- Abstract
Views, plats and advertisements are placed in fairly typical fashion (although there are several large folding maps of Allentown) but what distinguishes this atlas is a double page map at the back of the atlas called "Map of The South Mountain and Boston Rail Road & Connections." This map is listed in Modelski; at the time the atlas was published, the railroad was under construction and about to enter and pass through Lehigh County. On page 14 of the atlas is a long description of The South Mountain Railroad, "The most important enterprise now in progress, affecting Lehigh County..." This map appeared in two other county atlases, one by F.W. Beers of Lebanon County, 1875, and the other by A.M. Davis of Westmoreland County, 1876. So the railroad used the county atlases to promote its business. Maps in full color., P2481; Modelski North America 61(South Mountain & Boston Railroad Map).
