A novel approach was introduced to prepare very low density, highly porous, economic, reusable, hydrophobic, and magnetic cellulose aerogels from hardwood dissolving pulp via a simple freeze-drying procedure. The aerogels showed outstanding adsorption efficiency for several oils and organic solvents and demonstrated excellent selectivity for absorbing oil from an oil/water mixture. Moreover, they were easily collected by an external magnet, indicating excellent recyclability and reusable for at least 10 cycles while still retaining supreme adsorption capacity (up to 181 g/g for silicone oil). This study proposes an economic and novel method for the large-scale preparation of hydrophobic and magnetic cellulose aerogels, making them a promising candidate for the efficient and sustainable cleaning of oils and chemical spills., (Copyright © 2021 Elsevier Ltd. This study introduces a new combined method of wood impregnation and chemical pulping processes leading to the production of superparamagnetic cellulose fibers with a magnetic nanoparticle-free outer surface. First, magnetic wood chips (MWCs) were prepared by in situ synthesizing of magnetite (Fe 3 O 4 ) nanoparticles during the wood impregnation process. The MWCs were then converted into magnetic fibers by kraft pulping. The results showed that the resulting magnetic fibers had an outer surface comparable to that of non-magnetic fibers while showing superparamagnetic behavior. The XRD results confirmed that the in situ synthesized magnetic nanoparticles were magnetite. Papers made from the new type of magnetic cellulose fibers had much more desirable tensile properties, appearance, and printability than papers made from conventional magnetic cellulose fibers, comparable to those made from non-magnetic fibers., (Copyright © 2020. Cancer has become one of the primary causes of death worldwide. Current cancer-therapy schemes are progressing relatively slowly in terms of reducing mortality, prolonging survival, time and enhancing cure rate, owing to the enormous obstacles of cancer pathophysiology. Therefore, specific diagnosis and therapy for malignant tumors are becoming more and more crucial and urgent, especially for early cancer diagnosis and cancer-targeted therapy. Derived theranostics that combine several functions into one "package" could further overcome undesirable differences in biodistribution and selectivity between distinct imaging and therapeutic agents. In this article, we discuss a chief clinical diagnosis tool - MRI - focusing on recent progress in magnetic agents or systems in multifunctional polymer nanoassemblies for combing cancer theranostics. A water-compatible magnetic triclosan (TCS) imprinted material (TCS-CTS-Fe 0 -MIPs) was synthesized for selective enrichment and detection of TCS in real complex water samples. The material was synthesized by using chitosan (CTS) as functional monomer, which has rich surface O- and N-containing functional groups. The TCS imprinted CTS was coated on Fe 0 surface and then cross-linked with glutaraldehyde. Scanning electron microscopy suggested that the imprinted material was covered with a layer of imprinted film, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy confirmed that the imprinted material had more functional groups (amino and hydroxyl groups) than that of non-imprinted material. The TCS imprinted and non-imprinted materials used in each adsorption experiments were 0.1 mg mL -1 . The maximum adsorption capacity of the TCS imprinted material and non-TCS imprinted material were 20.86 and 15.11 mg g -1 , respectively. The adsorption results showed that selectivity coefficient was 10.151, 1.353, and 8.271 in the presence of p-chlorophenol, 2,4,6-trichlorophenol, and bisphenol-A, respectively. The recoveries of river water and lake water samples were 92.8, 91.3, 92.4, and 81.4, 82.3, 82.1%, respectively, when the samples were spiked with 4, 6, and 8 μg L -1 of TCS with the imprinted material. The adsorption capacity of the TCS imprinted material and non-TCS imprinted material lost 5.2 and 6.2% after six times of recycling. The high selectivity and excellent adsorption capacity of the imprinted material can be attributed to the presence of sterically complementary imprinted sites and high surface, which would also made it more accessible to TCS than that of non-imprinted material. The present study would provide an environmental friendly and convenient method for the removal and the monitoring of TCS in environmental water samples.

Combining template immobilization with surface imprinting technology is an effective strategy to overcome the difficulties associated with macromolecular template removal and to achieve high specific recognition ability. In this work, ionic liquid functionalized Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles were prepared via a simple two-step modification process and were used as substrate to immobilize bovine serum albumin (BSA). The zeta potential study revealed immobilization of BSA on the nanoparticles through multiple interactions, and the immobilization capacity was about nine times higher compared with that of bare Fe 3 O 4 . Subsequently, dopamine was utilized as functional monomer to prepare BSA surface imprinted nanoparticles. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermo-gravimetric analysis and transmission electron microscopy verified the successful preparation of BSA imprinted nanoparticles with core-shell structure. The influence of imprinted layer thickness on recognition ability of imprinted nanoparticles was investigated, and the results suggested that 20nm was an optimum thickness to achieve the best recognition ability. The adsorption isotherm studies showed that the imprinted nanoparticles had a significantly higher adsorption capacity and stronger binding affinity than the non-imprinted ones. Furthermore, the selective as well as the competitive adsorption studies revealed higher selectivity and recognition ability of the imprinted nanoparticles for BSA. Therefore, the proposed strategy is an effective way to obtain protein imprinted polymers with high adsorption capacity and good recognition ability, thus would be beneficial for the further development and application of protein imprinting technology., (Copyright © 2017 Elsevier B.V.
