This paper takes an asymmetric support ball bearing-rotor system subjected by unbalanced force and parametric excitation (varying compliance) as the research object. Multi-modes of resonance such as natural frequency resonance region of each order, VC (varying compliance) frequency resonance region, the 1/2 sub-harmonic VC frequency resonance region, and quasi-periodic regions, and the nonlinear characteristics in these regions are analyzed. Besides, the effect of the number of balls of the ball bearing is also considered and the result shows that the parity of this parameter matters a lot. By introducing a definition of the absolute quasi-periodic frequency, the law of the occurrence of the quasi-periodic motion is demonstrated and the possible cause is given to some extent. The work provides a theoretical basis for clarifying the nonlinear characteristics of the bearing-rotor system and suppressing the nonlinear behavior of the system.

In this paper, the dynamical simulation of a nonlinear aircraft rotor system in Herbst maneuvering flight is carried out, though which the load control is discussed for safety purposes. The equations of motion of the system are set up by using Lagrange’s equation, in which, the effects of maneuvering flight are formulated by the flight parameters of the aircraft. By employing the method of closest unstable equilibrium point, the stability of periodic solutions for the primary resonance of the system in steady flight is analyzed to demonstrate the existence of double steady solutions in some rotation speed region near the critical speed and the possibility of the switch of them due to the effect of maneuvering flight. By introducing the Herbst flight parameters from the results of a relative control simulation, the dynamical simulation of the system is carried out, from which the switch of the smaller solution of amplitude to the larger solution is observed. Furthermore, the load control is designed by adding a gain λ to the Herbst flight parameters to avoid the switch. Through numerical experiments, it is found that λ = 0.679 is the critical condition of the switch. The results in this paper will provide a better understanding for the effect of aircraft maneuvering flight on the dynamics of the rotor system.

The complicated dynamical behavior of a flexible rotor-bearing system is studied in this paper. The unsteady oil-film force model described by three functions is considered. The bifurcation and chaos behaviors were revealed by calculating the maximum Lyapunov exponent of the system. Two new phenomena were found in this system: first, the chaos with two attracting areas which cannot be distinguished from the stable period doubling motion on Poincare section; second, for the flexible rotor system with two unbalanced disks, the response varies in a large extent when the phase angle between the eccentricities of disks is different. The experiments were also carried out. Comparison between experimental and calculated results shows that the significant use of the max Lyapunov exponent in revealing the bifurcation and chaos characteristics of the rotor-bearing system.

The lock-in periodic solutions of the Stuart-Landau equation with a periodic excitation are studied. Using singularity theory, the bifurcation behavior of these solutions with respect to the excitation amplitude and frequency are investigated in detail, respectively. The results show that the universal unfolding with respect to the excitation amplitude possesses codimension 3. The transition sets in unfolding parameter plane and the bifurcation diagrams are plotted under some conditions. Additionally, it has also been proved that the bifurcation problem with respect to frequence possesses infinite codimension. Therefore the dynamical bifurcation behavior is very complex in this case. Some new dynamical phenomena are presented, which are the supplement of the results obtained by Sun Liang et al.

Both the primary resonant solutions and their bifurcations due to time delayed velocity feedbacks used in a self-sustained oscillator with excitation were further investigated. A model was proposed by adding linear and nonlinear time delayed feedbacks to a representative non-autonomous system (with external forcing). The stability condition of the linearized system at trivial equilibrium was discussed, which leads to a critical stability boundary where periodic solutions may occur. The main attention was focused on bifurcations from the primary resonant solutions. It is found that the stable primary resonant solution may appear periodically in the time delay. Meanwhile, the unstable regions for such solutions are also obtained, predicting the occurrence of quasi-periodic motions.

The topological bifurcation diagrams and the coefficients of bifurcation equation were obtained by C-L method.According to obtained bifurcation diagrams and combining control theory,the method of robust control of periodic bifurcation was presented,which differs from generic methods of bifurcation control.It can make the existing motion pattern into the goal motion pattern.Because the method does not make strict requirement about parametric values of the controller,it is convenient to design and make it.Numerical simulations verify validity of the method.

The method of multiple scales is used to construct non-linear normal modes (NNMs) of a class of systems with three double of pure imaginary roots and 1:2:5 dual internal resonance. It is found that the three NNMs associated with dual internal resonances include two uncoupled NNMs as well as a coupled NNM. And the bifurcation problem of the coupled NNM is in two variables, which is greatly different from the bifurcation of the NNMs of systems with single internal resonance. Because no results in singularities can be straightly applied, a practical way is proposed to do singularity analysis for bifurcation of two dimensions. It is also noted that with the variation of the bifurcation parameters, the modes may convert to each other or suddenly emerge and disappear, which give rise to the number of the NNMs more or fewer than the number of the degrees of freedom.

The bifurcation of a shaft with hysteretic internal friction of material was analysed. Firstly, the differential motion equation in complex form was deduced using Hamilton principle. Then averaged equations in primary resonances were obtained using the averaging method. The stability of steady-state responses was also determined. Lastly, the bifurcations of both normal motion (synchronous whirl) and self-excited motion (nonsynchronous whirl) were investigated using the method of singularity. The study shows that by a rather large disturbance, the stability of the shaft can be lost through Hopf bifurcation in case the stability condition is not satisfied. The averaged self-excited response appears as a type of unsymmetrical bifurcation with high orders of co-dimension. The second Hopf bifurcation, which corresponds to double amplitude-modulated response, can occur as the speed of the shaft increases. Balancing the shaft carefully to decrease its unbalance level and increasing the external damping are two effective methods to avoid the appearance of the self-sustained whirl induced by the hysteretic internal friction of material.

The safety margin criterion of nonlinear dynamic question of an elastic rotor system are given. A series of observing spaces were separated from integral space by resolving and polymerizing method. The stable-state trajectory of high dimensional nonlinear dynamic systems was got within integral space. According to international standard of rotor system vibration, energy limits of safety criterion were determined. The safety margin was calculated within a series of observing spaces by comparative positive-area criterion (CPAC) method. A quantitative example calculating safety margin for unbalance elastic rotor system was given by CPAC. The safety margin criterion proposed includes the calculation of current stability margin in engineering. This criterion is an effective method to solve quantitative calculation question of safety margin and stability margin for nonlinear dynamic systems.

The stability degree of periodic solution of nonlinear nonautonomous system was defined by means of the Floquet theory. A method evaluating the stability degree of periodic solution based on transient response was presented by the aid of the concept of dynamic systems or flows. The critical value of a system was determined by the condition, i. e., its stability degree equals zero. Stable regions of rotor systems with balanced and unbalanced disk supported on lubricated bearings were calculated. The study shows that stable region decreases with the increase of speed for a balanced rotor system and decreases with the increase of unbalance for an unbalanced rotor system. Stable regions of periodic solutions are less than that of equilibrium points under the same systematic conditions.

The nonlinear normal modes (NNMs) associated with integrnal resonance can be classified into two kinds: uncoupled and coupled. The bifurcation problem of the coupled NNM of systems with 1∶2∶5 dual internal resonance is in two variables. The singular analysis of it is presented after separating the two variables by taking advantage of Maple algebra, and some new bifurcation paterns are found. Different from the NNMs of systems with single internal resonance, the number of the NNMs of systems with dual internal resonance may be more or less than the number of the degress of freedom. At last, it is pointed out that bifurcation problems in two variables can be conveniently solved by separating variables as well as using coupling equations.

Bifurcation of periodic solutions widely existed in nonlinear dynamical systems is a kind of constrained one in intrinsic quality because its amplitude is always non-negative. Classification of the bifurcations with the type of constraint was discussed. All its six types of transition sets are derived, in which three types are newly found and a method is proposed for analyzing the constrained bifurcation.

The 1/2 subharmonic resonance bifurcation and universal unfolding are studied for a rotating shaft with unsymmetrical stiffness. The bifurcation behavior of the response amplitude with respect to the detuning parameter was studied for this class of problems by Xiao et al. Obviously, it is highly important to research the bifurcation behavior of the response amplitude with respect to the unsymmetry of stiffness for this problem. Here, by means of the singularity theory, the bifurcation and universal unfolding of amplitude with respect to the unsymmetrical stiffness parameter are discussed. The results indicate that it is a high codimensional bifurcation problem with codimension 5, and the universal unfolding is given. From the mechanical background, we study four forms of two parameter unfoldings contained in the universal unfolding. The transition sets in the parameter plane and the bifurcation diagrams are plotted. The results obtained in this paper show rich bifurcation phenomena and provide some guidance for the analysis and design of dynamic buckling experiments of this class of system, especially, for the choice of system parameters.

The inverse problem for a class of nonlinear evolution equations of dispersive type was reduced to Cauchy problem of nonlinear evolution equation in an abstract space. By means of the semigroup method and equipping equivalent norm technique, the existence and uniqueness theorem of global solution was obtained for this class of abstract evolution equations, and was applied to the inverse problem discussed here. The existence and uniqueness theorem of global solution was given for this class of nonlinear evolution equations of dispersive type. The results extend and generalize essentially the related results of the existence and uniqueness of local solution presented by YUAN Zhong-xin.

This paper puts forward a complex inner product averaging method for calculating normal form of ODE. Compared with conventional averaging method, the theoretic analytical process has such simple forms as to realize computer program easily. Results can be applied in both autonomous and non-autonomous systems. At last, an example is resolved to verify the method.

Combining theoretical and experimental modal analyses on selfexcited vibration induced by dry friction between two elastic structures, we can explain the high-order sell-excited vibration phenomenon in which water droplets spurt from fourteen or twelve areas of the Chinese culture relic dragon washbasin when it is rubbed with hands, and clarify the mechanism of the singular high-order selfexcited vibration. The experimental modes and the practical measured results are presented for a special dragon washbasin. The theoretical results agree well with the experimental ones.

Bifurcations with constraints are open problems appeared in research on periodic bifurcations of nonlinear dynamical systems, but the present singularity theory doesn’t contain any analytical methods and results about it. As the complement to singularity theory and the first step to study on constrained bifurcations, here are given the transition sets and persistent perturbed bifurcation diagrams of 10 elementary bifurcation of codimension no more than three.

The1:2 internal resonance of coupled dynamic system with quadratic and cubic nonlinearities is studied. The normal forms of this system in1:2 internal resonance were derived by using the direct method of normal form. In the normal forms, quadratic and cubic nonlinearities were remained. Based on a new convenient transformation technique, the4-dimension bifurcation equations were reduced to3-dimension. A bifurcation equation with one-dimension was obtained. Then the bifurcation behaviors of a universal unfolding were studied by using the singularity theory. The method of this paper can be applied to analyze the bifurcation behavior in strong internal resonance on4-dimension center manifolds.

The existence of solutions for systems of nonlinear impulsive Volterra integral equations on the infinite interval R+ with an infinite number of moments of impulse effect in Banach spaces is studied. Some existence theorems of extremal solutions are obtained, which extend the related results for this class of equations on a finite interval with a finite number of moments of impulse effect. The results are demonstrated by means of an example of an infinite systems for impulsive integral equations.

The C-L method was generalized from Liapunov-Schmidt reduction method, combined with theory of singularities, for study of non-autonomous dynamical systems to obtain the typical bifurcating response curves in the system parameter spaces. This method has been used, as an example, to analyze the engineering nonlinear dynamical problems by obtaining the bifurcation programs and response curves which are useful in developing techniques of control to subharmonic instability of large rotating machinery.

Using the monotone iterative method and Monch fixed point theorem, the existence of solutions and coupled minimal and maximal quasisolutions of initial value problems for mixed monotone second-order integro-differential equations in Banach spaces are studied. Some existence theorems of solutions and coupled minimal and maximal quasisolutions are obtained.

By employing the normal form theory, the Hopf bifurcation and the transition boundary of an autonomous double pendulum with 1:1 internal resonance at the critical point is studied. The results are compared with numerical solutions. Further, by numerical methods, the road to chaos of a non-autonomous system is presented in the end.

The existence of solutions for nonlinear impulsive Hammerstein integral equations with infinite numbers of moments of impulse effect on the infinite intervalR + in Banach spaces is studied. By means of Monch fixed point theorem, an existence theorem of solutions is obtained. The result is demonstrated by means of an infinite system for impulsive integral equations.

The nonlinear response of a two-degree-of-freedom nonlinear oscillating system to parametric excitation is examined for the case of 1∶2 internal resonance and, principal parametric resonance with respect to the lower mode. The method of multiple scales is used to derive four first-order autonomous ordinary differential equations for the modulation of the amplitudes and phases. The steadystate solutions of the modulated equations and their stability are investigated. The trivial solutions lose their stability through pitchfork bifurcation giving rise to coupled mode solutions. The Melnikov method is used to study the global bifurcation behavior, the critical parameter is determined at which the dynamical system possesses a Smale horseshoe type of chaos.

Certain deterministic nonlinear systems may show chaotic behavior. We consider the motion of qualitative information and the practicalities of extracting a part from chaotic experimental data. Our approach based on a theorem of Takens draws on the ideas from the generalized theory of information known as singular system analysis. We illustrate this technique by numerical data from the chaotic region of the chaotic experimental data. The method of the singular-value decomposition is used to calculate the eigenvalues of embedding space matrix. The corresponding concrete algorithm to calculate eigenvectors and to obtain the basis of embedding vector space is proposed in this paper. The projection on the orthogonal basis generated by eigenvectors of timeseries data and concrete paradigm are also provided here. Meanwhile the state space reconstruction technology of different kinds of chaotic data obtained from dynamical system has also been discussed in detail.

In this paper the influence of the differently distributed phase-randomized to the data obtained in dynamic analysis for critical value is studied. The calculation results validate that the sufficient phase-randomized of the different distributed random numbers are less influential on the critical value. This offers the theoretical foundation of the feasibility and practicality of the phase-randomized method.

The bifurcation dynamics of shallow arch which possesses initial deflection under periodic excitation for the case of 1∶2 internal resonance is studied in this paper. The whole parametric plane is divided into several different regions according to the types of motions; then the distribution of steady state motions of shallow arch on the plane of physical parameters is obtained. Combining with numerical method, the dynamics of the system in different regions, especially in the Hopf bifurcation region, is studied in detail. The rule of the mode interaction and the route to chaos of the system is also analysed at the end.

In this paper surrogate data method of phase-randomized is proposed to identify the random or chaotic nature of the data obtained in dynamic analysis. The calculating results validate the phase-randomized method to be useful as it can increase the extent of accuracy of the results. And the calculating results show that threshold values of the random timeseries and nonlinear chaotic timeseries have marked difference.

By introducing nonlinear freqyency, using Floquet theory and referring to the characteristics of the solution when it passes through the transition boundaries, all kinds of bifurcation modes and their transition boundaries of Duffing equation with two periodic excitations as well as the possible ways to chaos are studied in this paper.

Normal form theory is a very effective method when we study degenerate bifurcations of nonlinear dynamical systems. In this paper by using adjoint operator method, normal forms of order 3 and 4 for nonlinear dynamical system with nilpotent linear part and Z2-asymmetry are computed. According to normal forms obtained, universal unfoldings for some degenerate bifurcation cases of codimension 3 and simple global characterizations, are studied.

On the basis of the method proposed in [1], the paper gives the method for finding the normal form of nonsemi-simple bifurcation problems. As an example, it analyses the normal form of a general nonlinear dynamical system with the nonsemi-simple double zero eigenvalues, and gives out the expression for the coefficients in the normal form by using those in the original system.

By using coordinate and nearly identical transformations, the strongly nonlinear Duffing system is reduced to normal form in this paper, and then the bifurcation equations with different resonant conditions and their solutions are obtained. The local bifurcation diagrams and the transition sets on unfolding parameter and physical parameter plane are analysized by singularity theory.

The nonlinear vibration theory and the experimental modal analysis are used in this paper to study the self-excited vibration of the shell-liquid coupled system induced by dry friction. The effect of dry friction stick-slip coefficients and rubbing velocity on self-excited vibration, and the limit cycle and Hopf bifurcation solution of the system are obtained. In particular, it is shown that the phenomenon of 4 point (or 6 point) water droplet spurting of the Chinese cultural relic Dragon Washbasin is the result of the perfect combination of the self-excited vibration induced by dry friction and its special modes, which indicates the significant scientific value of the Chinese cultural relic Dragon Washbasin.

Semi-analytical and semi-numerical method is used to investigate the global bifurcations and chaos in the nonlinear system of a Van der Pol-Duffing-Mathieu oscillator. Semi-analytical and semi-numerical method means that the autonomous system, called Van der Pol-Duffing system, is analytically studied to draw all global bifurcations diagrams in parameter space. These diagrams are called basic bifurcation diagrams. Then fixing parameter in every space and taking parametrically excited amplitude as a bifurcation parameter, we can observe the evolution from a basic bifurcation diagram to chaotic pattern by numerical methods.

A method is proposed for calculating the normal form coefficients of the degenerate Hopf bifurcation system and the steady periodic solutions of a nonlinear vibration system. The results obtained by this method are the same as those obtained by the classical one. The present method is much simpler and can easily be implemented: that is, given the coefficients of the governing equations, the response is obtained directly by substitution.

A class of bifurcation solutions of almost-periodic (a. p. for short) parametric vibration systems is studied by Liapunov-Schmidt reduction. The bifurcation diagrams and formulas are given.

The authors of [1] discussed the subharmonic resonance bifurcation theory of nonlinear Mathieu equation and obtained six bifurcation diagrams in (α,β) -plane. In this paper, we extended the results of [1] and pointed out that there may exist as many as fourteen bifurcation diagrams which are not topologically equivalent to each other.

The dynamical principle of fault diagnosis is addressed,and the initial concept of nonlinear dynamical principle of mechanical fault diagnosis is introduced.The mechanical devices can be divided into two classes of systems,namely:possible-of-modeling systems and impossible-of-mo-deling systems.For possible-of-modeling systems,the analysis of fault mechanism based on the bifurcation theory may provide an instruction to mechanism,control and prediction of vibrating faults which are difficult to diagnose.The modeling method is described using the rotating machinery as an example.For impossible-of-modeling systems,using the chaotic dynamical theory,the phase space can be reconstructed in terms of the measuring vibration data,and the sources of generating faults can be justified through the form of singular spectrum which describes the energy distribution of the system.The studies on the nonlinear dynamical principle of fault diagnosis may significantly enhance the ability of our manufacturing industry of complicated devices and also make great contribution to the nonlinear dynamical theory.

In the present paper subharmonic resonance solution of a piecewise linear oscillator with two degrees of freedom is studied. It is shown that in this system there exist a series of subharmonic resonance solutions, among them there are 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/5, 1/6 ... ... subharmonic resonance solutions. The calculated results by the analogy computer and the field experiments in the factory partly verify this theory. Under certain circumstances, the generation of chaotic states of the oscillation is observed in analogy computer solutions.

A new approach is presented in this paper on the basis of dynamic systems theory. This paper presents the form of a generic classification of stable response diagrams for the nonlinear Mathieu equation. In addition, a general method is presented for determining the topological type of the response diagram for a given equation. This method has been successfully applied to Euler dynamic buckling problems. Some new results are obtained.
