This study aims at identifying the pairwise relationship between specific sets of Lean Production (LP) practices and Learning Organisation (LO) dimensions. More specifically, the association between 10 LP operational constructs and seven LO dimensions, based upon previous literature, is empirically examined. A survey-based study was carried out with 135 companies undergoing a LP implementation. The study sample was categorised according to two control variables: type of organisation and company's LP implementation experience. Collected data was analysed through multivariate techniques. Results indicate that LP implementation and LO development are highly correlated. Additionally, findings also show that the extent of relationships varies according to the context, allowing the identification of synergistic associations and conflicting ones. The identification of these relationships provides means to better comprehend how the implementation of specific LP practices corroborates to enhancing LO capabilities within the organisation and vice-versa. Lean manufacturing and agile manufacturing have been two prominent manufacturing paradigms over the past decades, with the respective aims of reducing waste to achieve low-cost and being flexible in production processes. Industry 4.0 is transforming traditional manufacturing systems into smart ones. The current competitive market requires manufacturing companies to improve both cost-efficiency and flexibility with the application of Industry 4.0 technologies. This study is the first systematic literature review linking Industry 4.0 with both lean and agile manufacturing. A conceptual framework is proposed concerning their relationships. It shows Industry 4.0 supports both manufacturing systems, and they, in turn, facilitate the implementation of Industry 4.0. The integration of Industry 4.0 with lean manufacturing mainly enhances cost-competitiveness in the performance dimension; with agile manufacturing, it mainly enhances flexibility. The finding implies Industry 4.0 is the enabling technology that allows two manufacturing systems to co-exist while overcoming the trade-off among various competitive objectives. The adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies has been deemed as a strategy to increase product quality and make manufacturing processes more efficient. However, the way that these technologies are integrated into existing production systems and which processes they can support is still under investigation. Thus, this paper aims to examine the relationship between lean production (LP) practices and the implementation of Industry 4.0 in Brazilian manufacturing companies. To achieve that we use data from a survey carried out with 110 companies of different sizes and sectors, at different stages of LP implementation. Data collected were analysed by means of multivariate analysis. Our findings indicate that LP practices are positively associated with Industry 4.0 technologies and their concurrent implementation leads to larger performance improvements. Methods and principles of Lean Production have become the major concepts to create highly efficient processes since the early 1990s. Due to its high effectiveness by reducing complexity and focusing on value-adding tasks, the Lean concept is still successful. Nevertheless, its changeability to produce highly customised products is limited. Industry 4.0 describes the vision of a smart production which can meet these future market requirements. Enablers are innovative information and communication technologies and the integration of all production entities into a common digital network. Lean Automation is the application of Industry 4.0 technologies to Lean Production methods in order to combine benefits from both domains. First proprietary Lean Automation solutions exist, but to enhance changeability in production, a common, unified communication interface is required. The need to improve processes, increase productivity in line with the reduction of waste, has made several corporations investigate methods to make this possible. The objective of this work was to present a literature review on the profile of lean manufacturing philosophies applied in Brazilian companies/industries based on four parameters: methodology, focus, principles, and practices. Thus, bibliographic research was carried out, through a literature review, evaluating 21 articles from the google scholar database. To identify the publications relevant to the work, short abstracts, keywords, and titles were used, with restriction to the publication period from 2017 to 2021, of the following words, combined or individual: ME implementation, ME practices, lean manufacturing, Toyota system and lean manufacturing. This research summarized in just one article, the trivial topics evaluated on the application of ME, with the intention that professionals in the field and researchers select the methodology that fits the situation of a particular company or the one that presents the best overview of this application. It is concluded that the most used methodology was the case study, the focus is mostly on administrative environments and the most used principles and practices are related to sight management. This study examines the differences in implementation level of both Industry 4.0 (I4.0) and Lean Production (LP), whose integration is denoted here as Lean Automation (LA), between manufacturers located in emerging and developed economies. A survey-based research was carried out with a total of 249 Brazilian (emerging economy) and Italian (developed economy) companies that are implementing LP and have initiated the adoption of I4.0 technologies. Collected data was analysed through multivariate data techniques. Results indicate that the socio-economic context where companies are located does influence the extension of LA implementation. However, they also suggest that, if properly managed, a high level of LA implementation is feasible regardless the socio-economic barriers and challenges that manufacturers may face. Further, companies' characteristics that favour higher LA levels might also vary between emerging and developed economies, emphasising the importance of a clear understanding of the socio-economic specificities of the contexts. This study sheds light on how pervasive LA implementation can be in manufacturers from both socio-economic contexts. Moreover, these outcomes demystify assumptions related to management approaches that may only prevail if certain socio-economic conditions are present. The main purpose of this study is to examine whether the application of current information technology (IT) and different principles of lean manufacturing (LM) are interdependent and complimentary or they are mutually exclusive. This study draws on the so-called IT-enabled organisational capabilities perspective to study the relationships between IT, LM and business performance improvement. Using a questionnaire-based survey, the data come from 231 leading Iranian and Malaysian auto-part manufacturers. The findings suggest that LM and IT are mutually interdependent and value of IT investments can be effectively transformed into business performance improvement for auto-part manufacturers through the higher levels of lean manufacturing system (LMS) implementation. Advanced manufacturing technology (AMT) competency is a valuable intermediate capability which links IT investments into LMS implementation. It was found that IT investment is one of the minimum requirements of LMS implementation for surveyed business, and the value of IT investment is truly transformed to LMS implementation when IT investments offer competent administrative AMTs to effectively manage all production processes. Findings also recommend that managers should avoid isolating the performance metrics only on areas such as net financial measures, while assessing the business value of IT and LM. Abstract In recent years, the renewed interest in environmental issues has gradually required manufacturers to simultaneously pursue a more rational use of resources and a reduction in wastes production. New strategies, technologies and organisational innovations must be therefore conceived to "create more value with less impact" (WBCSD, 2010). An interesting and promising perspective for achieving internal efficiency, market effectiveness and environmental eco-efficiency is that of integrating the environmental variable in the Lean Production (LP) paradigm. Scholars and practitioners have been working for some years in this direction of eco-innovation. The present article aims at obtaining a quali/quantitative overview of Lean and Clean(er) production (L&C) research through a bibliometric and network analysis, by using a scientific literature database; in particular, it investigates how Clean(er) Production research and publications are progressively embedded in the field of LP, what are the main topics in this sub-field and common research themes. A comprehensive picture was made by analysing data concerning publications, authors, affiliations, and the countries of origin. Evolutionary profiles, major topics investigated, leading authors and collaborations have been reported. The results also reveal promising spaces for the development of L&C production research, in order to achieve economic and environmental benefits. the article discloses the relevance of the use of business games in various fields. The experience of developing business games at the BMSTU, preparations for using them in the educational process both for students and for employees of enterprises. Features on the organization of the working process for the team members for the preparation of competitive training events are given. The prospects of creating a modular business game are described.

The research is fundamental for the technical progress; its aim is to ensure the visibility of a new concept appeared worldwide – “lean thinking” which could be successfully implemented by Romanian companies too. The article makes a review of the specialized literature regarding this new concept and analyses the evolution of the publication of articles based on the following key words: lean accounting, lean manufacturing, lean philosophy, lean production and value stream. Also, it presents the stage of publishing specialized articles by Romanian authors or in Romanian magazines indexed in international databases.
