Objective: The study aims to determine the daily workload and to analyze the content of workload, to describe the service profile of FPs working in primary care in Turkey. Methods: The study design is descriptive and cross-sectional. A total of 28 FPs from 17 different cities were enrolled into the study. Two surveys, one inquiring the demographic properties of FPs participated and a second encounter form with 43 items inquiring all aspects of FPs’ workload were filled by the participants. Results: A total of 1,215 visits were reported. The average daily workload of FPs participating was 45.7± 16.8 visits. 92.5% of all patients were family physicians’ own registered patients while 7.5% of them were guests. A total of 1,610 RFEs were reported. We categorized them as prescription requests (451, 28%), clinical complaints (447, 27.8%), preventive medicine services (436, 27%), administrative reasons (161, %10) and other reasons (115, 7.2%). Essential hypertension and diseases of musculoskeletal system were the most common diagnoses in prescription requests. Sore throat and cough were the top two clinical complaints. Conclusions: FPs in Turkey are under severe pressure. Prescription requests account for an important percentage of this workload. Measures should be taken to lessen this burden.

Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the factors that influenced the decisions of family physicians working in primary care health services to receive influenza vaccines. Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed between June 2014 and September 2014. Physicians were reached electronically via e-mail. A self-reported questionnaire consisting of 50 items covering potential factors that may have influenced their decision to receive vaccination, including perceived risk, severity of the perceived risk, perceived benefit, perceived barriers, cues to action, attitudes, social influences and personal efficacy, was administered to the study participants. Cronbach's alpha for the questionnaire was determined to be 0.92 in the pilot study. Results: The response rate was 27.5% (n = 596). Regularly vaccinated physicians accounted for 27.3% of the responses. The median age was 41.84 ± 7.80, and the median working duration of the group was 17.0 ± 7.8 years. The factors that led to increased vaccination compliance (p < 0.05) included working duration, age, chronic disease history and living with a person over 65 years. Nearly all major domains, i.e., perceived risk, severity of the perceived risk, perceived benefit, perceived barriers, attitudes, social influences and personal efficacy, there were differences between the compliant and noncompliant groups. Multi-regression analyses revealed that risk perception, organizational factors such as time and convenient vaccination increased vaccine compliance. However, the perceived necessity to be vaccinated annually had a negative effect on vaccination behaviour (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Strategies aimed to increase the flu vaccination ratio among physicians that do not take different factors into account are more likely to be unsuccessful. In the planning and implementation of strategies aiming to increase the vaccination ratio among physicians, it is both necessary and important to take into account behavioural and organizational factors. © 2016 Elsevier Ltd.

Aim. Our aim was to detect older patients who were prescribed inappropriate drugs according to START/STOPP criteria in primary care. Materials and Method. Patients aged over 65, admitted to health center no. 5 in Afyon, were included. The files of the subjects were surveyed retrospectively for the final one year in the digital environment, using the Family Medicine Information System. The files surveyed allowed us to list the drugs they used in the past year and to detect inappropriate drug use. Results. The number of patients that took part in this study was 325 (average age: years). We found that, among these participants, 48 patients (14.8%) were using drugs inappropriately according to STOPP criteria. Conclusion. Further focus on avoiding inappropriate drug use will allow clinicians and other health professionals to reduce side effects and other complications. In patients aged over 65, there is a need to attach particular importance to inappropriate drug use, drug interactions, and avoidance of side effects.

Objectives : Common cold is often caused by rhinovirus. It is a mild and self-limiting illness that almost always resolves spontaneously. To date there is no effective treatment for common cold and the routine use of antibiotics for the common cold is not recommended. The cold-related knowledge and beliefs of people may not correspond with current medical opinion. Knowledge and beliefs may differ on the basis of a person’s ethnicity or socioeconomic status. The aim of this study was to investigate the beliefs about causes and management of common cold among Turkish people. Material and Methods : This study was conducted in a family health care center in Adana city, located at Mediterranean region of Turkey. 146 participants attended to this descriptive study.
