Conduct disorder is a psychiatric syndrome occurring in childhood and adolescence, and is characterised by a long-standing pattern of violations of rules and antisocial behaviour. The aetiology of conduct disorder involves an interaction of genetic/constitutional, familial and social factors. Conduct disorder increases the risk of several public health problems, including violence, weapon use, substance abuse and dropping out of school. Thus, it is important to identify conduct disorder and begin intervention as early as possible.Three cases of conduct disorder are presented here, which have been treated exclusively with homoeopathic medicines without any supportive therapies. The diagnosis and severity were assessed by Conduct Disorder Diagnostic Tool and the symptomatic assessment was done by using Conduct Disorder Rating Scale-Parent Version. Possible causal attribution of changes was explicitly depicted by Naranjo Criteria. The initial outcome of homoeopathic treatment shows a positive role of homoeopathy as the cases are exclusively managed by homoeopathic medicine.

Introduction: Homoeopathy, one of the most commonly employed alternative medicines globally, has a wide range of role in the management of diabetes. Screening of the action of homoeopathic medicines in diabetes on animal model not only helps in validating their antidiabetic potential but also aids in understanding their effect on living systems and their mechanism of action. The present review focusses on the collection of results of pre-clinical studies carried out on homoeopathic medicines employed in the management of diabetes. Methodology: PubMed, HomBRex portal, and published literature such as library catalogue were searched up to November 2019. The search terms employed were 'Homoeopathy', 'Diabetes' and their MeSH variations in PubMed and in HomBrex search was made using the condition 'Diabetes'. Results: Fifteen studies were included in the review. Twenty medicines were evaluated for their antidiabetic efficacy either in vivo or in vitro. Most of the preclinical research on diabetes was carried out on Syzygium jambolanum and Cephalandra indica in mother tincture form and potencies, substantiating their effectiveness in the management of diabetes. Apart from the medicines discussed in the current review, there are many other medicines in Homoeopathy which are used to treat diabetes and these also should be validated scientifically for global acceptance by the scientific fraternity. Conclusion: Considering the hypoglycaemic potential, availability and cost-effectiveness of homoeopathic medicines, future research should focus on screening their effectiveness in the management of diabetic complications and other metabolic disorders.

Endometrial ovarian cysts are one of the most common gynecological disorders found in women of reproductive age. They are frequently the cause of surgical interventions, undertaken not only by gynecologists but also by pelvic surgeons. Therefore, at least in this context, endometrial ovarian cysts should be considered an interdisciplinary problem. Here we present a case of 22 years old female having irregular menses, painful menstrual periods with heavy menstrual bleeding for the last 9 months, she had consulted with Gynaecologist and diagnosed with left ovarian Endometriotic Cyst. She was treated with conventional medical therapies for the last 1year but no successful result. At this point, she took homoeopathic treatment (Pulsatilla followed by Medorrhinum) and showed normal USG findings within one year. This case shows the positive role of constitutional anti miasmatic homoeopathic treatment in Endometriotic cyst.

Homoeopathic cure is based on law of similars, and selection of remedy is based on constitutional approach in management of any disease. Where the modern system of medicines makes the usage of external application like ointments, fungicides etc., in treatment of any skin infections like ring worm or tinea corporis infection, which leads to suppression or palliation. So the disease tends to recur often and becomes a chronic disease. Removal of local symptoms of the local direction by external application leads to rousing up the internal disease and the other symptoms that previously existed in a latent state side by side with the local affection. So there is a wide scope for proper management and treatment of Tinea corporis in Homoeopathy. As in our system of medicine we do not treat the disease but we treat the individual who is suffering. Through individualization with constitutional remedy (Approach) we can treat both acute as well as the chronic phase of disease, to prevent further recurrence and complications of the disease.

Background Otitis is a general term for inflammation or infection of the ear. Otitis media is the presence of inflammation or infection in the middle ear. Homoeopathy is the most popular treatment among the complementary and alternative medicine therapies sought for otitis media. Several studies revealed promising role of homoeopathic treatment in otitis media. The present study comprises the role of homoeopathic medicines in the treatment of 20 cases of otitis media. Materials and Methods It is a case series of 20 cases of otitis media which is unicentric retrospective observational study. Data was collected after consecutive appointments of patients visiting one outpatient clinic of Regional Research Institute for Homoeopathy, Guwahati, during the 12 months, January 2019 to January 2020. Individualised homoeopathic medicines were administered according to the rules of homoeopathy. In this study, outcome related to impact on daily living scale was used to assess the patient's well-being. The outcome score recorded at the last follow-up appointment per case was thus the single value analysed. Result Among the patients (n = 20) included in the study, the number of patients belonging to female category was 10, (50%) while 10 patients (50%) were male, with a ratio of 1:1. Several medicines (n = 8) were prescribed and administered as follows: Belladonna (n = 1, 5%), Chamomilla (n = 1, 5%), Kali muriaticum (n = 2, 10%), Kali sulphuricum (n = 4, 20%), Mercurius dulcis (n = 2, 10%), Mercurius solubilis (n = 7, 35%), Pulsatilla (n = 2, 10%), Silicea (n = 1, 5%). No patient required antibiotics. Out of 20 cases, only four patients needed second prescription. Change of prescription was done in only one case among them. Higher potency was administered for the other three cases. 16 patients followed-up and 4 patients were dropped out after first prescription. Of these 16 follow-ups, there was a positive outcome in 12 (60%), negative in 2 (10%) and no change in 2 (10%) patients. In our study, outcome did not depend on the age but on medicine. Correctly chosen remedy with strict homoeopathic principle shows maximum improvement. When duration of illness was analysed, it was found that cases with complaints of short duration improve early, whereas cases with long duration of illness took much time to recover or remained status quo. Conclusion The study reflected the importance of homoeopathic prescribing in the treatment of otitis following strict homoeopathic principles.

Background: A systematic review on homoeopathic pathogenetic trials (HPTs) from 1945 to 1995 was published in 2007, and the basic question whether the effect produced by homoeopathic drugs in healthy human volunteers is equivalent to placebo or otherwise remained unanswered. There is a need to take up another review of HPTs conducted in the last two decades, to assess the changes in the methodologies adapted and to assess whether the effects produced in apparently healthy volunteers is due to homoeopathic medicines in high dilutions or not. Objective: To seek, collect, review and describe HPTs published during 1996–2018. Materials and Methods: A comprehensive literature search, both electronic and manual, was done using search terms ‘homoeopathic drug proving’ and ‘homoeopathic pathogenetic trial’ with time constraint of 1996–2018 in English language. As per the inclusion and exclusion criteria, the papers were selected for extraction of data in the predefined extraction form. Results: One hundred and forty-seven eligible records (74 peer-reviewed [PR] and 73 non-peer-reviewed [NPR]) of HPTs of 214 drugs were identified and subjected to the extraction of data. Majority of the drug proving records were contributed by the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy which included 86 records (24 PR and 62 NPR) with the data of 24 and 63 drugs, respectively, and by Riley, one book (NPR) with data of 68 drugs. Heterogeneity was encountered in all aspects – design, conduct, participants and outcome reporting. Conclusion: This preliminary study is the basis for data recovery and for the forthcoming program of systematic review and meta-analysis, which may include the HPTs published in other languages.

Background Symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a common condition in elderly men and has a significant impact on their daily lives. Surgical procedures are currently used for the conventional treatment for BPH; but they have been associated with clinically significant adverse effects in patients. Objectives The main purpose of this article is to evaluate the role of homoeopathic medicines for the treatment of BPH. Materials and Methods Clinically diagnosed 30 subjects of BPH were given homoeopathy treatment and followed up for a period of 1 year. Homoeopathic medicines were prescribed to the subjects according to the principles of homoeopathy. Effects of homoeopathic medicines were analysed periodically by American Urological Association score (AUA score) and ultrasonography. Results Marked amelioration of symptoms and reduction in size of prostate gland in BPH subjects were observed after homoeopathic treatment when analysed by AUA score and ultrasonography. There was marked reduction in various symptoms of BPH like nocturia, straining, incomplete sensation after urination, interrupted flow of urination with dribbling of urine and urgency significantly from 21.60 ± 4.64 units to 12.23 ± 3.68, that is, ∼57% reduction in symptoms of obstruction of bladder problem. The reduction was statistically significant (p = 0.001). However, transabdominal pelvic ultrasonic scan did not show statistically significant results. Conclusion Homoeopathic medicines can prove to be an alternative treatment of BPH.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common dermatological disorder in children, which is chronic and of a relapsing nature. It is very common in children, with a fair chance of lifetime prevalence of the disease. The following case is of a child 5 months of age who was suffering from AD since 2 months of age. After the first prescription, complaints were much improved. Following that, the child was treated with complex homoeopathic medicines by another physician, which aggravated the condition. Following stoppage of medicines due to an aggravation, a second remedy was thereafter prescribed that provided long-term relief to the patient.

Background: The World Health Organization (WHO) considersHypertension (HT) as one of the most important causes of premature death worldwide. It is directly responsible for 57% of all deaths due to stroke and 24% of all deaths due to coronary heart disease deaths in India. Recent studies conducted on Indian population have shown that the prevalence of hypertension in urban areas is 25%,whereas, it is 10% in rural areas. 1 According to the statistics of the WHO, homoeopathy is the second most useful health care system in the world. However, a meta-analysis in 2005 concluded that the clinical effects of homoeopathy are nothing but placebo effects. 2 Although a conflicting conclusion was arrived at earlier in 1997 by another meta-analysis. 3 The aim of this study was to evaluate whether individualized homoeopathic medicines could produce any significant hypotensive effect different from placebo in patients with essential hypertension by comparing the lowering of blood pressure level between groups. Settings and Design: A prospective, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, parallel-arm clinical trial was conducted atDr.NishantDaryani’s clinic, Jaipur &Dr.NiveditaPattanaik’sclinic, Udaipur.(Raj.). Material and Methods:Total 233 hypertensive patients were assessed for eligibility, out of which 150 were enrolled and randomized for the study (verum/homoeopathy 70 &control/placebo 80). Among 150 patients 18 were dropped out during the study while 132 remained under regular follow up (verum 64, control 68). The outcome measures were assessed at the end of 3 and 6 months. Results: The baseline data were not significantly different between the groups. After 6 months, mean Systolic Blood Pressure (SBP) in the homoeopathy group reduction was 26.6 mm Hg (95% CI 21.5, 31.7) whereasSBP in the placebo group increased by 3.6 mm Hg (95% CI -8.7, 1.5). Similarly, the mean Diastolic Blood Pressure (DBP) in the homoeopathy group reduced by 11.8 mm Hg (95% CI 9.2, 14.4) whereas DBP increased by 1.6 mm Hg (95% CI -3.6, 0.4) in the placebo group. Repeated measures ANOVA also showed significant difference (P=0.0001) between the groups. Detailed case recording of each patient was doneon Case recording format (CRF) following guidelines laid down by Master Hahnemann in Organon of Medicine 4 and Kent's philosophy 5 .Wherever required repertorization was done from synthesis repertory using RADAR software version 10.5 6 and final selection of medicine was done through Homoeopathic MateriaMedica. Frequently prescribed medicines were Natrummur.,Lachesis, Glonoine, Gelsemium, Bryonia alba, Aurum met.,Pulsatilla, Sulphur, Digitalis and Belladonna.

Lacrimal glands are exclusive structures possessing both epithelial and lymphoid tissue and may produce a variable range of pathologies such as neoplastic, infective, infiltrative, inflammatory and structural. Treatment is either anti-inflammatory in the form of corticosteroids, radiotherapy or complete excision in the field of modern medicine. A female patient named IB, aged 35 years, came with bilateral firm swelling of the lacrimal gland. She started treatment under modern medicine doctors; however, when she was advised for biopsy, for histopathological examination, she preferred to go for Homoeopathy. The swelling was developing gradually for 2 months – painless, no fluctuation, no fixity to skin and underlying structures. After thorough case-taking followed by repertorisation, Calcarea carbonica 1M, two doses were prescribed. The patient reported after 2 months with zero Outcome in Relation to Impact on Daily Living instrument score. Further modification was done in repertorisation, and now Silicea 1M, two doses was prescribed. Treatment continued for 4 more months and no new medicine or further repetition was required. Documentation was done in the form of photographs of the patient from the same angle under similar light exposure in every follow-up.

Context: Scientific assessment of proving symptoms or already recorded symptoms in patients refers to Clinical Verification (CV). There are serious shortcomings of existing methods of CV, mostly arising from qualitative observations made on absolute occurrence of symptoms instead of relative ones. This problem can be resolved by the use of the Likelihood Ratio (LR). Aim: This study aims to estimate the prevalence and LRs of general symptoms of 29 less frequently prescribed homoeopathic medicines. Methods: The study was multicentric, open and observational. Patients were enrolled as per pre-specified eligibility criteria. Alongside, presenting complaints and general symptoms were taken into account during prescription. Medicines were prescribed in centesimal potencies. LR calculation of general symptoms was based on clinician-rated outcomes as 'improved' and 'not improved' of presenting complaints and was divided into three sections: (1) when the prevalence of a symptom was available from literature, LR was calculated by assessing the prevalence of that symptom in the responder sample, (2) in the absence of so, calculation was restricted to mean prevalence data from study sample ('confined LR') and (3) 'confined LRs' were not calculated for symptoms whose prevalence were not recorded for at least five medicines and were kept for estimation in future. Results: Of 166 general symptoms of 29 medicines, LRs and confined LRs >1.5 were elicited for 6 and 49 symptoms, respectively. Conclusion: In spite of considerable caveats, it is the first insight into prevalence and LRs of general symptoms of less frequently prescribed homoeopathic medicines. Further research is warranted.

This paper seeks to develop a hypothesis on the scientific basis of homoeopathic medicine, and the research opportunities that this field of medicine presents, by primarily stating the cardinal laws on which homoeopathy is based, and secondly reviewing literature on the basic sciences in an attempt to find out as to whether the latter has any explanation of the said laws. This has been achieved by focusing on the assumptions and theories of the founder of homoeopathy Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, precisely homoeopathy’s cardinal law which states that a substance which when administered to a healthy person produces sick symptoms in that person, will cure disease with symptoms similar to those that it produces on one hand, while on the other hand the concept of serial dilutions (potencies) and the notion that the higher the dilution, the more stronger the therapeutic effect of the drug on the other. Outcomes based evidence in support of the efficacy of homoeopathic medicines is visited, which proves the authenticity of both the law of similar and the effectiveness of potentised homeopathic drugs. Thereafter both theories are then explained in terms of established scientific laws, principles and theories. Consequently, it is established that Homoeopathic medicine holds with science in general and modern day science in particular, with the vaccination and nanoparticle theories coming up as the most conspicuous scientific explanations for the two said homoeopathic laws. Lastly, this field of medicine presents broad research opportunities, for example the determination of the number of above Avogadro number nanoparticles of a substance in a given serial dilution, so as to establish as to whether each serial dilution possess evenly distributed nanoparticles at any given time.

Homoeopathy is among the commonly used alternative approaches in Cancer. It is being widely used as palliative and curative in patients suffering from cancer. Though studies on the use of Homoeopathy in cancer after surgery, radio therapy and chemotherapy have been reported, clinical trials on effects of Homoeopathy in cancer are rare. Some studies on the effect of dosage of Homoeopathic medicines and their mechanism of action in cancer have also been published. A few case reports published here and there also find a mention in different databases. This review aims to describe literature available on the approach of Homoeopathy in Cancer by searching various databases like Elsevier, Google Scholar, Pub Med, Scopus, Springer and Wiley online library, electronically. It was found that beneficial effect of Homoeopathic medicines are reported on some cancer cell lines via apoptosis and immune modulation. Homoeopathic treatment given as add on also improves the quality of life, survival time and presenting complaints. However, more evidence needs to be generated to demonstrate anti tumor or antimetastatic potential in controlled clinical trials.

Since the 1960s, homoeopaths, along with biomedical physicians, have generally acknowledged the double-blind, randomized, controlled trial (RCT) as the ‘gold standard’ for establishing the efficacy of a clinical intervention. The homoeopathic profession has, however, been ambivalent about the incorporation of the RCT model for the internal validation of homoeopathic medicines. This paper looks at important components of the RCT such as blind assessment, randomization and statistical inference and examines some of the historical and scientific issues about their adoption for homoeopathic provings.

The effects of homoeopathic medicines on children suffering from recurrent upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) were studied in a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial conducted at the paediatric outpatients department of the university hospital of the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam from 1987 to 1992.The study was designed to meet both the requirements of proper homoeopathic practice and the current standards of a clinical trial. The purpose of a randomized placebo-controlled double-blind trial is to identify the effects of the agents under investigation by equalizing the effects of other factors that may influence outcome. The object of the trial, eligibility criteria, follow-up period, treatments and concurrent interventions, data collection and effect measures are discussed in the light of homoeopathic thinking.

Background: Prostatic enlargement (prostatomegaly) is a common condition in aging men which can be progressive and lead to acute urinary retention and ultimately need for surgery. Although clinical evidence of disease occurs less commonly, symptoms of prostatic obstruction are also age related and if untreated affect quality of life. Patients with huge prostatic enlargement mostly undergo surgical intervention. Objective: To assess the usefulness of homoeopathic medicines in patients with huge prostatomegaly, a clinical study was conducted at Gaurang Clinic and Centre for Homoeopathic Research, Lucknow, India. Materials and Methods: A total of 116 patients have been shortlisted with prostate weight above 50 g, out of which 61 were found fit for the study. The medicines have been selected on the basis of principles of Homoeopathy. Prostate weight and postvoid residual urine (PVRU) on ultrasonography were assessed before and after treatment. Results: After comparing pre- and post-treatment results, the difference in mean values of prostate weight and PVRU were 67.47 ± 2.78-60.15 ± 3.62 (P < 0.001) and 91.61 ± 11.91-65.94 ± 9.01 (P = 0.009), respectively, which were found statistically significant. Lycopodium (n = 21), Pulsatilla (n = 7), and Nux vomica (n = 3) were found to be most useful medicines. Conclusion: Results obtained from the study are encouraging with findings that almost 64% of patients reduced their prostatic weight significantly. However, such study with inclusion of more parameters is needed for further validation of the role of homoeopathic medicines.

Validation of homoeopathic medicines is about validating effectiveness in individual cases. Homoeopathic practitioners base their expectation that a medicine will work on the experience that specific symptoms of the patient indicate specific medicines. The prevalence of such symptoms is higher in a population responding well to a specific medicine than in the remainder of the population. This principle has a solid mathematical foundation in Bayes' theorem, identifies homoeopathic symptoms as prognostic factors, and offers an interesting perspective of individualized research. This kind of research depends on recording symptoms and results of treatment. An important challenge in this research is establishing causality between medicine and improved health. Prognostic factor research could become one of the main pillars of Homoeopathy's scientific identity.

Objectives. To assess Pakistani pharmacy students’ perceptions of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), the frequency with which they use CAM, and barriers to use of CAM. Method. A CAM health belief questionnaire was administered to 595 students enrolled in a 5-year doctor of pharmacy program (PharmD) in Pakistan. Results. Attitudes of students towards CAM were positive. Lack of evidence supporting CAM practices was considered to be the major barrier toward more students using CAM. A majority of students (79%) agreed that clinical care should integrate conventional medicine and CAM practices. Many CAM-based therapies, such as dietary supplements, massage, herbal medicines, and homoeopathic medicines were used by the students. Significant gender differences in attitude were observed, with male students having more conservative attitudes toward CAM use. A high percentage of students desired more training in CAM. Conclusions. Pakistani students exhibited positive attitudes about the value of CAM and most felt that CAM should be included in the PharmD curriculum.

Homœopathic medicines are being increasingly scrutinized by regulatory authorities. There is considerable variation in methods of preparation and no generally accepted standard. The authors have tested 55 different mother tinctures for anti-bacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, using a previously described method. Twenty mother tinctures were available from more than one manufacturer. In 40% there were significant differences in anti-bacterial activity between tinctures from different manufacturers.

This is not a regurgitation o f the textbooks. I think you will find that when you use homoeopathic medicines your need for standard antidepressants and anxiolytics will steadily decline; this is certainly something which I have found. Here, when you think about it, are two groups of conventional medicines, the anxiolytics and antidepressants, which really have been woefully over prescribed during the last couple of decades in general practice. As a result we now have hundreds of thousands of what one might call psychotropic addicts in our land and this is because there has been a tremendous over-prescription of these ordinary drugs. I think this is a field where one can very quickly see some of the very simple advantages of homoeopathic medicines. These are all pretty well known to you: f r eedom from side-effects, such a big problem with the psychotropic group of drugs, and then this particular factor, safe ty from the possibility of overdosage. This is a very useful area when using homoeopathic therapeutics in the acute situation in general practice because, obviously, there is always a problem, or at any rate a potential problem, of patients taking an overdose of their tablets. This has happened to me on a number of occasions where one has prescribed remedies for a patient and later the same day relatives have rung up and said: 'Horrors, Veronica has taken the whole bottle ' . It is very nice to just be able to say: 'Well, that 's fine and not to worry about it at all, ' because you are not going to do any damage. So that is really quite an important point in being able to use homoeopathic therapeutics in this particular field: and then, of course, there is an important point: t h a t homoeopathic medicines are free from problems of drug abuse or addiction. I am going to review a number of medicines some of which are very major medicines, but I only want to highlight that part of their materia

Homoeopathy is an alternative medical treatment developed in Germany by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann. He proposed two theories about homoeopathy: “Like cures Like” and the “Law of Minimum Dose”. The objective for this study was to evaluate the level of awareness about homoeopathic medical treatment among university students. A Questionnaire was developed containing five basic questions related to homeopathic medical sciences. 500 students from Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, Pakistan were selected for this study. The only 5% university students used homoeopathic medicines in their live. From our research, it was concluded that awareness about homoeopathy among students is not up to the mark. While, homoeopathy awareness may make the world a healthier, and happier place.
