The difficulty of dislodging well established disciplinary myths is demonstrated through an examination of discussions of the "Schmidt study" in contemporary introductory management textbooks. Despite the debunking of this myth over to years ago by Wrege and Perroni, it continues to be presented as fact, virtually uncriticized. Recommendations to alter this treatment of the "Schmidt study" are made, along with suggestions for augmenting presentations of another legendary piece of research: Adam Smith's discussion of the division of labor.
