Search

2D materials have demonstrated good chemical, optical, electrical, and magnetic characteristics, and offer great potential in numerous applications. Corresponding synthesis technologies of 2D materials that are high‐quality, high‐yield, low‐cost, and time‐saving are highly desired. Salt‐assisted methods are emerging technologies that can meet these requirements for the fabrication of 2D materials. Herein, the recent process for the salt‐assisted synthesis of 2D materials and their typical applications are summarized. First, the properties of salt crystals and molten salts are briefly introduced, and then some examples of 2D materials synthesis with the assistance of salt as well as their representative applications are presented. The underlying mechanisms of salts with different states on the formation of 2D morphology are discussed to aid in the rational design of synthetic route of 2D materials. At last, the challenges and future perspectives for salt‐assisted methods are briefly described. 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) are well suited for energy storage and field–effect transistors because of their thickness‐dependent chemical and physical properties. However, as current synthetic methods for 2D TMDs cannot integrate both advantages of liquid‐phase syntheses (i.e., massive production and homogeneity) and chemical vapor deposition (i.e., high quality and large lateral size), it still remains a great challenge for mass production of high‐quality 2D TMDs. Here, a molten salt method to massively synthesize various high‐crystalline TMDs nanosheets (MoS2, WS2, MoSe2, and WSe2) with the thicknesses less than 5 nm is reported, with the production yield over 68% with the reaction time of only several minutes. Additionally, the thickness and size of the as‐synthesized nanosheets can be readily controlled through adjusting reaction time and temperature. The as‐synthesized MoSe2 nanosheets exhibit good electrochemical performance as pseudocapacitive materials. It is further anticipates that this work will provide a promising strategy for rapid mass production of high‐quality nonoxides nanosheets for energy‐related applications and beyond. Abstract: Nano-sized (Sn0.25,Ti0.75)O2 photocatalysts were successfully synthesized by a molten salt (MS) method at 260°C for 2h, where a homogeneous precipitate containing titanium and tin cations as a precursor. The synthesized powders were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and UV–vis, respectively. The results show that the products are composed of homogeneously spherical particles with an average size of ca.10nm, and have better UV absorption and visible light response when the reaction temperature is increased to 400°C. Abstract: Cadmium tungstate (CdWO4) nanoparticles and nanorods have been successfully synthesized by a molten salt method at 270°C, and the morphology of the nanocrystals can be controlled by adjusting such reaction conditions as the calcined time and the weight ratio of the salt to the CdWO4 precursor. The resultant sample is a pure phase of CdWO4 without any other impurities. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: CaMoO4 nanoparticles were successfully synthesized by a molten salt method at a temperature as low as 270°C. The as-prepared powders, characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), exhibited a pure CaMoO4 phase about 70nm in particle size and uniform nearly-spherical particle shape. The room temperature luminescent spectra were performed on a Fluorolog-3 spectrofluorometer; the powders exhibited green emission peaks of 508nm. The molten salt medium could speed up the diffusion rates of the reaction ions, and thus decrease greatly the synthesis temperature of CaMoO4 nanoparticles. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: CaWO4 nanoparticles were synthesized by a molten salt method at a low temperature as 200 °C. The as-prepared powders were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and exhibited a pure tetragonal phase CaWO4 with a scheelite structure about 20 nm in size with uniform and nearly spherical or elongated grain shape. The molten salt medium could speed up the diffusing rates of the reaction ions, and thus decrease greatly the synthetic temperature of CaWO4 nanoparticles. It is rational to expect that some other nanoscale materials, which easily vaporize at high temperature, may be synthesized by this method. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
