This paper designs and develops a new type of frame-foot wall-climbing robot structure. According to the bionic principle, a new parallel telescopic leg structure is proposed, and the 3D design of the overall structure of the wall-climbing robot is completed. Secondly, the kinematics analysis of the robot is carried out, and the forward and inverse solution models of the leg structure position are completed to verify the feasibility of the leg structure stability. Based on the polynomial motion equations, the robot motion planning and gait design are established, and the speed and acceleration change graphs of the leg structure slider are obtained, which avoids the rigid impact between the parts, and realizes the alternate adsorption and continuous movement of the robot legs, which the rationality of the legs structure design and the stability of the movement are verified. Through simulation and experimental results, it is shown that during the robot’s movement, the leg structure can adjust the step distance and step height according to obstacles, so as to achieve the expected obstacle crossing goal. The leg structure is adjusted according to the working environment to ensure that the fuselage and the working surface are always kept parallel to improve the stability of the overall structure.

The electric field optimization minimizing the field strength on an electrode surface and providing its uniformity is important in designing high voltage power transformer bushings and other apparatus from the viewpoint of efficient utilization of the electric field space. The high voltage power transformer bushing with cylinder electrode system has been designed and tested in this investigation. It was found that the insulation method of the cylinder electrode was the most important factor to lower streamer initiation voltage. The optimized design uses both internal and external elements for electric stress grading at critical parts of the bushing. Applying optimization theory based on charge simulation method, the author developed a computation program for electric field automatic optimization in 3D dielectric axisymmetric field. The results of the computation realized some excellent electrode profiles with uniform electric field distribution. Moreover, the discrepancy from the electric field uniformity on 3D dimensional profile caused by applying it to an axisymmetric electrode was discussed. Then a new electrode with uniform field distribution was obtained by using the computation program for optimization.

El desarrollo de este proyecto parte del interés personal y profesional por el uso de nuevas tecnologías en los procesos de ingeniería mecánica, lo cual hacer parte de las tendencias de la industria 4.0 que se caracteriza por la integración del software y el Internet en la automatización y alta precisión de mecanismos y máquinas. Por este motivo, la idea de realizar un plan de negocio es una oportunidad de incursionar en este campo laboral, donde primero es necesario determinar la factibilidad que tiene la creación de una empresa que se dedique al diseño mecánico asistido por computador, teniendo en cuenta la oportunidad de mercado que se observa por los avances tecnológicos en materia de software de simulación para diseñar elementos mecánicos con alta precisión milimétrica. Asimismo, se tiene en cuenta que este tipo de emprendimientos ha sido poco estudiado y es relevante realizar un análisis sobre los diferentes aspectos que definen la viabilidad de una empresa de diseño mecánico asistido por computador. Se podrán definir las características del mercado como es el perfil de los clientes potenciales, los productos, nivel de precios, competidores y demanda estimada. También, se establecerán los factores técnicos de localización, tamaño e ingeniería del proceso que, junto con el planteamiento administrativo y legal, reducen el grado de incertidumbre sobre la puesta en marcha de este tipo de empresas. Como finalidad, se realizará el análisis y la evaluación financiera del proyecto para determinar la factibilidad económica y si se trata de una decisión recomendada como profesional e inversionista. A marine turbocharger 3D compressor design tool, implemented on an existing marine turbocharger retrofit platform is presented. It produces 3D centrifugal compressor geometry for optimal compressor retrofit. It encompasses two modules, allowing the design process to become fully automatic. First, a 1D compressor multi-point design optimization process is carried out, aiming to provide a fast and reliable solution based on Turbocharged diesel Engine range of operation. Structural integrity is ensured by using simplified structural analysis. Dimensionless parameters are used as optimization variables, for a given nominal compressor mass flow and power. Then a CFD compressor multi-point design optimization process is carried out, producing optimized 3D compressor geometry. It complies with the Turbocharged diesel Engine range of operation, while structural integrity is ensured by using Finite Element analysis. A turbocharger compressor design case study is presented. First, a turbocharger 1D compressor design is carried out, aiming to at least reconstituting the original diesel engine performance. This first module provides a reliable compressor initial geometry for the 3D design module. A fully 3D compressor design is then performed, using a CFD-FEA optimization process, in order to provide an improved retrofitting solution. Comparison between the multi-point and the traditional one-point design method, shows that the multi-point method provides a wider SFC reduction in the range that the Diesel engine normally operates.

C-reactive protein (CRP) plays an important role in inflammation detection and disease monitoring. The optical biosensor is a highly sensitive and easy detection tool. The microfluidic self-driving optical sensors were fabricated with transparent glass material and used for the enhanced surface plasmon resonance (SPR) optical detection of the model protein CRP using Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) and a sandwich immune reaction. The 3D design of the chip was devised to improve the optical coupling efficiency and enable integration with a microfluidic control and rapid detection. The array of pre-fixed antibody modified by Au nanoparticles was used to achieve rapid antigen capture and improve the optical sensitivity. The Au nanoparticle amplification approach was introduced for the SPR detection of a target protein. CRP was used as a model target protein as part of a sandwich assay. The use of Au NP measurements to detect the target signal is a threefold improvement compared to single SPR detection methods.

For sine movable tooth drive, the movable tooth number must be increased to obtain large speed ratio of the drive which increases largely radial size of the drive. Here, a novel two-step movable tooth drive is proposed. The drive can realize small size and large speed ratio simultaneously. For the two-step movable tooth drive, 3D design was done; the forces and the contact stress in the drive system were investigated; results show that the maximum force on the second step drive depends on radius of the movable teeth, size parameters of the second step drive, and radius of the sine ball track in the first step drive; the contact stresses between the meshing elements change periodically, the contact stress between the movable teeth and cap end is the maximum which can be taken as design factor for the load-carrying ability of the drive system.

The authors present a generative adversarial network (GAN) model that demonstrates how to generate 3D models in their native format so that they can be either evaluated using complex simulation environments or realized using methods such as additive manufacturing. Once initially trained, the GAN can create additional training data itself by generating new designs, evaluating them in a physics-based virtual environment, and adding the high performing ones to the training set. A case study involving a GAN model that is initially trained on 4045 3D aircraft models is used for demonstration, where a training data set that has been updated with GAN-generated and evaluated designs results in enhanced model generation, in both the geometric feasibility and performance of the designs. Z-tests on the performance scores of the generated aircraft models indicate a statistically significant improvement in the functionality of the generated models after three iterations of the training-evaluation process. In the case study, a number of techniques are explored to structure the generate-evaluate process in order to balance the need to generate feasible designs with the need for innovative designs.

For the last few decades, nanoscale materials and structures have been extensively studied and developed, making a huge impact on human sustainability. For example, the introduction of nanostructures has brought substantial development in electrocatalysts and optical sensing applications. However, there are still remaining challenges that need to be resolved to further improve their performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. Herein, long-range ordered 3D nanostructures and their design principles are introduced with an emphasis on electrocatalysts for energy conversion and plasmonic nanostructures for optical sensing. Among the various fabrication techniques, sequential solvent-injection-assisted nanotransfer printing is suggested as a practical fabrication platform for tunable long-range ordered 3D nanostructures composed of ultrahigh-resolution building blocks. Furthermore, the importance of understanding and controlling the 3D design parameters is discussed to realize more efficient energy conversion as well as effective surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy analyses, suggesting new solutions for clean energy and healthcare issues.

Within the fashion industry, 3D printing can be used for producing individualized products by 3D printing on textile fabrics. One of the main issues of 3D printed geometries on textile fabrics is the adhesion between both materials. Continuing our previous research, other textile fabrics are used as substrate for 3D printing. Again, washing tests which simulate the real use of the textile fabric for garment production indicate that round shapes and thin objects are uncritical to be washed compared to higher objects and square shapes, which tend to separate after the first or the second washing cycle. For nine textile materials under investigation, no separation was found at all for the first 5 washing cycles for two of them. Finally, a full construction cycle including 2D and 3D design, simulation, 3D printing and garment production is presented.

The Helium Cooled Ceramic Breeder (HCCB) blanket is the critical component of the China Fusion Engineering Test Reactor (CFETR). The radial structural layout of the internal functional zones has the largest impact on the neutronics and thermal-hydraulic performance of the blanket, and it’s also the major determinant for the detailed 3D design. In the previous work, NTCOC, a Neutronics/Thermal-hydraulic Coupling Optimization Code, has been developed for application in the radial structural layout optimization of the CFETR HCCB blanket. However, for increasing the optimization efficiency, the NTCOC employs the simplified 1D neutronics and 2D thermal-hydraulic calculation models, the results of which may differ from the calculation results of the 3D actual models. Therefore, it’s essential to verify the reliability of the simplified models by comparing their calculation results with the corresponding 3D models. In this work, both the 3D neutronics and thermal-hydraulic analyses corresponding to the radial structural optimization processes of the CFETR HCCB blanket are performed and the corresponding calculation results are compared with NTCOC. The results show that adopting the 1D neutronics model in NTCOC can reflect the change tendency of the tritium breeding performance during the radial optimization processes accurately. However, the radial temperature distribution which is calculated by the 3D thermal-hydraulic model is generally higher than the NTCOC results, which means that the direct application of the 2D thermal-hydraulic model in NTCOC is not conservative. For solving this problem, a 3D thermal revision is added to the previous optimization method in the form of feedback. After revision, the 3D calculated temperature of the newly obtained blanket scheme is generally lower than the NTCOC’s, which means that the previous problem has been well solved. This work comprehensively verifies the reliability of the NTCOC and the improved optimization method after the 3D thermal revision for application in the radial structural optimization of the CFETR HCCB blanket.

The present paper deals with the numerical and theoretical investigations of the effect of geometrical dimensions and 1D-design parameters on the impeller pressure slope of a transonic centrifugal compressor stage for industrial process application. A database being generated during the multi-objective and multi-point design process of a high flow coefficient impeller, comprising 545 CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) designs is investigated in off-design and design conditions by means of RANS (Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes) simulation of an impeller with vaneless diffuser. For high flow coefficients of 0.16 < phi < 0.18, the CFD-setup has been validated against measurement data regarding stage and impeller performance taken from MAN test rig experimental data for a centrifugal compressor stage of similar flow coefficient. The paper aims at answering the question how classical design parameter, such as the impeller blade angle distribution, impeller suction diameter and camber line length affect the local and total relative diffusion and pressure slope towards impeller stall operation. A second order analysis of the CFD database is performed by cross-correlating the CFD data with results from impeller two-zone 1D modelling and a rapid loading calculation process by Stanitz and Prian. The statistical covariance of first order 1D-analysis parameters such as the mixing loss of the impeller secondary flow, the slip factor, impeller flow incidence is analyzed, thereby showing strong correlation with the design and off-design point efficiency and pressure slope. Finally, guide lines are derived in order to achieve either optimized design point efficiency or maximum negative pressure slope characteristics towards impeller stall operation.

The 3D model of the lathe tool is established by using the Pro/E of 3D design software, then imported 3D model into the finite element software Workbench, and analyzed its statics using the finite element method, and got the stress figure and strain figure and total deformation figure while the lathe tool undertaking the cutting force, through the analysis it shows that the strength of the lathe tool can meet the processing requirements.

Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHIs) has developed a large-sized nickel–metal hydride (Ni–MH) battery, called the GIGACELL®. The bipolar 3D design of the GIGACELL® reduces the energy loss between single cells, thus allowing a high power and large capacity. KHI has successfully demonstrated the effectiveness of this battery for industrial applications, such as a battery-driven light rail vehicle (LRV), Battery Power System (BPS) for railways, and stabilization of power grids. This new energy-storage device will suppress the occurrence of regenerative failure in a railway and enable the use of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind. Widespread use of this battery will significantly contribute to energy savings in the social-infrastructure.

In this article, using the method of the separation of cars and platform design to pressure balance work over rig, that is a large welded structure. Work platform components adopt link and structural member is h-section steel, in terms of stress at work is more complex. Through the 3D design software to model and to analyze the stress of the several typical working conditions, to verify the rationality of the design of the structure and put forward the improvement opinion. The analysis also can be widely applied in all kinds of integral welded structure.

The design and research of weft insertion mechanism of carbon fiber multi-layer loom which has the great significance for the development of modern 3D weaving equipment. According to the special requirements of carbon fiber multi-layer weaving fabric, a multilayer weft insertion system incidental finding device is designed, which can be satisfied with multi-layer weft insertion according to the change of shedding position and different layers. In order to meet the sword belt and lifting gear running smooth, kinematic and dynamic analysis and static simulation have been done. Analysis results show that institutions satisfy all work requirements, and have important guiding significance for material selection of components.

In this study, the goal is to confirm stresses under kind of loads, with analytical and numerical methods. But each material is drawn in SolidWorks 3D design software, and exported to ANSYS. Also the other purpose is to give information about type of stresses and formulation of each stress with different loads.

One 150 ton converter of an iron and steel group occurred nodded phenomenon in the production process, the dynamic characteristics is poor. Initially be suspected that the converter exist “negative” torque steel. In order to clarify the changes of tilting torque in the steel process. apply Solidworks software ,create 3D model of converter, then determine the Center of gravity position and calculate the tilting torque of the converter with the tilting angle changes. Solidworks software is parameterized 3D design software, can calculate quickly and accurately, has strong analytical processing capabilities. This paper made to calculate provide a simple method of calculation for converter equipment design and maintenance.

Abaqus finite element software can implement three-dimensional excavation design calculation, so authors used Python of Abaqus core language made the 3D design of foundation pit supporting program come ture and also did intensive study of mesh optimization during the process. Authors also did intensive comparison and analysis about grid division of the complex geometry foundation pit, through a regularization partion about a variety of special-shaped pit, we made the automatic division about the structural grid of all kinds of shapes foundation pit successful. On this basis, we achieved better calculation effects of the model. The article will introduce problems about optimization of grid in procedure.

The crux to the 3D design of cavity of injection molds for involute plastic gears is to solve the difficulty in zooming the cavity of molds and the accurate molding of the involute tooth profile. Researches have shown that the shrinkage of involute tooth profile is non-linear during the injection molding process of plastic gears. This paper presents the 3D design of cavity of injection molds for involute gears based on SolidWorks after offering an introduction to the relationship between the cavity tooth profile of injection molds for small-modulus plastic gears and the tooth profile of injection molding part.

This paper introduces the structure and working principle of the eddy current retarder , the design method of the eddy current retarder is proposed: the design of structure parameters including of the rotor windings and the excitation of eddy current retarder are completed, and on this basis 3D design of the eddy current retarder is completed by using UG software.

In this paper, the basic theory of Virtual Design was described and the application of 3D design software SolidWorks 2009 in loader working device was introduced as well. In SolidWorks 2009, Loader working device was taken for example to discuss the process of parametric modeling. Meanwhile, it could be approved from the virtual assembly process of working device that the whole process was fully in line with the assembly process in actual production.

In this paper, the hydraulic press to assemble the coupling is designed after its structure characterisdic and work method is introduced. The press mounting device is used to assemble the coupling of a small generator drived by hydraulic oil. In design, the entity model is established using 3D design software Pro/E, and the dynamic and kinimatic characteristics of the virtual prototype of the hydraulic press are simulated in software ADAMS. Thus all kinds of design defects are deleted at the initial stage of the design, the design period can be shorten, the efficiency of design can be raised, and the best and innovative products can be obtatined.

Using UG/Open Grip technique, the 3D parameter design of the splicing chamber was achieved by a computer program and the parameters could be modified through the interactive operation. This work strengthens the interactive design function of the CAD system and has an important significance for improving the design quality of the splicing chamber.

PurposeThe objective of this paper is to develop geometric algorithms and planning strategies to enable the development of a novel hybrid manufacturing process, which combines rapidly re‐configurable mold tooling and multi‐axis machining.Design/methodology/approachThe presented hybrid process combines advantages of both reconfigurable molding and machining processes. The mold's re‐configurability is based on the concept of using an array of discrete pins. By positioning the pins, the reconfigurable molding process allows forming the mold cavity directly from the object's 3D design model, without any human intervention. After a segment of the part is molded using the reconfigurable molding process, a multi‐axis machining operation is used to create accurate parts with better surface finish. Geometric algorithms are developed to decompose the design model into segments based on the part's moldability and machinability. The decomposed features are used for planning the reconfigurable molding and the multi‐axis machining operations.FindingsComputer implementation and illustrative examples are also presented in this paper. The results showed that the developed algorithms enable the proposed hybrid re‐configurable molding and multi‐axis machining process. The developed decomposition and planning algorithms are used for planning the reconfigurable molding and the multi‐axis machining operations. Owing to the decomposition strategy, more geometrically complex parts can be fabricated using the developed hybrid process.Originality/valueThis paper presents geometric analysis and planning to enable the development of a novel hybrid manufacturing process, which combines rapidly re‐configurable mold tooling and multi‐axis machining. It is expected that the proposed hybrid manufacturing process can produce highly customized parts with better surface finish, and part accuracy, with shorter build times, and reduced setup and tooling costs.

International audience; Two-photon stereolithography is used for rapid prototyping of submicrometre molecularly imprinted polymer-based 3D structures. The structures are evaluated as chemical sensing elements and their specific recognition properties for target molecules are confirmed. The 3D design capability is exploited and highlighted through the fabrication of an all-organic molecularly imprinted polymeric microelectromechanical sensor.

The accurate 3D molding function of Rhinoceros software is used and combined with the fast and realistic render effect of Keyshot, which is the fastest and the most effective three dimensional design software in the area of current ceramic moldingdesign. The paper is mainly explored the application of the Rhinoceros software in constructing ceramic molding with the example of some ceramic. It will describe the molding design to shorten thedevelopment cycle of product to improve the design efficiency.

In the study, the development of aerial platform truck of 42m boom system has been completed to be satisfied with working in much higher place. To avoid the rollover accident of vehicles while working, 3D FEA is applied to verify the 3D design, stress concentration, stress distribution, deflection, natural frequencies etc. In these analyses, traction load of Boom System, 700 Kg and traction degree analyzed to 0° ~ 85°. Analysis result, when Boom System's angle is 0°, could know that stress concentration and deflection are obtained to maximum. We could predict that maximum point of Stress concentration is 3.275 as safety factor and deflection of Boom system end part is max. 78.5Cm. Also could know that natural frequency and mode shape of boom system are stable in correlation with aerial platform truck's operation area. With these results, the structural stability of boom system in 42m aerial platform truck is obtained, then finally trying to find an optimum design of aerial platform truck.

Recently, cryogenic butterfly valves for LNG carriers are actively developed by ship equipment companies. The dual core structure unlike usual butterfly valve has both translation and gyration motions of the disk of the valve assembly. Especially, the ship equipment companies can not have overcome 2D design method; in addition, even though 2 years of development has passed, the drawing cannot be secured. In this research, for the cryogenic butterfly valves and the product design, 3D design method was introduced and DMU(Digital Mockup) was applied to complement the problems in 2D design and investigate application possibility of 3D design method.

A mathematical model to describe the principle of layered manufacturing and layered fabrication error is presented in this paper. In this model, the layered manufacturing process is characterized by the model decomposition and material accumulation. A 3D design model is represented by a set of points with sequence functions to correlate the layered processing information. Iso‐sequence planes are defined as the processing layers to collect points with the same processing sequence and to define the material accumulation along its gradient direction. Examples of using the proposed model to describe the layered manufacturing to process flat and no‐flat surfaces and the description of the layered processing error are also presented.

In the aerospace industry, Saab Aerostructure's work with the development of the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner was an opportunity to extend the capabilities of 3D design simulation for the assembly of the aircraft's doors. We have developed and manufactured seven doors and hatches for the 787, primarily cargo doors. We had been using Delmia tools for several years, and we also conducted our own research. We decided to take the use of 3D design simulation all the way to the manufacturing shopfloor. Saab went from 2D to 3D because we wanted to move towards a complete integration of product data between ourselves and the client, in the process implementing new enterprise resource planning systems. We started to do our first trials with 3D assembly simulation in 1996. The following year we moved on to digital mock-up (DMU), and in 1999 we developed assembly simulation work instructions.

Roughing and cementing are very essential to the process of bonding shoe uppers and the corresponding soles; however, for shoes with complicated design, such as sport shoes, roughing and cementing greatly relied on manual operation. Recently, shoe industry is progressing to 3D design, thus 3D model of the shoe upper and sole will be created before launching into mass production. Taking advantage of the 3D model, this study developed a plug-in program on Rhino 3D CAD platform, which realized the complicated roughing and cementing route planning to be performed by the plug-in program, integrated with real-time 3D scanning information to compensate the planned route, and then converted to working trajectory of robot arm to implement roughing and cementing. The proposed 3D CAD-based intelligent robot arm system integrated with 3D scanning for shoe roughing and cementing is realized and proved to be feasible.

The results of investigating multifunctional 3D knitted materials dedicated for protective clothing were presented. The 3D design structures were made on a circular knitting machine using yarns with flame retardant or electrostatic properties. The functionality imparted to each of the assortments developed was verified during the tests in accredited laboratories as well as by assessing their biophysical properties. Based on the analysis of the test results, a beneficial effect of the raw materials and the 3D structure of knitted fabrics were demonstrated. Designed garments could be useful as individual protection clothing for workers exposed to harmful occupational environment factors, such as heat and static electricity. The study was conducted within the project EUREKA E! 5799 BATAN "Multifunctional knitted fabrics with barrier properties for clothing".

ACB-CP (Auxiliary Cold Box for Cryopumps) is used to supply the cryopumps system with necessary cryogen in ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) cryogenic distribution system. The conceptual design of ACB-CP contains thermo-hydraulic analysis, 3D structure design and strength checking. Through the thermohydraulic analysis, the main specifications of process valves, pressure safety valves, pipes, heat exchangers can be decided. During the 3D structure design process, vacuum requirement, adiabatic requirement, assembly constraints and maintenance requirement have been considered to arrange the pipes, valves and other components. The strength checking has been performed to crosscheck if the 3D design meets the strength requirements for the ACB-CP.

In this paper, a scissors lift platform is designed which with a wide range, the main platform, lift mechanism and the bottom. When lifting from low to high, the scissors posts, and the hydraulic cylinder layout multiple, mobile way will be changed. The scissors post number and cylinder layout depend on the lifting height needed. This paper is about a design based 3D software Pro/E with 8m high scissors lift platform, which gives a entire platform dimension with 1800 × 900mm2. A rated load of features so that the whole platform can be set up by two pairs of scissors refers to like products. The platform is designed to be folded away doors, to save more space for convenient storage. Lift platform uses a hydraulic driver, which runs smoothly, stably, and accuracy factors relative to high.

The objective of this work was to develop a new design of a high performance intake manifold through a combination of CAD and FEM. First a FEA model was done, which included a complete thermal and structural analysis of the new intake manifold and the contact area between the aluminum coupling, using the combined tools of CATIA, ANSYS WORKBENCH, MATHCAD. Then several composite prototypes were made where analyzed.

This chapter discusses various implications of the 3D integration technology on the design methodologies, flows, and associated tools. The experiences from the advanced 2D technologies are extrapolated and combined with the incremental challenges posed by the 3D technologies, and the requirements for design ecosystem for 3D technologies are precipitated. The chapter is organized in five sections. In the first section, we define the overall requirements for the 3D design ecosystem, and we identify the need for two incremental design methodologies, in addition to the traditional design authoring flow. The second section describes one of the incremental design methodologies – named PathFinding, and the third section discusses the other methodology – named TechTuning. In section four we present practical application of the proposed design methodology and associated tool chain. Section 5 gives a brief summary and few concluding remarks.

We have studied concerning the design technique of ankle-foot orthosis (AFO) that is used spastic hemiplegia of the stroke. We developed the equipment for measurement in order to measure the influence which it causes to spasticity gait. The ankle joint moments are calculated by the measurement data. In addition, you appraised of gait lability as the scatter plot by the angle and the moment of ankle joint in heel contact. These appraisal results were made the element which selects the orthosis. The design of the orthosis was utilized three dimensional cad, and the structural of the orthosis was analyzed the non-linear finite element analysis by the boundary condition which utilizes the measurement data. In this study, the life prediction of the orthosis which deals with 2 orthosis users was made help of the design factor. In order to investigate the life cycle of the orthosis user, the number of steps and living conditions were investigated. As for material definition S-N curve of the PP material was used. The result of fatigue analysis, it was suggested that fatigue analysis of the orthosis is effective as the help in orthosis designing.
