Independent component analysis (ICA) has been used for data mining in many branches of science. In beam physics, ICA can be applied to analyze turn-by-turn beam position monitor data of beam motion. The narrow-band filtering of ICA provides us methods to identify and extract information on the linear betatron and synchrotron motion, effects of wake fields, etc. We show that the ICA is also a powerful tool to measure nonlinear magnetic field in accelerators. Numerical simulations are used to demonstrate the ability to obtain sextupole strengths at high precision. The methods can be extended to other higher order multipoles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Betatron radiation in strongly magnetized plasma is investigated by two dimensional (2D) particlein- cell (PIC) simulations. The results show that the betatron radiation in magnetized plasmas is strongly enhanced and is more collimated compared to that in unmagnetized plasma. Single particle model analysis shows that the frequency and the amplitude of the electrons's betatron oscillation are strongly influenced by the axial external magnetic field and the axial self-generated magnetic field. And the 2D PIC simulation shows that the axial magnetic field is actually induced by the external magnetic field and tends to increase the betatron frequency. By disturbing the perturbation of the plasma density in the laser-produced channel, the hosing instability is also suppressed, which results in a better angular distribution and a better symmetry of the betatron radiation. The trajectories of electrons originating from different initial locations in the unperturbed plasma during the interaction of an ultraintense laser with underdense plasma in the bubble regime are followed by particle-in-cell simulation. It is found that plasma electrons initially aligned with the rim of the laser focal spot contribute most to the bow wave in front of the bubble and those aligned with the lateral bubble sheath edge contribute most to the self-injection at the back of the bubble. A scaling law between the transverse electric and magnetic fields for the case where there are many electrons in the bubble is given and discussed in terms of betatron oscillations of the injected electrons. In this paper we consider the calculation of the linearly polarised undulator brightness with the inclusion of the sextupolar magnetic field contributions and an axial magnetic field. A betatron on the leakage flux from two windings connected oppositely and laid around a closed magnetic circuit is considered. The governing magnetic field in the interpole gap is created by a leakage magnetic flux between the windings, while the accelerating magnetic flux is generated by the difference of the ampere-turns of the windings in a closed magnetic circuit. Results are presented that were obtained by examining the proposed scheme and by comparing it with the classical betatron scheme. It is shown that the use of a closed magnetic circuit, with the demagnetization of steel, makes it possible to implement, in the most economical way, the potential of the induction method of acceleration. © 2004 MAIK “Nauka / Interperiodica”.
