A Co-based mixed-ligand metal–organic framework (MOF), ZJU-109, is reported by utilizing 6-(4-pyridyl)-terephthalic acid (H2pta) and 4,4′-bis(imidazolyl)biphenyl (4,4′-bimbp) as double linkers. Abstract: Nitrogen‐doped mesoporous carbon nanosheets (NMCS) have been fabricated from zinc‐based microporous metal–organic frameworks (ZIF‐8) by pyrolysis in a molten salt medium. The as‐prepared NMCS exhibit significantly improved specific capacitance (NMCS‐8: 232 F g−1 at 0.5 A g−1) and capacitance retention ratio (75.9 % at 50 A g−1) compared with the micropore‐dominant nitrogen‐doped porous carbon polyhedrons (NPCP‐5: 178 F g−1 at 0.5 A g−1, 15.9 % at 20 A g−1) obtained by direct pyrolysis of nanocrystalline ZIF‐8. The excellent capacitive performance and high rate performance of the NMCS can be attributed to their unique combination of structure and composition, that is, the two‐dimensional and hierarchically porous structure provides a short ion‐transport pathway and facilitates the supply of electrolyte ions, and the nitrogen‐doped polar surface improves the interface wettability when used as an electrode. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are very convenient self-templated precursors toward functional materials with tunable functionalities. Although a huge family of MOFs has been discovered, conventional MOF-derived strategies are largely limited to the sole MOF source based on a handful of the metal elements. The limitation in structure and functionalities greatly restrains the maximum performance of MOF-based materials for fulfilling the practical potential. This study reports a polymetallic MOF-derived strategy for easy synthesis of metal-oxide-based nanohybrids with precisely tailored multicomponent active dopants. A variety of MoO2-based nanohybrids with synergistical co-doping of W, Cu, and P are yielded by controlled pyrolysis of tailor-made polymetallic MOFs. The W doping induces the formation of Mo xW1− xO2 solid solution with better activity. The homogeneous dispersion of Cu nanocrystallites in robust P-doped carbon skeleton creates a conductive network for fast charge transfer. Boosting by synergistically multidoping effect, the Mo0.8W0.2O2-Cu@P-doped carbon nanohybrids with optimized composition exhibit exceptionally long cycle life of 2000 cycles with high capacities but very slow capacity loss (0.043% per cycle), as well as high power output for lithium storage. Remarkably, the co-doping of heavy W and Cu elements in MoO2 with high density makes them particularly suitable for high volumetric lithium storage. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A series of isomorphic lanthanide metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) Ln(TATAB)⋅(DMF)4(H2O)(MeOH)0.5 (LnTATAB, Ln=Eu, Tb, Sm, Dy, Gd; H3TATAB=4,4′,4′′-s-triazine-1,3,5-triyltri- p-aminobenzoic acid) have been solvothermally synthesized and structurally characterized. Among these MOFs, TbTATAB exhibits good water stability and a high fluorescence quantum yield. Because mercury ions (Hg2+) have a high affinity to nitrogen atoms, and the space between multiple nitrogen atoms from triazine and imino groups is suitable for interacting with Hg2+ ions, TbTATAB shows highly selective and sensitive detection of Hg2+ in aqueous solution with a detection limit of 4.4 n m. Two zinc-based porous metal-organic frameworks, ZJU-64 and ZJU-64-CH3, sharing the same crystal structure, have been synthesized from zinc ions, the biomolecular linker adenine, and carboxylate-based ligands, resulting in 3D frameworks with 1D channels (approximately 1.6 nm×1.9 nm). The materials ZJU-64 and ZJU-64-CH3 exhibit low toxicity by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium (MTT) assay, microscopy images, and cell-cycle analysis; this indicates their potential applications for human health care. The anticancer drug methotrexate (MTX) is successfully loaded into MOFs by a simple impregnation method and the drug payloads reach approximately 13.45 and 10.63 wt % for ZJU-64 and ZJU-64-CH3, respectively. The sustainable drug-release behavior of MTX from MTX-loaded ZJU-64 and ZJU-64-CH3 is detected for several days. The temperature-responsive deliveries of ZJU-64 and ZJU-64-CH3 reveal that hyperthermia can control the drug release and open up a new treatment which combines drug therapy and thermal therapy to kill more cancer cells with fewer side effects; this reveals the practical value of ZJU-64 and ZJU-64-CH3 as 'smart' drug carriers with more therapeutic efficacy. A strategy by encapsulating organic dyes into the pores of a luminescent metal-organic framework (MOF) is developed to achieve white-light-emitting phosphor. Both the red-light emitting dye 4-( p-dimethylaminostyryl)-1-methylpyridinium ( DSM) and the green-light emitting dye acriflavine ( AF) are encapsulated into a blue-emitting anionic MOF ZJU-28 through an ion-exchange process to yield the MOF⊃dye composite ZJU-28⊃DSM/AF. The emission color of the obtained composite can be easily modulated by simply adjusting the amount and component of dyes. With careful adjustment of the relative concentration of the dyes DSM and AF, the resulting ZJU-28⊃DSM/AF (0.02 wt% DSM, 0.06 wt% AF) exhibits a broadband white emission with ideal CIE coordinates of (0.34, 0.32), high color-rendering index value of 91, and moderate correlated color temperature value of 5327 K. A water-stable metal-organic framework (MOF) EuNDC has been synthesized for selective detection of the well-known contaminant and toxicant picric acid (PA) in aqueous solution. Due to the photo-induced electron transfer and self-absorption mechanism, EuNDC displayed rapid, selective and sensitive detection of PA with a detection limit of 37.6 ppb. Recyclability experiments revealed that EuNDC retains its initial luminescent intensity and same quenching efficiency in each cycle, suggesting high photostability and reusability for long-term sensing applications. To make use of a metal–organic framework MIL-101(Cr 3+ ) as template and core generator, we report synthesis of a novel nanoscale yolk/shell octahedron of Cr 2 O 3 @TiO 2 and its high performance as the anode material for lithium ion battery. Nanoscale MIL-101(Cr 3+ ) was coated with amorphous TiO 2 shell and calcinated under Ar and then in air atmospheres to form nanoscale Cr 2 O 3 @TiO 2 . After heat treatment, the amorphous TiO 2 coated MIL-101(Cr) was transformed into nanosized Cr 2 O 3 crystals with crystalline TiO 2 cover, forming multicore yolk/shell octahedrons, as demonstrated from their SEM and TEM morphologies. The resulting Cr 2 O 3 @TiO 2 has moderate porosity with the BET surface area of 146 m 2 g −1 , and the diameter of its Cr 2 O 3 cores is 10–40 nm. It has demonstrated a reversible capacity of 510 mA h g −1 after 500 cycles at 0.5 C charge/discharge rate, which is much better than the bare nano Cr 2 O 3 without TiO 2 shell, and is one of the best-performed Cr 2 O 3 anode materials. The improved electrochemical performance of Cr 2 O 3 @TiO 2 is attributed to its small particle size with moderate porosity for the infiltration of electrolyte and the fast diffusion of Li + ions, its void space within yolk/shell structure to buffer volumetric variation of Cr 2 O 3 and its TiO 2 shell to restrain pulverized inner particles.
