Purpose: Numbers of studies have demonstrated that estrogen receptor α and estrogen receptor β have been involved in development of gastric cancer. Hence, we analyzed studies and The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) data of ERs expression and perform this meta-analysis to access the association between ERα or ER β and the clinicopathological characteristics, overall survival time, in GC.Method: A literature search was performed in PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, EMBASE database, and Chinese CNKI. Data on the relationship between ERα or ERβ expression and clinicopathological features were extracted. A TCGA dataset including information of the ERs expression and clinical data of GC patients was analyzed. Pooled odds ratios (ORs) and hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated.Results: ERα was not associated with cancer risk, lymph node metastasis, infiltration degree, gender, and TNM stage. However, ERβ was negatively associated with lymph node metastasis. ERα expression may be associated with poor prognosis in GC patients.Conclusion: Estrogen receptors may be related to the progression and deterioration of gastric cancer. Androgens have been hypothesized to influence risk of breast cancer through several possible mechanisms, including their conversion to estradiol and their binding to the estrogen receptor and/or androgen receptor (AR) in the breast. The CAG repeat polymorphism in AR exon 1 has been implicated in breast cancer risk; however, studies on the association between this polymorphism and breast cancer risk remain conflicting. In order to derive a more precise estimation of the relationship, a large population-based case-control study was performed. We found that a long CAG sequence has a protective effect on breast cancer using an a priori determined cutoff (<22 or ≥22) in a dominant model analysis [SL-LL vs. SS, odds ratio (OR) = 0.86, 95% confidence intervals (CI): 0.67-1.10]. A similar result was obtained by analyzing seven detailed genotyping case-control studies by allele comparison in dominant and recessive models. Nitric oxide (NO) is known to be critically involved in breast carcinogenesis. Genetic polymorphisms of the gene encoding for endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), the enzyme catalyzing the production of the NO, are known to predispose to malignant disease. Increasing evidences showed that eNOS plays a significant role in the development of breast cancer. However, published data on the association between eNOS 894 G>T polymorphism and breast cancer risk are inconclusive. In order to derive a more precise estimation of this relationship, a meta-analysis including 11 studies was performed. Crude odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence interval (CIs) were used to estimate the strength of the association. The results showed that there was a significant association with breast cancer risk in TT versus GG (OR = 1.22, 95% CI = 1.02-1.44, P = 0.272) and recessive model TT versus GG/GT (OR = 1.21, 95% CI = 1.02-1.42, P = 0.223). Background The involvement of paternally expressed gene 10 (PEG10) in the development of solid tumors has been demonstrated. However, the available data have not yet been fully analyzed. We conducted this meta-analysis to evaluate the correlations between PEG10 and the clinicopathological characteristics in patients with solid tumors. Methods An electronic search for relevant articles was conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, Chinese CNKI, and Wan Fang. The relationships between PEG10 and the clinicopathological features and prognosis of patients with cancer were determined using pooled odds ratios and hazard ratios with 95% confidence interval (CI). Results Ten studies comprising 1014 patients were included. The pooled analyses indicated the significant association of PEG10 overexpression with the risk of cancer, differentiation, lymph node metastasis and advanced TNM stage, but not with gender in cancer patients. Moreover, a high level of PEG10 expression correlated with poor prognosis and could be used as an independent prognostic biomarker for patients with solid tumors. Conclusions PEG10 expression is associated with advanced clinicopathological characteristics and can be used as a prognostic biomarker in patients with solid tumors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
