The distribution of abrasive particles in fluids is an important research topic in the study of abrasive waterjet cutting processes. However, it is impossible to obtain the accurate distribution law and influencing factors by performing only experiments; therefore, it is necessary to study abrasive waterjet cutting processes with the help of numerical models. The existing numerical models usually adopt the form of artificial settings for the distribution of abrasive particles in fluid. This method cannot accurately simulate the random distribution of particles. In this paper, the random algorithm method is used to simulate the impact azimuth and the random distribution of abrasive particles in water. The smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method is used to simulate the distribution of abrasive particles and the process of jet impingement. The influence of the particle distribution on the simulation results is studied. Comparisons show that the dent formed by the jet impinging on the target with random abrasive particles is similar to the dent from the actual cut, and the contour distribution of the dent is more uniform than that of the cut. The simulation results obtained by the SPH method are accurate.

This paper introduces a new mathematical procedure for the calculation of power cable ampacities in the case of water-cooled circuits. Both, internal and external cooling installations are considered. The algorithm permits a non-iterative calculation of the water temperature along the cooling length of the cables, evaluation of the heat absorbed and emitted by the cooling pipes as well as the effect of the water flow on the cable conductor temperature. Numerical examples show the effect of the direct and the indirect cooling on the ampacity of a 230 kV XLPE cable circuit.

Superconducting energy pipeline (SEP) is a new type of electrical energy transmission. It contains high‐temperature superconducting cables and liquefied natural gas pipelines and can simultaneously transmit electricity and liquefied natural gas (LNG). However, when the superconducting tapes in the superconducting cables in SEP quench and generate heat, bubbles will generate in the butt‐gaps of the insulation layer of superconducting cables, which can reduce the insulation strength of the cables significantly. In addition, the effects of bubbles in the butt‐gap of the insulation layer on the insulation properties of the superconducting cables are unknown. The objective here is to obtain the influences of bubbles in the insulation layer of superconducting cables in capacitive field, transitional field, and resistive field. Simulation results show that: Compared with the absence of bubbles, the big bubbles can increase the capacitive field strength of the PP film, the butt‐gap, and the kraft by 37.54%, 30.89%, and 18.5%, and increase the transition time from the capacitive field to the resistive field, but has almost no effect on the butt‐gap in the resistive field.

This review highlight approaches to the formation of an ordered distribution of conductive filler in polymer blends. This distribution leads to a significant decrease of the percolation threshold in the polymer mixture, i.e. to a decrease in the critical concentration of the filler, at which the transition of the system from a non-conductive to a conductive state occurs. This improves the mechanical properties of the composition and its processability. It is shown that the ordered structure of the filler is formed in the polymer blend upon mixing the components in the melt under the action of three factors - thermodynamic (the ratio between the values of the interfacial tension of the filler-polymer A and filler-polymer B, as well as between polymers A and B), kinetic (the ratio between viscosities of polymer components A and B) and technological (the intensity and temperature of processing, as well as the order of introduction of a filler into a heterogeneous polymer matrix, which can enhance or suppress the effect of thermodynamic or kinetic factors). On the example of the works performed by the author on mixtures of thermoplastics filled with electrically conductive carbon fillers such as carbon black and carbon nanotubes, as well as a metal filler - dispersed iron, with the involvement of literature data on filled polymer blends, the influence of each of the factors on the formation of an ordered structure of the conducting phase in polymer blends is shown.

Electromagnetic regulatory guidelines prescribed by the international and national organizations are in effect worldwide to protect humans from immediate health effects. For restricting human exposure to electromagnetic radiation in near field, a quantitative term ‘specific absorption rate (SAR) limit’ has been coined and well established in literature. In addition, reference power density limit has also been prescribed in far field for human safety. At the same time, plants and fruits also absorb reasonable amount of electromagnetic energy due to high permittivity and electrical conductivity. Unfortunately, there is not much concern regarding electromagnetic energy absorption in plants and fruits, and no prescribed SAR limit in spite of recent reports in literature. Unlike humans, plants and fruits are of asymmetric shapes and sizes; therefore even at a particular frequency and fixed reference power density, electromagnetic energy absorption rate i.e., SAR in plants and fruits is expected to differ depending upon angle of incidence and wave polarization. To address these issues in detail, a typical bunch of three single layered water apples has been prototyped and exposed to plane wave irradiation at five different frequency bands as per the existing Indian electromagnetic regulatory guidelines. Broadband dielectric properties of water apples have been measured using open ended coaxial probe technique; thereafter, measured dielectric properties have been fed into the designed model. At a particular frequency, reasonable variations in magnitude and position of maximum local point (MLP) SAR, 1 g averaged SAR, and 10 g averaged SAR data have been noted for six different combinations of angle of incidence and wave polarization. This whole course of action is repeated over five different frequency bands. Moreover, variations in observed SAR data are also compared with previously reported variations in SAR data for a multilayer fruit structure. Observations indicate different order of changes in SAR for different fruit structures due to similar combinations of frequency, power density, angle of incidence, and wave polarization. Hence, direct definition of SAR limits for plant and fruit structures should be adopted even in far field in conjunction with reference power density.

By the previous studies it was established that the character of solid fuel distribution throughout the bed height considerably effects the sintering machines productivity and the sinter quality. The purpose of the study was assessment of solid fuel distribution in the agglomerated burden throughout the height of bed at sintering machine. Sinter mix samples were taken from three sections of the bed: 150 mm - top part, 150 mm - middle part and 170 mm - bottom part at the sintering machines of NLMK. After screening the samples, particle size distribution was determined, as well as carbon content throughout the bed height and in the particles of different sizes. It was found that all solid fuel, irrespective of the size, gets balled into sinter mix granules, fine fuel (fraction -0.63 mm) was almost evenly distributed over the granules of different sizes, while coarse fuel (+3 mm) is mainly picked up by large granules. Solid fuel of -3 mm +0.63 mm fraction is mostly balled into 3-5 mm granules. Such nature of solid fuel distribution in the granules of the pelletized mix results in suboptimal distribution of fuel throughout the bed height at sintering machines No. 1, 2, despite satisfactory size segregation of the mix: it changes from low content in the top part to a higher content at the bottom of the bed. At sintering machines No. 3, 4 where there was no size segregation of the mix, fuel distribution throughout the bed height changes from optimal to non-optimal (low content in the top part). To optimize solid fuel distribution throughout the bed height with both good and poor segregation of the mix, it is necessary to reduce the content of 0-0.5 mm particles fraction in coke breeze.

The twisted structure of strand is ignored and the resistance of all parallel copper strands is assumed to be at the same temperature in existing temperature estimation method of water cooling stator windings. However, the twisted structure leads to the changing of thermal source and cooling structure, the uneven thermal distribution of parallel copper strands leads to uneven resistance distribution, both of which will influence thermal distribution of stator windings and should be considered in the temperature estimation method. In this study, the temperature estimation method considering twisted structure and uneven resistance distribution is first proposed, called three‐dimensional (3‐D) network method, in which the nodes of circuit network and thermal network are completely consistent. Then, the water cooling stator winding of a 1240‐MW turbo generator is taken as an example, the thermal distribution of which are calculated by the proposed method and validated by both short‐circuit type test data and 3‐D finite element method (FEM). Finally, the influence of twisted structure and resistance distribution on the thermal distribution is analysed in detail. The results show that the twisted structure has a great effect on thermal distribution, which cannot be ignored, while the resistance distribution has little effect on thermal distribution.

In the present work, the effects of in-process cooling are investigated on the material flow, temperature distribution, axial force, wear resistance, and microstructural and mechanical properties of friction stir processed (FSPed) Al-Si aluminum alloy. The finite element method (FEM) was developed for modeling the process, based on the eulerian-lagrangian technique, and then verified by the experimental force and temperature histories. Next, the material flow and temperature distribution during the friction stir process (FSP) with in-process cooling under different conditions were considered. After that, the experimental investigations, including the optical microscopy, hardness, and wear tests, were conducted. Finally, the stir zone (SZ) shape obtained by experiments and simulation model were compared for the FSPed samples without cooling and with air cooling. The material flow achievements reveal that using a coolant affects the material flow in the pin-driven zone more significantly than in the shoulder-driven zone, leading the SZ to change from the basin shape into the V shape. The SZ shapes obtained from the experiments and the simulation model show a good agreement between the shapes of the samples FSPed without cooling and with air cooling. Moreover, experimental results showed that using in-process cooling reduces Si particles' size and thus significantly increases the hardness and wear resistance. The Si particles size is reduced from 10 μm in the base metal to 2.6 μm and 2 μm in the air-cooled and water-cooled samples. Consequently, the wear mass loss reduced almost 28% and 40%, and hardness increased almost 35% and 80% for the air-cooled and water-cooled samples compared to the processed samples without coolant.

Electrothermal energy conversion provides attractive solutions for global energy management, such as energy harvesting from waste heat using pyroelectric energy conversion (PEC) and efficient cooling of portable electronics or data servers using the electrocaloric effect. Relaxor ferroelectrics are attractive for electrothermal energy conversion because of their large pyroelectric coefficients over a wide temperature range. Although Pb-based relaxors are well-known, toxicity concerns have mandated the intense search for Pb-free alternatives. Here, we engineered (Ba,Ca)TiO3-based relaxors based on a multisite doping strategy, which show promising electrothermal performance, viz. a maximum PEC efficiency of 14% and electrocaloric refrigeration capacity of 115 J/kg. Using local-scale structural analysis, we provide an atomistic model for large electrothermal properties in the newly designed Pb-free ferroelectrics, whereby a temperature-independent continuous distribution of cation displacement directions creates easy pathways for microscopic polarization reorientation. This research provides key structural insight for future atomic-scale engineering of environmentally sustainable ferroelectrics in energy applications.

The accuracy of optical current sensors in power systems will be affected by the interference of the external environment. Among them, temperature has a significant influence on the accuracy of optical current sensors, which is one of the main factors that restrict the practicality of optical current sensors. In this paper, the temperature field distribution of the optical current sensor with iron core is calculated by simulation. The influence of its structural parameters on the temperature field distribution is studied. It is compared with the temperature field distribution of the optical current sensor of the commonly used magnetic ring structure. It is found that under the same current, the temperature of the magneto-optical material with the core optical current sensor is much lower than the optical current mutual inductance of the common magnetic ring structure. The geometric structure parameters of the optical current sensor with iron core have a great influence on its temperature field distribution. The temperature field distribution can be improved by optimizing the structure parameters, thereby improving the measurement accuracy. This article can provide a basis for the design optimization of optical current sensors.

In vacuum interrupters, an insulation ability is degraded immediately after high current interruption, because of thermal electrons, metal vapors, and residual plasma. Thermal electrons and metal vapors are produced from the electrode surface, which is heated by the arc between electrodes. Therefore electrode temperature is affect insulation ability. It is important to measure the transient of temperature distribution at anode surface after current zero, for explication of interruption phenomenon in vacuum. Hence, two color pyrometer method with a high-speed camera for temperature measurement of electrode in vacuum was developed, and temperature of Cu-Cr spiral test electrode was measured after current zero by its method and time change of temperature distribution at anode wad obtained. Also, relationship between interruption current and time change of anode temperature was investigated.

In this study, the ECT system was used to study the temporal and spatial distribution characteristics of bed density in an ADMFB under the influence of superficial gas velocity and static bed height. The results show that, In the axial distribution, the closer to the top of the bed at low gas velocity( 13 cm/s), the lower the density. In the radial distribution, the closer to the central axis, the lower the density. With the decrease of static bed height, the radial uniformity becomes worse. The optimal gas velocity is 12.5 cm/s, under which the bed spatial distribution is the most uniform, and the ecart probable moyen of spherical particles is 0.06. The separation density is smaller than the bed density and is close to the central axis density.

Barium titanate (BaTiO3) nanocubes with a narrow particle size distribution were synthesized using a three-step approach. First, a water-soluble Ti complex was synthesized using a hydrolysis method. Next, the titanium dioxide (TiO2) raw material was synthesized via a hydrothermal method using various water-soluble titanium (Ti) complexes. The TiO2 exhibited various particle sizes and crystal structures (anatase, rutile, or brookite) depending on the water-soluble Ti complex and the hydrothermal conditions used in its synthesis. Finally, BaTiO3 nanocubes were subsequently created through a hydrothermal method using the synthesized TiO2 particles and barium hydroxide octahydrate [Ba(OH)2·8H2O] as raw materials. The present study clarifies that the particle size of the BaTiO3 nanocubes depends on the particle size of the TiO2 raw material. BaTiO3 particles with a narrow size distribution were obtained when the TiO2 particles exhibited a narrow size distribution. We found that the best conditions for the creation of BaTiO3 nanocubes using TiO2 involved using lactic acid as a complexing agent, which resulted in a particle size of 166 nm on average. This particle size is consistent with an average of the width of the cubes measured from corner to corner diagonally, which corresponds to a side length of 117 nm. In addition, surface reconstruction of the BaTiO3 was clarified via electron microscopy observations, identifying the outermost surface as a Ti layer. Electron tomography using high-angle annular dark-field (HAADF)-scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) confirmed the three-dimensional (3D) structure of the obtained BaTiO3 nanocubes.

Facing the unbalanced development of resource distribution and productivity, China needs long-distance power transmission and distribution. The long-distance power transmission will lead to a lot of power loss in the process of transmission. In order to achieve long-distance, large capacity, low loss power transmission, it is necessary to build UHV transmission and transformation lines in the power grid for cross regional power allocation. As the key equipment in UHV transmission and transformation, UHV bushing plays a very important role in UHV transmission and transformation line. However, due to working in UHV electric field for a long time, the reduction of UHV bushing failure rate is very important for the smooth operation of UHV transmission line. Therefore, it is necessary to study the electric field distribution characteristics of UHV bushing. In this paper, the electric field distribution characteristics of UHV through wall bushing are studied. The simulation analysis and calculation of electric field are carried out by using COMSOL Multiphysics finite element software. By analyzing the electric field distribution of the complex field areas such as the central conductor of the bushing, the end of the liner, the sheath and the capacitor core, the electric field distribution law and the edge electric field diagram of the bushing and its adjacent key areas under different voltage types are obtained. The radial axial electric field distribution of the capacitor core and the edge electric field distribution of the upper and lower steps are compared and analyzed Based on the analysis of the characteristics and local complex field, the variation law of the electric field distribution of the bushing with the structure design is obtained, which provides an optimization idea for the insulation structure design of UHV through wall bushing.

The main insulation structure of the valve‐side winding of converter transformer bears the effect of AC and DC superimposed voltage during operation. The electric field intensity in the pressboard is much higher than that in the pressboard in the AC transformer. This condition increases the probability of failure of insulation structure. Therefore, the design and optimization of the main insulation structure of the valve‐side winding are keys to ensure the stable operation of converter transformer. This study establishes a model of the main insulation structure of the valve‐side winding of the ±1100 kV converter transformer. The influence of the insulating oil–paper configuration on the electric field distribution of the main insulation structure of the valve‐side winding is analysed, and then, an optimization idea is proposed. The oil–paper configuration includes two aspects: oil–paper insulation structural design and combination selection, that is, the influence of typical oil–paper structural design parameters and the aging state of different oil–paper combinations on the electric field distribution. Finally, the optimization idea of the oil–paper configuration for valve‐side winding of converter transformer is obtained, and the established model is optimized.

Object of research: development of a technology for determining the temperature of the winding of a power oil transformer, in particular, the analysis of thermal processes in the winding of a power transformer during short-term overloads, taking into account the influence of the environment. Investigated problem: temperature distribution in the winding of a power oil transformer taking into account short-term load surges in the problem of assessing the residual life of the insulation of the transformer winding by temperature aging. The calculation of the temperature distribution in the winding was carried out using the passport data and characteristics of the power oil transformer, including the winding, transformer oil, load currents. Main scientific results: a mathematical model was calculated, with the help of which the results of temperature distribution in the transformer winding were obtained during short-term load surges or constant work with an increased load. According to the presented model, the analysis of the cooling time of the transformer winding after short-term overloads is carried out. Comparing the results obtained on the simulation model with the known results of experimental studies of the temperature distribution in the winding of a power transformer, the adequacy of the mathematical model is proved. It is shown that the use of the laws of heat transfer in a homogeneous plate to analyze the temperature distribution in the transformer winding is not wrong, but requires clarifications and simplifications. The area of practical use of the research results: enterprises of the machine-building industry and energy companies specializing in the production and operation of transformer equipment. Innovative technological product: simulation model of heat distribution in a transformer winding, which can take into account the load of the transformer, the effect of the environment on the insulation of the transformer windings. An innovative technological product: a method for diagnosing the duration of the non-failure operation of a transformer, which makes it possible to ensure trouble-free operation and save money for the repair of transformer equipment. Thermal buckling deformation can significantly impact the operating performance of hydro-viscous drive. A thermal buckling finite element shell model was established with the nonlinear radial temperature as the thermal loading condition. The thermal buckling behavior of friction pairs was investigated under three different boundary constraints. Moreover, the influence of thickness and material parameters on the critical buckling temperature was discussed. The simulation results coincide with the failure modes of friction pairs in practice, and the most common ones are the coning mode and the potato chip mode. The ability to resist thermal buckling deformation can be improved as the thickness increases. In addition, the steel disc with outer edge simply supported is more prone to thermal buckling, because the critical temperature is minimum. The thermal expansion coefficient is the primary factor in thermal buckling study, which is inversely proportional to the critical temperature. These provide a theoretical basis for avoiding thermal failure of friction pairs in a hydro-viscous drive.

The object of research is the filtration processes of displacement of the oil phase under the influence of an injection well in a heterogeneous porous medium. It is possible to evaluate and take into account the effect of reservoir heterogeneity on the distribution of reservoir pressure (and, consequently, on the intensity of the filtration process) using numerical modeling of filtration processes based on the piezoelectric equation. To solve the non-stationary anisotropic problem of piezoconductivity, it is proposed to apply the combined finite-element-difference method of M.Lubkov, which makes it possible to take into account the inhomogeneous distribution of permeability inside the anisotropic oil-bearing formation and at its boundaries, and to adequately calculate the distribution of reservoir pressure. The use of the combined finite-element-difference method allows to combine the advantages of the finite-element method and the finite difference method: to model geometrically complex areas, to find the value at any point of the object under study. At the same time, the use of an implicit difference scheme when finding the nodal values of the grid provides high reliability and convergence of the results. The simulation results show that the distribution of the pressure field between the production and injection wells significantly depends on their location, both in the isotropic landslide and in the anisotropic oil-bearing reservoir. It is shown that the distance between the wells of more than 1 km levels out the effectiveness of the impact of the injection well on the oil filtration process. The influence of the permeability of the oil phase in the shear direction dominates the influence of the permeability in the axial directions (affects the pressure decrease by 4–9.5%). In the case of a landslide-isotropic reservoir, the wells should be located in the shear (diagonal) direction, which will provide the lowest level of drop in the average reservoir pressure (by 4%). Based on the information obtained, for the effective use of anisotropic low-permeability formations, it is necessary to place production and injection wells in areas with relatively low anisotropy of the formation permeability, especially to avoid places with the presence of landslide permeability of the formation. The location of the wells is important so that, on the one hand, there is no blockage of oil from the side of reduced permeability, and on the other hand, rapid depletion of the formation from the side of increased permeability does not occur. And also the mutual exchange between the production and injection wells did not stop. When placing a system of production and injection wells in anisotropic formations of an oil field, it is necessary to carry out a systematic analysis of the surrounding anisotropy of the formations in order to place them in such a way that would ensure effective dynamics of filtration processes around these wells. Using the method used, it is possible to predict the impact of an injection well on the distribution of reservoir pressure in the reservoir.

The use of generators at different load levels allows you to use part of the rated power of the engines, by reducing the speed of the internal combustion engine, thus reducing fuel consumption and increase the overall efficiency of the system as a whole. However, it should be noted that the optimal operation of the internal combustion engine at fixed gas distribution parameters is possible only at a certain engine speed. Reducing the engine speed leads to a deterioration of the filling of the fuel-air mixture and the release of exhaust gases from the engine, accompanied by the intake of exhaust gases into the intake manifold and the emission of part of the fuel mixture into the exhaust pipe. The paper presents the results of the study of generator parameters and the general concept of creating an autonomous power supply control system based on an internal combustion engine in order to reduce the specific indicators of electricity generation. The expediency of regulating the power level of an internal combustion engine has been experimentally proved. To achieve this goal, it is proposed to adjust the opening and closing angles of the internal combustion engine with a solenoid valve. The use of this system allows to reduce the specific costs by more than 4 times when generating electricity with low generator load. Based on the phase distribution diagram of the internal combustion engine, the dependence of the change of the opening and closing angles of the inlet and outlet valves on the power of the autonomous energy source is proposed.
