We report the microwave assisted synthesis of a bidimensional (2D) MOF of formula [Dy(MeCOO)(PhCOO)2]n (1) and its magnetically diluted analogue [La0.9Dy0.1(MeCOO)(PhCOO)2] (1 d). 1 is a 2D material with single‐ion‐magnet (SIM) behaviour and 1 d is a multifunctional, magnetic and luminescent 2D material. 1 can be exfoliated into stable nanosheets by sonication. Three new lanthanide complexes incorporating salicylate (HSAorSA) and 1,10-phenanthroline (phen), Ln3(HSA)5(SA)2(phen)3[Ln = Ho (1) and Er (2)], and Sm2(HSA)2(SA)2(phen)3(3), have been synthesized. X-ray structural analysis reveals that1and2are isostructural with a trinuclear pattern, and3exhibits a binuclear structure. Comparison of the structural differences between1/2and3suggests that the identity of metal plays an important role in construction of such complexes. The magnetic properties of1are discussed. The synthesis of a terbium-based 2D metal–organic framework (MOF), of formula [Tb(MeCOO)(PhCOO)2] (1), a crystalline material formed by neutral nanosheets held together by Van der Waals interactions, is presented. The material can be easily exfoliated by sonication and deposited onto different substrates. Uniform distributions of Tb-2D MOF flakes onto silicon were obtained by spin-coating. We report the luminescent and magnetic properties of the deposited flakes compared with those of the bulk. Complex 1 is luminescent in the visible and has a sizeable quantum yield of QY = 61% upon excitation at 280 nm. Photoluminescence measurements performed using a micro-Raman set up allowed us to characterize the luminescent spectra of individual flakes on silicon. Magnetization measurements of flakes-on-silicon with the applied magnetic field in-plane and out-of-plane display anisotropy. Ac susceptibility measurements show that 1 in bulk exhibits field-induced slow relaxation of the magnetization through two relaxation paths and the slowest one, with a relaxation time of τlf ≈ 0.5 s, is assigned to a direct process mechanism. The reported exfoliation of lanthanide 2D-MOFs onto substrates is an attractive approach for the development of multifunctional materials and devices for different applications. Four new lanthanide–carboxylate coordination polymers of the formula [Ln 3 L 4 (phen) 4 (H 2 O) 4 ](ClO 4 )·2H 2 O, (Ln = Dy ( 1 ), Tb ( 2 ), Ho ( 3 ) and Er ( 4 ), L = 2,3-naphthalenedicarboxylate and phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) were solvothermally synthesized. Their structures as well as magnetic and photoluminescent properties were completely investigated. Complexes 1 – 4 are isostructural and exhibit 1D ribbon-like chains with envelope-like sixteen-membered rings. The Dy III and Tb III complexes show the corresponding characteristic luminescence in the visible region and the Er III complex shows luminescence in the near-infrared region upon excitation with UV rays. Studies on the magnetic properties are reported. The Dy(III) analog complex 1 exhibits slow magnetic relaxation and could be a new example of a Dy(III) SMM (single molecule magnet). Hybrid organic-inorganic metal halide materials with zero-dimensional (0D) structures have emerged as a captivating field of research due to their distinctive electronic properties and remarkable broadband emission characteristics. In this study, we successfully synthesized a novel hybrid cadmium iodide compound, (BZA) 2 CdI 4.H 2 O (BZA+: benzylammonium), in the form of single crystals employing the solvent-evaporation method. The room temperature single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that (BZA) 2 CdI 4.H 2 O possesses a typical 0D crystal structure, where (CdI 4)2− anions are spatially isolated and surrounded by (BZA)+ cations and H 2 O molecules. The crystal packing is intricately governed by various non-covalent intermolecular interactions, including π–π stacking interactions, N H...I, N H...O, and O H...I hydrogen bonds, quantified through Hirshfeld surface analysis. Thermal analysis further demonstrated that the removal of water molecules in the crystal lattice yields a dehydrated phase of (BZA) 2 (CdI 4). Upon 330 nm irradiation, the title compound displayed a broad bluish-white light emission, featuring a primary band at 430 nm and a secondary band at 500 nm. Based on photoluminescence spectra measurements and density functional theory (DFT) calculations, the dual-band emission is assigned to the emission of (BZA)+ organic cations and to excitons confined in the [CdI 4 ]2– isolated inorganic tetrahedron, respectively. Interestingly, the presence of isolated molecular units in the 0-D structure results in strongly localized charges and bluish-white light emission with Commission International de l'Eclairage (CIE) colour coordinates (0.23, 0.28). These results confirm the promise of 0D metal-halide hybrids with dual-band emission as luminescent materials for solid-state lighting. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
