- Abstract
Desmoplastic fibroma is a benign tumor of fibroblastic origin, common in long bones, but rare in the region of the maxilla and mandible, composed of dense fibroblastic mesh and abundant collagen. It comprises 0.06% of all bone tumors and 0.3% of benign bone tumors. It is clinically characterized by an increase in volume of firm consistency with or without symptomatology; radiographically, it shows bone displacement with irregular borders and histologically with presence of cellular variability of fibroblasts, miofibroblasts with uniform nuclei, without pleomorphism and/or atypical features. The present case describes a desmoplastic fibroma in a 11 year old pediatric patient, its clinical, radiographic and computerized tomography images and histological features are exposed, as well the surgical treatment and a 1 year follow up period.
