomplete. This particular subject should be improved with an association between theory and practice, focusing on competence development at teaching environments.

The objective is to identify the evidences and implications of medication administration errors for patient safety. An integrative review was undertaken through a search in four databases in May 2015. A sample of 40 articles was obtained, submitted to descriptive statistics. Descriptive studies of evidence level 4 were predominant (n=28; 70%), published in Brazil (n=17; 42.5%). The following errors stood out: dose errors (n=27; 67.5%), wrong drug (n=25; 62.5%); wrong patient (n=21; 52.5%); wrong time (n=20;50%); wrong route (n=17;42.5%), besides documentation errors, omission of justifications when necessary and others. This type of event is responsible for causing irreparable damage to the patient or even death.

Integrative literature review aimed to present the main evidence of risk factors for neonatal sepsis in newborns admitted to a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The search was performed between the months of July and August 2015, in the databases Scientific Electronic Library Online, SciVerse Scopus and PubMed, using the following descriptors: risk factors, neonatal intensive care unit, newborn and the following keywords: neonatal sepsis and prematurity. The search included 31 publications whose outcomes showed that the predictive factors for neonatal sepsis are associated to gestational age, premature rupture of amniotic membranes and maternal infection. Birth conditions, low weight and prematurity are strong evidence of sepsis. The factors related to the environment of the neonatal intensive care unit are potential contributing factors associated to late-onset sepsis.

Objective: To reflect on the qualification process of the professionals of the School Health Program through the Complexity Theory. Method: Edgar Morin's theoretical framework was used to defend the need to overcome the reductionist, disjunctive and limiting view of thought through the integration of knowledge. The recursive, dialogic and hologramatic principles and the concepts of order and disorder supported this process. Results: It was understood that the products and effects are included in the same process and if they are retroactive. The interaction and dialogue between the different professionals through the union of different ideas are necessary and become inseparable for the complexity of the capacities, when not only the parts are in the whole, but the whole is also identified in the parts. Conclusion and Implications for the Practice: It is necessary to integrate health and education professionals in the training of the School Health Program when considering their needs in the work processes, when counting on the contribution of the knowledge of other disciplines and sectors, as well as when sharing attributions in the execution of the activities proposed by the School Health Program.

The purpose of this integrative review was to characterize Brazilian studies on the practice of evidence-based nursing practice. The literature search was carried out between June and September 2014 in the Latin American and Caribbean Health Science Literature Database, the Scientific Electronic Library Online, and the National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health. Twenty-one articles were selected, all published in Brazilian journals between 2003 and 2004. The results indicate a greater number of level 5 reviews in comparison to other types of studies. Of these, most were integrative and systematic reviews directed at healthcare and teaching practices, developed in the Southeast of Brazil, by nursing professors who have a doctoral degree as their highest qualification. In conclusion, nurses in the healthcare context must be trained to search for, develop and use research in practical contexts in order to overcome the dichotomy between research and healthcare provision.

AIM: To investigate the quality of life of patients with HIV and tuberculosis co-infection and grasping the changes imposed in order to live with both transmissible diseases simultaneously. METHODS: Qualitative-quantitative research, undertaken at a specialized outpatient clinic in Fortaleza, Brazil, between 2009 and 2010, involving 34 co-infected patients. For data collection, a quality of life scale called HAT-QoL was used, which consists of 42 items, as well as open questions to perceive the changes the disease causes. RESULTS: Most participants suffered from pulmonary tuberculosis, were male and their education level was low. Quality of life was impaired in those domains related to economic, sexual and secrecy issues. It was also evidenced that the co-infection imposes changes in daily life that underline and further harm quality of life. CONCLUSION: Experiencing co-infection, despite appropriate treatment, causes changes in the patients' lives, whose repercussions can be mitigated through health-promoting interventions.OBJETIVO: Investigar la calidad de vida de pacientes con coinfección VIH/ tuberculosis y aprender los cambios impuestos para vivir simultáneamente con estas enfermedades transmisibles. MÉTODOS: Investigación con abordaje cualicuantitativo, realizado en consultorio externo especializado en Fortaleza, Brasil, entre 2009 y 2010, con 34 coinfectados. Para la recolección de datos fue utilizada una escala de calidad de vida, denominada HAT-QoL que posee 42 items y preguntas abiertas para posibilitar la percepción de los cambios frente a las enfermedades. RESULTADOS: La mayoría de los participantes tenía tuberculosis pulmonar, eran hombres, con poca escolaridad. La calidad de vida se mostró perjudicada en los dominios relacionados a las preguntas económicas, sexuales y de sigilo. Aun, fue evidenciado, que la coinfección impone cambios en el cotidiano que corroboran y amplían el compromiso d ela calidad de vida. CONCLUSIÓN: Vivenciar la coinfección, inclusive con terapéutica adecuada, produce alteraciones en la vida de los infectados, cuyas repercusiones pueden ser amenizadas con intervenciones que promueban la salud.OBJETIVO: Investigar a qualidade de vida de pacientes com coinfecção HIV/ tuberculose e apreender as mudanças impostas para viver simultaneamente com estas doenças transmissíveis. MÉTODOS: Pesquisa com abordagem qualiquantitativa, realizada em ambulatório especializado em Fortaleza, Brasil, entre 2009 e 2010, com 34 coinfectados. Para coleta de dados foi utilizada uma escala de qualidade de vida, denominada HAT-QoL que possui 42 itens e questões abertas para possibilitar perceber as mudanças em face das doenças. RESULTADOS: A maioria dos participantes tinha tuberculose na forma pulmonar, eram homens, com pouca escolaridade. A qualidade de vida mostrou-se prejudicada nos domínios relacionados às questões econômicas, sexuais e de sigilo. Ainda, foi evidenciado, que a coinfecção impõe mudanças no cotidiano que corroboram e ampliam o comprometimento da qualidade de vida. CONCLUSÃO: Vivenciar a coinfecção, mesmo com terapêutica adequada, produz alterações na vida dos infectados, cujas repercussões podem ser amenizadas com intervenções que promovam a saúde.

Objective: to verify the opinion of judges about a nursing consultation tool for people with co-infection by the human immunodeficiency virus and tuberculosis. Methods: methodological study, involving the construction of a tool based on Orem’s self-care theory and its submission for evaluation by judges experts in the area, which gave opinions about organization, clarity and relevance. Results: the instrument gained a positive evaluation for all assessment criteria, with agreement greater than 75.0% and Content Validity Index greater than 0.80 in most items. Following judges opinion, three items were excluded and two modified. Conclusion: the adequacy of the nursing consultation tool for people with HIV/ tuberculosis co-infection was confirmed regarding organization into subdivisions and items. Minimal disagreement among judges in the analysis of the issues was noted. Although most items were evaluated positively, further validation studies will be needed. Objetivo: verificar a opinião de juízes acerca de instrumento para consulta de enfermagem a pessoas com coinfecção pelo vírus da imunodeficiência humana e tuberculose. Métodos: estudo metodológico, envolvendo a construção de instrumento baseado na teoria do autocuidado de Orem, e a submissão deste à avaliação de juízes experts na área, os quais emitiram pareceres acerca da organização, clareza e relevância. Resultados: o instrumento obteve avaliação positiva quanto a todos os critérios de avaliação, com concordância maior que 75,0% e Índice de Validade de Conteúdo superior a 0,80 na maioria dos itens. Conforme parecer dos juízes, três itens foram excluídos e dois modificados. Conclusão: verificou-se a adequação do instrumento consulta de enfermagem para pessoas com coinfecção HIV/tuberculose, quanto à organização em subdivisões e itens. Segundo percebeu-se, houve reduzida discordância entre os juízes na análise das questões. Apesar maioria dos itens ter sido avaliada positivamente, serão necessários outros estudos de validação. Métodos: estudio metodológico, involucrando la construcción de instrumento basado en la teoría del autocuidado de Orem, y sumisión de esto a evaluación de expertos jueces en el área, que evaluaron organización, claridad y relevancia. Resultados: el instrumento obtuvo evaluación positiva para los criterios de evaluación, con concordancia mayor que 75,0% e Índice de Validez el Contenido mayor que 0,80 en la mayoría de los ítems. Según pareceres, tres artículos fueron excluidos y dos modificados. Conclusión: hubo adecuación de la herramienta de consulta de enfermería para personas con coinfección VIH/tuberculosis cuanto a la organización en subdivisiones e ítems. Se percibió reducido desacuerdo entre jueces en el análisis de las cuestiones. La mayoría de los ítems fueron evaluados positivamente, pero otros estudios de validación son necesarios.

With the advances of nursing scientific production in recent decades, in tandem with the growth of nursing postgraduate programs in Brazil, the discussion about ethics in research with human beings is perennial and relevant to nursing research.

Com o avanço da produção científica da enfermagem nas últimas décadas, em concomitância com o crescimento dos programas de pós-graduação em enfermagem no Brasil, a discussão sobre ética em pesquisa com seres humanos se faz perene e pertinente à pesquisa em enfermagem.

O tétano é uma doença infecciosa, não contagiosa, causada pelo bacilo Clostridium tetani que penetra no organismo através de ferimento. A disfunção psicomotora facilita acidentes entre os idoso e a cobertura vacinal é baixa nesta população contribuindo para letalidade alta. Este estudo tem como objetivo refletir sobre a situação do homem idoso, com relação ao tétano, dentro da perspectiva da Saúde Coletiva. Trata-se de Estudo de Caso realizado com dois pacientes idosos, do sexo masculino, portadores de tétano acidental, internados num hospital do município de Fortaleza. A coleta de dados se deu entre março e abril de 1998. A análise mostra a ausência de cobertura vacinal e da implantação da profilaxia de emergência. Os dois pacientes evoluíram para óbito confirmando alta mortalidade por tétano entre este grupo etário. A reflexão crítica aponta para urgência de abordagem de saúde coletiva. Tetanus is an infectious non-contagious disease caused by the bacillus Clostridium tetani, which penetrates in the organism through wounds. Psychomotor dysfunction facilitates accidents among elderly people and vaccinal coverage is low in this population, thus contributing to high lethality. This study aimed at reflecting on the situation faced by elderly people in relation to tetanus in the perspective of Collective Health. It is a Case Study conducted with two elderly males who had accidental tetanus and were hospitalized in a hospital in the municipality of Fortaleza. Data collection took place from March to April, 1998. The analysis showed the absence of vaccinal coverage as well as of the implementation of emergency prophylaxis. The two patients' conditions developed to death, which confirmed the high mortality due to tetanus in this age group. The critical reflection pointed out the urgency of a collective health approach. El tétano es una enfermedad infecciosa, no contagiosa, causada por el bacilo Clostridium Tetani que penetra en el organismo a través de una herida. El disturbio psicomotor facilita accidentes entre las personas mayores y la protección por vacunas en esta población es baja, lo que contribuye para un alto índice de mortalidad. Este estudio tiene como objetivo la reflexión sobre la situación del adulto mayor, con relación al tétano, dentro de la perspectiva de la Salud Colectiva. Se trata de un estudio de caso con dos pacientes ancianos, del sexo masculino, portadores del tétano accidental, internados en un hospital del municipio de Fortaleza. La recolección de datos de hizo entre marzo y abril de 1998. El análisis muestra la ausencia de cobertura de la vacuna y de una implementación de profilaxis de emergencia. Los dos pacientes fallecieron, lo que confirma la alta mortalidad por el tétano en este grupo de edad. La reflexión crítica, denota la urgencia de un abordaje desde la salud colectiva.

The aim of this study was to investigate the main techniques and methods of education as far as health is concerned and also their relationship with the education theoretical basis used by health professionals in the elaboration and implementation of educational actions in health, within the scope of the primary attention It was Developed a systematic review in five Brazilian newspapers, within the period of 1990 to 2004. The descriptors used were: Education; Education in Health; Primary Attention in Health and Health Promotion. The 58 articles selected were categorized according to similarities of subjects and approaches. As a result of the analysis we were led to conclude that education in health can be considered one of the main actions of health promotion, considering that it is of great importance not only in the prevention and rehabilitation of illnesses, besides raising conscious citizenship, social and personal responsibility related to health, but also in the formation of multipliers and care takers.

Desenvolveu revisão sistemática em cinco periódicos brasileiros, no período de 1990 a 2004. Utilizou-se como descritores: Educação; Educação em Saúde; Atenção Primária em Saúde e Promoção da Saúde. Os 58 artigos selecionados foram categorizados conforme a semelhança de temas e abordagens. A análise permitiu concluir que a educação em saúde pode ser considerada uma das principais ações de promoção da saúde, já que a mesma revela-se de suma importância tanto na prevenção e reabilitação de doenças, além de despertar a cidadania, responsabilidade pessoal e social relacionada à saúde, bem como a formação de multiplicadores e cuidadores. En este estudio se investigaron las principales técnicas y métodos de educación en salud y su relación con las bases teóricas de la educación en salud usadas por profesionales de la salud en la elaboración y la implementación de acciones educativas en salud, en el ámbito de la atención primaria. El estudio desarrolló una revisión sistemática en cinco periódicos brasileños, de 1990 a 2004. Se utilizaron los siguientes descriptores: Educación; Educación en Salud; Atención Primaria en Salud y Promoción de la Salud. Los 58 artículos escogidos fueron clasificados según la semejanza de temas y formas de abordar. El análisis permitió concluir que la educación en la salud se puede considerar una de las principales acciones de la promoción de la salud, puesto que ésta se revela de suma importancia tanto en la prevención y la rehabilitación de enfermedades – más allá de reavivar la ciudadanía, responsabilidad social y personal relacionada a la salud – así como en la formación de multiplicadores y cuidadores.
