Abstract: The overwhelming globalburden of cancer has posed numerous challenges and opportunities for developing anti-cancer therapies. Phytochemicalshave emerged as promising synergistic compounds with potential anti-cancer effects to supplement chemo- and immune-therapeutic regimens. Anti cancer synergistic effects have been investigated in the interaction between phytocompounds derived from flavonoids such as quercetin, apigenin, kaempferol, hesperidin, emodin etc., and conventional drugs. Xanthohumol is one of the prenylatedphytoflavonoid that has demonstrated key anti-cancer activities in in vitro (anti proliferation of cancer cell lines) and in vivo(animal models of xenograft tumours)studies, and has been explored from different dimensions for targeting cancer subtypes. In the last decade, xanthohumol has been investigated how it induces the anti-cancer effects at cellular and molecular level.The different signalling cascades and targets of xanthohumolare summarized in thisreview.Overall, this reviewsummarizes the current advances made in the field of natural compounds with special reference to xanthohumol and its promising anti-cancer effectsto inhibit tumour progression.The present review hasalso touched upon the potential of xanthohumol transitioning into a lead candidate from nano-therapy viewpoint along with the challenges which need to be addressed for extensive pre-clinical and clinical anti-cancer studies.

In recent years the role of the specialist nurse with respect to gynecology and women’s health has gained significant importance. The advancement in the nursing practice has provided an insight to interact with patients to explore their history. Such hysteroscopy procedures may not only give a better feel to the patient but also explore the need for doctor treatment. The review updates about the ongoing advances in the field of nursing science to upgrade the life of patients with gynecological diseases. Evidence has suggested the promising role of nurses to motivate patients with improved health after the treatment. The present review will cover the various health issues of women including menstrual dysfunction, fertility, and management of pregnancy’s termination, uro-gynecological issues, and gyne-oncology, etc. The role of nurses during the above health issue will be discussed via various procedures. Therefore, the present review will conclude the significant importance of nurses in women’s health issues to sustain happiness and to strengthen the need to bring advances in the curriculum of nurses to full fill the requirement of medical staff.

Purpose of Review The widespread respiratory disease of virus known as severe acute respiratory syndrome–coronavirus 2019 (SAR-CoV-2) had infected more than 200 countries and caused pandemic and havoc in the world. Recent Findings The genome of the virus was sequenced rapidly to study its mechanism, epidemiology, drugs, and vaccines. Many drugs and vaccines are being studied by researchers to treat and prevent the SARS-CoV-2. Favipiravir and dexamethasone are repurposed drugs which showed therapeutic potential and pharmaceutical efficacy against SARS-CoV-2. Summary The review describes the path of favipiravir and dexamethasone from chemistry to mechanisms of action to combat SARS-CoV-2. In addition, the potential side effects are also summarized to study their potential to control corona virus 2019.

Background Honey is being used in Complementary and Alternative Medicine, especially in Indian Ayurvedic Medicine, as an adjuvant and supplement in diabetes mellitus treatment since immemorial times. In recent times, the use of honey has experienced a renewed interest in the context of diabetes treatment because of the rise in the accessibility of evidence-based pharmacological and clinical findings, signifying its health benefits. Scope and approach There are differential opinions regarding the traditional use of honey in diabetes mellitus. The present review highlights various research propositions, hoisted issues, and misconceptions regarding the effects of honey in diabetes management and presents current challenges and future perspectives. A comprehensive critical review was performed by probing the traditional antidiabetic claims of honey, considering published reports in online databases. Key findings and conclusions A total of 20 pre-clinical and 25 clinical studies investigated the antidiabetic effect of honey. Though in vivo studies are still limited, the findings reinforce the multi-targeted antidiabetic effect of honey, exerting antioxidant, nutritional, antihyperglycemic, immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, wound-healing, antihypertensive, hypolipidemic, and hypoglycaemic activities. Preclinical and clinical evidence suggests that honey may possess multi-faceted and adjunct effects to accomplish a better glycaemic control, ameliorate several metabolic derangements, and mitigate oxidative stress-evoked diabetic problems. Nevertheless, the findings remain inconclusive due to poor study designs and other limitations (e.g. short duration, few participants, the difference in type of study participants, varied honey sources, and administered doses). Overall, there is a significant gap in knowledge, and hence, carefully planned, detailed in vitro, in vivo, and clinical studies are warranted to reach better conclusions.

Breast cancer is the second most common cause of deaths reported in women worldwide, and therefore there is a need to identify breast cancer patients at an early stage as timely diagnosis would help in effective management and appropriate monitoring of patients. Nevertheless, it is challenging to achieve these goals due to the lack of a specific biomarker for early detection and monitoring in breast cancer. Recently, microRNAs (miRNAs) have emerged as master regulators of the molecular pathways highlighted in different tumors leading to progression in malignancies. With the rapid advancements in molecular research, the potential to use miRNAs as prognostic and diagnostic biomarkers in breast cancer has been highlighted, as their dysregulation is directly associated with breast cancer progression and metastasis. The ease of detection and long-term stability of circulating miRNAs in blood makes them a promising candidate for non-invasive breast cancer biomarkers.

Hesperidin belongs to flavanones class of flavonoids and is known to possess broad-spectrum applicability to prevent dreadful diseases such as cardiovascular disease, neurodegeneration, and cancer. The reported anticancer effects of hesperidin have been found to be associated with its anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. Hesperidin interacts with numerous recognized cellular targets and inhibits cancer cell proliferation by inducing apoptosis and cell cycle arrest. In addition, evidence has suggested its promising role in inhibiting tumor cell metastasis, angiogenesis, and chemoresistance. The present mini-review highlights the ongoing development to identify hesperidin targets in cancer. Furthermore, the potential of nano technology-based hesperidin combinations and delivery systems will also be discussed. Overall, this review highlights all the possible molecular targets affected by hesperidin in tumor cells on a single platform. Impact statement Experimental findings from numerous studies have demonstrated the anticancer effects of hesperidin (Hesp) to be associated with anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory activities along with its potential role in inhibiting the tumor cell metastasis and angiogenesis. Additionally, Hesp can also reverse drug resistance of cancer cells, which make it a promising candidate to be used in combination with existing anti-cancer drugs. This review will be helpful for upcoming researchers and scientific community to find out complete capsular package about cancer drug targets of Hesp and its role in modulating various important hallmarks of cancer.

Staphylococcus aureus is recognized as greatest concern associated with both hospital and community acquired infections and if it is methicillin resistant then the severity increases. Erythromycin and clindamycin are considered as treatment of decision. However, protection from erythromycin with phony susceptibility to clindamycin in vitro may prompt remedial disappointment. Hence it is mandatory to study the prevalence of inducible clindamycin resistance. Out of the 875 clinical isolated samples, 403 (46.05%) showed presence of S. aureus. Out of theses 403 samples, 297 (73.70%) were found to be methicillin resistant S. aureus (MRSA) and 106 (26.30 %) were found to be methicillin sensitive S. aureus (MSSA). Further MRSA (Methicillin Resistant S. aureus) samples were analyzed for erythromycin and clindamycin sensitivity and resistivity. Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of clindamycin among D test (Disc test) positive MRSA was also analyzed. The occurrence rate of D test positive MRSA strain was found to be more in Hospital Acquired Infections (HAI) as compared with Community Acquired Infection (CAI). Frequency of D test positive MRSA strains were more in Pus samples as compared with urine and blood samples. Further in case of HAI, D test positive MRSA was predominantly found in patients with Diabetic foot patients with postoperative wound and patients with Necrotizing Fasciitis. Out of samples associated with uropathogenic infection in hospital settings, More D test positive MRSA were found to be associated in patients with catheter installation in without catheter installation. Prolonged hospital stay (>5 days) was observed to be major risk factor for D test positive MRSA. Demographic profile of patients with D test positive MRSA strains revealed the predominance of male in comparison to female.

Background Among the various phenolics metabolites, ferulic acid is considered as the promising mitigating, restorative and antioxidant agent. Ferulic acid is one of the most commonly found natural products in vegetables, for example, tomatoes, sweet corn, and in rice grain. Phytochemicals are utilized in the treatment of human ailments and these are derived from the dietary compounds. Objective The present review widely argued the calming restorative capability of ferulic acid alongside the scientific evidences and its proposed mechanism for activity. Furthermore, we provided the main practical points for the use of ferulic acid in oxidative damages during various diseases. Additionally, the relevant patents on ferulic acid with various therapeutic potential has been discussed. Methods The approach consisted of searching several resources, including theses, technical reports, web-based scientific databases such as publications on PubMed, ScienceDirect, Springer, PROTA, Google Scholar, and other allied databases. Thus, recent patent regarding the role of ferulic acid therapeutic potenitial has been discussed. Results One hundred and twenty references have been cited in the present review article. The cited references were found to be suitable and described the therapeutic application of ferulic acid thoroughly. Conclusion Ferulic acids are known to contrarily down-manage an assortment of extracellular and intrcelullular molecular targets related to infection movement. Various patents on ferulic acid based moieties have been accounted for from 2018. The ferulic acids have a wide scope of impacts against different infections like malignant growth, diabetes, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases. The current review deals with the antioxidant property of ferulic acid and the recent patent describes the role of ferulic acid against human diseases.

Curdlan is an exopolysaccharide, which is composed of glucose linked with β-(1,3)-glycosidic bond and is produced by bacteria, such as Alcaligenes spp., Agrobacterium spp., Paenibacillus spp., Rhizobium spp., Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Candida spp., and fungal sources like Aureobasidium pullulan, Poria cocos, etc. Curdlan has been utilized in the food and pharmaceutical industries for its prebiotic, viscosifying, and water-holding properties for decades. Recently, the usefulness of curdlan has been further explored by the pharmaceutical industry for its potential therapeutic applications. Curdlan has exhibited immunoregulatory and antitumor activity in preclinical settings. It was observed that curdlan can prevent the proliferation of malarial merozoites in vivo; therefore, it may be considered as a promising therapy for the treatment of end-stage malaria. In addition, curdlan has demonstrated potent antiviral effects against human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and Aedes aegypti virus. It has been suggested that the virucidal properties of curdlans should be extended further for other deadly viruses, such as severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS), and the current severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19). The prebiotic property of curdlan would confer beneficial effects on the host by promoting the growth of healthy microbiota in the gut and consequently help to reduce gastrointestinal disorders. Therefore, curdlan can be employed in the manufacture of prebiotics for the management of various gastrointestinal dysbiosis problems. Studies on the mechanism of action of curdlan-induced suppression in microbial and tumor cells at the cellular and molecular levels would not only enhance our understanding regarding the therapeutic effectiveness of curdlan but also help in the discovery of new drugs and dietary supplements. The primary focus of this review is to highlight the therapeutic interventions of curdlan as an anticancer, anti-malaria, antiviral, and antibacterial agent in humans. In addition, our review provides the latest information about the chemistry and biosynthesis of curdlan and its applications for making novel dairy products, functional foods, and nutraceuticals and also details about the recent patents of curdlan and its derivatives.

Notch signaling, an evolutionarily conserved signaling cascade, is critical for normal biological processes of cell differentiation, development, and homeostasis. Deregulation of the Notch signaling pathway has been associated with tumor progression. Thus, Notch presents as an interesting target for a variety of cancer subtypes and its signaling mechanisms have been actively explored from the therapeutic viewpoint. However, besides acting as an oncogene, Notch pathway can possess also tumor suppressive functions, being implicated in inhibition of cancer development. Given such interesting dual and dynamic role of Notch, in this review, we discuss how the evolutionarily conserved Notch signaling pathway drives hallmarks of tumor progression and how it could be targeted for a promising treatment and management of cancer. In addition, the up-to-date information on the inhibitors currently under clinical trials for Notch targets is presented along with how NOTCH inhibitors can be used in conjunction with established chemotherapy/radiotherapy regimes.

Oncogenic transformation has been the major cause of global mortality since decades. Despite established therapeutic regimes, majority of cancer patients either present with tumor relapse, refractory disease or therapeutic resistance. Numerous drug candidates are being explored to tap the key reason being poor tumor remission rates, from novel chemotherapy agents to immunotherapy to exploring natural compound derivatives with effective anti-cancer potential. One of these natural product metabolites, emodin has present with significant potential to target tumor oncogenic processes: induction of apoptosis and cell cycle arrest, tumor angiogenesis, and metastasis to chemoresistance in malignant cells. Based on the present scientific excerpts on safety and effectiveness of emodin in targeting hallmarks of tumor progression, emodin is being promisingly explored using nanotechnology platforms for long-term sustained treatment and management of cancer patients. In this review, we summarize the up-to-date scientific literature supporting the anti-neoplastic potential of emodin. We also provide an insight into toxicity and safety profile of emodin and how emodin has emerged as an effective therapeutic alternative in synergism with established conventional chemotherapeutic regimes for management and treatment of tumor progression.

Purpose of Review In the last month of 2019, i.e., December, COVID-19 hit Wuhan city in China. Since then, it has infected more than 210 countries and nearly about 33.4 million people with one million deaths globally. It is a viral disease with flu-like symptoms; hence, prevention and management is the best option to be adopted for its cure. Recent Findings Many healthcare systems, scientists, and researchers are fighting for the cure of this pandemic. Ayurvedic and allopathic treatments have been studied extensively and approached for the cure of COVID-19. In addition to ayurvedic treatments, the Ministry of Ayush, India, has also recommended many remedies to boost up immunity. Allopathic studies involved several antiviral drugs which were used in different combinations for the treatment of COVID-19. Summary Comparative analysis of Ayurveda and allopathic treatment strategies were carried out in the present study. Depending upon the patient’s conditions and symptoms, Ayurveda is useful for the treatment of COVID-19. Allopathic treatments inhibit viral infection by targeting majorly endocytosis, and angiotensin-converting enzyme (Ace) receptor signaling. In this article, we summarize different ayurvedic and allopathic medicines and treatment strategies which have been used for the treatment of COVID-19, a global pandemic.

The Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) has been established now to be a deadly disease afflicting the whole world with worst consequences on healthcare, economy and day-to-day life activities. Being a communicable disease, which is highly pathogenic in humans, causing cough, throat infection, breathing problems, high fever, muscle pain, and may lead to death in some cases especially those having other comorbid conditions such as heart or kidney problems, and diabetes. Finding an appropriate drug and vaccine candidate against coronavirus disease (COVID-19) remains an ultimate and immediate goal for the global scientific community. Based on previous studies in the literature on SARS-CoV infection, there are a number of drugs that may inhibit the replication of SARS-CoV-2 and its infection. Such drugs comprise of inhibitors of Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme 2 (ACE2), transmembrane Serine Protease 2 (TMPRSS2), nonstructural protein 3C-like protease, nonstructural RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) and many more. The antiviral drugs such as chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine, lopinavir and ritonavir as inhibitors for HIV protease, nucleotide analogue remdesivir, and broad-spectrum antiviral drugs are available to treat the SARS-CoV-2-infected patients. Therefore, this review article is planned to gain insight into the mechanism for blocking the entry of SARS-CoV-2, its validation, other inhibition mechanisms, and development of therapeutic drugs and vaccines against SARS-CoV-2.

The incidence of gastrointestinal disorders (GID) and cancers is escalating all over the world. Limited consumption of colostrum by newborns not only weakens the immune system but also predisposes infants to microbial infections. Colostrum is nature's perfect food, sometimes referred to as the 'elixir of life'. Breast-fed infants have a lower incidence of GI tract infections than infants fed formula or cow's milk. As per WHO statistics, cancer is the most prevalent disease globally and causes 9.6 million deaths worldwide. The current strategies for treating cancer include chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. However, chemotherapy and radiation exposure are usually associated with serious long-term side effects and deterioration in the quality of life (QOL) of patients. Furthermore, the hospitalization and medication costs for treating cancers are exorbitant and impose high economic burden on healthcare systems. People are desperately looking for cost-effective and affordable alternative therapies for treating GID and cancers. Therefore, there is an urgent need for clinically evaluating the anticancer compounds isolated from plants and animals. Such therapies would not only be economical and have fewer side effects, but also help to improve the QOL of cancer patients. Recently, bovine colostrum (BC) has caught the attention of many investigators to explore its anticancer potential in humans. BC impregnated dressings are highly effective in treating chronic wounds and diabetic foot ulcer. BC is rich in lactoferrin, a glycoprotein with strong antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, and anti-microbial properties. Intravaginal application of BC tablets is effective in causing the regression of low-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia. The underlying mechanisms of BC at cellular, genetic, and molecular levels remain to be ascertained. Oral BC supplement is well-tolerated, but some people may experience problems such as flatulence and nausea. Well-designed, randomized, placebo-controlled, clinical trials are needed to access the therapeutic potential, long-term safety, and optimal doses of BC products. This review is aimed to highlight the anticancer potential of BC and its components, and the therapeutic applications of BC supplements in treating gastrointestinal diseases in children and adults. We also discuss the health promotion benefits and therapeutic potential of BC nutraceuticals in reducing the incidence of non-communicable diseases.

Purpose of Review In December 2019, there was an outbreak of viral disease in Wuhan, China which raised the concern across the whole world. The viral disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) or novel coronavirus or COVID-19 (CoV-19) is known as a pandemic. After SARS-CoV and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS)–related CoV, COVID-19 is the third most pathogenic virus, hazardous to humans which have raised worries concerning the capacity of current security measures and the human services framework to deal with such danger. Recent Findings According to WHO, the mortality rate of COVID-19 exceeded that of SARS and MERS in view of which COVID-19 was declared as public health emergency of international concern. Coronaviruses are positive-sense RNA viruses with single stranded RNA and non-segmented envelopes. Recently, genome sequencing confirmed that COVID-19 is similar to SARS-CoV and bat coronavirus, but the major source of this pandemic outbreak, its transmission, and mechanisms related to its pathogenicity to humans are not yet known. Summary In order to prevent the further pandemic and loss to humanity, scientists are studying the development of therapeutic drugs, vaccines, and strategies to cure the infections. In this review, we present a brief introduction to emerging and re-emerging pathogens, i.e., coronavirus in humans and animals, its taxonomic classification, genome organization, its replication, pathogenicity, impact on socioeconomic growth, and drugs associated with COVID-19.

Onosma bracteata Wall. (Boraginaceae) is a highly valuable medicinal herb that is used for the treatment of fever, bronchitis, asthma, rheumatism, stomach irritation, and other inflammatory disorders. The present study aims to explore the hepatoprotective potential of ethanolic extract (Obeth) from O. bracteata aerial parts against carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) which causes hepatic damage in the male Wistar rats. Obeth showed effective radical quenching activity with an EC50 of 115.14 and 199.33 µg/mL in superoxide radical scavenging and lipid peroxidation analyses respectively along with plasmid DNA protective potential in plasmid nicking assay. The Obeth modulated mutagenicity of 2 Aminofluorine (2AF) in the pre-incubation mode of investigation (EC50 10.48 µg/0.1 mL/plate) in TA100 strain of Salmonella typhimurium. In in vivo studies, pretreatment of Obeth (50, 100, and 200 mg/kg) had the potential to normalize the biochemical markers aggravated by CCl4 (1mL/kg b.wt.) including liver antioxidative enzymes. Histopathological analysis also revealed the restoration of CCl4-induced liver histopathological alterations. Immunohistochemical studies showed that the treatment of Obeth downregulated the expression levels of p53 and cyclin D in hepatocytes. and downregulation in the Western blotting analysis revealed the downregulation of p-NF-kB, COX-2, and p53. HPLC data analysis showed the supremacy of major compounds namely, catechin, kaempferol, epicatechin, and Onosmin A in Obeth. The present investigation establishes the hepatoprotective and chemopreventive potential of O. bracteata against CCl4-induced hepatotoxicity via antioxidant defense system and modulation of the expression of proteins associated with the process of carcinogenesis in hepatic cells.

In the last few decades, targeting cancer by the use of dietary phytochemicals has gained enormous attention. The plausible reason and believe or mind set behind this fact is attributed to either lesser or no side effects of natural compounds as compared to the modern chemotherapeutics, or due to their conventional use as dietary components by mankind for thousands of years. Silibinin is a naturally derived polyphenol (a flavonolignans), possess following biochemical features; molecular formula C25H22O10, Molar mass: 482.44 g/mol, Boiling point 793 °C, with strikingly high antioxidant and anti-tumorigenic properties. The anti-cancer properties of Silibinin are determined by a variety of cellular pathways which include induction of apoptosis, cell cycle arrest, inhibition of angiogenesis and metastasis. In addition, Silibinin controls modulation of the expression of aberrant miRNAs, inflammatory response, and synergism with existing anti-cancer drugs. Therefore, modulation of a vast array of cellular responses and homeostatic aspects makes Silibinin an attractive chemotherapeutic agent. However, like other polyphenols, the major hurdle to declare Silibinin a translational chemotherapeutic agent, is its lesser bioavailability. After summarizing the chemistry and metabolic aspects of Silibinin, this extensive review focuses on functional aspects governed by Silibinin in chemoprevention with an ultimate goal of summarizing the evidence supporting the chemopreventive potential of Silibinin and clinical trials that are currently ongoing, at a single platform.

Although there are significant improvements in diagnosis and therapeutics tools, cancer remained a major cause of deaths in developing and developed countries. Among others, endogenously or exogenously generating reactive oxygen species (ROSs) are considered a crucial cause for tumor initiation, development, and survival. Unhealthy lifestyle, exposure to various carcinogens, ionizing radiations, and chemotherapy drugs are the main factors for ROS production. Reactive oxygen species cause genetic instability due to DNA damage or mutation load. Exposer to ROS also modulates the expression of various transcription factors such as Sp1, AP1, and NF-κβ implicated in proliferation, metastasis, and cancer stem cell maintenance. It is suggested that ROSs are involved in various cancer-related process including apoptosis, angiogenesis, metastasis, and inflammation. Numerous data from several studies suggest ROS as one of the therapeutic targets for cancer prevention and cure. The current review summarizing the interactions of ROSs with various cellular molecules involved in angiogenesis, metastasis, and inflammation.

Cancer, being a multifactorial disease has diverse presentation in different subgroups which is mainly attributed to heterogenous presentation of tumor cells. This cancer cell heterogeneity is the major reason for variable response to standard chemotherapeutic regimes owing to which high relapse rate and multi-drug resistance has increasingly been reported over the past decade. Interestingly, the research on natural compounds in combination with standard therapies have reported with interesting and promising results from the pre-clinical trials and few of which have also been tested in other phases of clinical trials. This review focusses on baicalein, an emerging anti-cancerous natural compound, its chemistry and mechanism of action. In view of promising pre-clinical this review is mainly motivated by the results observed from baicalein treatment of different cancer cell population. With the advancing scientific evidence on the anti-malignant potential of baicalein with respect to its pharmacological activities encompassing from anti-inflammatory to anti-angiogenic/anti-metastatic effects, the focus is mainly directed to understanding the precise mechanism of action of baicalein. In the process of understanding the underlying signaling cascades, the role of mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK), mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), AKT serine/threonine protein kinase B (AKT), poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP), matrix metalloproteinases-2 (MMP-2), matrix metalloproteinases-9 (MMP-9) and caspase-3/-8,-9 have been highlighted as the major players for baicalein anti-malignant potential. This is also supported by the interesting pre-clinical findings which cumulatively pave the way ahead for development of baicalein as an adjunct anti-cancer treatment with chemotherapeutic agents.

Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), also known as epigallocatechin-3-gallate, is an ester of epigallocatechin and gallic acid. EGCG, abundantly found in tea, is a polyphenolic flavonoid that has the potential to affect human health and disease. EGCG interacts with various recognized cellular targets and inhibits cancer cell proliferation by inducing apoptosis and cell cycle arrest. In addition, scientific evidence has illustrated the promising role of EGCG in inhibiting tumor cell metastasis and angiogenesis. It has also been found that EGCG may reverse drug resistance of cancer cells and could be a promising candidate for synergism studies. The prospective importance of EGCG in cancer treatment is owed to its natural origin, safety, and low cost which presents it as an attractive target for further development of novel cancer therapeutics. A major challenge with EGCG is its low bioavailability which is being targeted for improvement by encapsulating EGCG in nano-sized vehicles for further delivery. However, there are major limitations of the studies on EGCG, including study design, experimental bias, and inconsistent results and reproducibility among different study cohorts. Additionally, it is important to identify specific EGCG pharmacological targets in the tumor-specific signaling pathways for development of novel combined therapeutic treatments with EGCG. The present review highlights the ongoing development to identify cellular and molecular targets of EGCG in cancer. Furthermore, the role of nanotechnology-mediated EGCG combinations and delivery systems will also be discussed.

Garcinol, a polyisoprenylated benzophenone, is the medicinal component obtained from fruits and leaves of Garcinia indica (G. indica) and has traditionally been extensively used for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. In addition, it has been also been experimentally illustrated to elicit anti-cancer properties. Several in vitro and in vivo studies have illustrated the potential therapeutic efficiency of garcinol in management of different malignancies. It mainly acts as an inhibitor of cellular processes via regulation of transcription factors NF-κB and JAK/STAT3 in tumor cells and have been demonstrated to effectively inhibit growth of malignant cell population. Numerous studies have highlighted the anti-neoplastic potential of garcinol in different oncological transformations including colon cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, head and neck cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma, etc. However, use of garcinol is still in its pre-clinical stage and this is mainly attributed to the limitations of conclusive evaluation of pharmacological parameters. This necessitates evaluation of garcinol pharmacokinetics to precisely identify an appropriate dose and route of administration, tolerability, and potency under physiological conditions along with characterization of a therapeutic index. Hence, the research is presently ongoing in the dimension of exploring the precise metabolic mechanism of garcinol. Despite various lacunae, garcinol has presented with promising anti-cancer effects. Hence, this review is motivated by the constantly emerging and promising positive anti-cancerous effects of garcinol. This review is the first effort to summarize the mechanism of action of garcinol in modulation of anti-cancer effect via regulation of different cellular processes.

There exist overwhelming evidence that plant-derived bioactive flavonoids possess strong therapeutic activities against cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and age-related neurodegenerative disorders. Several drug discovery studies have suggested the therapeutic potential of apigenin (APG) are due to its strong anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, and anti-tumor properties. APG is found in citrus fruits, vegetables, spices, and herbs. It is well documented that APG can modulate a wide variety of intra- and extra-cellular signaling pathways in in vitro cancer cell lines and in vivo neoplasm systems, and consequently retard or inhibit abnormal growth of tissues. Co-administration of APG with anti-cancer drugs has shown to increase the therapeutic potency of the later. The overall aims and objectives of this review are to highlight the potential role of APG in the prevention and treatment of different types of malignant human cancers. We will also describe different purported biochemical mechanisms associated with the inhibition of cancer cell proliferation and tumor growth.

Despite the advancement in the well-equipped and sophisticated laboratories and facilities, cancer remains to be a major cause of death worldwide. Consequently, further investigation of novel strategies need to be evolved. Since the last few decades, the utilization of phytochemicals is emerging against several human cancers, including lung, breast, colon carcinoma, lymphoma, and other hematological malignancies. Terpenoids are a category of therapeutically active phytochemicals that have been utilized against cancer, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative disorders. Particularly, celastrol, a pentacyclic terpenoid, is well-studied for its variety of pharmacological properties. It is well documented that celastrol can modulate a variety of signaling pathways. Celastrol's anti-proliferative role has been found to be associated with its pro-apoptotic (via protein kinase B), anti-angiogenic (via vascular endothelial growth factor and vascular endothelial growth factor receptor), anti-metastatic (via matrix metalloproteinases), and anti-inflammatory (via cytokines and chemokines) activities. This review describes various molecular mechanisms of celastrol for understanding the biology of cancer initiation, progression as well as designing efficacious therapeutic strategies.

Celastrol is a highly investigated anticancer moiety. It is a pentacyclic triterpenoid, isolated several decades ago with promising role in chemoprevention. Celastrol has been found to target multiple proinflammatory, angiogenic and metastatic proteins. Inhibition of these targets results in significant reduction of cancer growth, survival and metastasis. This review summarizes the varied molecular targets of celastrol along with insight into the various recently published clinical, preclinical and industrial patents (2011–2017).

Despite extensive efforts, cancer is still often considered as an incurable disease and initiation of novel drug development programs is crucial to improve the prognosis and clinical outcome of patients. One of the major approaches in designing the novel cancer drugs has historically comprised studies of natural agents with diverse anticancer properties. As only a marginal part of natural compounds has been investigated, this approach still represents an attractive source of new potential antitumor molecules. In this review article, different anticancer effects of plant-derived chalcone, butein, are discussed, including its growth inhibitory action, proapoptotic, antiangiogenic and antimetastatic activities in a variety of cancer cells. The molecular mechanisms underlying these effects are presented in detail, revealing interactions of butein with multiple cellular targets (Bcl-2/Bax, caspases, STAT3, cyclins, NF-κB, COX-2, MMP-9, VEGF/R etc.) and regulation of a wide range of intracellular signal transduction pathways. These data altogether allow a good basis for initiating further in vivo studies as well as clinical trials. Along with the efforts to overcome low bioavailability issues generally characteristic to plant metabolites, butein can be considered as a potential lead compound for safe and more efficient cancer drugs in the future.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are the non-coding class of minute RNA molecules that negatively control post-transcriptional regulation of various functional genes. These miRNAs are transcribed from the loci present in the introns of functional or protein-coding genes, exons of non-coding genes, or even in the 3'-untranslated region (3'-UTR). They have potential to modulate the stability or translational efficiency of a variety of target RNA [messenger RNA (mRNA)]. The regulatory function of miRNAs has been elucidated in several pathological conditions, including neurological (Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease) and cardiovascular conditions, along with cancer. Importantly, miRNA identification in cancer progression and invasion has evolved as an incipient era in cancer treatment. Several studies have shown the influence of miRNAs on various cancer processes, including apoptosis, invasion, metastasis and angiogenesis. In particular, apoptosis induction in tumor cells through miRNA has been extensively studied. The biphasic mode (up- and down-regulation) of miRNA expression in apoptosis and other cancer processes has already been determined. The findings of these studies could be utilized to develop potential therapeutic strategies for the management of various cancers. The present review critically describes the oncogenic and tumor suppressor role of miRNAs in apoptosis and other cancer processes, therapy resistance, and use of their presence in the body fluids as biomarkers.

A wide variety of chronic diseases, such as neurodegenerative and cardiovascular disorders, diabetes mellitus, osteoarthtitis, obesity and various cancers, are now being treated with cost effective phytomedicines. Since synthetic medicines are very expensive, concerted efforts are being made in developing and poor countries to discover cost effective medicines for the treatment of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Understanding the underlying mechanisms of bioactive medicines from natural sources would not only open incipient avenues for the scientific community and pharmaceutical industry to discover new drug molecules for the therapy of NCDs, but also help to garner knowledge for alternative therapeutic approaches for the management of chronic diseases. Fisetin is a polyphenolic molecule of flavonoids class, and belongs to the bioactive phytochemicals that have potential to block multiple signaling pathways associated with NCDs such as cell division, angiogenesis, metastasis, oxidative stress, and inflammation. The emerging evidence suggests that fisetin may be useful for the prevention and management of several types of human malignancies. Efforts are being made to enhance the bioavailability of fisetin after oral administration to prevent and/or treat cancer of the liver, breast, ovary and other organs. The intent of this review is to highlight the in vitro and in vivo activities of fisetin and to provide up-to-date information about the molecular interactions of fisetin with its cellular targets involved in cancer initiation, promotion and progression as well as to focus on strategies underway to increase the bioavailability and reduce the risk of deleterious effects, if any, associated with fisetin administration.

Bioactive polyphenolic compounds derived from plants are being utilized for prevention of various chronic diseases including cancer and cardiovascular disorders. Quercetin, a potential poly-phenolic flavonol, found in onions, apples and berries, has been implicated against cancer proliferation, chronic inflammation and various other oxidative manifestations. Evidences suggested that quercetin negatively regulates the numerous crucial signaling pathways associated with life-threatening diseases. Major signaling pathways including NF-κB, MAPK, PI3K-AKT and mTOR are found to be regulated by quercetin. In addition, several patents have reported recently on quercetin derivatives describing wide therapeutic applications such as anticancer/antiproliferatory, antioxidative/antiaging, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, cardioprotective. Present review emphasizes the chemistry and sources of quercetin followed by description of its broad-spectrum therapeutic potential along with proposed mechanisms of action. Furthermore, this review also highlights the important modifications in the basic chemical structure of quercetin in terms of published patents. Insolubility of the bioactive compounds restricts their medicinal importance which could be overcome by modifications in the chemical structure of so-called derivatives. Most of the patents deal with the modifications in chemical structure of quercetin mainly at hydroxyl groups and C-6 and C-7 positions.

Cancer is a multifactorial condition that originates from genomic alterations in the cells, which confer them the ability to evade various cellular regulations and proliferate incessantly. Furthermore, the accumulation of these mutations confers metastatic abilities to the tumor cells, which help them in contriving various features essential for invasion of the host tissues and evading immune surveillance and thus spreading to distant sites. Metastasis is a key phenomenon in cancer pathogenesis, which involves invasion of host tissue, escape into the blood vascular system, survival within the circulation, extravasation into the secondary sites, establishment of micrometastasis, and colonization. The tumor cells utilize various host cells and pathways to reach the pre-destined sites, also known as pre-metastatic niches (PMNs). The primary tumor is known to secrete various factors, which render the secondary metastatic sites hospitable for the arriving tumor cells. These tumor cells, in turn, invade the PMNs and either undergo dormancy or outgrow to develop secondary metastases. Since metastasis involves a cascade of events, it also offers attractive targets for therapeutic intervention. This chapter elaborates the series of events involved in metastasis initiation and progression along with the role of PMNs and various therapeutic approaches to target metastasis.

Autophagy is an intracellular degradation and recycling system that aids in maintaining the cellular metabolism and homeostasis. Various cellular stresses, including organelle damage, deprivation of nutrients, and accumulation of damaged proteins lead to autophagy that can be associated with cell survival or cell death. Autophagy is initiated with the formation of autophagosome which is a double membrane vesicle. Autophagosome fuses with the lysosome to form autolysosome and deliver cytoplasmic contents that can be degraded or recycled to adapt cellular stressful conditions. Autophagy acts in playing dual roles in tumor suppression and tumor promotion. In addition, autophagy is involved in the maintenance of stemness and homeostasis in cancer stem cells, cancer metastases, and development of resistance to anti-cancer reagents by regulating the expression of many autophagy associated genes. Autophagy modulators such as chloroquine, rapamycin, and their derivatives are used against many cancers, and are in clinical trials. The complete understanding of mechanisms that link autophagy with cancer growth and suppression may aid in the development of promising therapeutics against cancer.

Cancer being a multifactorial disease, its genesis and progression are enormously complicated. The classical chemotherapeutics along with recent targeted molecular therapy approach have not been effective in complete eradication of all tumor cells and is often been limited by drug resistance and side effects on normal tissues and cells. With the fast evolving field of genomics and molecular medicine translating into precision medicine, the importance of individualized therapeutic protocols has been realized. For transitioning from surgical treatments to radiotherapy to chemo and immunotherapies, in this fast advancing world, it will not be far away when the personalized medicine will be the choice of treatment for one and all. The major challenge in the anticancer drug development is multidrug resistance and relapse. In this chapter, we describe the promising anticancer targets in different phases of drug development in clinical trials along with new drug targets for personalized cancer treatment in near future.

Cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide, just behind cardiovascular diseases. In fact, there was an estimated 18.1 million new cancer cases and 9.6 million cancer deaths in 2018 around the world. Due to the continuously increasing global prevalence of malignancies, novel efficient therapeutics and treatment strategies are highly needed. The most common types of cancer treatment modalities include surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. At that, over 50% of all cancer patients receive chemotherapy in some stages of their disease. Although modern drugs are very efficient to kill tumor cells, they also affect normal healthy cells often causing intolerable side effects. In addition, drug resistance to chemotherapeutic agents is problematic. Several signaling pathways are found to be associated with cancer progression and survival. This book chapter presents an overview of various oncotherapies in cancer.

Obesity is found to be a contributing risk factor for Cardiovascular Dysfunction (CVD), coronary heart disease (CHD) and heart failure (HF). Obesity is found to be linked to the release of several proinflammatory mediators. The fluctuation in the levels of these mediators and adipocytokines released by the adipocytes further leads to cardiovascular complications. The increase in the risk of CVD and mortality caused by obesity is due to increasing levels of atherosclerotic plaques in the arteries and blood vessels leading to the heart. The current available treatment strategies leads to several unwanted side effects for the patient which leads to a decreased quality of life. Flavonoids are polyphenolic compounds which occur naturally in nature. Several clinical and preclinical studies have demonstrated that flavonoids are beneficial in decreasing the cardiovascular risks presented by obesity. The mechanism of action primarily depends on the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory actions of flavonoids. In view of these observations, the intake of foods containing flavonoids have enormous potential in preventing obesity induced cardio-metabolic diseases. However, randomized and placebo-controlled clinical trials are needed to determine the long-term safety and efficacy of different flavonoids. The focus of this chapter is to highlight the cost-effective health benefits of flavonoid-rich-foods and dietary supplements containing flavonoids for the prevention and cure of obesity linked cardiovascular diseases (CVDs).

Eukaryotic cell division is divided into several phases and each of these phases has their own control mechanisms. Failure of any of these control mechanisms may lead to development of errors which may be propagated to up-coming generations leading to development of carcinogenic phenotype. Therefore, cell cycle has become an attractive target in anticancer research which is mainly focused on dealing with the regulators and checkpoints involved in the progression of cell cycle. The major components involved in controlling the cell cycle are cyclins, cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs), and cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors (CDKIs). Apart from these, an efficient DNA repair system and the proper assembly of spindle fibers also contribute to smooth progression of cell cycle. Therefore, in addition to the great dependency of anticancer research on cyclins, CDKs, and CDKIs, DNA repair system and assembly of spindle fiber also contribute to the foundation of anticancer research. In this chapter, we describe cell cycle and its importance in anticancer research, the clinical studies based on cell cycle to curb neoplastic development, and approaches used in anti-tumor research to counter cancer progression.

Background: Genistein is one among the several other known isoflavones that is found in different soybeans and soy products. The chemical name of genistein is 4',5,7-trihydroxyisoflavone. Genistein has drawn attention of scientific community because of its potential beneficial effects on human grave diseases, such as cancer. Mechanistic insight of genistein reveals its potential for apoptotic induction, cell cycle arrest, as well as antiangiogenic, antimetastatic, and anti-inflammatory effects. Objective: The purpose of this review is to unravel and analyze various molecular mechanisms of genistein in diverse cancer models. Data sources: English language literature was searched using various databases, such as PubMed, ScienceDirect, EBOSCOhost, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library. Key words used in various combinations included genistein, cancer, anticancer, molecular mechanisms prevention, treatment, in vivo, in vitro, and clinical studies. Study selection: Study selection was carried out strictly in accordance with the statement of Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses. Data extraction: Four authors independently carried out the extraction of articles. Data synthesis: One hundred one papers were found suitable for use in this review. Conclusion: This review covers various molecular interactions of genistein with various cellular targets in cancer models. It will help the scientific community understand genistein and cancer biology and will provoke them to design novel therapeutic strategies.

Application of natural product-based nanoformulations for the treatment of different human diseases, such as cancer, is an emerging field. The conventional cancer therapeutic modalities, including surgery, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiotherapy has limited achievements. A larger number of drawbacks are associated with these therapies, including damage to proliferating healthy tissues, structural deformities, systemic toxicity, long-term side effects, resistance to the drug by tumor cells, and psychological problems. The advent of nanotechnology in cancer therapeutics is recent; however, it has progressed and transformed the field of cancer treatment at a rapid rate. Nanotherapeutics have promisingly overcome the limitations of conventional drug delivery system, i.e., low aqueous solubility, low bioavailability, multidrug resistance, and non-specificity. Specifically, natural product-based nanoformulations are being intentionally studied in different model systems. Where it is found that these nanoformulations has more proximity and reduced side effects. The nanoparticles can specifically target tumor cells, enhancing the specificity and efficacy of cancer therapeutic modalities which in turn improves patient response and survival. The integration of phytotherapy and nanotechnology in the clinical setting may improve pharmacological response and better clinical outcome of patients.

The techniques which exploit the specific interactions between antigen and antibody for their detection, quantification, and localization have been known as immunotechniques. B-cells in humans and other organisms have been known as progenitors of protein molecules referred as antibodies which are produced when the organisms encounter a foreign entity or molecule. Western blotting is an important immunotechnique often used in molecular biology research to separate and identify specific proteins. Enzyme linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) is sensitive and robust technique for detecting and quantifying antigen or antibody. The basic principle in enzyme- linked immunoassays involves the conjugation of appropriate enzyme with antibody. Some of the wide applications of ELISA encompassed screening infections such as HIV, hepatitis, measuring hormone levels such as HCG, LH, TSH, anabolic steroids, detecting allergens, and prohibited drugs. Flow cytometry is the most powerful tool to measure the properties of individual particle from the mixture.

Cancer is an anomalous growth and differentiation of cells known to be governed by oncogenic factors. Plant-based natural metabolites have been well recognized to possess chemopreventive properties. Deguelin, a natural rotenoid, is among the class of bioactive phytoconstituents from a diverse range of plants with potential antineoplastic effects in different cancer subtypes. However, the precise mechanisms of how deguelin inhibits tumor progression remains elusive. Deguelin has shown promising results in targeting the hallmarks of tumor progression via inducing tumor apoptosis, cell cycle arrest, and inhibition of angiogenesis and metastasis. Based on initial scientific excerpts, deguelin has been reported to inhibit tumor growth via different signaling pathways, including mitogen-activated protein kinase, phosphoinositide 3-kinase, serine/threonine protein kinase B (also known as Akt), mammalian target of rapamycin, nuclear factor-κB, matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2, MMP-9 and caspase-3, caspase-8, and caspase-9. This review summarizes the mechanistic insights of antineoplastic action of deguelin to gain a clear understanding of its therapeutic effects in cancer. The anticancer potential of deguelin with respect to its efficacy in targeting tumorigenesis via nanotechnological approaches is also investigated. The initial scientific findings have presented deguelin as a promising antitumorigenic agent which can be used for monotherapy as well as synergistically to augment efficacy of chemotherapeutic treatment regimes.

Background: Plant derived products are not only served as dietary components but also used to treat and prevent the inflammatory associated diseases like cancer. Among the natural products pentacyclic terpenoids including ursolic acid and oleanolic acid are considered as the promising anti-inflammatory therapeutic agents. Objectives: The current review extensively discusses the anti-inflammatory therapeutic potential of these pentacyclic moieties along with their proposed mechanisms of action. Furthermore, the relevant patents have also been listed to present the health benefits of these promising therapeutic agents to pin down the inflammatory diseases. Expert opinion: Pentacyclic terpenoids are known to negatively down-regulate a variety of extracellular and intracellular molecular targets associated with disease progression. The major anti-inflammatory effects of these molecules have been found to be mediated via inactivation of NF , STAT3/6, Akt/mTOR pathways. A number of patents on UA & OA based moieties have been reported between 2010 and 2016. Still there have been only a few compounds which meet the need of sufficient hydro solubility and bioavailability along with higher anti-inflammatory activities. Thus, it is essential to develop novel derivatives of terpenpoids which may not only overcome the solubility issues but also may improve their therapeutic effects. In addition, scientific community may utilize nanotechnology based drug delivery systems so as to increase the bio-availability, selectivity and dosages related problems.

Tocotrienols, found in several natural sources such as rice bran, annatto seeds, and palm oil have been reported to exert various beneficial health promoting properties especially against chronic diseases, including cancer. The incidence of cancer is rapidly increasing around the world not only because of continual aging and growth in global population, but also due to the adaptation of Western lifestyle behaviours, including intake of high fat diets and low physical activity. Tocotrienols can suppress the growth of different malignancies, including those of breast, lung, ovary, prostate, liver, brain, colon, myeloma, and pancreas. These findings, together with the reported safety profile of tocotrienols in healthy human volunteers, encourage further studies on the potential application of these compounds in cancer prevention and treatment. In the current article, detailed information about the potential molecular mechanisms of actions of tocotrienols in different cancer models has been presented and the possible effects of these vitamin E analogues on various important cancer hallmarks, i.e., cellular proliferation, apoptosis, angiogenesis, metastasis, and inflammation have been briefly analyzed.

Flavonoids consist of a large family of polyphenolic molecules like flavones, flavonols, flavanols, isoflavones, flavanones, and anthocyanidins which are ubiquitously distributed in nature and are present in a wide array of plant products, including fruits, vegetables, and green tea. Because of their powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer properties, rigorous research is going on with a number of flavonoids (quercetin, quercitrin, rutin, morin, kaempferol, etc.) to investigate their disease-preventive and health-promoting benefits in humans. Several studies have shown that the cancer prevention and pharmacotherapeutic potential of different flavonoids depend on the type of flavonoid and its chemical structure, bioavailability, effective blood levels, and pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic characteristics. Many in vivo and in vitro studies conducted with different types of flavonoids have revealed diverse effects against different types of cancers. However, the major flavonoids (apigenin, luteolin, kaempferol) found in vegetarian diet have depicted limited possibility of curing cancer. In vitro studies done with apigenin and luteolin have shown effectiveness against cervical cancer cells, while kaempferol produced oncolytic effects against gastric and ovarian cancer cells. These flavonoids and their metabolites have revealed different anticancer effects due to their rapid metabolism in the small intestine and liver. Cancers comprise a group of noncommunicable diseases characterized by long-term debilitating illnesses that cause heavy burden on the healthcare system. At present, certain types of cancers are incurable, and palliative interventions are directed to delay the spread of malignant cancer and to ameliorate the painful episodes associated with cancer. The purpose of this review is to focus on the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME) of different flavonoids and to evaluate the immune-boosting, cancer-preventive, and therapeutic potential of flavonoids against different types of cancers.

In recent years, the burden of several chronic diseases, including cancer, has increased rapidly worldwide. Although there are several diagnostic and treatment options available to health-care providers, the cancer-induced mortality rate is escalating globally. Interestingly enough, the development and utilization of plant-derived natural compounds therapy for the prevention and treatment of cancer are being rigorously pursued by overwhelming number of investigators. In the category of natural compounds, flavonoids occupy an important place and are being extensively studied in animal models and cancer patients to evaluate their anticancer potential. The chemopreventive role of flavonoids and their underlying mechanisms of action against cancer have been well documented in the literature. The present chapter summarizes the purported cellular, molecular, and genetic mechanisms of anticancer action of flavonoids, such as apoptosis induction, cell cycle arrest, anti-angiogenesis, anti-metastasis, and anti-inflammatory and antioxidant aspects. In addition, the anticancer roles of related flavonols (quercetin), flavones (luteolin), isoflavone (genistein), anthocyanidin (cyanidin), flavanone (naringenin), and flavan-3-ols (epigallocatechin-3-gallate) are also described.

Background: Natural products represent a therapeutic option for the treatment of inflammation- associated diseases. Flavonoids which are one of the special categories of such natural products, have previously shown promising therapeutic potential. Objectives: The current review discusses the synthetic preview and anti-inflammatory potential of apigenin along with the underlying molecular mechanism in chronic human diseases especially cancer. In addition, the relevant patents on the therapeutic potential of apigenin have also been mentioned. Methods: A literature search was carried out using PubMed/Science, Google Scholar, etc. which was further expended by the different combination of keywords: apigenin, inflammation, mechanism, therapeutic potential, cancer, etc. Patent information was retrieved by searching the key terms: apigenin, inflammation, therapeutic potential from various databanks including Espacenet, Google Patents, Free Patents Online and Mendeley of WIPO, USPTO, SIPO, JPO, KIPO and EPO databases. Results: A total of 76 references have been found relevant with the theme of the manuscript. These citations have described recent ongoing advances in the area of inflammation and cancer with respect to apigenin. Conclusion: Studies related to the anti-inflammatory and anticancer potential of apigenin have been explored through this review article. Moreover, the patent analysis of apigenin has further strengthened its therapeutic role. Probing into the therapeutic properties of apigenin, further adds value to this molecule in terms of its downregulation of major inflammatory and cancer-associated signaling pathways. The article would simultaneously assist the scientific community to precisely understand the role of apigenin and design novel anti-cancer therapies.
