In this paper we give the complete description of the structure of compact global (forward) attractors for non-autonomous perturbations of discrete autonomous gradient-like dynamical systems under the assumption that the original discrete autonomous system has a finite number of hyperbolic stationary solutions. We prove that the perturbed non-autonomous (in particular τ-periodic, quasi-periodic, Bohr almost periodic, almost automorphic, recurrent in the sense of Birkhoff) system has exactly the same number of invariant sections (in particular the perturbed systems has the same number of τ-periodic, quasi-periodic, Bohr almost periodic, almost automorphic, recurrent in the sense of Birkhoff solutions). It is shown that the compact global (forward) attractor of non-autonomous perturbed system coincides with the union of unstable manifolds of this finite number of invariant sections.

We analyze the dynamics of a generalized discrete time population model of a two-stage species with recruitment and capture. This generalization, which is inspired by other approaches and real data that one can find in literature, consists in considering no restriction for the value of the two key parameters appearing in the model, that is, the natural death rate and the mortality rate due to fishing activity. In the more general case the feasibility of the system has been preserved by posing opportune formulas for the piecewise map defining the model. The resulting two-dimensional nonlinear map is not smooth, though continuous, as its definition changes as any border is crossed in the phase plane. Hence, techniques from the mathematical theory of piecewise smooth dynamical systems must be applied to show that, due to the existence of borders, abrupt changes in the dynamic behavior of population sizes and multistability emerge. The main novelty of the present contribution with respect to the previous ones is that, while using real data, richer dynamics are produced, such as fluctuations and multistability. Such new evidences are of great interest in biology since new strategies to preserve the survival of the species can be suggested.

The paper is dedicated to the study of the problem of continuous dependence of compact global attractors on parameters of non-autonomous dynamical systems and infinite iterated function systems (IIFS). We prove that if a family of non-autonomous dynamical systems ‹ $(X,\mathbb T_1,\pi_{\lambda}),(Y,\mathbb T_{2},\sigma),h $ › depending on parameter $\lambda\in\Lambda$ is uniformly contracting (in the generalized sense), then each system of this family admits a compact global attractor $J^{\lambda}$ and the mapping $\lambda \to J^{\lambda}$ is continuous with respect to the Hausdorff metric. As an application we give a generalization of well known Theorem of Bransley concerning the continuous dependence of fractals on parameters.

In this study we will research the dynamics shown by a cobweb-type model with hyperbolic demand, sigmoidal supply and with backward-looking mechanism of expectation creation, whereby the new state of the system is obtained from all the previous states observed by weighted arithmetical mean with exponentially decreasing weights in the ρ region. The study herewith presented aims at confirming the existence of a stabilising effect due to the presence of infinite memory since, with all the other conditions begin the same, a memory rate $${\bar \rho }$$ > exists at which market equilibrium is a sink. An unstable system, therefore, becomes stable in the presence of sufficiently resistant expectations with infinite historical memory, although this transition to stability is accompanied by the onset of chaos. The resulting effect, therefore is one of “qualitative destabilisation,” that is with reference to the qualitative dynamic performance produced, associated to a “quantitative stabilisation,” that is to say with reference to the decreasing width of the invariant sets within which relevant dynamics occur.

We analyze the dynamics produced by the neoclassical one-sector growth model with differential savings as in [3] while assuming a sigmoidal production function as in [8] and the labor force dynamics described by the Beverton Holt equation, as proposed in [2]. The resulting discrete time dynamic system is bidimensional, autonomous and triangular: we determine its invariant sets and study their local stability. We also perform a mainly numerical analysis to show that complex features are exhibited, related both to the structure of the coexixting attractors and to their basins. The study presented shows that complexity emerges if the elasticity of substitution between production factors is low enough and shareholders save more than workers, thus confirming the results obtained with concave production functions (see [6], [7] and [9]).

A dynamic Cournot duopoly game, whose time evolution is modeled by the iteration of a map T :Ox; yU!O r 1O yU ; r 2O xUU, is considered. Results on the existence of cycles and more complex attractors are given, based on the study of the one-dimensional map FOxUaO r 1 r 2UOxU. The property of multistability, i.e. the existence of many coexisting attractors (that may be cycles or cyclic chaotic sets), is proved to be a characteristic property of such games. The problem of the delimitation of the attractors and of their basins is studied. These general results are applied to the study of a particular duopoly game, proposed in M. Kopel [Chaos, Solitons & Fractals, 7 (12) (1996) 2031‐2048] as a model of an economic system, in which the reaction functions r1 and r2 are logistic maps. ” 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. We study the dynamics of a duopoly game a la Bertrand with horizontal product differentiation as proposed by Zhang et al. (2009) [35] by introducing opportune microeconomic foundations. The final model is described by a two-dimensional non-invertible discrete time dynamic system T . We show that synchronized dynamics occurs along the invariant diagonal being T symmetric; furthermore, we show that when considering the transverse stability, intermittency phenomena are exhibited. In addition, we discuss the transition from simple dynamics to complex dynamics and describe the structure of the attractor by using the critical lines technique. We also explain the global bifurcations causing a fractalization in the basin of attraction. Our results aim at demonstrating that an increase in either the degree of substitutability or complementarity between products of different varieties is a source of complexity in a duopoly with price competition.

We study the dynamics shown by the discrete time neoclassical one-sector growth model with differential savings as in Bohm and Kaas [4] while assuming VES production function in the form given by Revankar [24] . It is shown that the model can exhibit unbounded endogenous growth despite the absence of exogenous technical change and the presence of non-reproducible factors if the elasticity of substitution is greater than one. We then consider parameters range related to non-trivial dynamics (i.e. the elasticity of substitution in less than one and shareholders save more than workers) and we focus on local and global bifurcations causing the transition to more and more complex asymptotic dynamics. In particular, as our map is non-differentiable in a subset of the states space, we show that border collision bifurcations occur. Several numerical simulations support the analysis.

We consider a discrete-time growth model of the Solow type where workers and shareholders have different but constant saving rates and the population growth dynamics is described by the logistic equation able to exhibit complicated dynamics. We show conditions for the resulting system having a compact global attractor and we describe its structure. We also perform a mainly numerical analysis using the critical lines method able to describe the strange attractor and the absorbing area, in order to show how cyclical or complex fluctuations may be produced in a business-cycle model. We study the dynamic behaviour of the model under different ranges of the main parameters, i.e. the elasticity of substitution between the two production factors and the one in the logistic equation (namely μ). We prove the existence of complex dynamics when the elasticity of substitution between production factors drops below one (so that capital income declines) or μ increases (so that the amplitude of movements in the population growth rate increases).

We consider the dynamics of a stochastic cobweb model with linear demand and a backward-bending supply curve. In our model, forward-looking expectations and backward-looking ones are assumed, in fact we assume that the representative agent chooses the backward predictor with probability 𝑞 _ , _ _ 0 _ 𝑞 _ 1 , and the forward predictor with probability ( 1 − 𝑞 ) , so that the expected price at time 𝑡 is a random variable and consequently the dynamics describing the price evolution in time is governed by a stochastic dynamical system. The dynamical system becomes a Markov process when the memory rate vanishes. In particular, we study the Markov chain in the cases of discrete and continuous time. Using a mixture of analytical tools and numerical methods, we show that, when prices take discrete values, the corresponding Markov chain is asymptotically stable. In the case with continuous prices and nonnecessarily zero memory rate, numerical evidence of bounded price oscillations is shown. The role of the memory rate is studied through numerical experiments, this study confirms the stabilizing effects of the presence of resistant memory.

The paper is dedicated to the study of the problem of the existence of compact global attractors of discrete inclusions and to the description of its structure. We consider a family of continuous mappings of a metric space W into itself, and ( W , f i ) i ∈ I is the family of discrete dynamical systems. On the metric space W we consider a discrete inclusion (1) u t + 1 ∈ F ( u t ) associated with M ≔ { f i : i ∈ I } , where F ( u ) = { f ( u ) : f ∈ M } for all u ∈ W . We give sufficient conditions (the family of maps M is contracting in the extended sense) for the existence of a compact global attractor of (1) . If the family M consists of a finite number of maps, then the corresponding compact global attractor is chaotic. We study this problem in the framework of non-autonomous dynamical systems (cocyles).

The article is devoted to the study of quasi-linear nonautonomous difference equations: invariant manifolds, compact global attractors, almost periodic and recurrent solutions and chaotic sets. First, we prove that such equations admit an invariant continuous section (an invariant manifold). Then, we obtain the conditions for the existence of a compact global attractor and characterize its structure. Third, we derive a criterion for the existence of almost periodic and recurrent solutions of the quasi-linear nonautonomous difference equations. Finally, we prove that quasi-linear maps with chaotic base admit a chaotic compact invariant set. The obtained results are applied while studying triangular maps: invariant manifolds, compact global attractors, almost periodic and recurrent solutions and chaotic sets.
