(111) oriented [Co(1 nm)/Au(2.5 nm)][SUB30] multilayers exhibit a strong thermal variation of the magnetoresistive (MR) signal between 5 and 280 K, that consists of field-direction dependent giant (GMR) and anisotropic magnetoresistance (AMR) contributions. Both, isothermal magnetization and the MR loops reveal the appearance of a canted magnetic state that accompanies the enhancement of the AMR contribution at lower temperatures. In addition, the experimental results reveal that the GMR and AMR contributions not only depend on the relative direction between the magnetic field and the current but also depend strongly on the relative direction of the field and the tilting angle of the mean easy-magnetization axis. The large differences observed in the magnetization and the MR curves of the as-made and the annealed films reveal the important role played by the field dependence of the magnetic domain correlations in the spin conductance of face-centered-cubic-Co/Au multilayers. Abstract: The artificial control of grain-boundary resistance and its contribution to magnetic and magneto-transport properties in [Co(3nm)/Bi(2.5nm)/Co(3nm)]Ir20Mn80(12nm) thin films that exhibit exchange bias is studied. Transverse magnetoresistance (MR) loops exhibit a negative MR in thin films grown by magnetron sputtering on Si/SiN x (100nm) substrates. This negative MR effect is of the giant-MR (GMR) type, although its magnitude is less than 1%. A considerable exchange bias (EB) effect is observed only at lower temperatures, where both, GMR and isothermal magnetization loops exhibit a shift of −600Oe at 5K. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: The magnetotransport properties of [Co(1nm)/Bi(2.5nm)]10 multilayers are examined in line structures prepared by magnetron sputtering and a two-step microfabrication process. At 10K the transverse magnetoresistance (MR) in [Co(1nm)/Bi(2.5nm)]10 line structures exhibits a ΔR/R =80% effect, and a change of the anomalous Hall effect (AHE) voltage equal to 21% in thin films. At 300K this MR effect becomes 27% whereas the AHE contribution changes the polarity of the spontaneous Hall resistance loop from negative at 10K to positive in the MR loop. Such large MR effect may find applications in magnetoelectronic devices. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: The dependence of magnetoresistance (MR) on the magnetization reversal processes was studied in Co and NiFe line structures with pads. Conventional patterning and deposition processes are applied for the fabrication of a device that consists of five-line structures with a line-width of 2μm. It is demonstrated that the large asymmetry of AMR loops in Co-lines, which are observed after a field-cooling process, might pave the way for applications in magnetoelectronic devices where the magnetic field direction parallel or antiparallel to dc-current direction inside the magnetic line structures really matters.
