In this study, a new dinuclear cobalt(II)–radical complex [Co2(3,5-DBSQ)4(bpym)]·(3,5-DBCatH2)4 (1) (3,5-DBSQ = 3,5-di-tert-butylsemiquinone, 3,5-DBCatH2 = 3,5-di-tert-butylcatecholato, bpym = 2,2′-bipyrimidine) was synthesized and characterized using single-crystal X-ray crystallography. Simulated results indicated relatively strong antiferromagnetic exchange coupling between cobalt(II) centers and semiquinone radical ligands. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A photo-switchable single molecule-magnet (SMM) with two Dy ions bridged by a bis-bipyridine-dithienylethene ligand was synthesised. Isomerisation effects on the magnetic properties were investigated. Particular attention was paid to the slow relaxation of the magnetisation in order to determine precisely the role played by the ligand. Photo-isomerization of the ligand induced a geometric rearrangement of the complex and an electronic reconfiguration. The changes were studied by solid and solution state magnetic measurements. Spin doctor: A mononuclear ferric complex [Fe(H‐5‐Br‐thsa)(5‐Br‐thsa)]⋅H2O (1) (H2‐5‐Br‐thsa=5‐bromo‐2‐hydroxybenzylidene)hydrazinecarbothioamide) was synthesized and its magnetic properties and structure were investigated by DFT calculations. This complex shows unprecedented reversible, six/five‐step spin‐crossover behavior accompanied by symmetry breaking. Abstract: Three novel lanthanide complexes, namely, [Ce(Himdc)(H2imdc)(H2O)3]·H2O (1), {[Dy(Himdc)(Ox)0.5(H2O)2]·H2O} n (2), and {[Nd(Himdc)(Ox)0.5(H2O)2]·H2O} n (3) (H3imdc=imidazole-4,5-dicarboxylic acid, Ox=oxalate), have been successfully prepared by the assembly of lanthanide ions and H3imdc ligand under different synthetic conditions. All of the complexes have been characterized by means of elemental analysis, IR, TG analysis, luminescence spectroscopy as well as single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The 3D supramolecular structure of 1 is constructed from 1D zig-zag chains through the hydrogen bonding interactions. Complex 2 possesses the chair-shaped secondary building units (SBUs) with Dy6(Himdc)4(Ox)2 and meso-helical chains (P+M), resulting in a novel 2D structure based on the linkages of oxalate ligand. Complex 3 also presents 2D layer structure with uninodal 6-connected net topology, but crystallizes in the different space group and owns higher coordination number of the central metal atom than complex 2. • Cyano-bridged transition-metal-based single-molecule magnets (SMMs) and single-chain magnets (SCMs) are overviewed. • The structures of related SMMs and SCMs are summarized. • The performances and related magnetic parameters of related SMMs and SCMs are presented. Novel functional molecular-based magnetic materials, especially some members of the Prussian blue family, have gained significant attention over the past few decades as they can be used beneficially in a variety of scientific fields. Herein, we survey the latest developments in cyano-bridged transition-metal-based single-molecule magnets (SMMs) and single-chain magnets (SCMs) research. The cyanide ligand, which has a strong affinity for transition metals, is a popular bridging ligand to construct a variety of molecular-magnetic materials, depending on the type of co-ligand. This review mainly focuses on research into structural topologies and the corresponding SMMs or SCMs. The first section provides a brief introduction into SMM and SCM behavior and important principles and strategies for constructing diverse magnetic materials. The remaining sections provide overviews of significant achievements reported in recent years. In the final section we conclude by presenting perspectives on cyanometallate-based SMMs and SCMs and by providing some new insight into this promising area. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A chiral mononuclear Dy III complex, formulated [Dy(PNO) 6 (H 2 O) 2 ]Cl 3 ( 1 ) (PNO = pyridine- N -oxide), has been prepared by using an achiral ligand through spontaneous resolution. Structure analyses show that complex 1 consists of a Dy III mononuclear unit and such units interact with each other by hydrogen bonds to form helical chains along a axis. The crystals of 1 are optically active and opposite Cotton effects can be observed in the circular dichroism (CD) spectra. Magnetic studies reveal that complex 1 exhibits field-induced single molecule magnet behavior with an energy barrier of 49 K. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Two mononuclear Dy III complexes [Dy(H 2 TEG)(NO 3 ) 3 ]·[18-crown-6] (H 2 TEG = triethylene glycol) (1) and [Dy(H 2 TEG)Cl 3 ]·[18-crown-6] (2) have been prepared using H 2 TEG as ligands. Magnetic studies revealed that both complexes show field-induced double magnetic relaxation behavior with energy barriers of 28 K and 54 K. Distinct magnetic dynamic properties observed in 1 and 2 are mostly attributed to the dissimilar coordination environments around Dy III centers in these two complexes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
