The systematic review proposed in this pre-registration will examine published and grey literature surrounding the phenomena known as “Strange-Face” illusions (Caputo, 2010). This review is unique in that it focusses specifically on evaluating the literature relating to SF illusions from a contemporary cognitive neuroscience / perceptual theory perspective. To the authors’ knowledge this is the first independent review focussing on this particular area of interest since the original study describing the emergence of this phenomena, under mild sensory deprivation conditions, was first published by Caputo in 2010.
