Orientador: Simonides Consani Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Odontologia de Piracicaba Resumo: O presente estudo teve como objetivo investigar a aplicação de sistemas fotoiniciadores alternativos em compósitos odontológicos. Para melhor entendimento, o trabalho foi dividido em três Capítulos. O Capítulo 1 teve como objetivos específicos 1) avaliar a taxa de polimerização máxima (TPmax), grau de conversão (GC), dureza e grau de amarelo (GA) de compósitos contendo canforoquinona (CQ), fenil-propanodiona (PPD) ou a combinação (CQ/PPD) em três diferentes concentrações; 2) avaliar a densidade de potência absorvida (DPabs, em mW/cm3) pelos sistemas fotoiniciadores (parâmetro utilizado para estimar a correlação entre os espectros de absorção dos fotoiniciadores e o espectro emitido pela fonte de luz). As hipóteses testadas foram: a) PPD e/ ou CQ/PPD poderia reduzir GA e TPmax sem reduzir GC e dureza; b) TPmax, GC e dureza são dependentes da DPabs. TP foi avaliada por calorimetria diferencial de varredura (DSC), GC por espectroscopia transformada de Fourier (FTIR), dureza por endentação Knoop e GA por um colorímetro (eixo b). Concluiu-se que: 1) apenas CQ/PPD reduziu a TPmax sem reduzir GC e dureza; 2) uma redução do GA foi possível apenas quando PPD foi utilizada em baixa concentração e 3) TPmax, GC e dureza são dependentes da DPabs. O Capítulo 2 avaliou o efeito da proporção de amina na TPmax, GC, dureza Knoop, sorção de água (Wsr), solubilidade em água (Wsl) e alterações de cor (?E) em função do tempo para compósitos formulados com CQ, PPD e CQ/PPD. Foram testadas as proporções fotoiniciador:amina 2:1, 1:1, 1:1.5 e 1:2, em peso. TPmax foi avaliada por DSC, GC por DSC e FTIR, dureza por endentação Knoop, Wsr e Wsl adaptadas da ISO 4049; e ?E por um colorímetro. Quanto maior a proporção de amina empregada, maior foi GC, TPmax e dureza, e menor foi Wsl, independentemente do fotoiniciador usado. O uso do PPD resultou em piores propriedades do que CQ e CQ/PPD. Diversos fatores afetam ?E. A maior quantidade de amina usada foi responsável pelos maiores níveis de amarelo para as formulações de CQ e CQ/PPD. Concluindo, o uso do PPD sozinho não foi vantajoso, se comparado com CQ e CQ/PPD; a eficiência do fotoiniciador foi dependente da proporção de amina empregada, independentemente do tipo de fotoiniciador; a quantidade de amina influenciou o GA para compósitos formulados com CQ e CQ/PPD. O estudo descrito no Capítulo 3 verificou a influência dos diferentes sistemas fotoiniciadores (CQ, PPD e CQ/PPD) no desenvolvimento da tensão de polimerização e propriedades resultantes (GC e densidade de ligações cruzadas, DLC) de compósitos restauradores. A hipótese testada foi de que PPD e/ou CQ/PPD poderia reduzir a tensão de polimerização sem reduzir GC e DLC. TPmax foi aferida por DSC e a tensão por um sistema de alavanca (Bioman). GC, avaliado por FTIR, e DLC (medido indiretamente pelo coeficiente inchamento) foram determinados a partir das amostras removidas do Bioman. De acordo com os resultados, pode-se concluir que o sistema CQ/PPD foi capaz de reduzir a taxa máxima de tensão sem reduzir o GC e a DLC Abstract: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the application of alternative photoinitiators in dental resin composites. The work was divided into two Chapters in order to make the objectives clearer. The specific aims of the Chapter 1 were: 1) to evaluate the maximum rate of polymerization (Rpmax), degree of conversion (DC), hardness and yellowing of resin composites formulated with camphorquinone (CQ), phenylpropanedione (PPD) or CQ/PPD at three different concentrations; 2) to evaluate the absorbed power density (PDabs, in mW/cm3) by the different systems (parameter used to estimate the correlation between photoinitiators¿ absorption and light emission spectra). The hypotheses tested were: a) PPD and/ or CQ/PPD could reduce the yellowing degree and Rpmax without reduction in the DC and hardness; b) Rpmax, DC and hardness are directly dependent on the PDabs. Rate of polymerization was evaluated with differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), DC with Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), hardness with Knoop indentation and yellowing with a chromameter (b axis). According the results, it was concluded that: 1) CQ/PPD reduced the Rpmax without affecting DC and hardness; 2) the yellowing reduction by PPD formulations was possible only at low concentration and 3) Rpmax, DC and hardness are dependent on the PDabs. The 2nd study evaluated the effect of amine ratio on the Rpmax, DC, hardness, water sorption (Wsp), water solubility (Wsl) and color changes (?E) over time of composites formulated with CQ, PPD and CQ/PPD. Photoinitiator:amine ratios 2:1, 1:1, 1:1.5 and 1:2, by weight, were used in experimental composites. Rpmax wasevaluated with DSC, DC with DSC and FTIR, hardness with Knoop indentation, Wsp and Wsl adapted from ISO 4049; and ?E with a chromameter. The results showed that the higher the amine ratio, the higher was DC, Rpmax, hardness and lower was Wsl, regardless of the photoinitiator type. The use of PPD alone resulted in poorer properties than CQ and CQ/PPD. Many factors seem to affect the ?E. The higher was the amine ratio, the higher was the yellowing for CQ and CQ/PPD formulations. Thus, it is possible to conclude that the use of PPD alone was not advantageous; the photoinitiator efficiency was dependent on the amine ratio, regardless of the photoinitiator type; and the amine ratio affected the yellowing for composites with CQ and CQ/PPD. The third study evaluated the influence of different photoinitiator systems (CQ, PPD or CQ/PPD) on the stress of polymerization development and composites¿ resultant properties (DC and crosslinking density, CLD). The hypothesis tested was that PPD and/ or CQ/PPD could reduce the stress development without affecting the final DC and CLD. Besides the DSC evaluation, stress development was checked with a cantilever apparatus (Bioman), DC with a FTIR and CLD was indirectly assessed trough the swelling coefficient. Nesta perspectiva, as instituições de ensino são desafiadas a desenvolver práticas pedagógicas integradas ao ambiente virtual. Para isto, entre outros aspectos, é preciso conhecer o perfil da tecnologia utilizada pelos alunos para elaborar conteúdos didáticos e práticas pedagógicas alinhadas com o modo de uso das TICs pelos estudantes. Sendo assim, o objetivo deste trabalho foi investigar o uso da TIC por alunos de graduação de Odontologia no processo de aprendizado, considerando o perfil de acesso a Internet e o interesse por temas de vídeos de materiais odontológicos. A amostra do estudo foi composta por um grupo de 597 alunos de Odontologia das Universidades Federais de Pelotas (UFPel), Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) e Fluminense (UFF). Foi utilizado questionário autoaplicável entregue em papel ao estudante em sala de aula. O questionário continha questões sobre utilização das TICs no aprendizado individual e colaborativo, a utilização de aplicativos para estudar Odontologia e interesse por temas de vídeos relacionados a materiais odontológicos. Constatou-se que os discentes utilizam recursos das TICs no processo de aprendizagem individual bem como recursos de comunicação mediados pela Internet no aprendizado colaborativo. O acesso para estudar é feito principalmente por dispositivos móveis. Os websites mais utilizados são o Google.com, YouTube e Passei Direto, enquanto o website menos acessado dentre os listados foi o Portal Capes. A comunicação entre os estudantes é realizada principalmente por meio de mensagens instantâneas, especialmente via o aplicativo WhatsApp. Quanto ao formato de conteúdos para estudar Odontologia, a maioria prefere usar conteúdos no formato físico, como livros e fotocópias, ao invés de formatos digitais. Quanto ao uso de aplicativos, menos da metade dos entrevistados os utiliza no aprendizado. No que diz respeito ao interesse por vídeos relacionados a temas de materiais odontológicos, a maioria dos entrevistados manifestaram interesse pelos temas apresentados e indicaram um total de 1248 temas que despertam seu interesse em vídeos. Os pontos identificados pelo estudo permitiram traçar um perfil geral da utilização das TICs pelos respondentes, suscitam a reflexão sobre a adoção e desenvolvimento de ferramentas digitais no processo ensino-aprendizagem, bem como de metodologias híbridas de ensino que podem ser integradas tanto à área de materiais odontológicos quanto ao ensino de graduação em Odontologia de forma geral. The teaching-learning process has in the novel information and communications technologies (ICTs), in particular the Internet, an important tool. In this context, educational institutions are challenged to develop pedagogical practices integrated into the virtual environment. This approach demands, among other things, knowledge of the profile of the technology used by the students to develop educational content and pedagogical practices aligned with the use of ICTs by the students. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the use of ICTs by undergraduate dental students in the learning process, considering the profile of Internet access and interest in videos of dental materials topics. The study sample was composed by, 597 dental students from the Federal Universities of Pelotas (UFPel), Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), and Fluminense (UFF). A self-applicable paper questionnaire handed to the student in the classroom was used. The questionnaire contained questions on the use of ICTs in individual and collaborative learnings, the use of apps to study dentistry, and interest in topics of videos related to dental materials. It was found that the students use ICT resources in the process of individual learning as well as communication resources mediated by the Internet in collaborative learning. The access to study is done mainly by mobile devices. The websites most used are Google.com, YouTube, and Passei Direto, whereas the least accessed website amongst those listed was Portal Capes. Communication between students is carried out mainly through instant messaging, especially via WhatsApp app. Regarding the format of content to study dentistry, most students prefer to use content in physical format, such as books and photocopies, instead of digital formats. Less than half of the respondents use apps in learning. As regards the interest for videos related to dental materials topics, most respondents expressed interest in the topics presented and indicated a total of 1248 topics that they have interest in videos. The points identified by the present study can aid in drawing a general profile of the use of ICTs by the respondents, provoke reflection on the adoption and development of digital tools for the teaching-learning process, as well as hybrid teaching methodologies that can be integrated both into the dental materials area and the undergraduate dental education in general.

A primeira etapa envolveu a formulação de compósitos experimentais com a proposição de determinar a relação entre o sistema fotoiniciador e o conteúdo inorgânico sobre a estabilidade de cor e a eficiência de polimerização. Três sistemas fotoiniciadores foram empregados (canforquinona/amina – CQ/amina; óxido mono-alquil fosfínico - TPO e óxido bis-alquil fosfínico - BAPO) e dois tamanhos médios de partículas de sílica como carga (7nm ou 16nm). A eficiência de polimerização foi analisada pela dureza Knoop a 25kgf/mm2 por 15s utilizando microdurômetro. A estabilidade de cor foi calculada pela fórmula de diferença de cor CIELAB, mensurada com espectrofotômetro. Os materiais foram submetidos ao envelhecimento pela imersão em água e em solução de café. Os dados foram submetidos à Análise de Variância, seguidos pelo teste de Student-Newman-Keuls (a=0,05). Os materiais formulados com TPO apresentaram maior estabilidade de cor. O tamanho da partícula não influenciou os resultados da estabilidade de cor. A eficiência de polimerização não foi influenciada pelo sistema fotoiniciador ou pelo tamanho da partícula de carga. A segunda etapa deste projeto envolveu a avaliação de quatro compósitos comerciais (IPS Empress Direct, Estelite S Quick, Filtek Z350 XT e Opallis), com diferentes níveis de translucidez, com a proposição de verificar a relação entre o nível de translucidez e a estabilidade de cor, assim como entre o nível de translucidez e a eficiência de polimerização. A eficiência de polimerização foi analisada pelo grau de conversão de C=C utilizando espectroscopia no infravermelho transformada de Fourier, enquanto a estabilidade de cor foi avaliada pela fórmula de diferença de cor CIEDE2000. Os dados foram submetidos à Análise de Variância e teste de Student-Newman-Keuls (a=0,05). Foi observado que quanto maior a translucidez, menor a estabilidade de cor dos compósitos odontológicos, apesar de não ter sido observada diferença significativa em relação à eficiência de polimerização. De acordo com os resultados dos estudos pode ser concluído que o sistema fotoiniciador, o tamanho das partículas de carga e a translucidez afetaram a estabilidade de cor dos compósitos odontológicos apesar de não ter sido observada influência destes sobre a eficiência de polimerização. The objective of this study, separated in two phases, was to investigate the process related to resin-based composites’ formulation and translucency over the color stability and cure efficiency. The first phase involved experimental resin-based composite formulations with the purpose to determine the relationship between the photoinitiator system and inorganic content over the color stability and cure efficiency. Three different photoinitiator systems were used (camphorquinone/amine – CQ/amine, monoalquil oxide – TPO, and bisalquil oxide – BAPO) and two average silica nanofiller sizes (7 nm or 16 nm). The cure efficiency was analyzed by Knoop hardness reading under 25kgf/mm² for 15s using a microindenter. The color stability was measured by CIELAB color difference formula measured with a spectrophotometer. The materials were aged by immersion in water and coffee solution. Data were submitted to Analysis of Variance followed by Student-Newman-Keuls’ test (a=0.05). TPO-based materials presented the higher color stability. The filler size did not influence the color stability results. The cure efficiency was not influenced by photoinitiator system or filler size. The second phase involved four commercial resin-based composites (IPS Empress Direct, Estelite S Quick, Filtek Z350 XT and Opallis) tested in different translucent degrees with the purpose to determine the relationship between translucency and color stability and between translucency and cure efficiency. The cure efficiency was analyzed by degree of C=C conversion using Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy. The color stability was measured by CIEDE2000 color difference formula. Data were submitted to Analysis of Variance and Student-Newman-Keuls’ test (a=0.05). It was observed that the higher the translucency, the lower the color stability, despite no significant difference in cure efficiency results. Based on the results from both studies, it can be concluded that the photoinitiator system, filler-particle size and translucency affect the color stability of resin-based composites although no significant influence on the cure efficiency was observed.
