Harmonik serinin ilk $n$ teriminin toplamına /emph{$n$. harmonik sayı} denir; şöyle ki $n /ge 1$ için,$$h_n = /sum_{k=1}^n /frac 1 k.$$Bu sayılar, bir takım aritmetik özellikleri sağlar. The /emph{$n$-th harmonic number} is the sum of the first $n$ terms of the harmonic series, namely$$h_n = /sum_{k=1}^n /frac 1 k,$$for $n /ge 1$. These numbers enjoy several arithmetic properties. For instance, it was first shown by Theisinger in 1915 that the $n$-th harmonic number is not an integer, when $n /ge 2.$ A generalization of these numbers was introduced by Conway and Guy in 1996. They defined /emph{the $n$-th hyperharmonic number of order $r$} as $$h_n^{(r)} = /sum_{k=1}^n h_k^{(r-1)},$$where $h_n^{(1)} = h_n$ and $n,r /in /mathbb Z^+$ such that $n /ge 1$ and $r /ge 2$. In 2007, it was conjectured by Mez/H o that there does not exist any hyperharmonic integer except 1. In the same paper, he also proved that $h_n^{(r)}$ is not an integer, for any integer $n>1$ and $r /le 3.$ In this thesis, we improve the known upper bounds for the order of non-integer hyperharmonic numbers. In particular, we show that for any $r /le 35/, 001$ and $n>1$, the corresponding hyperharmonic number is not an integer. Also, if $n$ is even or a prime power, or $r$ is odd, then the same property holds for $h_n^{(r)}$. Moreover, using the prime numbers in short intervals, we deduce that almost all $(n,r)$ tuples give us hyperharmonic numbers which are not integers. On the contrary, our final analysis leads to the existence of hyperharmonic integers. More precisely, for $r=64/cdot(2^/alpha - 1) +32$, the hyperharmonic number $h_{33}^{(r)}$ is integer for 153 different values of $/alpha /mod{748/, 440}$, where the smallest $r$ is equal to $64/cdot(2^{2659} - 1) +32$. This construction yields the infinitude of hyperharmonic integers, and refutes the conjecture of Mez/H o. 85

A family of Apery-like series involving reciprocals of central binomial coefficients is studied and it is shown that they represent transcendental numbers. The structure of such series is further examined in terms of finite combinations of logarithms and arctangents with arguments and coefficients belonging to a suitable algebraic extension of rationals. Monotonicity of certain quotients of weighted binomial sums which arise in the study of competitive cheap talk models is established with the help of a continuous extension of the discrete model at hand. Bu çalışmada, Dedekind zeta fonksiyonları için Siegel sıfırlarına izin veren Rie-mann hipotezinin daha güçsüz formunu varsayarak, kısa aralıklardaki asal sayılarınsayısı ile ilgili Cramer sonucunu, döngüsel uzantılardaki tamsayılar halkasının norm-ları bu tip aralıklarda olan asal ideallerine genişletiyoruz. Bu uzantı döngüsel uzantıderecesine göre tekdüzedir. Bizim yaklaşımımızda, döngüsel cisimlerin aritmetiği veonların Dedekind zeta fonksiyonlarının analitik özellikleri ile beraber benzer varsayımlaratabi tutularak elde edilen kısa aralıklardaki diziler üzerindeki asal sayıların sayısınınalt sınırı esas alınmıştır. Dizi modulüsüne göre tekdüzelik elde edilmiştir ve Brun-Titchmarsh teoreminde gösterildiği gibi, elde ettiğimiz alt sınırın sabit sayılar haricindeen iyi alt sınır olduğu ortaya çıkmıştır. Assuming a weaker form of the Riemann hypothesis for Dedekind zeta functions by allowing Siegel zeros, we extend a classical result of Cramér on the number of primes in short intervals to prime ideals of the ring of integers in cyclotomic extensions with norms belonging to such intervals. The extension is uniform with respect to the degree of the cyclotomic extension. Our approach is based on the arithmetic of cyclotomic fields and analytic properties of their Dedekind zeta functions together with a lower bound for the number of primes over progressions in short intervals subject to similar assumptions. Uniformity with respect to the modulus of the progression is obtained and the lower bound turns out to be best possible, apart from constants, as shown by the Brun-Titchmarsh theorem. 70

Answering a question of Erdös, Komlós proved in 1968 that almost all n×n Bernoulli matrices are nonsingular as n→∞. In this paper, we offer a new perspective on the question of Erdös by studying n×n matrices with prime number entries in an almost all sense. Precisely, it is shown that, as x→∞, the probability of randomly choosing a nonsingular n×n matrix among all n×n matrices with prime number entries that are ≤x is 1. If A is a unitary matrix, then it is well known that |detA|=1. However, the converse is far from being true. As a remedy of this defect, we search for necessary and sufficient conditions for being a unitary matrix by teaming up determinant with trace. In this way, we are led to simple characterizations of unitary matrices in the set of normal matrices. The question of which nonsingular commuting complex matrices with real eigenvalues have the same characteristic polynomial is formulated via determinant and trace conditions. Finally, through a study of eigenvectors, we obtain new characterizations of Hermitian and normal matrices. Our approach to proving these results benefits from a modular interpretation of nonsingularity and the spectral theorem for normal operators together with equality cases of classical inequalities such as the arithmetic–geometric mean inequality and the Cauchy–Schwarz inequality., NA

We obtain an exact formula for the average of values of L-series over two independent odd characters. The average of any positive moment of values at s = 1 is then expressed in terms of finite cotangent sums subject to congruence conditions. Bu çalışmada, Olasılıksal Sayılar Teorisinin temel teoremi olarak bilinen Erdös-Kac teoreminin farklı ispatlarının yanısıra aynı konuyla ilgili birkaç çalışma verilmiştir. Öncelikle ana teoremi kompleks fonksiyon teorisi kullanmadan elementer metotlarla ispatlayarak hata terimi içermeyen bir asimptotik buluyoruz. İkinci kısımda, olasılıktan gelen bir teoremle, Riemann zeta-fonksiyonun ve genel Dririchlet serilerinin bazı özellikleri kullanılarak bulunan asimptotiğin yanısıra hata terimi de hesaplanmıştır. Son kısımda ise, konuyla ilgili elementer metotlar kullanılarak yapılan iki farklı çalışma incelenmiştir. This study presents different proofs and applications of the celebrated Erdös-Kac theorem, named after Paul Erdös and Mark Kac, also known as the fundamental theorem of probabilistic number theory which states that if n is a randomly chosen large integer, then the number of distinct prime factors of n has approximately the normal distribution with mean and variance log log n.We first give the original proof from the authors which is so called elementary proof meaning that the complex functin theory is not used. This proof does not give an error term but rather gives an asymptotic result. In the second part we give the proof of A. Renyi and P. Turan which makes use of the standard tools of analytic number theory, Dirichlet series, contour integration. Although the latter method is not elementary, it is much simpler than the original proof and also helps us get an error term besides an asymptotic result.Finally we use the article ` On the Normal Number of Prime Factors of phi (n)` by Paul Erdös and Carl Pomerance where `phi` is Euler's function. We also give the related result for the divisor function which counts the number of positive divisors for a given integer. 53

Daha sonraüçüncü bolümde Wiener-Ikehara Tauberian Teoremini kanıtlayıp, bununsonucunda Asal Sayı Teoremini kanıtlamak için Riemann Zeta fonksiyonununRe(s)=1 doğrusu üzerinde hiç sıfırının olmamasının yeterli olacağını göstereceğiz.Dördüncü bolümde, Beurling'in genelleştirilmiş Asal Sayı Teoremini tamsayıların sadeceçarpma altında kapalı olan kümeleri üzerine kanıtlayacağızve bu teoremin sınırlarını araştıracağız. In this study, we first prove the classical Prime Number Theorem whichgives an estimate on the number of primes not exceeding x where xis a given real number.Then, in the third chapter we prove the Wiener-Ikehara Tauberian Theoremand as a result of this theorem, we deduce the Prime Number Theorem just from the non-vanishingof the Riemann Zeta function on the line Re(s)=1.In chapter four, we prove Beurling's Generalized Prime Number Theoremon semi-groups of integers and we investigate the boundary condition of this theorem.Also, we consider the partial sums of the Mobius function over such semi-groupsand we show the difference between the Generalized Prime Number Theorem andthe partial sums of the Mobius function over semi-groups.Based on this difference, in the last part (which is a joint work withmy supervisor Assoc. Prof. Emre Alkan) we give quantitative estimates on partial sums of theMobius function over semi-groups that are also in a given arithmetic progression.Lastly, we apply our results to the fractions. 81

Bu çalışmada, Euler phi fonksiyonu ve bölme fonksiyonunun ortalama büyüme değerinde çıkan hata terimleri analiz edilmiştir. Amacımız bu hata terimleri için omega türü bir değer bulma ve bu hata terimlerinin sonsuz defa işaret değiştirdiğini göstermektir. Birinci bölümde Sayılar Teorisindeki temel argümaları kullanarak, Euler phi fonksiyonunun ortalama büyüme değerinde çıkan hata teriminin, ortalama büyüme değerini hesaplıyoruz ve bu hata terimi için omega türü bir değer buluyoruz. İkinci bölümde, bu hata teriminin sonsuz defa işaret değiştirdiğini gösteriyoruz. Bu sonuç, hata teriminin aritmetik diziler üzerinde toplanması ile elde edilmiştir. Üçüncü bölümde, ilk iki bölümde bulduğumuz sonuçları geliştirmek için ileri metotlardan faydalanıyoruz. In this study, we analyze the error terms in average orders of Euler phi function and divisor function. Our aim is to obtain a omega type estimation for these error terms and show that they change sign infinitely often. In the first part, we find the average value of the error term in the average order of Euler phi function and obtain a omega type estimation for this error term by employing basic arguments in Number Theory. In the second part, we show that this error term changes sign infinitely often. We accomplish this result by averaging this error term over arithmetic progressions. In the third part we utilize complicated methods to improve the results that we found in the first two parts. Finally, we combine the methods we used up to this section and apply them to the divisor function which is defined to be the sum of divisors of a given number n which is relatively prime to a. 74

Bu çalışmada, herhangi bir x sayısına kadar olan asal sayıların kaç tane olduğuna dair sonuçlar veren Asal Sayı Teoreminin farklı ispatları verilmiştir. Öncelikle Asal Sayı Teoremini kompleks fonksiyon teorisi kullanmadan, elementer metodlarla ispatlıyoruz. Bu ispatta x'e kadar olan asalları sayan fonksiyona, hata terimi içermeyen bir asimptotik buluyoruz. İkinci kısımda ise, Asal Sayı Teoremine üstel hata terimi de içeren iki farklı analitik ispat veriyoruz. İspatlarda Riemann zeta-fonksiyonun özellikleri sıkça kullanıldığından, bu fonksiyonun bir çok özelliği de çalışılmıştır. Son olarak aritmetik dizilerde Asal Sayı Teoremini ele alıyoruz. Bu teorem ise belirli bir aritmetik diziye ait, x'ten büyük olmayan asalların sayısına bir asimptotik vermektedir. Riemann zeta-fonksiyonunun Asal Sayı Teoreminin ispatında oynadığı rolü, bu kısımda Dirichlet L-fonksiyonları üstlenmiştir. Bu sebeple son bölümde Dirichlet L-fonksiyonunun özellikleri çalışılmıştır. In this study, we give different proofs of the Prime Number Theorem which gives an estimate on the number of primes not exceeding x, for a given real number x. We first prove the theorem with elementary methods in which we do not get use of any complex function theory. This proof does not give an error term but rather gives an asymptotic to the function counting primes up to x. In the second part we give two analytic proofs of the PNT with exponential error terms, the last one providing a better error term. Many of the properties of the Riemann zeta-function are studied since we use them frequently along the way. Finally we give the PNT for arithmetic progressions which gives an estimate on the number of primes not exceeding x belonging to a certain arithmetic progression. The role of the Dirichlet L-functions serves as an analogue to Riemann zeta-function's role in the proof of PNT. So we study the properties of the Dirichlet L-functions as well. 86
