Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a rapidly emerging treatment for depression, but outcome prediction is still a challenge. This study aimed to identify predictors of response to rTMS among baseline clinical factors and early symptomatic improvements. This cohort study comprised 136 patients with a unipolar or bipolar depressive episode referred for clinical intermittent theta-burst stimulation or right-sided 1 Hz rTMS at the Uppsala Brain Stimulation Unit. The co-primary outcomes used for logistic regression were response, defined as ≥50 % reduction of Montgomery and Åsberg Depression Rating Scale Self-assessment (MADRS-S) total score, and 1–2 points on the Clinical Global Impression Improvement (CGI-I) scale. Early improvement was defined as ≥20 % reduction in the MADRS-S total score, or ≥ 1 point reduction in each MADRS-S item, after two weeks of treatment. The response rates were 21 % for MADRS-S and 45 % for CGI-I. A depressive episode >24 months had lower odds for MADRS-S response compared to ≤12 months. Early improvement of the MADRS-S total score predicted CGI-I response (95 % CI = 1.35–9.47, p = 0.011), Initiative 6 predicted MADRS-S response (95 % CI = 1.08–9.05, p = 0.035), and Emotional involvement 7 predicted CGI-I response (95 % CI = 1.03–8.66, p = 0.044). No adjustment for concurrent medication. A depressive episode ≤12 months and early improvement in overall depressive symptoms, as well as the individual items, Initiative 6 and Emotional involvement 7 , predicted subsequent rTMS response in a naturalistic sample of depressed patients. Depression has emerged as a modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, evidence on whether depressive symptoms measured using a self-report questionnaire are associated with CVD incidence is scarce. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the association between depressive symptoms and CVD risk using data from national health examinations and insurance claim records. This retrospective cohort study included participants who underwent the Korean National Screening Program for Transitional Ages at age 66 years between 2007 and 2017. The presence of depressive symptoms was defined as affirmative responses to any of three questions (loss of activities and interests, worthlessness, and hopelessness) selected from the Geriatric Depression Scale. Incident composite CVD event included myocardial infarction, stroke, heart failure, and CVD death. The association between depressive symptoms and CVD risk was evaluated using hazard ratios (HRs) and 95 % confidence intervals (CIs) estimated with Cox proportional hazards models. Among 88,765 participants (48.5 % women) aged 66 years, 4036 incident CVD events occurred during a mean follow-up of 6.8 years. Participants with depressive symptoms had a significantly higher risk of CVD than those without depressive symptoms (adjusted HR = 1.16 [95 % CI: 1.07–1.24]). The three individual depressive symptoms showed similar associations with CVD risk (loss of activities and interests, adjusted HR = 1.17 [95 % CI: 1.08–1.26]; worthlessness, 1.15 [1.03–1.29]; hopelessness, 1.13 [1.01–1.26]). The study was limited to participants aged 66 years. Despite extensive adjustment for potential confounders and multiple sensitivity analyses, residual confounding and reverse causality could not be ruled out. The presence of depressive symptoms was associated with an increased risk of CVD. Objective: Major depressive disorder (MDD) is often accompanied by psychotic symptoms. However, few studies have examined the relationship between psychotic symptoms and endocrine factors in adolescent patients with MDD. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the prevalence and related endocrine clinical factors of psychotic symptoms in Chinese adolescent patients with MDD. Methods: In total, 601 patients (aged 12–18) with MDD were recruited. The Patient Health Questionnaire – 9 items (PHQ – 9) was utilized for assessing depressive symptoms. Psychotic symptoms were assessed through clinical interviews. Prolactin (PRL), thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), triiodothyronine (T3), free triiodothyronine (FT3), thyroxine (T4), and free thyroxine (FT4) were also measured. Results: The incidence of psychotic symptoms in adolescent patients with MDD was 22.6%. The findings demonstrated that age, self-harming behavior, PHQ-9 score, FT4, and normalized PRL were independently associated with psychotic symptoms in patients with MDD (All p < 0.05). Conclusions: PRL and FT4 levels are more likely to be abnormally elevated in major depressive adolescents with psychotic symptoms. This three-wave longitudinal study of 297 community adults (mean age = 38.66 years, 67% female) examined how anxiety sensitivity and experiential avoidance work together to explain the relation between perfectionism and anxious and depressive symptoms over 2 years. Participants completed measures of self-critical (SC) and personal standards (PS) higher-order dimensions of perfectionism, anxiety sensitivity, experiential avoidance, and anxious and depressive symptoms at Time 1. Participants completed measures of anxiety sensitivity, experiential avoidance, and symptoms again at Time 2 one year later, and symptoms measures again at Time 3 two years after baseline. Moderated mediation analyses showed that for those with higher Time 1 experiential avoidance, Time 1 SC perfectionism was indirectly related to Time 3 anxious arousal symptoms through Time 2 anxiety sensitivity. For those with moderate to higher Time 1 anxiety sensitivity, Time 1 SC perfectionism was indirectly associated with Time 3 general distress and anxious arousal symptoms through Time 2 experiential avoidance. These moderated mediation effects were not found for PS perfectionism. These results support anxiety sensitivity and experiential avoidance as moderating and mediating processes that may be important treatment targets for reducing vulnerability to anxious and depressive symptoms over the longer-term in SC perfectionistic individuals. The increased prevalence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has placed a significant emotional and psychological burden on mothers. We explored the association between the severity of ASD symptoms in children and the mental health of their mothers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our study included 1,924 mothers of children with ASD, enrolled in a web-based cross-sectional survey over 85 consecutive days to gather clinical and sociodemographic data. The severity of ASD symptoms was obtained according to the children's age. Using the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scales (DASS-21) scale, we found that 35.8 percent of mothers experienced both anxiety and depression. A high education level and a high family income reduced the chance of concurrent anxiety and depression. Conversely, unemployment, a child using psychiatric medication, and higher severity of ASD symptoms increased the chance. Notably, the severity of the ASD symptom was the sole predictor of maternal co-occurring anxiety and depression across all age groups (<3 years aOR = 2.04, 95%CI 1.07–3.89; 3–5 years aOR = 2.76, 95%CI 1.67–4.56; ≥ 6 years aOR = 1.61, 95%CI 1.04–2.50). Recognizing the challenges associated with ASD leads to greater acceptance and tailored interventions, ultimately improving the overall well-being of both individuals with ASD and their mothers. This scoping review aimed to explore and synthesize existing research on predictors of loneliness, and the impact of loneliness on physiological and psychological health outcomes and health behaviors in older adults with diabetes. Results from 12 studies showed that low education, being unmarried/divorced/separated, having diabetes-related complications, being physically inactive, having diabetes distress, being of a certain race/ethnicity, being female, having depressive symptoms, and being younger age were consistently identified as predictors of loneliness. In addition, loneliness was found to affect both psychological (depressive symptoms and negative perceptions of diabetes) and physiological health outcomes (increased postprandial blood glucose and A1C levels, decreased cortisol levels, increased MCP-1 levels, slower gait speed, and weaker hand grip) and health behaviors (decreased engagement in physical activity, increased disability in activities of daily living and instrumental activities of daily living, and increased likelihood of antidepressant use). The results of this scoping review suggest that loneliness is a complex issue for older adults with diabetes and its effects are far-reaching. Therefore, further research should be conducted to explore the potential causal relationships between loneliness and physiological and psychological health outcomes and to identify the best interventions to reduce loneliness in older adults with diabetes. Tinnitus and misophonia are important "sound annoyance" disorders in pediatric otolaryngology and audiology practices. There is scant published literature to suggest increased anxiety and depression symptoms in these disorders. This study aimed at assessing the clinical characteristics of these 2 disorders and their prevalence in mental health–related symptoms in a 2-year retrospective chart review of a multi-disciplinary (otolaryngology, audiology, and psychology) clinic cohort. Analyses were based on 54 (tinnitus = 33 and misophonia = 21) children consisting of 19 males and 35 females with a mean age (standard deviation) of 14.3 (3.0) years. The entire cohort was negatively affected by diagnosis-based symptom severity instruments as assessed by Tinnitus Functional Index and Amsterdam Misophonia Scale. Both subgroups exhibited elevated anxiety and depression symptoms in psychometric instruments as assessed by Screen for Child Anxiety Related Emotional Disorders and Short Mood and Feelings Questionnaire. Considering that diagnostic decisions about mTBI are often predicated on clinical symptom criteria, it is imperative to determine which initial presentation features of mTBI have prognostic significance for identifying those at high risk for long-term functional impairment. Zoom interview Participants: Male, former NCAA Division I, and professional-level National Football League (NFL) athletes (n = 177) between the ages of 27 and 85 (M = 54.1, SD = 14.7). Cross-sectional case-control. Main Measures: History of mild TBI, history of loss of consciousness (LOC), depression symptoms, insomnia, neurobehavioral symptoms. Number of mTBI exposures did not predict neurobehavioral symptoms (B = 0.21, SE = 0.18, p = 0.23), but number of mTBI + LOC events did (B = 2.27, SE = 0.64, p = <.001). Further analysis revealed that the number of mTBI + LOC events predicted neurobehavioral symptoms indirectly through both depression (B = 0.85, 95% CI = [0.27, 1.52) and insomnia (B = 0.81, 95% CI = [0.3, 1.4]). Further, the direct effect of mTBI + LOC events on neurobehavioral symptoms became non-significant when depression and insomnia were added to the model (B = 0.78, SE = 0.45, p = 0.08). Findings support LOC at time of injury as an important predictor of long-term outcomes. Additionally, results suggest depression and insomnia as potential mediators in the association between mTBI + LOC and neurobehavioral symptoms. Objective: Extant literature has demonstrated a link between intimate partner aggression and depressive symptomatology. However, most research has been limited to designs that consider only one partner's aggression within couples. Method: In the present study, newlywed couples (N = 634) who were at least 18 years old, spoke English, and did not have a previous marriage completed assessments consisting of self-reporting psychological and physical partner aggression and depressive symptomatology across six waves during the first 9 years of marriage. Results: Dyadic mixed-effect regression models indicated that, at the between-person level (i.e., individual differences), there were significant positive associations between husbands' and wives' experience of psychological aggression from a partner, husbands' use of psychological aggression toward a partner, and wives' experience of physical aggression from a partner with depressive symptoms. At the within-person level (i.e., time varying), in years when husbands or wives experienced more psychological aggression from their partner than typical for them, they also experienced more depressive symptoms. For husbands, this effect was stronger in years involving more bidirectional aggression. For wives, experiencing more psychological aggression from a partner in a given year predicted more subsequent depressive symptoms. However, this association was not significant following years with more bidirectional aggression. Conclusions: Overall, these findings show that both past and concurrent intimate partner aggression are positively associated with depressive symptoms during the first 9 years of marriage. Background: There is evidence that major depressive disorder (MDD) with its cardinal symptoms, anhedonia and suicide, are linked with raised inflammatory markers like C-reactive protein (CRP). This case–control study investigated the correlation between high sensitive CRP (Hs-CRP), anhedonia, suicidal ideation, and depression severity in MDD patients. Methods: Forty-one MDD patients and 47 healthy controls were recruited. MDD diagnosis was confirmed using DSM-5 criteria. Depression severity, anhedonia, and suicidal ideation were assessed using standardized scales. Serum Hs-CRP levels were measured as an inflammatory marker. Results: MDD cases had significantly greater Hs-CRP levels compared to controls. Additionally, Hs-CRP levels were positively correlated with both anhedonia and suicidal ideation in MDD cases. Depression severity was significantly linked with both anhedonia and suicidal ideation. Conclusion: This study suggests a link between inflammation, anhedonia, suicidal ideation, and depression severity in MDD patients. Major depressive disorder (MDD) is currently the most common psychiatric disorder in the world. It characterized by a high incidence of disease with the symptoms like depressed mood, slowed thinking, and reduced cognitive function. Without timely intervention, there is a 20–30% risk of conversion to treatment-resistant depression (TRD) and a high burden for the patient, family and society. Numerous studies have shown that physical activity (PA) is a nonpharmacological treatment that can significantly improve the mental status of patients with MDD and has positive effects on cognitive function, sleep status, and brain plasticity. However, the physiological and psychological effects of different types of PA on individuals vary, and the dosage profile of PA in improving symptoms in patients with MDD has not been elucidated. In most current studies of MDD, PA can be categorized as continuous endurance training (ECT), explosive interval training (EIT), resistance strength training (RST), and mind–body training (MBT), and the effects on patients’ depressive symptoms, cognitive function, and sleep varied. Therefore, the present study was based on a narrative review and included a large number of existing studies to investigate the characteristics and differences in the effects of different PA interventions on MDD. The study also investigated the characteristics and differences of different PA interventions in MDD, and explained the neural mechanisms through the results of multimodal brain function monitoring, including the intracranial environment and brain structure. Background: Individuals may experience a range of symptoms after the clearance of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. This condition is termed long COVID (LC) or Post-COVID-19 condition (PCC). Despite the appreciable number of symptoms documented to date, one key challenge remains in the robust characterization of LC outcomes. This review aimed to assess the properties, identify gaps, and provide recommendations for relevant descriptive and evaluative Patient-Reported Outcome Measurement (PROM) instruments that can be used to comprehensively characterize LC. Methods: To achieve this objective, we identified and reviewed descriptive and evaluative PROM instruments that have been developed and validated to date with people living with LC. Our review assessed their properties, identified gaps, and recommended PROMs suitable for characterizing LC. To ensure a comprehensive and robust characterization of LC, we next identified, reviewed, and selected (with the input of patient partners) PROMs associated with the most frequently reported LC symptoms. The evaluation criteria included psychometric evidence, mode of delivery, cost, and administration time. Results: Traditional matrix mapping revealed Post-COVID Functional Status Scale (PCFS) as a choice instrument for capturing LC outcomes largely because of the comprehensive domains it covered, and the number of psychometric evidence reported in literatures. This instrument can be effectively paired with the Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS), Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), Headache Impact Test (HIT), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and DePaul Symptom Questionnaire (DSQ-PEM) to characterize fatigue, cognitive impairment, depression/anxiety, headache, sleeplessness, and post-exertional malaise respectively. Conclusion: Our paper identified appropriate PROM instruments that can effectively capture the diverse impacts of LC. By utilizing these validated instruments, we can better understand and manage LC. Plain language summary: Some individuals who once contracted the virus responsible for COVID-19 may continue to experience a range of symptoms persisting for more than 3 months. These symptoms include fatigue, difficulty sleeping, anxiety and difficulty breathing amongst others. This condition is known by many as Long COVID (LC). To understand the health outcomes of patients faced with this condition, standardized Patient Reported Outcome Measurement instruments (PROMs) are pivotal. PROMs are standardized questionnaires completed by patients to measure their symptoms, perceptions of health status, and/or functional well-being. In this paper, we have examined standardized instruments suitable for measuring LC outcomes. We conducted a comprehensive strength and weakness analysis of each instrument reviewed, guided by specific criteria. Based on our strength and weakness analyses, we identified several potential instruments that can be used to reports patients' outcomes concerning LC. The data collected from PROMs provides valuable insights for healthcare practitioners and policy makers, enabling the enhancement of patient-centric care and serving as an instrument for systemic transformation. We conducted mathematical simulations to identify effective treatment options for depression. These simulations involved treatment component nodes that targeted specific symptoms within the depressive symptom network, examining how interventions for certain symptoms could improve the overall symptomatology. The results indicate that targeting a symptom with higher centrality can lead to significant improvement. Furthermore, while interventions targeting symptoms with the lowest centrality did not show any improvement, targeting multiple lower‐centrality symptoms simultaneously may lead to an improvement in overall symptomatology. Insights from these simulations are expected to advance the understanding of effective intervention strategies for depression and the application of psychological networks in clinical settings. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of creative art therapy on reducing depressive symptoms and improving the quality of life among Jordanian older people.A one-group time-series design (pretest, posttest, and follow-up) was adopted between June 2021 and April 2022 on 102 community-dwelling older people who suffered from depressive symptoms and low quality of life in Amman Governorate.Significant differences were found among older people in pre-, post-, and follow-up therapy for depressive symptoms and quality of life. Post hoc tests showed a statistically significant reduction in symptoms and an improvement in quality of life from pre to post-intervention, which was sustained at follow-up.Results suggested that using creative art therapies as a therapeutic intervention for older persons was effective in minimizing depressive symptoms and improving quality of life. Aim Methods Results Conclusion The extent to which recent potentially traumatic events (PTEs) hinder the recovery from pre‐existing mental health problems is largely unknown. The same applies to the extent to which non‐recovery from pre‐existing mental health problems increases the risk of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The aim of the present study is to gain insight in these effects.Data were extracted from six annual surveys of the Dutch population‐based Victims in Modern Society (VICTIMS) study. Of the adult respondents who participated in two subsequent surveys (labeled T1 and T2, n = 6942), those with severe anxiety and depression symptoms (ADS) at T1 (n = 487) were selected. We distinguished respondents exposed to PTEs (PTE‐group, n = 162) and not exposed to PTEs (comparison group, n = 325) between T1 and T2. We applied five indicators of recovery [based on the Reliable Change Index (RCI), degrees of symptom reduction, and the cut‐off score at T2]. Differences in the recovery from ADS and probable PTSD at T2 were examined using multivariate logistic regression.The PTE group less often recovered from severe ADS between T1 and T2 than the comparison group according to all five indicators of recovery, while controlling for 11 different variables (0.40 ≤ adjusted OR's ≤ 0.66). Those in the PTE group who did not recover, considerably more often suffered from probable PTSD at T2 (63%–82%) than those who did recover (0%–29%; 8.96 ≤ adjusted OR ≤ 26.33).Recent potentially traumatic events hinder the recovery from pre‐existing anxiety and depression symptomatology and thereby increase the risk of probable PTSD. Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a neuromuscular disease of autoimmune etiology and chronic evolution. In addition to the muscle weakness and fatigue that characterize MG, in some studies patients show an inferior performance in cognitive tasks and difficulties in recognizing basic emotions from facial expressions. However, it remains unclear if these difficulties are due to anxious–depressive symptoms that these patients present or related to cognitive abilities, such as facial recognition. This study had a descriptive cross-sectional design with a sample of 92 participants, 52 patients with MG and 40 healthy controls. The data collection protocol included measures to assess recognition of facial expressions (BRFT), facial emotional expression (FEEL), and levels of anxiety and depression (HADS). The MG group had worse performance than the control group in recognizing "fear" (p = 0.001; r = 0.344), "happiness" (p = 0.000; r = 0.580), "disgust" (p = 0.000; r = 0.399), "surprise" (p = 0.000; r = 0.602), and "anger" (p = 0.007; r = 0.284). Likewise, the MG group also underperformed in facial recognition (p = 0.001; r = 0.338). These difficulties were not related to their levels of anxiety and depression. Alterations were observed both in the recognition of facial emotions and in facial recognition, without being mediated by emotional variables. Purpose: This is a secondary analysis of a multi-site, cluster (site) randomized trial of the efficacy of a combined Health and Wellness Cognitive Behavior Therapy (H&W CBT) and medication management approach for depression in youth with HIV (YWH) compared to standard care. In this study, we explored the association between H&W CBT factors and depression outcomes after 24 weeks of treatment to discover treatment elements associated with symptom reduction. Methods: Participants (12–24 years of age) were YWH in the United States (US) diagnosed with moderate to severe depression [Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology (QIDS), Clinician-Rated score ≥ 11]. Thirteen US sites were randomly assigned to either the combination treatment approach or standard care. For site-level analyses, site-specific summary scores were used to account for the within site correlation. Results (all scores are site-level): The number of depressive symptoms [QIDS-Self Reported (QIDS-SR) score] after 24 weeks of H&W CBT was significantly negatively correlated with the mean total session duration (ρ = − 0.94), the total homework assigned (ρ = − 0.83), the total number of practice modules used (ρ = − 0.83), and the mean total booster sessions given (ρ = − 0.82). Conclusions: Specific elements of the H&W CBT (e.g., dose, assignment of homework, greater skills practice, and use of booster sessions) were associated with improvement of depression outcomes in YWH. Introduction: Although there is potential for the menstrual cycle to impact psychophysiological responses to exercise, there has been a paucity of studies investigating this aspect, specifically in the context of high-intensity interval training (HIIT). Purpose: This exploratory study aimed to examine the psychophysiological responses to HIIT over the menstrual cycle. Methods: Twenty-three healthy and physically active young women were recruited. Each woman completed a cycle ergometer HIIT session in the menstrual, follicular, and luteal phases of the menstrual cycle in a random order. Psychophysiological variables of interest were collected at baseline, and during and after exercise. Primary variables of interest were anxiety, mood, motivation, enjoyment, arousal, affect, and menstrual distress. Results: Higher pain, water retention, behavior change (related to social interactions, eating habits, and self-performance), and autonomic reactions (consisting of nausea, dizziness, hot flashes, and cold sweats) were observed before HIIT during the menstrual phase compared with the follicular phase (P < 0.05). Participants exhibited worse psychological responses to HIIT sessions during the menstrual phase, followed by the luteal phase. Findings also noted participants arrived to the laboratory with lower motivation to initiate HIIT sessions during the luteal and menstrual phases compared with the follicular phase. This difference was observed before and during HIIT. Motivation and depressive symptoms showed a significant reduction from pre-HIIT to post-HIIT (P < 0.05), regardless of menstrual phase. Conclusions: The findings revealed that the menstrual cycle had a significant impact on psychophysiological responses. Moreover, HIIT could be adopted to improve motivation and depressive symptoms; however, further research is needed to explore the effects of HIIT across the menstrual cycle in women with clinical depression. An estimated 30 % of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) patients exhibit resistance to conventional antidepressant treatments. Identifying reliable biomarkers of treatment-resistant depression (TRD) represents a major goal of precision psychiatry, which is hampered by the clinical and biological heterogeneity. To uncover biologically-driven subtypes of MDD, we applied an unsupervised data-driven framework to stratify 102 MDD patients on their neuroimaging signature, including extracted measures of cortical thickness, grey matter volumes, and white matter fractional anisotropy. Our novel analytical pipeline integrated different machine learning algorithms to harmonize data, perform data dimensionality reduction, and provide a stability-based relative clustering validation. The obtained clusters were characterized for immune-inflammatory peripheral biomarkers, TRD, history of childhood trauma and depressive symptoms. Our results indicated two different clusters of patients, differentiable with 67 % of accuracy: one cluster (n = 59) was associated with a higher proportion of TRD, and higher scores of energy-related depressive symptoms, history of childhood abuse and emotional neglect; this cluster showed a widespread reduction in cortical thickness (d = 0.43–1.80) and volumes (d = 0.45–1.05), along with fractional anisotropy in the fronto-occipital fasciculus, stria terminalis, and corpus callosum (d = 0.46–0.52); the second cluster (n = 43) was associated with cognitive and affective depressive symptoms, thicker cortices and wider volumes. Multivariate analyses revealed distinct brain-inflammation relationships between the two clusters, with increase in pro-inflammatory markers being associated with decreased cortical thickness and volumes. Our stratification of MDD patients based on structural neuroimaging identified clinically-relevant subgroups of MDD with specific symptomatic and immune-inflammatory profiles, which can contribute to the development of tailored personalized interventions for MDD. Background: Adults with advanced cancer experience profound future uncertainty, reflected in elevated fear of cancer progression (FoP) and cancer-related trauma symptoms. These symptoms are associated with physical symptom burden and poorer quality of life, and few interventions exist to manage them. Objective: To develop and pilot a written exposure-based coping intervention (EASE) focused on worst-case scenarios among adults with advanced cancer reporting elevated cancer-related trauma symptoms or FoP. Design: A single-arm intervention development and pilot trial. Participants: The trial enrolled 29 U.S. adults with stage III or stage IV solid tumor cancer (n = 24) or incurable or higher-risk blood cancer (n = 5) reporting elevated cancer-related trauma symptoms or FoP. Among those screened, 74% were eligible, with an eligible-to-enrolled rate of 85%. Design/Measurements: EASE was delivered over five 1:1 videoconferencing sessions. Feasibility and acceptability were evaluated via attendance, surveys, and exit interviews. Outcomes were assessed at five time points through 3-month (FU1, main assessment of interest) and 4.5-month (FU2) follow-up. Results: Participant and interventionist feedback was used to iteratively refine EASE. Among participants, 86% (25/29) completed all five sessions and FU1; surveys and exit interviews indicated high acceptability. Primary outcomes of cancer-related trauma symptoms and FoP improved significantly from pre to both follow-ups by predominantly large effect sizes. Secondary outcomes of anxiety, depression, hopelessness, fear of death/dying, and fatigue, and most process measures improved significantly by FU1 or FU2. Conclusions: EASE, a novel adaptation of written exposure therapy, is a promising approach to reducing FoP and cancer-related trauma symptoms among adults with advanced cancer that warrants further study. The current study examined whether social competence and autistic traits are related to anxiety and depression in autistic and non-autistic children. Parents of 340 children aged 6 to 12 years old, including 186 autistic and 154 non-autistic children completed the Autism Spectrum Quotient (AQ) to assess their child's autistic traits, the Multidimensional Social Competence Scale (MSCS) to assess their child's social competence, and the Behaviour Assessment Scale for Children 2 (BASC-2) to assess their child's internalizing symptoms of depression and anxiety, and children were administered the Wechsler Abbreviated Scale of Intelligence, Second Edition (WASI-II) to assess their intellectual abilities. Hierarchical multiple regression analyses were conducted to investigate the relations between social competence, autistic traits, anxiety, and depression. Social competence was related to anxiety and depression symptoms in autistic children, but only depression symptoms in non-autistic children, above and beyond the effects of autistic traits, IQ and age. Autistic children were also reported to experience more severe anxiety and depression symptoms, and more autistic traits were related to higher levels of anxiety and depression in both groups. These findings suggest that social competence and internalizing symptoms are intricately connected in autistic children and need to be jointly considered in both assessment and intervention. Self-regulation (SR) difficulties are implicated in a wide range of disorders which develop in childhood, including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), oppositional defiance disorder (ODD), anxiety and depression. However, the integration of the existing research evidence is challenging because of varying terminology and the wide range of tasks used, as well as the heterogeneity and comorbidity within and across diagnostic categories. The current study used the Research Domain Criteria (RDoC) framework to guide the examination of different SR processes in young children showing a wide range of symptomatology. Children (aged 4–8) referred by teachers for moderate-to-high conduct, hyperactivity and/or emotional problems at school (assessed using the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) subscales; n = 212), and children in SDQ typical ranges (n = 30) completed computerised cognitive control and decision-making tasks. Parents completed questionnaires to assess ADHD, ODD, anxiety and depression symptoms (n = 191). Compared to children with no teacher-reported difficulties, those with moderate-to-high problems showed poorer visuomotor control and decision-making. A factor analysis revealed that task variables adhered to RDoC dimensions and predicted variance in specific disorders: difficulties in cognitive control predicted ADHD symptoms, low reward-seeking was associated with depression and high reward-seeking was associated with ODD. This study highlights how the assessment of cognitive processes positioned within the RDoC framework can inform our understanding of disorder-specific and transdiagnostic difficulties in SR which are associated with diverse clinical symptoms in children. Objective: Two similar but distinct versions of prolonged grief disorder (PGD) have recently been included in the International Classification of Diseases eleventh edition (ICD-11) and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders – fifth edition, Text-Revision (DSM -5-TR). This study provides a criterion validity test of both new criteria sets of PGD, by examining concurrent and longitudinal associations of ICD-11 and DSM -5-TR prolonged grief symptoms with quality of life (QOL). Methods: Bereaved adults completed a survey assessing ICD-11 and DSM -5-TR prolonged grief symptoms, depressive symptoms, insomnia symptoms and QOL at baseline and 6-month follow-up. Results: Both ICD-11 and DSM -5-TR prolonged grief symptoms related negatively to QOL concurrently, while controlling for insomnia and depressive symptoms. ICD-11 prolonged grief symptoms, but not DSM -5-TR prolonged grief symptoms, predicted QOL at 6-month follow-up, while controlling for baseline QOL and insomnia and depression symptoms. Conclusions: Results provide consistent evidence for the criterion validity of ICD-11 PGD, but mixed evidence for the criterion validity of DSM -5-TR PGD. Interoception refers to the sensation and perception of internal bodily sensations, and may be related to depressive symptoms. Schemata concerning the body vary across different cultures and may influence interoception and symptom presentations of depression. This study explored the relationship between interoception, depressive symptoms, and schema of somatic focus in Chinese people with subsyndromal depression. Thirty‐nine individuals with subsyndromal depression (SD) and 40 healthy controls (HCs) were assessed at baseline and after 3 months. Participants completed the self‐report questionnaires for assessing interoceptive sensibility, somatic and psychological symptoms of depression, and somatization tendency. They also completed the heartbeat perception behavioral task for estimating interoceptive accuracy. The results showed that both the SD and the HC groups showed similar interoceptive accuracy, although the SD group showed heightened interoceptive sensibility. The discrepancy between interoceptive sensibility and interoceptive accuracy is termed the interoceptive trait prediction error (ITPE). The ITPE was positive in SD participants but was negative in HCs. In the entire sample, interoceptive sensibility and the ITPE were correlated with somatic symptoms rather than with psychological symptoms of depression. Interoceptive sensibility partially mediated the relationship between somatization tendency and somatic symptoms, after controlling for psychological symptoms of depression. These results remained stable after 3 months. The shortcomings of the present study were a lack of clinical interview to ascertain diagnosis and a short follow‐up duration. In conclusion, our study suggests that altered interoception occurs in subsyndromal depression. Interoception is related to somatic symptoms of depression. Background The different clinical presentations of fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) might play independent roles in the unclear etiology of cognitive impairments and depressive symptoms seen in patients with FMS. Understanding how these clinical presentations are associated with the clinical and neurophysiological aspects of FMS is important for the development of effective treatments. Aim To explore the relationship of memory complaints and depressive symptoms with the different clinical and neurophysiological characteristics of FMS. Methods Cross-sectional data analysis from a randomized clinical trial. Baseline demographics and data on physical fitness, sleep, anxiety, depression, cortical excitability, and pain (clinical and mechanistic) from 63 subjects with FMS were used. Multiple linear and logistic association models were constructed. Results Final regression models including different sets of predictions were statistically significant (P  < .001), explaining approximately 50% of the variability in cognitive complaints and depression status. Older subjects had higher levels of anxiety, poorer sleep quality, lower motor threshold, and higher relative theta power in the central area and were more likely to have clinical depression. Higher anxiety, pain, and theta power were associated with a higher likelihood of memory complaints. Conclusion Depression symptoms seem to be associated with transcranial magnetic stimulation–indexed motor threshold and psychosocial variables, whereas memory complaints are associated with pain intensity and higher theta oscillations. These mechanisms might be catalyzed or triggered by some behavioral and clinical features, such as older age, sleep disruption, and anxiety. The correlation with clinical variables suggests that the increasing of theta oscillations is a compensatory response in patients with FMS, which can be explored in future studies to improve the treatment of FMS. Research has established the impact of paternal depression on fathering behaviors and child outcomes. Despite this, less is known about the mechanisms linking paternal depressive symptomology to paternal warmth, particularly regarding the role of parenting stress and beliefs in the centrality of the paternal role. The aim of this study was to examine factors potentially associated with paternal warmth. Specifically, we explored the association between paternal depressive symptomology and paternal warmth, examining the mediating role of paternal parenting stress in this association. Moreover, we tested the moderated role of beliefs in the centrality of the paternal role in the association between paternal parenting stress and paternal warmth. We utilized a subsample of fathers (n = 756; Mage = 34.3) with young children from the Survey of Contemporary Fatherhood study. Moderated mediation analysis was performed to test the association between paternal depressive symptomology, parenting stress, paternal warmth, and beliefs in the centrality of the paternal role among fathers. Results indicate a significant association between higher paternal depressive symptomology and increased parenting stress, which, in turn, was associated with reduced paternal warmth. Furthermore, positive beliefs in the centrality of the paternal role buffered the association between parenting stress and paternal warmth. These findings underscore the importance of considering parenting stress and fathering beliefs in psychosocial intervention programs aimed at improving fathering behaviors. Background: Available evidence points to a possible role of Short Chain Fatty Acids (SCFAs) in mood disorders. This is the first systematic review to map the associations between SCFA levels and mood disorder symptoms. Methods: Following the PRISMA guidelines, the databases PubMed, Embase, and PsycINFO were searched for studies that assessed SCFA levels in human populations with mood disorder symptoms, or animal models of mood disorder. Risk of bias was assessed by the Strengthening of Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (STROBE) checklist. Results: 19 studies were included and could be divided into animal (n=8) and human studies (n=11), with the animal studies including 166 animals and 100 controls, and the human studies including 662 participants and 330 controls. The studies were characterized by heterogeneity and methodological challenges on multiple parameters, limiting the validity and transferability of findings. Notably, only two of the clinical studies assessed the presence of mood disorder with diagnostic criteria, and no studies of mania or bipolar disorder met the inclusion criteria. Discussion: Despite significant methodological limitations, associations between SCFA levels and depressive symptoms were reported in most of the studies. However, the direction of these associations and the specific SCFAs identified varied. The quantification of SCFA levels in mood disorders is an emerging yet sparsely studied research field. Although there is some evidence suggesting a link between SCFAs and depressive symptoms, the directionality of effects and mechanisms are unclear and the relation to manic symptoms is uninvestigated. Depression and anxiety are the most frequent neuropsychiatric symptoms of multiple sclerosis (MS), an autoimmune-mediated demyelinating neurodegenerative disease. Their prevalence is 25–65% and 20–54%, respectively, often associated with chronic fatigue and cognitive impairment, but usually not correlated with motor and other deficits, suggesting different pathophysiological mechanisms. Both disorders often arise before MS diagnosis, lead to faster disability and impair the quality of life. Risk factors are (young) age, genetic and family history burden. While no specific neuropathological data for depression (and anxiety) in MS are available, modern neuroimaging studies showed bilateral fronto-temporal, subcortical and limbic atrophies, microstructural white matter lesions and disruption of frontoparietal, limbic and neuroendocrine networks. The pathogenesis of both depression and anxiety in MS is related to shared mechanisms including oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, neuroinflammation and neuroendocrine mechanisms inducing complex functional and structural brain lesions, but they are also influenced by social and other factors. Unfortunately, MS patients with anxiety, major depression or suicidal thoughts are often underassessed and undertreated. Current treatment, in addition to antidepressant therapy include transcranial magnetic stimulation, cognitive, relaxation, dietary and other healthcare measures that must be individualized. The present state-of- the-art review is based on systematic analysis of PubMed, Google Scholar and Cochrane Library until May 2024, with focus on the prevalence, clinical manifestation, neuroimaging data, immune mechanisms and treatment options. Depression and anxiety in MS, like in many other neuroimmune disorders, are related, among others, to multi-regional patterns of cerebral disturbances and complex pathogenic mechanisms that deserve further elucidation as a basis for early diagnosis and adequate management to improve the quality of life in this disabling disease. The paper presents a computing procedure with the goal of suggesting applicable solutions to improve complex cases of major recurrent depression. The focus is on identifying the patients' illness patterns and on finding solutions for alleviating problematic symptoms. The illness patterns synthesize the outcomes of the relationship between the patients' life themes and symptoms. The testing of the effectiveness of illness improvement solutions was conducted by evaluating and comparing the Beck scores of patients after each psychotherapy session. In addition to latent semantic analysis used to identify semantic relationships between life themes and symptoms, the research also employed the correlation method to find life themes/symptoms that are experienced undistortedly and associations between life themes that amplify latent symptoms. The computing system was applied to eleven patients with severe forms of depression and their progress was monitored for six months. The results obtained following the application of the computing system demonstrated its ability to describe personalized illness patterns and to significantly improve, through its suggestions, the illness of all patients. Background. Anxiety is independently associated with severe quality of life impairment and severe postmenopausal symptoms. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship of early postmenopausal symptoms, sexual function, and serum levels of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) with anxiety scores. Methods. In this cross-sectional descriptive correlational study, 117 eligible postmenopausal women aged 50-60 years with mild to moderate anxiety were selected using convenience sampling method. The Beck Anxiety Inventory, Green's Menopause Symptoms Scale, and Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) were completed. Data were analyzed using Pearson and Spearman tests and linear regression model. Results. By adjusting the confounding variables, the total score of FSFI and its sub)domains had no statistically significant relationship with Beck Anxiety Inventory score (P>0.05). The total score of Greene Climacteric Scale (r=0.535; P<0.001) and sub-domains of anxiety (r=0.448; P<0.001), depression (r=0.344; P<0.001), and physical symptoms (r=0.509; P<0.001), as well as the serum level of DHEA (r=-0.754; P<0.001) had statistically significant relationship with Beck Anxiety Inventory score. The total score of Greene Climacteric Scale and its sub-domains, except for the sexual dimension, and DHEA level could predict anxiety score. Conclusion. The score of menopausal symptoms and its subdomains, except for the sexual domain and DHEA level, could predict the anxiety score. The findings of this study show the importance of the relationship between early menopause symptoms and serum level of dihydroepiandrosterone with anxiety score in postmenopausal women. Background: This meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate potential differences in symptoms between PD patients with or without RBD. Methods: A systematic search was conducted in PubMed, Cochrane, Embase, and Web of Science databases (as of August 16, 2023), to identify relevant studies on PD and RBD. Statistical analysis was performed using Stata 15.0. Continuous variables were analyzed using the standardized mean difference (SMD) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI), while count data were assessed using the odds ratio (OR) and 95% CI as statistical effect sizes. Heterogeneity among all included studies was tested; for studies with low heterogeneity (I² < 50%), a fixed-effects model was used to calculate statistical results. For studies with relatively high heterogeneity (I² > 50%), a random-effects model was applied, followed by sensitivity and subgroup analyses to identify sources of heterogeneity. Results: A total of 5,672 subjects were involved in this study. Compared to the NRBD group, the UPDRS-III score in the RBD group was significantly higher (SMD = 0.20, 95% CI: [0.11, 0.29], P < 0.001), and the Hoehn-Yahr score in the RBD group was also significantly higher (SMD = 0.29, 95% CI: [0.03, 0.55], P < 0.001). Patients with PD in the RBD group had more severe cognitive impairments than those in the NRBD group (SMD = -0.30, 95% CI: [-0.48, -0.11], P < 0.001). The incidence of hallucination in PD patients in the RBD group was 3.0 times that of the NRBD group (OR = 3.0, 95% CI: [2.15, 4.20], P = 0.110). PD patients in the RBD group also experienced more severe anxiety symptoms (SMD = 0.13, 95% CI: [-0.26, 0.51], P < 0.001), had higher scores in depression scales (SMD = 0.22, 95% CI: [0.02, 0.43], P < 0.001), and higher scores in sleep disorder scales than those in NRBD group (SMD = 0.10, 95% CI: [-0.11, 0.31], P < 0.001). Conclusion: Results show PD patients with co-occurring RBD have more severe motor and non-motor symptoms likely due to overlapping affected regions in RBD and PD-related pathology, plus broader neurodegeneration seen in PD patients with RBD. Here we report on a case of a 61-year-old female patient with 7-year history of major depressive disorder with shorter-duration hypomanic episodes who was prescribed with antidepressants which turned out to be ineffective. After a COVID-19 infection, the patient's clinical presentation became sufficient for the diagnosis of bipolar disorder and she was consistently effective on a mood stabilizer and an atypical antipsychotic. The course of treatment in this case suggests bipolar disorder is not a binary disorder, but a continuous spectrum disorder. For patients suffering from major depressive disorder with shorterduration hypomanic episodes, mood stabilizers and atypical antipsychotics are possibly more suitable than antidepressants. Major depressive disorder (MDD) represents a major health issue in adolescents and young adults, leading to high levels of disability and profoundly impacting overall functioning. The clinical presentation of MDD in this vulnerable age group may slightly differ from what can be observed in adult populations, and psychopharmacological strategies do not always lead to optimal response. Resistance to antidepressant treatment has a prevalence estimated around 40% in youths suffering from MDD and is associated with higher comorbidity rates and suicidality. Several factors, encompassing biological, environmental, and clinical features, may contribute to the emergence of treatment-resistant depression (TRD) in adolescents and young adults. Furthermore, TRD may underpin the presence of an unrecognized bipolar diathesis, increasing the overall complexity of the clinical picture and posing major differential diagnosis challenges in the clinical practice. After summarizing current evidence on epidemiological and clinical correlates of TRD in adolescents and young adults, the present review also provides an overview of possible treatment strategies, including novel fast-acting antidepressants. Despite these pharmacological agents are promising in this population, their usage is expected to rely on risk-benefit ratio and to be considered in the context of integrated models of care. Background: Neuroinflammatory processes in depression are associated with treatment resistance to conventional antidepressants. Ketamine is an effective new therapeutic option for treatment-resistant depression (TRD). Its wellestablished immunomodulatory properties are hypothesized to mediate its antidepressant effect. In this context, higher levels of inflammation may predict a better treatment response. However, conclusive evidence for this hypothesis is lacking. We thus investigated whether standard peripheral inflammatory cell markers and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels could predict symptom improvement during intravenous ketamine therapy in TRD patients. Methods: 27 participants with TRD were treated with six weight-adjusted intravenous ketamine infusions (0.5 mg/kg bodyweight) over three weeks. Baseline assessments included CRP, absolute monocyte count (AMC), and absolute neutrophil count (ANC). Depression severity was measured using the Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) at baseline (D1), after the first (D3) and before the last ketamine infusion (D18). Raters were blinded for the baseline laboratory assessments. Results: 13 participants responded to ketamine treatment, and 8 participants partially responded. Baseline AMC showed a strong negative correlation with MADRS change at D3 (r=-0.57, p=0.002) and at D18 (r =-0.48, p=0.010), indicating that a high baseline AMC was associated with greater symptom improvement. A generalized linear model confirmed the association of baseline AMC with symptom improvement during ketamine treatment when additionally accounting for age, sex, and body mass index. Specifically, baseline AMC demonstrated predictive value to discriminate responders and partial responders from non-responders, but lacked discriminative ability between partial responders and responders. Baseline ANC correlated with the MADRS changes at D3 (r=-0.39, p=0.046), while CRP values did not correlate at all. Conclusions: Our prospective single-arm open-label observational study demonstrated that baseline AMC reliably predicted symptom improvement during intravenous ketamine treatment in TRD patients. AMC could therefore serve as a simple and easily accessible marker for symptom improvement during ketamine therapy in daily clinical practice. Future studies with larger sample sizes and a more detailed longitudinal assessment of AMC subtypes are needed to better understand the specific relationship between monocytes and the neuromodulatory effects of ketamine. Background: Parent-child separation poses a significant challenge for left-behind children (LBC). However, limited empirical evidence exists regarding the correlation between left-behind characteristics and the psychological symptoms of LBC. This study investigated psychological symptoms among LBC and explored associations between left-behind characteristics and those symptoms. Methods: Using stratified cluster sampling, 1,832 LBC aged 13–18 years from three cities in East China were selected for analysis. Participants' depression and anxiety symptoms were assessed with the Patient Health Questionnaire 9 and the General Anxiety Disorder 7, respectively. Chi-square tests were used to compare differences in detection rates of psychological symptoms among LBC in different groups. Binary logistic regression analysis was used to infer associations between left-behind characteristics and psychological symptoms. Results: Depression and anxiety symptoms were detected in 32.86% and 33.24%, respectively, of participating LBC. Univariate analysis showed statistically significant differences in detection rates of depression symptoms by sex, grade, and timing of parent-child separation. Statistically significant differences were observed in anxiety symptom rates by sex, grade, type of caregiver, and timing of mother-child separation. Multivariate analysis indicated a positive association between LBC's anxiety symptoms and mother-child separation that occurred during post-primary school, and type of caregiver (father only or mother only). Our findings confirm a positive association between left-behind characteristics and anxiety symptoms among LBC. Objective: To explore the mediating roles of activities of daily living (ADL) and economic burden of diseases in the relationship between chronic diseases and depressive symptoms of older adults. Methods: The data were sourced from China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). The number of chronic diseases, ADL, out-of-pocket medical expenses and the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CES-D) were selected as measuring indexes. Mediation analysis was conducted to explore the potential mediating roles of ADL and economic burden of diseases in the association between chronic diseases and depressive symptoms. Results: The number of chronic diseases, ADL, economic burden of diseases and depressive symptoms of older adults were significantly correlated with each other. ADL and economic burden of diseases individually mediated the relationship between the number of chronic diseases and depressive symptoms, accounting for 31.460% and 5.471% of the total effect, respectively. Additionally, ADL and economic burden of diseases demonstrated a chain mediating effect in this relationship, contributing to 0.759% of the total effect. Conclusion: The chain-mediated model effectively elucidated the mediating roles of ADL and economic burden of diseases in the association between chronic diseases and depressive symptoms among older adults. The study underscores the need for policymakers to focus attentively on the mental health of older adults with chronic diseases. Enhancing the capacity for ADL and strengthening social security to mitigate the economic burden of diseases are recommended strategies to alleviate depressive symptoms in older adults. This study aimed to explore the association of age with individual depression and anxiety symptoms and their connectivity (i.e., number/strength of connections with other symptoms) in girls and boys. Our study comprised cross-sectional data from 31,960 Dutch girls and 32,162 Dutch boys aged 8 to 18 and considered 11 depression symptoms and 14 anxiety symptoms measured by the Revised Child Anxiety and Depression Scale. Network estimations were used to examine whether age was associated with individual symptoms and, in a separate step, with the connectivity of depression symptoms with other depression symptoms and with the connectivity of depression symptoms with anxiety symptoms. Age was, in general, positively associated with depression symptoms in girls, but not in boys, and with the connectivity of depression symptoms with other depression symptoms in both sexes. These findings were the most profound for energy-related symptoms in girls. Age was, in general, negatively associated with anxiety symptoms and not or negatively associated with the connectivity of depression symptoms with anxiety symptoms in girls and boys, respectively. Substantial differences across symptoms were found. This study shows that it is important to focus on individual symptoms, for age is mainly associated with energy-related depression symptoms and their connectivity in girls. Future etiologic studies may examine the role of energy-related depression symptoms in the development of depressive symptomatology in girls as these symptoms seem potential targets for the prevention of depression in the female population. To improve understanding of Capgras syndrome (CS) in the pediatric population, this study investigates its clinical features and discerns similarities and differences compared to CS in adults. We conducted a descriptive systematic review of case reports following PRISMA guidelines, including cases of pediatric patients with CS. Patient demographics, medical and psychiatric history, imposter identity, underlying diagnosis, clinical manifestation, treatments, and outcomes were extracted and analyzed. We included 37 articles comprising 38 cases. The median age of patients was 15, with 23 (60.5%) being male. The most prevalent underlying diagnoses were schizophrenia spectrum and other psychotic disorders (47.3%). Imposter identity involved parents in 32 cases (84.2%). Associated symptoms included persecutory delusions (63.1%), auditory hallucinations (42.1%), aggression (31.5%), and depression (21.0%). There is a significant gap in our understanding of CS, particularly in pediatric patients. Using data from the 2018 and 2020 waves of the Health and Retirement Study, this research examined the effect of financial hardship experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of older Americans. Estimates from the ordinary least squares and logistic regressions showed that individuals who experienced income shocks, particularly those with decreased retirement savings/assets income, reported more depressive symptoms and a higher likelihood of depression. Similarly, financial hardship measured as the number of financial arrears was found to be positively correlated with depression symptoms and the onset of depression. Depression symptomatology and onsets were mainly influenced by pandemic-related shocks to retirement/assets income among retired individuals and by earnings shocks among nonretired respondents. Objective: Pediatric postacute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 or "long COVID" is a multisystemic disease with a wide range of symptoms more than 4 wks after initial infection. This study explores the quality of life in children with long COVID and how preexisting conditions affect symptoms and quality of life. Design: A retrospective single-center study of 97 patients was completed to analyze PedsQL quality of life in pediatric patients with long COVID and associations between preexisting conditions, long COVID symptoms, and PedsQL scores. Results: Children with long COVID had significantly lower quality of life compared with previously published normative samples (PedsQL Core: P < 0.001; Fatigue: P < 0.001; Family Impact: P < 0.001). Number of long COVID symptoms, age, and preexisting history of depression, allergies, and developmental delay affected the overall fatigue PedsQL scores. Preexisting mood disorders were associated with a higher prevalence of worsening mental health symptoms (anxiety, P = 0.01; depression, P = 0.04), dizziness/lightheadedness/vertigo (P = 0.02), and change in appetite (P = 0.04). Conclusions: Long COVID has a significant impact on the quality of life of children and their families. This article examines characteristics and pathogenesis of long COVID in children and adolescents, and their implications for nursing management. Long COVID is a complex set of symptoms that follows a SARS-CoV-2 infection. After the acute phase, children can develop long COVID with symptoms that vary in intensity and duration, and do not necessarily present progressively. Long COVID is a growing health concern among children because its symptoms often overlap and fluctuate. Symptoms depend upon the organ affected, and can consist of shortness of breath, extreme fatigue, headache, and cognitive and memory issues, among many others. Most children with long COVID tend to be adolescents, with females more commonly affected than males. A post-viral autoimmune injury is a probable cause of long COVID syndrome. Nurses need to consider that while physical symptoms are likely foremost, feelings of stress, anxiety, anger, and depression among children and adolescents are also present. Most of the common models to examine depression are one-factor models; however, previous studies provided several-factor structure models on each depressive symptom using the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9). The Nine-Questions Depression-Rating Scale (9Q) is an alternative assessment tool that was developed for assessing the severity of depressive symptoms in Thai adults. This study aimed to examine the factor structure of this tool based on the factor structure models for the PHQ-9 provided in previous studies using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). We also examined the association of chronic diseases and depressive symptoms using the Multiple Indicators Multiple Causes model among 1346 participants aged 19 years old or more without psychiatric disorders. The results show that the two-factor CFA model with six items in the cognitive-affective domain and three items in the somatic domain provided the best fit for depressive symptoms in the study population (RMSEA = 0.077, CFI = 0.953, TLI = 0.936). Dyslipidemia was positively associated with both cognitive-affective symptoms (β = 0.120) and somatic depressive symptoms (β = 0.080). Allergies were associated with a higher level of cognitive-affective depressive symptoms (β = 0.087), while migraine (β = 0.114) and peptic ulcer disease (β = 0.062) were associated with a higher level of somatic symptoms. Increased age was associated with a lower level of somatic symptoms (β = −0.088). Our findings suggested that considering depressive symptoms as two dimensions yields a better fit for depressive symptoms. In this pilot and exploratory study, we tested the robustness of three self-report symptom validity tests (SVTs) to symptom coaching for depression, with and without additional information available on the Internet. Specifically, we divided our sample (N = 193) so that each subject received either the Structured Inventory of Malingered Symptomatology (SIMS; n = 64), the Self-Report Symptom Inventory (SRSI; n = 66), or the Inventory of Problems-29 (IOP-29; n = 63). Within each of the three subgroups, approximately one third of participants were instructed to respond honestly (Genuine Condition, nSIMS = 21; nSRSI = 24; nIOP-29 = 26) and approximately two-thirds were instructed to feign depression. One half of the feigners were presented with a vignette to increase their compliance with instructions and were given information about symptoms of depression (Coached Feigning, nSIMS = 25; nSRSI = 18; nIOP-29 = 21), and the other half were given the same vignette and information about symptoms of depression, plus two Internet links to review before completing the test (Internet-Coached Feigning, nSIMS = 18; nSRSI = 24; nIOP-29 = 16). Overall, the results showed that the genuine conditions yielded the lowest total scores on all three measures, while the two feigning conditions did not significantly differ from each other. Looking at the detection rates for all feigning participants, all three measures showed satisfactory results, with IOP-29 performing slightly better than SIMS and SIMS performing slightly better than SRSI. Internet-Coached Feigners scored slightly lower on all three measures than feigners who were coached without the Internet links. Taken together, the results of this preliminary and exploratory study suggest that all three SVTs examined are sensitive to feigned depression even in the presence of symptom coaching, both with and without additional Internet-based information. The Unified Protocol (UP) theoretically leads to reductions in emotional disorder symptoms by reducing aversive reactions to emotions. However, aversive reactions can take many forms (e.g., non-acceptance, behavioral avoidance). We examined if (1) multiple aspects of aversive reactivity predicted session-to-session changes in anxiety and depression in the UP, (2) these aspects reflected a single latent construct, and (3) changes in this latent construct predicted changes in anxiety and depression. Participants (N = 70, Mage = 33.74, 67.1% female, 74.3% white) completed six sessions of UP modules and measures of aversive reactivity, anxiety, and depression before each session. We used hierarchical linear modeling and random-intercept cross-lagged panel models to test aspects of aversive reactivity and a latent factor of aversive reactivity, respectively, as predictors of session-to-session changes in anxiety and depression. Within-person improvements in four of five aspects of aversive reactivity predicted decreases in anxiety, and improvements in two aspects predicted decreases in depression. However, within-person improvements in latent aversive reactivity predicted decreases in anxiety at five sessions and in depression across all sessions. These results add to the growing literature highlighting the role of aversive reactivity as a potential transdiagnostic process involved in improvements in emotional disorder symptoms during treatment. Research criteria for the diagnosis of prodromal dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) include three clinical subtypes: mild cognitive impairment with Lewy bodies (MCI‐LB), delirium‐onset prodromal DLB, and psychiatric‐onset prodromal DLB. Late‐onset psychiatric manifestations are at a higher risk of developing dementia, but its relation to prodromal DLB remains unclear. In addition to the risk of severe antipsychotic hypersensitivity reactions, accurate discrimination from non‐DLB cases is important due to the potential differences in management and prognosis. This article aims to review a rapidly evolving psychiatric topic and outline clinical pictures of psychiatric‐onset prodromal DLB, including the proposed biomarker findings of MCI‐LB: polysomnography‐confirmed rapid eye movement sleep behaviour disorder, cardiac [123I]metaiodobenzylguanidine scintigraphy, and striatal dopamine transporter imaging. We first reviewed clinical pictures of patients with autopsy‐confirmed DLB. Regarding clinical reports, we focused on the patients who predominantly presented with psychiatric manifestations and subsequently developed DLB. Thereafter, we reviewed clinical studies regarding the diagnostic applications of the proposed biomarkers to patients with late‐onset psychiatric disorders. Clinical presentations were mainly late‐onset depression and psychosis; however, other clinical manifestations were also reported. Psychotropic medications before a DLB diagnosis may cause extrapyramidal signs, and potentially influences the proposed biomarker findings. These risks complicate clinical manifestation interpretation during the management of psychiatric symptoms. Longitudinal follow‐up studies with standardised evaluations until conversion to DLB are needed to investigate the temporal trajectories of core features and proposed biomarker findings. In patients with late‐onset psychiatric disorders, identification of patients with psychiatric‐onset prodromal DLB provides the opportunity to better understanding the distinct prognostic subgroup that is at great risk of incident dementia. Introduction: With the prolongation of the COVID‐19 pandemic, more individuals are experiencing sequelae after COVID‐19 infection, also known as post‐acute COVID‐19 syndrome (PCS). The aims of this study were to describe the prevalence and characteristics of PCS symptoms such as fatigue, anxiety, and depression and to compare these symptoms according to participant characteristics in patients who had been previously hospitalized due to COVID‐19. Design: A descriptive cross‐sectional study design was used. Methods: We included 114 individuals who had been hospitalized for COVID‐19 and were discharged from the hospital at least 4 weeks before. Symptoms were assessed using the Fatigue Severity Scale, the Hospital Anxiety‐Depression Scale, and the PCS symptom questionnaire developed by the authors. We used descriptive statistics, the Student's t‐test, the Wilcoxon rank‐sum test, and the Kruskal–Wallis test for statistical analyses. Results: The most prevalent symptoms were anxiety (66.7%), fatigue (64.0%), headache (57.9%), and concentration or memory difficulties (57.9%). Concentration or memory difficulties and sleep disturbances had the highest mean frequency. Concentration or memory difficulties were rated with the highest mean severity, and cough, loss of taste, and muscle and joint pain had the highest mean distress scores. Female participants, individuals hospitalized for more than 2 weeks, individuals discharged more than 9 months ago, unvaccinated patients, and those who tried at least one symptom relief method reported higher symptom distress. Conclusion: The findings of this investigation into the frequency, severity, and distress of symptoms shed light on the identification of post‐COVID symptoms in detail. To objectively evaluate and comprehend the symptom trajectories of PCS, prospective studies about the development of symptom assessment tools and studies with a longitudinal design should be conducted. Background: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a functional disorder commonly associated with extra‐intestinal symptoms. However, the prevalence of these symptoms according to IBS subtype is not well established. Aim: To compare the prevalence of extra‐intestinal symptoms among patients with different subtypes of IBS. Methods: A descriptive cross‐sectional study including patients with IBS according to Rome IV criteria was performed between July 2022 and April 2023. Patients were classified according their subtype of IBS: IBS‐D (diarrhea‐predominant), IBS‐C (constipation‐predominant), and IBS‐M (mixed bowel habits). Patients completed the IBS severity scoring system questionnaire (IBS‐SSS) to determine severity of IBS symptoms and patient health questionnaire‐ 9 (PHQ‐9) to define presence and severity of depressive symptoms. The prevalence of reported extra‐intestinal symptoms was also assessed and compared between groups. Key Results: A total of 4862 patients with IBS were included; 608 IBS‐D (12.5%), 1978 IBS‐C (40.7%), and 2276 IBS‐M (46.8%). Patients with IBS‐C had significantly lower IBS‐symptoms severity (mean IBS‐SSS 290 vs. 310 and 320 for IBS‐D and IBS‐M, respectively, p = 0.03). The prevalence of obesity was also significantly lower in these patients (17.1% vs. 30.9% IBS‐D and 27.9% IBS‐M, p = 0.0001). Patients with IBS‐D showed a significantly higher prevalence of food intolerance perception (9.5%, p = 0.03), history of cholecystectomy (17.8%, p = 0.03), and fecal incontinence (36.2%, p = 0.0001) as compared to the other groups. Patients with IBS‐M had significantly higher mean PHQ‐9 score (12.7 vs. 11.1 IBS‐D and 10.5 IBS‐C, p = 0.001) and prevalence of depressive symptoms (80.0%, p = 0.01). Patients with IBS‐M also had higher prevalence of extra‐intestinal symptoms such as arthralgia (62.4%, p = 0.0001), extremity numbness (64.5%, p = 0.0001), atopic dermatitis (28.2%, p = 0.02), and chronic cervicalgia (81.0%, p = 0.01). Conclusions & Inferences: The prevalence of most extra‐intestinal symptoms is higher among patients with IBS‐M. OBJECTIVES: To identify subgroups of patients with distinct cough occurrence profiles and evaluate for differences among these subgroups. SAMPLE & SETTING: Outpatients receiving chemotherapy (N = 1,338) completed questionnaires six times over two chemotherapy cycles. METHODS & VARIABLES: Occurrence of cough was assessed using the Memorial Symptom Assessment Scale. Latent class analysis was used to identify subgroups with distinct cough occurrence profiles. Parametric and nonparametric tests were used to evaluate for differences. RESULTS: Four distinct cough profiles were identified (None, Decreasing, Increasing, and High). Risk factors associated with membership in the High class included lower annual household income; history of smoking; self-reported diagnoses of lung disease, heart disease, and back pain; and having lung cancer. OBJECTIVES: To phenotype the psychoneurologic (PN) symptom cluster in individuals with metastatic breast cancer and associate those phenotypes with individual characteristics and cancer genomic variables from circulating tumor DNA. SAMPLE & SETTING: This study included 201 individuals with metastatic breast cancer recruited in western Pennsylvania. METHODS & VARIABLES: A descriptive, crosssectional design was used. Symptom data were collected via the MD Anderson Symptom Inventory, and cancer genomic data were collected via ultralow-pass whole-genome sequencing of circulating tumor DNA from participant blood. RESULTS: Three distinct PN symptom phenotypes were described in a population with metastatic breast cancer: mild symptoms, moderate symptoms, and severe mood-related symptoms. Breast cancer TP53 deletion was significantly associated with membership in a moderate to severe symptoms phenotype (p = 0.013). IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING: Specific cancer genomic changes associated with increased genomic instability may be predictive of PN symptoms.
