This study aimed to describe the anatomical topography of the abdominal cavity of buffaloes in the quadruped position to establish the best endosurgical access and vantage points and identify possible limitations. Laparoscopies were performed on 10 healthy female buffaloes obtained from the Universidade Federal Rural da Amazonia to explore possible access points to the abdomen. Techniques for assessing and possibly observing certain organs and structures through the left and right flanks of 10 animals have been described. In five animals, access was created through the right side of the last intercostal space to allow more cranial access to the abdominal cavity. Despite the presence of the rumen, access through the left flank allowed the visualization of the structures of the gastrointestinal tract and the genitourinary system. With access through the right flank, however, imaging was hampered by the presence of the greater omentum and its deep and superficial walls, which prevented the progression of the endoscope. Access through the last right intercostal space allowed the visualization of the cranial structures of the abdominal cavity, such as the caudate process, right lobe of the liver, right kidney, and pancreas. Laparoscopic access through the left flank and the last intercostal space in healthy buffaloes in the quadruped position is feasible, and it is promising for the exploration, diagnosis, and treatment of various disorders in buffaloes.

A 56‐year‐old woman entered the emergency department due to worsening dyspnea. Severe mitral regurgitation and pulmonary artery dilation with flow compatible with fistula were observed by transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography. The patient had history of an ALCAPA (anomalous left coronary artery from pulmonary artery) syndrome having undergone coronary artery bypass grafting (saphenous venous graft to left anterior descending artery) 30 years before. Coronary angiography and computed tomography revealed patency of the graft, with the dilated vein running across the front of the ascending aorta and being responsible for the perfusion of the left anterior descending artery and circumflex artery. We resent this case for discussion of which surgical strategy/options are available in order to treat the mitral valve and avoid injuring the patent graft.

Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) causes an infectious disease characterized by inflammation and pain of the musculoskeletal tissues accompanied by swelling in the joints and cartilage damage. Currently, there are no licensed vaccines or chemotherapeutic agents to prevent or treat CHIKV infections. In this context, our research aimed to explore the potential in vitro anti-CHIKV activity of acrylamide derivatives. In silico methods were applied to 132 Michael&rsquo, s acceptors toward the six most important biological targets from CHIKV. Subsequently, the ten most promising acrylamides were selected and synthesized. From the cytotoxicity MTT assay, we verified that LQM330, 334, and 336 demonstrate high cell viability at 40 &micro, M. Moreover, these derivatives exhibited anti-CHIKV activities, highlighting the compound LQM334 which exhibited an inhibition value of 81%. Thus, docking simulations were performed to suggest a potential CHIKV-target for LQM334. It was observed that the LQM334 has a high affinity towards the E3-E2-E1 glycoproteins complex. Moreover, LQM334 reduced the percentage of CHIKV-positive cells from 74.07 to 0.88%, 48h post-treatment on intracellular flow cytometry staining. In conclusion, all virtual simulations corroborated with experimental results, and LQM334 could be used as a promising anti-CHIKV scaffold for designing new drugs in the future.

The preliminary design of suspension bridges is a very important step in the design of a structure, since this stage is the one that will lead to an efficient and economic structure. The models that are used nowadays are complex and sometimes hard to apply, leading to a lack of comprehension from the designing team. This work proposes a new simplified method for the preliminary design of cable suspension bridges that relate the stiffness of the deck truss with the stiffness of the cable, in which stresses are calculated. This relation is intended to know how much of the live load is absorbed by each of these elements and finally obtaining the pre-design values of each substructure. First simple parametric tests are executed using the proposed method and finite element method with geometrical non-linear analysis, in order to study its accuracy. Finally, a real case study is analysed using a known Portuguese suspension bridge, in which the proposed method is applied and compared with numerical solutions.

Surgical intervention for umbilical diseases in calves, when indicated, is a complementary and indispensable therapeutic resource for the treatment of umbilical conditions and is commonly performed using celiotomy. However, videolaparoscopy has demonstrated feasibility in many diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The aim of this study was to assess the feasibility of the techniques and the surgical time of videolaparoscopy and celiotomy used in intra-abdominal resection of the umbilical vein and urachus of bovine fetuses (cadavers). Resection of the umbilical vein and urachus using videolaparoscopy and celiotomy was performed in 26 anatomical specimens (bovine fetuses obtained from an official slaughterhouse). Resection of umbilical structures was feasible with both techniques, but shorter surgical time and minimal tissue damage were achieved using videolaparoscopy. Laparoscopy requires specialized training and appropriate instruments and is an important tool for diagnostic and therapeutic exploration of the umbilical structures, liver, bladder, and associated/adjacent structures.

Objective: This study highlights through an integrative review the importance of multidisciplinary treatment in the rehabilitation of cleft lip and/or palate. Study Design: An integrative review was performed using SciELO and Lilacs databases, with the descriptors cleft lip, cleft palate, and multidisciplinary treatment. Results: Based on the literary works analyzed, it was noted that for the treatment to be successful, an intervention with multidisciplinary participation is necessary. It is the union of medicine with dentistry for surgical promotion, along with nutrition, phonoaudiology and psychology to obtain rehabilitation before and after the surgical procedure. Conclusion: The treatment of the patient with cleft lip or palate should be done by a multidisciplinary team, aiming at rehabilitation and avoiding physical and psychological consequences, along with a social monitoring of the families, thus evidencing the risk factors that can induce the cleft lip palate (CLP). Following this aspect, it is the responsibility of health professionals to adequately treat those affected, giving all the necessary support for their rehabilitation.
