TSC renal cystic disease is poorly understood and has no approved treatment. In a new principal cell-targeted murine model of Tsc cystic disease, the renal cystic epithelium is mostly composed of type A intercalated cells with an intact Tsc2 gene confirmed by sequencing, although these cells exhibit a Tsc-mutant disease phenotype. We used a newly derived targeted murine model in lineage tracing and extracellular vesicle (EV) characterization experiments and a cell culture model in EV characterization and cellular induction experiments to understand TSC cystogenesis. Using lineage tracing experiments, we found principal cells undergo clonal expansion but contribute very few cells to the cyst. We determined that cystic kidneys contain more interstitial EVs than noncystic kidneys, excrete fewer EVs in urine, and contain EVs in cyst fluid. Moreover, the loss of the Tsc2 gene in EV-producing cells greatly changes the effect of EVs on renal tubular epithelium, such that the epithelium develops increased secretory and proliferative pathway activity. We demonstate that the mTORC1 pathway activity is independent form the EV production, and that the EV effects for a single cell line can vary significantly. TSC cystogenesis involves significant contribution from genetically intact cells conscripted to the mutant phenotype by mutant cell derived EVs.

Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is associated with TSC1 or TSC2 gene mutations resulting in hyperactivation of the mTORC1 pathway. This mTORC1 activation is associated with abnormal tissue development and proliferation such that in the kidney there are both solid tumors and cystic lesions. This review summarizes recent advances in tuberous sclerosis complex nephrology and focuses on the genetics and cell biology of tuberous sclerosis complex renal disease, highlighting a role of extracellular vesicles and the innate immune system in disease pathogenesis.

Aim: To determine the prevalence, genetic characteristics, current management and outcomes of familial hypercholesterolaemia (FH) in the Gulf region. Methods: Adult (18-70 years) FH patients were recruited from 9 hospitals and centres across 5 Arabian Gulf countries. The study was divided into 4 phases and included patients from 3 different categories. In phase 1, suspected FH patients (category 1) were collected according to the lipid profile and clinical data obtained through hospital record systems. In phase 2, patients from category 2 (patients with a previous clinical diagnosis of FH) and category 1 were stratified into definitive, probable and possible FH according to the Dutch Lipid Clinic Network criteria. In phase 3, 500 patients with definitive and probable FH from categories 1 and 2 will undergo genetic testing for 4 common FH genes. In phase 4, these 500 patients with another 100 patients from category 3 (patients with previous genetic diagnosis of FH) will be followed for 1 year to evaluate clinical management and cardiovascular outcomes. The Gulf FH cohort was screened from a total of 34,366 patients attending out-patient clinics. Results: The final Gulf FH cohort consisted of 3,317 patients (mean age: 47±12 years, 54% females). The number of patients with definitive FH is 203. In this initial phase of the study, the prevalence of (probable and definite) FH is 1/232. Conclusion: The prevalence of FH in the adult population of the Arabian Gulf region is high. The Gulf FH registry, a first-of-a-kind multi-national study in the Middle East region, will help in improving underdiagnosis and undertreatment of FH in the region.

BACKGROUND: PTRHD1 was proposed as a disease‐causing gene of intellectual disability, spasticity, and parkinsonism. OBJECTIVES: To characterize the clinical phenotype and the molecular cause of intellectual disability in four affected individuals of a consanguineous family. METHODS: Clinical evaluation, whole‐exome sequencing, Sanger sequencing, reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (PCR), real‐time PCR, immunoblot, and isoelectric focusing. RESULTS: A homozygous 28‐nucleotide frameshift deletion introducing a premature stop codon in the PTRHD1 exon 1 was identified in the four affected members. We further confirmed the apparent transcript escape of the nonsense‐mediated messenger RNA (mRNA) decay pathway. Real‐time PCR showed that mRNA expression of the mutant PTRHD1 is higher compared to the wild‐type. Western blotting and isoelectric focusing identified a truncated, but stable mutant PTRHD1 protein expressed in the patient's primary cells. CONCLUSIONS: We provide further evidence that PTRHD1 mutations are associated with autosomal‐recessive childhood‐onset intellectual disability associated with spasticity and parkinsonism.

Objectives: Although typically considered a condition affecting children, scientific evidence has shown that 30–50% of those diagnosed with ADHD in childhood continue to suffer from this condition after the age of 18. This study sought to address the gap in the literature, and to describe the socio-demographic and clinical characteristics of ADHD patients in a sample of adult patients attending an outpatient clinic at a tertiary care hospital in Oman, and to evaluate their association with the different subtypes of the disorder. Methods: Data from adult patients with ADHD from the outpatient clinic at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital (SQUH), Muscat, Oman, were retrospectively collected from medical records from January 2018 to April 2020. Socio-demographic characteristics, clinical profiles and psychiatric co morbidities were examined. Results: This study included 100 adults who fulfilled the standard diagnosis of ADHD, with 54% (n=54), and 46% (n=46) from the inattentive and combined subtypes, respectively. It was found that ADHD was more prevalent among males (64.0%) compared to females (36%), with the inattentive subtype being more predominant among females. The ADHD patients with the inattentive subtype were associated with co-morbid substance use disorders (OR=11.29, P = 0.049), personality disorders (OR=7.96, P = 0.017), and major depressive disorder (OR=15.94, P = 0.002) compared to patients with the predominantly combined subtype. Conclusion: This study from Oman echoes the findings from the current literature, that adult patients with ADHD commonly have co-morbid psychiatric disorders, leading to significant functional impairment. Psychiatric co-morbidities must be identified and urgently treated, to allow for better clinical and functional outcomes in adult patients with ADHD. Ovarian cancer (OC) is characterized by a high morbidity and mortality, highlighting a great need for a better understanding of biological mechanisms that affect OC progression and improving its early detection methods. This study investigates effects of prolactin (PRL) on ovarian cancer cells, analyzes PRL receptors (PRLR) in tissue micro arrays and relates PRLR expression to survival of ovarian cancer. A database, composed of transcript profiles from OC, was searched for PRLR expression and results were put in relation to survival. Expression of PRLR in OC tissue sections and OC cell lines SKOV3, OV2008 and OVSAHO was assessed using immunohistochemistry, western blots and quantitative real-time PCR. The biological function of PRLR was evaluated by proliferation, colony formation and wound healing assays. Levels of PRLR mRNA are related to survival; in epithelial OC a high PRLR mRNA expression is related to a shorter survival. Analysis of a tissue micro array consisting of 84 OC showed that 72% were positive for PRLR immuno-staining. PRLR staining tended to be higher in OC of high grade tumors compared to lower grades. PRLR mRNA and protein can further be detected in OC cell lines. Moreover, in vitro treatment with PRL significantly activated the JAK/STAT pathway. PRLR expression is associated with OC survivals. PRL and its receptor may play an onco-modulatory role and promote tumor aggressiveness in OC. Alternatively, increased PRLR levels may form a base for the development of PRLR antagonist or PRLR antagonist-drug conjugate to increase selective uptake of anti-cancer drugs.

Background and aims Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is a common autosomal dominant disorder that can result in premature atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Limited data are available worldwide about the prevalence and management of FH. Here, we aimed to estimate the prevalence and management of patients with FH in five Arabian Gulf countries (Saudi Arabia, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Bahrain). Methods The multicentre, multinational Gulf FH registry included adults (≥18 years old) recruited from outpatient clinics in 14 tertiary-care centres across five Arabian Gulf countries over the last five years. The Gulf FH registry had four phases: 1- screening, 2- classification based on the Dutch Lipid Clinic Network, 3- genetic testing, and 4- follow-up. Results Among 34,366 screened patient records, 3713 patients had suspected FH (mean age: 49±15 years; 52% women) and 306 patients had definite or probable FH. Thus, the estimated FH prevalence was 0.9% (1:112). Treatments included high-intensity statin therapy (34%), ezetimibe (10%), and proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 inhibitors (0.4%). Targets for low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol were achieved by 12% and 30%, respectively, of patients at high ASCVD risk, and by 3% and 6%, respectively, of patients at very high ASCVD risk (p Conclusions This snap-shot study was the first to show the high estimated prevalence of FH in the Arabian Gulf region (about 3-fold the estimated prevalence worldwide), and is a “call-to-action” for further confirmation in future population studies. The small proportions of patients that achieved target LDL-C values implied that health care policies need to implement nation-wide screening, raise FH awareness, and improve management strategies for FH.

Background The development of anti-cancer drugs with the ability to inhibit brain metastasis through the blood-brain barrier (BBB) is substantially limited due to the lack of reliable in vitro models. Main methods In this study, the Geltrex™-based Transwell® and microfluidic BBB models were applied to screen the effect of β-boswellic acid (β-BA) on the metastasis of MDA-MB-231 cells through the BBB in static and dynamic conditions, respectively. Major results The toxicity assay revealed that β-BA deteriorates MDA-MB-231 cells, while β-BA had no detectable toxic effects on human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and astrocytes. Trans-endothelial electrical resistance evaluation showed sustainable barrier integrity upon treatment with β-BA. Vimentin expression in HUVECs, evaluated using western blot, confirmed superior barrier integrity in the presence of β-BA. The obtained results were confirmed using an invasion study with a cell tracker and a scanning electron microscope. β-BA significantly inhibited metastasis by 85%, while cisplatin (Cis), a positive control, inhibited cancer cell migration by 12% under static conditions. Upon applying a dynamic BBB model, it was revealed that β-BA-mediated metastasis inhibition was significantly higher than that mediated by Cis. Conclusions and implications In summary, the current study proved the anti-metastatic potential of β-BA in both static and dynamic BBB models. This article is protected by copyright. In this study, we investigated components of prolactin (Prl) system in cell models of GBM and in histological tissue sections obtained from GBM patients. Expression of Prolactin receptor (PrlR) was detected at high levels in U251-MG, at low levels in U87-MG and barely detectable in U373 cell lines and in 66% of brain tumor tissues from 32 GBM patients by immunohistochemical technique. In addition, stimulation of U251-MG and U87-MG cells but not U373 with Prl resulted in increased STAT5 phosphorylation and only in U251-MG cells with increased cellular invasion. Furthermore, STAT5 phosphorylation and cellular invasion induced in Prl stimulated cells were significantly reduced by using a Prl receptor antagonist that consists of Prl with four amino acid replacements. We conclude that Prl receptor is expressed at different levels in the majority of GBM tumors and that blocking of PrlR in U251-MG cells significantly reduce cellular invasion.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is an immunologically mediated chronic intestinal disorder. Growth hormone (GH) administration enhances mucosal repair and decreases intestinal fibrosis in patients with IBD. In the present study, we investigated the effect of cellular sensitivity to GH via suppressor of cytokine signaling 2 (SOCS2) deletion on colitis and recovery. To induce colitis, wild type and SOCS2 knockout (SOCS2&minus, /&minus, ) mice were treated with 3% dextran sodium sulphate (DSS), followed by a recovery period. SOCS2&minus, mice showed higher disease activity during colitis with increased mRNA expression of the pro-inflammatory cytokines nitric oxide synthase 2 (NOS2) and interleukin 1 &beta, (IL1-&beta, ). At recovery time point, SOCS2&minus, showed better recovery with less fibrosis measured by levels of &alpha, SMA and collagen deposition. Protein and mRNA expressions of transforming growth factor beta &beta, 1 (TGF-&beta, 1) receptors were significantly lower in SOCS2&minus, mice compared to wild-type littermates. Using an in vivo bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) proliferation assay, SOCS2&minus, mice showed higher intestinal epithelial proliferation compared to wild-type mice. Our results demonstrated that deletion of the SOCS2 protein results in higher growth hormone sensitivity associated with higher pro-inflammatory signaling, however, it resulted in less tissue damage with less fibrotic lesions and higher epithelial proliferation, which are markers of GH-protective effects in IBD. This suggests a pleiotropic effect of SOCS2 and multiple cellular targets. Further study is required to study role of SOCS2 in regulation of TGF&beta, mothers against the decapentaplegic homolog (Smad) pathway.

Recently, with the advancement in next generation sequencing (NGS) along with the improvement of bioinformatics tools, whole exome sequencing (WES) has become the most efficient diagnostic test for patients with intellectual disability (ID). This study aims to estimate the yield of a reanalysis of ID negative exome cases after data reannotation. Total of 50 data files of exome sequencing, representing 50 samples were collected. The inclusion criteria include ID phenotype, and previous analysis indicated a negative result (no abnormality detected). These files were pre-processed and reannotated using ANNOVAR tool. Prioritized variants in the 50 cases studied were classified into three groups, (1) disease-causative variants (2) possible disease-causing variants and (3) variants in novel genes. Reanalysis resulted in the identification of pathogenic/likely pathogenic variants in six cases (12%). Thirteen cases (26%) were classified as having possible disease-causing variants. Candidate genes requiring future functional studies were detected in seven cases (14%). Improvement in bioinformatics tools, update in the genetic databases and literature, and patients' clinical phenotype update were the main reasons for identification of these variants in this study.

[Background]: Diabetes type 1 is characterized by the failure of beta cells to produce insulin. Suppressor of cytokine signaling (SOCS) proteins are important regulators of the Janus kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription (JAK-STAT) pathway. Previous studies have shown that GH can prevent the development of type I diabetes in mice and that SOCS2 deficiency mimics a state of increased GH sensitivity. [Methodology]: The elevated sensitivity of SOCS2 mice to GH and possibly to PRL was the rationale to analyze the effects of multiple low dose streptozotocin (MLDSTZ)-induced diabetes in SOCS2 mice. [Results]: We show that 6-month-old SOCS2 mice, but not 2-month-old mice, were less sensitive to MLDSTZ-induced diabetes, compared to controls. MLDSTZ treatment induced glucose intolerance in both SOCS2 and SOCS2 mice, as shown by glucose tolerance tests, with SOCS2 mice showing a more marked intolerance, compared to SOCS2 mice. Furthermore, insulin tolerance tests showed that the SOCS2 mice have an improved hypoglycemic response to exogenous insulin, compared to SOCS2 mice. Moreover, in isolated islets, lipotoxic effects on insulin release could partly be overcome by ligands, which bind to GH or PRL receptors. [Conclusion]: Knockdown of SOCS2 makes mice less sensitive to MLDSTZ. These results are consistent with the proposal that elimination of SOCS2 in pancreatic islets creates a state of β-cell hypersensitivity to GH/PRL that mimics events in pregnancy, and which is protective against MLDSTZ-induced type I diabetes in mice. This study examined the utility of a family-based model for replicating the results of genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of type 2 diabetes (T2D).In a total of 232 members of a large consanguineous Omani Arab pedigree (age: 16-80years), there were 27 diabetics and 50 prediabetics (17 with impaired fasting glucose and 33 with impaired glucose tolerance). All 232 individuals underwent anthropometric and biochemical investigations and genotyped for 14 known common gene variants of modest effect on T2D risk. Power analysis at a LOD score of 3, gave 80% power to locate a single specific locus that accounts for 52% of the total phenotypic variation. Measured genotype analysis (MGA) was used to determine heritability of various quantitative traits (QTs) which ranged 25-56%. Using MGA, some common gene variants were found to have little (5%) but significant impact on the heritability of T2D related QTs [KCNJ11 (rs5219), p=0.004]; [IGF2BP2 (rs4402960), p=0.02]; [SLC30A8 (rs13266634), p=0.05]; [CAPN10 (rs2975760), p=0.031]; [FTO (rs8050136), p=0.023]; [FTO (rs9939609), p=0.018] and [SLC30A8 (rs13266634), p=0.05]. Sib-TDT analysis showed that some gene variants were significantly associated with T2D risk but didn't reach the level of significance after Bonferroni correction [KCNJ11 (rs5219), p=0.047] and [CAPN10 (rs41266971), p=0.035].We have demonstrated that, in principle, a family-based model with minor limitations could be used to replicate some of the results of large GWAS case-control studies. This model could successfully be applied for the future discovery, by deep sequencing, of rare gene variants.

Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a tumor predisposition syndrome with significant renal cystic and solid tumor disease. While the most common renal tumor in TSC, the angiomyolipoma, exhibits a loss of heterozygosity associated with disease, we have discovered that the renal cystic epithelium is composed of type A intercalated cells that have an intact Tsc gene that have been induced to exhibit Tsc‐mutant disease phenotype. This mechanism appears to be different than that for ADPKD. The murine models described here closely resemble the human disease and both appear to be mTORC1 inhibitor responsive. The induction signaling driving cystogenesis may be mediated by extracellular vesicle trafficking.

Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are essential elements of the innate immune response to different infections including the infection with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in TLRs such as TLR4 1063A/G and 1363C/T have been found to be associated with changes in CD4 count, viral load (VL), and disease progression during HIV infection. However, the association of these SNPs with the pathogenesis during HIV infection is controversial. We investigated the frequency of TLR4 1063A/G and 1363C/T SNPs in 168 Omani donors [68 HIV-infected patients (>3% of Omani HIV-infected patients) and 100 healthy controls] and the association of these SNPs with the VL, CD8 and CD4 counts, and the immune recovery after cART as observed by CD4 T cell increase. SNPs were analyzed after the amplification of the regions that contain them by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and sequencing of the PCR products. The TLR4 1063GG genotype was detected in the HIV-infected group only. No association was found between the studied SNPs and the average VL during 1 year of infection, the average CD4 and CD8 count during 1 year of viremia, the nadir CD4 count, the CD4 count when the patient reached VL < 50 copies/mL due to cART, and the ratio of the CD4 count 3 and 6 months after reaching VL < 50 copies/mL after cART to the last CD4 count before reaching VL < 50 copies/mL. Our study suggests that TLR4 (1063A/G and 1363C/T) SNPs have no association with the VL or the CD4 and CD8 counts during HIV infection.

Objective Globally obesity has reached epidemic proportions with alarming rates in the Arabian Gulf countries. The impact of behavioral eating habits and in particular night eating syndrome (NES) have not been emphasized in the region. This study assessed the proportion of NES in an Omani Arab adult population sample. Method A night eating syndrome questionnaire (NEQ) was distributed to Omani adults above the age of 20. Results Out of the 454 respondents, 26.4 % endorsed evening hyperphagia while nocturnal ingestion was present in 4.7 % of the respondents. In addition, 1.5 % of the respondents met the NES criteria. Conclusions and implications The proportion of NES in Omani adult population is similar to the reported rates in general world populations. In conclusion, night eating syndrome is present in the Omani Arab adults and should be taken into account in national management for increased obesity trends in the region.

Maternal nutrition and lifestyle before and during pregnancy influence both mother and offspring's health and can be correlated with the metabolic syndrome in later life. Findings from animal and human studies indicate that nutrition during pregnancy has an important role in microbiological, metabolic, physiologic and immunologic development and homeostasis. A low nutritional intake in early pregnancy may represent a risk for adverse effects during pregnancy as well as on birth outcome. It seems that dietary supplementation with probiotics in perinatal period may represent safe and practical approach in dealing with the most common adverse pregnancy outcomes such as obesity and gestational diabetes. The SPRING (Study of Probiotics in the prevention of Gestational diabetes) will give important answers about potential benefits of probiotics in pregnant women who are obese and overweight and otherwise at the high risk for complications during pregnancy. Fish oil supplementation during the last trimester of pregnancy showed no effects on plasma lipids and lipoproteins in offspring, as well as on their adiposity. The effect of hypercholesterolemia during pregnancy on both mothers and child needs to be further investigated as it could have a biological role. The guidelines for the eventual clinical approach currently do not exist. Potential benefits of nutraceuticals on several metabolic parameters have been suggested. Limited evidence does not allow to draw final conclusions on preventive health strategies and dietary patterns that should be promoted during pregnancy. Further prospective and intervention studies are needed to establish it. Healthy lifestyle and dietary advice with appropriate supplements usage should be considered.

Background Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are essential elements of the innate immune response to different infections including HIV-1 infection. The single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in TLRs have been associated with CD4T cell count and HIV disease progression. The TLR7 (Gln11Leu) SNP was shown to be associated with a rapid decline of CD4T cell count. A relation between TLR9 (1635A/G) SNP and CD4T cells count in HIV-infected patients is suggested, although the outcome associated with this SNP is still controversial. Objectives To determine the relation of the TLR7 (Gln11Leu) and TLR9 (1635A/G) SNPs with the damage to the immune system during HIV infection as reflected by the average CD4T cell count. Methods A total of 63 HIV-infected patients and 100 healthy individuals (controls) were enrolled in this study. The above named SNPs were analyzed after amplification of the regions that potentially contain the SNPs by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and sequencing of the PCR products. The frequency of these SNPs and their relation with the CD4T cell count were investigated. Results The TLR7 (AA) genotype ‘Gln’ had a trend toward being associated with a CD4T cell count >400 cells/μl after controlling viremia via HAART. Additionally, the TLR9 1635 (GG) genotype was associated with a low average CD4T cell count and the TLR9 1635 (AG) genotype was significantly related to a higher average CD4T cell count during the viremic period in HIV-infected patients. Conclusion The results of this longitudinal study supports the presence of an association between the TLR9 (1635A/G) genotype and the CD4T cell count, which helps clarifying the controversial results regarding this association. It also suggests that the CD4T cell count during the viremic period might be linked to the combination of both TLR7 (Gln11Leu) and TLR9 (1635A/G) genotypes. These results may help predicting the damage to the immune system, and thus impacting the planning for novel anti-HIV strategies.

Our aim was to use a family-based analysis to identify the genetic variants of the adiponectin (ADIPOQ) gene that are associated with obesity, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia and hypertension, among Arabs. We screened 328 Arabs in one large extended family for single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the promoter region of the ADIPOQ gene. Two common SNPs were detected: rs17300539 and rs266729. Evidences of association between traits related to the metabolic syndrome and the SNPs were studied by implementing quantitative genetic association analysis. Results showed that SNP rs266729 was significantly associated with body weight (p-value=0.001), waist circumference (p-value=0.037), BMI (p-value=0.015) and percentage of total body fat (p-value=0.003). Up to 4.1% of heritability of obesity traits was explained by the rs266729 locus. Further cross-sectional analysis showed that carriers of the G allele had significantly higher values of waist circumference, BMI and percentage of total body fat (p-values 0.014, 0.004 and 0.032, respectively). No association was detected between SNP rs266729 and other clusters of metabolic syndrome or their traits except for HOMA-IR and fasting plasma insulin levels, p-values 0.035 and 0.004, respectively. In contrast, both measured genotype and cross-sectional analysis failed to detect an association between the SNP rs17300539 with traits and clusters of metabolic syndrome. In conclusion, we showed family-based evidence of association of SNP rs266729 at ADIPOQ gene with traits defining obesity in Arab population. This is important for future prediction and prevention of obesity in population where obesity is in an increasing trend.

The aim of this study was to compare the effects of cocoa butter and safflower oil on hepatic transcript profiles, lipid metabolism and insulin sensitivity in healthy rats. Cocoa butter-based high-fat feeding for 3 days did not affect plasma total triglyceride (TG) levels or TG-rich VLDL particles or hepatic insulin sensitivity, but changes in hepatic gene expression were induced that might lead to increased lipid synthesis, lipotoxicity, inflammation and insulin resistance if maintained. Safflower oil increased hepatic beta-oxidation, was beneficial in terms of circulating TG-rich VLDL particles, but led to reduced hepatic insulin sensitivity. The effects of safflower oil on hepatic gene expression were partly overlapping with those exerted by cocoa butter, but fewer transcripts from anabolic pathways were altered. Increased hepatic cholesterol levels and increased expression of hepatic CYP7A1 and ABCG5 mRNA, important gene products in bile acid production and cholesterol excretion, were specific effects elicited by safflower oil only. Common effects on gene expression included increased levels of p8, DIG-1 IGFBP-1 and FGF21, and reduced levels of SCD-1 and SCD-2. This indicates that a lipid-induced program for hepatic lipid disposal and cell survival was induced by 3 days of high-fat feeding, independent on the lipid source. Based on the results, we speculate that hepatic TG infiltration leads to reduced expression of SCD-1, which might mediate either neutral, beneficial or unfavorable effects on hepatic metabolism upon high-fat feeding, depending on which fatty acids were provided by the diet.
