Abstract Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) has emerged as a predominant liver disease worldwide, lacking approved drugs for clinical intervention at present. The composite dietary antioxidant index (CDAI) is used to assess the anti-inflammatory properties of diets, with higher CDAI indicating greater exposure to antioxidants. Therefore, our study aimed to explore the relationship between CDAI and MASLD in order to identify potential therapeutic approaches. We collected data from 12,286 participants in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database from 2017 to 2020 for analysis. The correlation between CDAI and MASLD status, controlled attenuation parameter (CAP), and liver stiffness measurement (LSM) was evaluated by adjusting for confounding variables using weighted binary logistic regression model, linear regression model, and restricted cubic spline (RCS) regression. The median CDAI in this study was − 0.3055 (interquartile range [IQR], − 2.299 to 2.290). The CDAI was higher in the population characterized by being young, female, higher income, absence of diabetes, and non-MASLD. After multivariable adjustment, the results of the weighted linear regression model suggested that higher CDAI may be associated with a decrease in CAP values; the results of the RCS regression model indicated significant non-linear relationships between MASLD status, CAP, LSM, and CDAI. The CDAI corresponding to the inflection points of the relationship curves between MASLD status, CAP, LSM, and CDAI were 0.349, 0.699, and 0.174, respectively. After further stratification by gender, we found that the relationship between MASLD status, CAP, and CDAI was significantly linear for females, whereas for males, it was non-linear, and the CDAI values corresponding to the inflection points in the curves for males were 1.325 and 0.985, respectively. We found that higher CDAI may be associated with decreased CAP values, particularly significant in females, suggesting that the intake of complex dietary antioxidants may ameliorate hepatic steatosis and reduce the occurrence of MASLD. Therefore, promoting dietary patterns rich in antioxidants may be an appropriate strategy to reduce the incidence of MASLD.

Abstract Background/purpose(s) The gut microbiota and its metabolites play crucial roles in pathogenesis of arthritis, highlighting gut microbiota as a promising avenue for modulating autoimmunity. However, the characterization of the gut virome in arthritis patients, including osteoarthritis (OA) and gouty arthritis (GA), requires further investigation. Methods We employed virus-like particle (VLP)-based metagenomic sequencing to analyze gut viral community in 20 OA patients, 26 GA patients, and 31 healthy controls, encompassing a total of 77 fecal samples. Results Our analysis generated 6819 vOTUs, with a considerable proportion of viral genomes differing from existing catalogs. The gut virome in OA and GA patients differed significantly from healthy controls, showing variations in diversity and viral family abundances. We identified 157 OA-associated and 94 GA-associated vOTUs, achieving high accuracy in patient-control discrimination with random forest models. OA-associated viruses were predicted to infect pro-inflammatory bacteria or bacteria associated with immunoglobulin A production, while GA-associated viruses were linked to Bacteroidaceae or Lachnospiraceae phages. Furthermore, several viral functional orthologs displayed significant differences in frequency between OA-enriched and GA-enriched vOTUs, suggesting potential functional roles of these viruses. Additionally, we trained classification models based on gut viral signatures to effectively discriminate OA or GA patients from healthy controls, yielding AUC values up to 0.97, indicating the clinical utility of the gut virome in diagnosing OA or GA. Conclusion Our study highlights distinctive alterations in viral diversity and taxonomy within gut virome of OA and GA patients, offering insights into arthritis etiology and potential treatment and prevention strategies. Abstract Background Studies has suggested that receiving social support improves the professional identity of health professional students. According to the two-way social support theory, social support includes receiving social support and giving social support. However, the effect of the two-way social support on health professional students’ professional identity has not been clarified yet. Methods To explore the mechanism of how two-way social support affects health professional students’ professional identity, an observational, cross-sectional study was conducted among a convenience and cluster sample of 1449 health professional students from two medical schools in western China. Measures included a short version of the two-way social support scale, a health professional students’ professional identity questionnaire, an achievement motivation scale, and a meaning in life scale. (Data were analyzed by use of SPSS26.0 software, Amos 28.0 software, and PROCESSv4.0 plug-in.). Results Receiving social support, giving social support, achievement motivation, meaning in life, and professional identity were positively correlated with each other. Receiving and giving social support not only directly predicted health professional students’ professional identity, but also indirectly predicted health professional students’ professional identity through the mediating roles of achievement motivation and meaning in life, and the chain mediating roles of achievement motivation and meaning in life, respectively. The effectiveness of predicting health professional students’ professional identity varied among different types of two-way social support, which could be depicted as two-way social support > mainly giving social support > mainly receiving social support > low two-way social support. Conclusion In the medical education, the awareness and ability of health professional students to receive and give social support should be strengthened. More attention should be drawn on the chain mediating effect of achievement motivation and meaning in life between two-way social support and professional identity. The current results shed new light on exploring effective ways of improving health professional students’ professional identity, which suggested that more attention should be paid to the positive effects of mainly giving social support and two-way social support rather than only on the effects of receiving social support.

Abstract Rheumatoid Arthritis is a more serious threatening to people and suitable for QOL measurement. A few specific QOL instruments are available without considering Chinese culture. The present study was aimed to develop and validate the Rheumatoid Arthritis Scale among the System of Quality of Life Instruments for Chronic Diseases (QLICD-RA V2.0). The data collected from 379 patients with RA was used to evaluate the psychometric properties of the scale. The reliability was evaluated by the internal consistency Cronbach’s α, test–retest reliability Pearson correlation r and intra-class correlation (ICC). We evaluated the construct validity and criteria-related validity by correlation analysis and structural equation modeling. We compared the differences in scores of QLICD-RA before and after treatment and used the Standard Response Mean (SRM) to assess the responsiveness. The results showed that the internal consistency coefficient Cronbach’s α values were greater than 0.70. The correlations r and ICCs were greater than 0.80. The correlation analysis and structural equation modeling confirmed good construct validity and criterion-related validity. The SRM ranges from 0.07 to 0.27 for significant domains/facets. It concluded that QLICD-RA (2.0) is a reliable and valid instrument to measure QOL among patients with RA.

Abstract Background Indobufen is widely used in patients with aspirin intolerance in East Asia. The OPTION trial launched by our cardiac center examined the performance of indobufen based dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). However, the vast majority of patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and aspirin intolerance were excluded. We aimed to explore this question in a real-world population. Methods Patients enrolled in the ASPIRATION registry were grouped according to the DAPT strategy that they received after PCI. The primary endpoints were major adverse cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events (MACCE) and Bleeding Academic Research Consortium (BARC) type 2, 3, or 5 bleeding. Propensity score matching (PSM) was adopted for confounder adjustment. Results A total of 7135 patients were reviewed. After one-year follow-up, the indobufen group was associated with the same risk of MACCE versus the aspirin group after PSM (6.5% vs. 6.5%, hazard ratio [HR] = 0.99, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.65 to 1.52, P = 0.978). ObjectiveTo investigate the high-risk detection rate and aggregation of cardiovascular diseases（CVD） in 8 districts of Shanghai and influencing factors， and to provide scientific references for prevention and control of CVD.MethodsBased on the Cardiovascular Disease Screening and Management Program in Shanghai from 2016 to 2021， 104 685 participants aged 35 to 75 in 8 districts of Shanghai were selected for analysis. χ2 test and multivariate logistic regression were used for statistical analysis of the influencing factors of CVD and aggregation of CVD.ResultsThe proportion of high-risk CVD individuals in the population was 19.17%， including the high-risk individuals with hypertension （8.65%）， dyslipidemia （6.33%）， CVD history （5.58%）， and WHO assessed risk ≥20% types （2.69%）， respectively. Old age， overweight and obesity， central obesity， smoking， drinking， farmers， unmarried， and low family income were the risk factors of CVD， while high education level was the protective factor. In the participants， 16 323 people （81.34%） were classified as CVD high-risk groups； The number of aggregation of 1， 2 and ≥3 high risk types of CVD were 16 323（81.34%）， 3 236（16.13%）， 509（2.54%）， respectively. Old age， low education level， low annual family income， farmers， unmarried， smoking， drinking， overweight， obesity and central obesity were associated with the risk of aggregation of high risk types of CVD， and the correlation strength increased with the increase of aggregation types.ConclusionThe prevention and control of CVD in Shanghai should focus on the hypertension， elderly， overweight， obesity， central obesity， smoking， drinking， low educated， low family income， farmers and unmarried people， and targeted intervention measures should be taken to reduce the risk of CVD among residents.

Abstract Necroptosis is a recently discovered apoptotic mechanism that has been linked to tumor formation, prognosis, and treatment response. However, the relationship between the TME and NRGs remains unclear. In this study, we analyzed the expression patterns of NRGs in 769 HNSCC cases from two distinct data sets. Our findings revealed distinct genetic groups and a correlation between patient clinical features, prognosis, TME cell infiltration characteristics, and NRG alterations. We then developed an NRG model to predict OS and confirmed its accuracy in predicting OS in HNSCC patients. Moreover, we have devised a precise nomogram that enhances the clinical utility of the NRG model substantially. The low-risk group had a better OS, and they were associated with immune suppression, more mutated genes, and higher TIDE scores. The risk score also had a significant correlation with the CSC index and susceptibility to anti-tumor agents. Our study provides insights into how NRGs affect prognosis, clinically significant features, TME, and immunotherapy response in HNSCC. With a better knowledge of NRGs in HNSCC, we could assess the prognosis and develop immunotherapy regimens that are more successful at opening up new doors.

Digitally enabled higher education involves the in-depth use of new-generation digital technology, which has subverted and innovated the traditional teaching mode, driven the development of high-quality teaching and learning, and improved teachers' teaching experience, and increased efficiency. Based on ecosystem theory, this paper constructs a higher education ecosystem with the government, enterprises, and universities as the core participating subjects. It considers the participating subjects' effort level and the ecosystem's overall benefits under the three scenarios of noncooperative research and development (R&D), cost sharing, and cooperative R&D. The results show that (1) the service innovation effort level of the three parties increases with increasing human resource level and technology maturity, and the government's benefit decreases with increasing cost of fulfilling social responsibility. (2) The government's cost subsidies to universities and enterprises can enhance the service innovation level of both parties and increase the optimal returns of the three parties and the ecosystem as a whole. (3) In the cooperative R&D game scenario, the effort level of the three parties and the total ecosystem returns are greater than those in the noncollaborative R&D scenario, and after determining the subsidy coefficients of the government, Pareto optimality of the three parties and the ecosystem as a whole can be achieved. The conclusions of this study can aid in understanding the dynamic evolution mechanism of digitally enabled higher education and provide a realistic decision-making reference for higher education ecosystem managers.

Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is a highly aggressive malignancy with rapid disease progression, easy recurrence in the short term and extremely poor prognosis. SCLC is recognized as a refractory disease by the National Cancer Institute. In recent years, immunotherapy has made breakthrough progress in the treatment of extensive stage SCLC (ES-SCLC) , based on IMpower133 and CASPIAN findings, atezolizumab combined with chemotherapy and durvalumab combined with chemotherapy both approved first-line treatment indications for ES-SCLC, opening a new era of immunotherapy for ES-SCLC. In this review, the clinical research progress and biomarkers of cytotoxic T lymphocyte antigen-4 (CTLA-4) inhibitors and programmed cell death-1 (PD-1) /programmed cell death ligand-1 (PD-L1) inhibitors for SCLC will be reviewed.

Abstract Obesity is an important risk factor for hypertension. We aimed to investigate the association between different obesity patterns and hypertension risk in a large male population in the US. Male participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) (2007–2018) were enrolled in this cross-sectional study. Social demographic information, lifestyle factors, anthropometric measurements and biochemical measurements were collected. Three obesity patterns were classified according to the body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC), including overweight and general obesity, abdominal obesity, and compound obesity. We adopted multivariate logistic regression to investigate the associations between hypertension and different obesity patterns after adjusting for cofounding factors. Subgroup analysis, stratified by age, smoking, drinking and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), was also conducted to explore the associations between obesity patterns and hypertension risk among different populations. Moreover, the association between WC and hypertension among male individuals was also explored using restricted cubic spline (RCS) analysis. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) was used to evaluate the discriminatory power of WC for screening hypertension risk. 13,859 male participants from NHANES survey (2007–2018) were enrolled. Comparing with the normal-weight group, the odds ratios (ORs) [95% confidence interval (CI)] for hypertension in individuals with overweight and general obesity, abdominal obesity and compound obesity were 1.41 [1.17–1.70], 1.97 [1.53–2.54] and 3.28 [2.70–3.99], respectively. Subgroup analysis showed that the effect of different obesity patterns on hypertension risk was highly stable among individuals with different clinical conditions. Checkpoint activation after DNA damage causes a transient cell cycle arrest by suppressing cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs). However, it remains largely elusive how cell cycle recovery is initiated after DNA damage. In this study, we discovered the upregulated protein level of MASTL kinase hours after DNA damage. MASTL promotes cell cycle progression by preventing PP2A/B55-catalyzed dephosphorylation of CDK substrates. DNA damage-induced MASTL upregulation was caused by decreased protein degradation, and was unique among mitotic kinases. We identified E6AP as the E3 ubiquitin ligase that mediated MASTL degradation. MASTL degradation was inhibited upon DNA damage as a result of the dissociation of E6AP from MASTL. E6AP depletion reduced DNA damage signaling, and promoted cell cycle recovery from the DNA damage checkpoint, in a MASTL-dependent manner. Furthermore, we found that E6AP was phosphorylated at Ser-218 by ATM after DNA damage and that this phosphorylation was required for its dissociation from MASTL, the stabilization of MASTL, and the timely recovery of cell cycle progression. Together, our data revealed that ATM/ATR-dependent signaling, while activating the DNA damage checkpoint, also initiates cell cycle recovery from the arrest. Consequently, this results in a timer-like mechanism that ensures the transient nature of the DNA damage checkpoint.

China’s chronic disease management suffers from problems such as unclear institutional function， insufficient information technology application， and weak regulation support. On the basis of current chronic disease management condition in China， this paper proposes to apply the concept of “people-centered” integrated health management to community chronic disease management and discusses the content and procedure of establishing an integrated community-based chronic disease management model driven by massive databases. The model innovatively combines technology integration， data integration and service integration， and can accurately and efficiently realize the "people-centered" full-course health management of various chronic diseases. Shanghai has provided integrated community-based chronic disease management service for 1.98 million citizens through applying this model. The model warrants further effectiveness and economic evaluation. This study provides precious experience for the development of chronic disease prevention and treatment in China.

Abstract Background Undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma (UPS) is considered one of the most common types of soft tissue sarcoma (STS). Current studies have shown that the prognosis of UPS is related to some of its clinical characteristics, but no survival prediction model for the overall survival (OS) of UPS patients has been reported. The purpose of this study is to construct and validate a nomogram for predicting OS in UPS patients at 3, 5 years after the diagnosis. Methods According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 1079 patients with UPS were screened from the SEER database and randomly divided into the training cohort (n = 755) and the validation cohort (n = 324). Patient demographic and clinicopathological characteristics were first described, and the correlation between the two groups was compared, using the Kaplan–Meier method and Cox regression analysis to determine independent prognostic factors. Based on the identified independent prognostic factors, a nomogram for OS in UPS patients was established using R language. The nomogram’s performance was then validated using multiple indicators, including the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), consistency index (C-index), calibration curve, and decision curve analysis (DCA). Results Both the C-index of the OS nomogram in the training cohort and the validation cohort were greater than 0 .75, and both the values of AUC were greater than 0.78. These four values were higher than their corresponding values in the TNM staging system, respectively. The calibration curves of the Nomogram prediction model and the TNM staging system were well fitted with the 45° line. Decision curve analysis showed that both the nomogram model and the TNM staging system had clinical net benefits over a wide range of threshold probabilities, and the nomogram had higher clinical net benefits than the TNM staging system as a whole. Conclusion With good discrimination, accuracy, and clinical practicability, the nomogram can individualize the prediction of 3-year and 5-year OS in patients with UPS, which can provide a reference for clinicians and patients to make better clinical decisions.

Abstract Etomidate has been advocated to be used in anesthesia for the elderly and the critically ill patients due to its faint effect on cardiovascular system. But the dose-dependent suppression of etomidate on adrenal cortex function leads to the limitation of its clinical application. Clinical research showed that dexmedetomidine could reduce the dose requirements for intravenous or inhalation anesthetics and opioids, and the hemodynamics was more stable during the operation. The objective was to observe the effect of etomidate combined with dexmedetomidine on adrenocortical function in elderly patients. 180 elderly patients scheduled for elective ureteroscopic holmium laser lithotripsy were randomly allocated to PR group anesthetized with propofol-remifentanil, ER group anesthetized with etomidate-remifentanil, and ERD group anesthetized with dexmedetomidine combined with etomidate-remifentanil. Patients in each group whose operation time was less than or equal to 1 h were incorporated into short time surgery group (PR1 group, ER1 group and ERD1 group), and whose surgical procedure time was more than 1 h were incorporated into long time surgery group (PR2 group, ER2 group and ERD2 group). The primary outcome was the serum cortisol and ACTH concentration. The secondary outcomes were the values of SBP, DBP, HR and SpO2, the time of surgical procedure, the dosage of etomidate and remifentanil administered during surgery, the time to spontaneous respiration, recovery and extubation, and the duration of stay in the PACU. Abstract Sharing in embryology and function between the eye and brain has led to interest in whether assessments of the eye reflect brain changes seen in neurodegeneration. We aimed to examine the associations between measures of retinal layer thickness using optical coherence tomography (OCT) and multimodal measures of brain structure and function. Using a convenient sample of twins discordant for type 2 diabetes, we performed cognitive testing, structural brain MRI (tissue volumetry), diffusion tensor imaging (white matter microstructure), and arterial spin labelling (cerebral blood flow). OCT images were recorded and retinal thickness maps generated. We used mixed level modelling to examine the relationship between retinal layer thicknesses and brain measures. We enrolled 35 people (18 pairs, mean age 63.8 years, 63% female). Ganglion cell layer thickness was positively associated with memory, speed, gray matter volume, and altered mean diffusivity. Ganglion cell layer thickness was strongly positively associated with regional cerebral blood flow. We found only a limited number of associations between other retinal layer thickness and measures of brain structure or function. Ganglion cell layer thickness showed consistent associations with a range of brain measures suggesting it may have utility as a marker for future dementia risk.

Objective To study the role of matrix vesicles bodies (MVBs) and interleukin-1β (IL-1β) in the vascular calcification of type 2 diabetic rats. Methods In vivo and in vitro vascular calcification models were developed by streptozotocin (STZ) plus vitamin D3 in rats with high-fat diet and β-glycerophosphate and high-glucose medium in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs), respectively. Calcium deposition was detected by PET/CT, Von Kossa staining or alizarin red S staining. The expression of runt-related transcription factor 2 (RUNX 2), annexin-Ⅵ and IL-1β were detected by immunofluorescence staining, real-time quantitative PCR or Western blot. Results The aortic artery of calcified rats and the in vitro VSMCs both showed obvious calcium deposits. Compared to the control group, the expressions of bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) and RUNX 2 significantly increased in the calcification group (P＜0.01, P＜0.05). At the same time, the expression of annexin-Ⅵ and IL-1β was also significantly up-regulated (P＜0.01, P＜0.05) and there was a co-localization between them. Rapamycin reduced expression of RUNX-2, annexin-Ⅵ and IL-1β in the calcification group (P＜0.01). After the treatment of chloroquine, the expression of RUNX 2 weas slightly up-regulated and annexin-Ⅵ was high-expressed(P＜0.01). Conclusions Autophagy reduces the release of MVBs and the expression of inflammatory factor IL-1β and so thereby reduces aortic calcification in type 2 diabetic rats.

Objective To investigate the role of autophagy in the hypoxia-reoxygenation (H/R) model of rat alveolar epithelial cell type Ⅱ (AEC Ⅱ). Methods Cells were randomly divided into control group (C),hypoxia-reoxygenation group (H/R),solvent group (HD),autophagy agonist group(Rap) and autophagy inhibitor group (3-MA).Pretreated cells with 3-mA 1h before hypoxia. The cell viability was determined with CCK-8, and used RT-PCR, Western blot to detect the expression of autophagy related mRNA transmission and its proteins, and ultrastructure of cell was examined by electron microscopy. Results Compared to the C group, the cell viability decreased, the expression of autophagy related proteins and gene transcription increased, and the cell ultra-structure was significantly damaged (P＜0.05). The cell viability in 3-MA group was higher than that of H/R group, the autophagy related proteins and their gene transcription were all decreased (P＜0.05), the cell structure was damaged slightly,and autophagy body was not found. Conclusions Hypoxia-reoxygenation can activate autophagy and induce alveolar epithelial cell type Ⅱ damage.

The impact of short-term nitrogen fertilizer input on the structure and diversity of peanut rhizosphere microbiota (RM) at different growth stages (GSs) was explored in the southern paddy soil planting environment. Three levels of nitrogen were applied in the field: control (LN, 0 kg/hm2), medium nitrogen (MN, 55.68 kg/hm2), and high nitrogen (HN, 111.36 kg/hm2). The rhizosphere soil was collected during four GSs for high-throughput sequencing and chemical properties analysis. The effect of nitrogen fertilizer application on peanut RM was minimal and was obvious only at the seedling stage. In the four peanut GSs, a significant increase in relative abundance was observed for only one operational taxonomic unit (OTU) of Nitrospira under HN conditions at the seedling stage and mature stage, while there was no consistent change in other OTUs. The difference in RM among different peanut GSs was greater than that caused by the amount of nitrogen fertilizer. This may be due to the substantial differences in soil chemical properties (especially alkali-hydrolyzable nitrogen, pH, and available potassium or total potassium) among peanut GSs, as these significantly affected the RM structure. These results are of great value to facilitate deeper understanding of the effect of nitrogen fertilizer on peanut RM structure.

Objective To identify factors and assess to what extent they impact the magnitude of the treatment effect of acupuncture therapies across therapeutic areas.Data source Medline, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Database, VIP Database, and China Biology Medicine disc, between 2015 and 2019.Study selection The inclusion criteria were trials with a total number of randomised patients larger than 100, at least one patient-important outcome and one of two sets of comparisons.Data analysis The potential independent variables were identified by reviewing relevant literature and consulting with experts. We conducted meta-regression analyses with standardised mean difference (SMD) as effect estimate for the dependent variable. The analyses included univariable meta-regression and multivariable meta-regression using a three-level robust mixed model.Results 1304 effect estimates from 584 acupuncture randomised controlled trials (RCTs) were analysed. The multivariable analyses contained 15 independent variables . In the multivariable analysis, the following produced larger treatment effects of large magnitude (>0.4): quality of life (difference of adjusted SMDs 0.51, 95% CI 0.24 to 0.77), or pain (0.48, 95% CI 0.27 to 0.69), or function (0.41, 95% CI 0.21 to 0.61) vs major events. The following produced larger treatment effects of moderate magnitude (0.2–0.4): single-centred vs multicentred RCTs (0.38, 95% CI 0.10 to 0.66); penetration acupuncture vs non-penetration types of acupuncture (0.34, 95% CI 0.15 to 0.53); non-pain symptoms vs major events (0.32, 95% CI 0.12 to 0.52). Abstract. Background:. Texture analysis (TA) can quantify intra-tumor heterogeneity using standard medical images. The present study aimed to assess the application of positron emission tomography (PET) TA in the differential diagnosis of gastric cancer and gastric lymphoma. Methods:. The pre-treatment PET images of 79 patients (45 gastric cancer, 34 gastric lymphoma) between January 2013 and February 2018 were retrospectively reviewed. The differences in features among different groups were analyzed by the two-way Mann-Whitney test, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was used to estimate the diagnostic efficacy. Results:. InertiaGLCM was significantly lower in gastric cancer than that in gastric lymphoma (4975.61 vs. 11,425.30, z = −3.238, P = 0.001), and it was found to be the most discriminating texture feature in differentiating gastric lymphoma and gastric cancer. The area under the curve (AUC) of inertiaGLCM was higher than the AUCs of SUVmax and SUVmean (0.714 vs. 0.649 and 0.666, respectively). SUVmax and SUVmean were significantly lower in low-grade gastric lymphoma than those in high grade gastric lymphoma (3.30 vs. 11.80, 2.40 vs. 7.50, z = −2.792 and −3.007, P = 0.005 and 0.003, respectively). SUVs and first-order grey-level intensity features were not significantly different between low-grade gastric lymphoma and gastric cancer. EntropyGLCM12 was significantly lower in low-grade gastric lymphoma than that in gastric cancer (6.95 vs. 9.14, z = −2.542, P = 0.011) and had an AUC of 0.770 in the ROC analysis of differentiating low-grade gastric lymphoma and gastric cancer. Conclusions:. InertiaGLCM and entropyGLCM were the most discriminating features in differentiating gastric lymphoma from gastric cancer and low-grade gastric lymphoma from gastric cancer, respectively. PET TA can improve the differential diagnosis of gastric neoplasms, especially in tumors with similar degrees of fluorodeoxyglucose uptake.

Objectives: To investigate the characteristics of spatial changes in molars and alveolar bone resorption among patients with loss of mandibular first molars. Methods: A total of 42 CBCT scans of patients with missing mandibular first molars (3 males, 33 females) and 42 CBCT scans of control subjects without loss of mandibular first molars (9 males, 27 females) were evaluated in this cross-sectional study. All images were standardized using the mandibular posterior tooth plane with Invivo software. The following indices regarding alveolar bone morphology were measured, including alveolar bone height, bone width, mesiodistal and buccolingual angulation of molars, overeruption of maxillary first molars, bone defects, and the capability of molar mesialization. Results: The vertical alveolar bone height in the missing group was reduced by 1.42 ± 0.70 mm, 1.31 ± 0.68, and 1.46 ± 0.85 mm on the buccal, middle, and lingual side, respectively (no differences among the three sides; p > 0.05). Alveolar bone width was reduced the greatest at the buccal CEJ level and the least at the lingual apex level. Mandibular second molar mesial tipping (with mean of the mesiodistal angulation = 57.47 ± 10.34°) and lingual tipping (with mean of the buccolingual angulation = 71.75 ± 8.34°) were observed. The mesial and distal cusps of maxillary first molars were extruded by 1.37 mm and 0.85 mm, respectively. Buccal and lingual defects of alveolar bone occurred at the CEJ, mid-root, and apex levels. Through 3D simulation, the second molar cannot be successfully mesialized into the missing tooth position, and the difference between the available and required distances for mesialization was the greatest at the CEJ level. The duration of tooth loss was significantly correlated with the mesio-distal angulation (R = −0.726, p < 0.001), buccal-lingual angulation (R = −0.528, p < 0.001) and the extrusion of the maxillary first molar (R = −0.334, p < 0.05). Conclusion: Both vertical and horizontal resorption of alveolar bone occurred. Mandibular second molars exhibit mesial and lingual tipping. Lingual root torque and uprighting of the second molars are needed for the success of molar protraction. Bone augmentation is indicated for severely resorbed alveolar bone.

Spherical equivalent refraction (SE) of the children (aged 6–14) in China was assessed with cycloplegic autorefraction in a two-year longitudinal study. The parents’ background information and myopia-related cognition were collected by questionnaires. Results. Objective To summarize the research trend with numerous publications on patient safety during the past 10 years and find out recent hot spot in this field. Methods Four thousands publications for the past 10 years focusing on patient safety were selected in the citation database of Web of Science. Bibliometric and visualization software named Citespace was utilized for co-existence analysis and burstness detection in analyzing key words and cited references. Results Organizations distributed in developed countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom accounts for the majority of publications. The most frequent key words in the research field of patient safety were care, adverse event, health care, error, quality etc. Newly emerged burstness turned to attitude question naire, experience, knowledge and patient safety culture etc. Conclusions A wide and in-depth series of studies in patient safety has been carried out from 2009 to 2019 especially in developed countries with a hot spot on patient safety culture. More studies from Chinese researchers on patient safety are warranted to form China's own experience.

The BMI1 protein, a member of the PRC1 family, is a well recognised transcriptional suppressor and has the capability of maintaining the self-renewal and proliferation of tissue-specific stem cells. Numerous studies have established that BMI1 is highly expressed in a variety of malignant cancers and serves as a key regulator in the tumorigenesis process. However, our understanding of BMI1 in terminally differentiated organs, such as the heart, is relatively nascent. Importantly, emerging data support that, beyond the tumor, BMI1 is also expressed in the heart tissue and indeed exerts profound effects in various cardiac pathological conditions. This review gives a summary of the novel functions of BMI1 in the heart, including BMI1-positive cardiac stem cells and BMI1-mediated signaling pathways, which are involved in the response to various cardiac pathological stimuli. Besides, we summarize the recent progress of BMI1 in some novel and rapidly developing cardiovascular therapies. Furtherly, we highlight the properties of BMI1, a therapeutic target proved effective in cancer treatment, as a promising target to alleviate cardiovascular diseases.

Roof greening is an important national policy for maintaining the hydrological balance in China; however, plant growth is limited by drought stress. This study aims to identify strong drought resistant plant species for roof greening from ten common species: Paeonia lactiflora, Hemerocallis dumortieri, Meehania urticifolia, Iris lactea var. chinensis, Hylotelephium erythrostictum, Sedum lineare, Iris germanica, Cosmos bipinnata, Hosta plantaginea, and Dianthus barbatus. By controlling the soil relative water content (RWC), we designed three treatments: moderate drought stress (40±2% < RWC < 45±2%), severe drought stress (RWC < 30±2%) and well-watered control (RWC > 75±2%). After the seedlings were provided different levels of water, their membrane permeability (MP), chlorophyll concentration (Chl), and superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD) and ascorbate peroxidase (APX) activity were measured. Finally, the membership function method was used to assess the drought resistance of these species. The results showed that C. bipinnata and M. urticifolia were not suitable for moderate or severe drought stress and did not survive. The other species presented variations in physiological and biochemical parameters. The MP of He. dumortieri, I. lactea and Ho. plantaginea showed minor changes between the well-watered control and drought stress. Most of the species showed reduced SOD activity under moderate drought stress but increased activity under severe stress. All of the plant species showed decreases in the protective enzymes POD and APX with increasing drought stress. The membership function method was applied to calculate the plant species' drought resistance, and the following order of priority of the roof-greening plant species was suggested: He. dumortieri > I. germanica > I. lactea > D. barbatus > Hy. erythrostictum > S. lineare > Ho. plantaginea > P. lactiflora.

A large body of research has found that people’s beliefs in conspiracy theories about infectious diseases negatively impacts their health behaviors concerning vaccination. Conspiracy belief-based vaccination hesitancy has become more rampant after the global outbreak of COVID-19. However, some important questions remain unanswered. For instance, do different versions of conspiracy theories—particularly conspiracy theories about the origin of the epidemic (e.g., that the SARS-CoV-2 leaked from a Wuhan virology laboratory or that the virus was of foreign origin) and the general theories about vaccine conspiracies (e.g., pharmaceutical companies covered up the danger of vaccines or people are being deceived about the effectiveness of vaccines)—have the same effect on vaccination intentions? Through a national survey adopting quota sampling in China, the current study tested the relationship between people’s conspiracy beliefs and their intention to receive the COVID-19 vaccination. The findings show that people’s embrace of conspiracy theories did indeed affect their intention to take COVID-19 shots. However, only conspiracy theories related to vaccines had a significant impact, while belief in more general theories about COVID-19 did not significantly affect vaccination intentions. People’s knowledge of vaccines (vaccine literacy) played an important role in this relationship. People with lower beliefs in vaccines conspiracy theories and higher levels of vaccine literacy were more likely to receive the COVID-19 vaccination.

Abstract Dark state as a consequence of interference between different quantum states has great importance in the fields of chip-scale atomic clock and quantum information. For the Λ-type three-level system, this dark state is generally regarded as being dissipation-free because it is a superposition of two lowest states without dipole transition between them. However, previous studies are based on the rotating-wave approximation (RWA) by neglecting the counter-rotating terms in the system-environment interaction. In this work, we study non-Markovian quantum dynamics of the dark state in a Λ-type three-level system coupled to two bosonic baths and reveal the effect of counter-rotating terms on the dark state. In contrast to the dark state within the RWA, leakage of the dark state occurs even at zero temperature, as a result of these counter-rotating terms. Also, we present a method to restore the quantum coherence of the dark state by applying a leakage elimination operator to the system.

Background: Although that glomerulonephritis is the major cause of end-stage renal disease in developing countries such as China, the increasing prevalence of diabetes has contributed to the changing spectrum of predialysis chronic kidney disease. Recent studies have revealed an increased proportion of patients with diabetic kidney disease (DKD) in hemodialysis populations in large cities in China. However, studies regarding the clinical phenotype of DKD in China are extremely limited. The incidence, development, and prognosis of diabetic kidney disease (INDEED) study aims to investigate the incidence, progression, and prognosis of DKD, as well as the associated genetic, behavioral, and environmental factors and biomarkers in patients with DKD in China. Methods: INDEED study is a prospective cohort study based on all participants with diabetes in the Kailuan study, which is a general population-based cohort study in northern China. Altogether, over 10,000 participants with diabetes will be followed biennially. Questionnaires documenting general characteristics, behavioral and environmental factors, and medical history will be administrated. Anthropometric measurements and a series of laboratory tests will be performed in one central laboratory. The DNA, plasma, and urine samples of every participant will be stored in a biobank for future research. Conclusions: INDEED study will provide essential information regarding the clinical phenotype and prognosis of patients with DKD in China and will be valuable to identify factors and biomarkers associated with patients with DKD in China.

The recent availability of digital traces generated by cellphone calls has significantly increased the scientific understanding of human mobility. Until now, however, based on low time resolution measurements, previous works have ignored to study human mobility under various time scales due to sparse and irregular calls, particularly in the era of mobile Internet. In this paper, we introduced Mobile Flow Records, flow-level data access records of online activity of smartphone users, to explore human mobility. Mobile Flow Records collect high-resolution information of large populations. By exploiting this kind of data, we show the models and statistics of human mobility at a large-scale (3,542,235 individuals) and finer-granularity (7.5min). Next, we investigated statistical variations and biases of mobility models caused by different time scales (from 7.5min to 32h), and found that the time scale does influence the mobility model, which indicates a deep coupling of human mobility and time. We further show that mobility behaviors like transportation modes contribute to the diversity of human mobility, by exploring several novel and refined features (e.g., motion speed, duration, and trajectory distance). Particularly, we point out that 2-hour sampling adopted in previous works is insufficient to study detailed motion behaviors. Our work not only offers a macroscopic and microscopic view of spatial-temporal human mobility, but also applies previously unavailable features, both of which are beneficial to the studies on phenomena driven by human mobility.

Quality of life is an important outcome indicator to evaluate whether treatment is successful or not. Chronic gastritis leads to ongoing deterioration of subjectively perceived quality of life. There are several generic measures, but they are not developed particularly to assess chronic gastritis problems. The Quality of Life Instruments for Chronic Diseases-Chronic Gastritis (QLICD-CG V2.0) questionnaire is a 39-item, multi-dimensional, self-report instrument to assess chronic gastritis patients' perception of their health related quality of life in four domains. The instrument was developed in China. The current study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the QLICD-CG V2.0. 194 patients with chronic gastritis were enrolled from 4 hospitals in China. The QLICD-CG V2.0 was administered to patients by trained research assistants. In addition, their demographic characteristics were also recorded. The psychometric testing included construct validity, convergent validity, discriminant validity, test-retest, and responsiveness. The results showed good internal consistency and acceptable floor and ceiling effects (Cronbach's alpha range from 0.80 to 0.93). CFA showed that the instrument structure has a reasonable fitness (RMSEA = 0.063, 95%CI = [0.057 0.079], CFI = 0.93, GFI = 0.95, SRMR = 0.028). The convergent validity was considered appropriate, with 38 of the 39 items correlated stronger with their assigned scale than a competing scale, except for GPS1. Known groups comparisons showed that the QLICD-CG V2.0 discriminated well between subgroups on the basis of gender, marriage status, and economy status, thus providing evidence of discriminative validity. Convergent validity testing revealed that the QLICD-CG V2.0 domain scores correlated significantly with SF-36 dimension scores, which ranged from 0.21 to 0.58. Test-retest coefficients were satisfactory. A majority of intraclass correlation coefficients were above 0.70, except the psychological domain (0.60) and the items of social support/security (0.61). Responsiveness was tested on 157 patients. Significant differences were found on all QLICD-CG V2.0 domains, between baseline responses and after a treatment, except for the items of appetite and sleep. Robust sensitivity to change was observed. The QLICD-CG V2.0 appears to be a valid and reliable instrument to measure QOL in chronic gastritis patients. Scores were reproducible.
