Nanotechnology is an emerging field with a multitude of applications in medicine, agriculture, and engineering. To date, several methods are used for the synthesis of metallic nanoparticles including chemical, physical, and green methods. The later method is preferred for the synthesis of NPs due to its safe nature, efficiency, and minimal toxicity. Recently, gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) have been attracting attention due to their excellent biocompatibility and diverse medical applications. A diverse group of microorganisms or their metabolites (bacteria, fungi, and yeast) have been utilized to synthesize AuNPs from their respective bulk salts. This review focuses on the resources exploited for biosynthesis of AuNPs, the current understanding about their synthesis, and the emerging trends, along with their mechanistic antimicrobial and anticancer applications. In this study, pure ZnO and iron (Fe) and cobalt (Co) co-doped ZnO nanoparticles were synthesized by varying Fe and Co concentrations using the co-precipitation method. The physical properties of as-prepared samples were investigated through XRD, FTIR, SEM, and UV–vis spectroscopy. X-ray diffraction confirmed the strong influence of Fe and Co ions on structural parameters without disturbing the basic ZnO hexagonal structure. The microstructural study was executed by using the Scherrer, W–H, and SSP methods. FTIR confirmed the presence of Zn–O, and Zn–M–O (M = Fe, Co) vibrational modes, which further confirmed the successful incorporation of dopants ions. The energy bandgap (E g) extracted from UV–vis spectra has shown red-shift (3.37–2.7 eV) for decreasing Fe contents, whereas blue-shift (3.37–3.39 eV) for increasing Co concentration. SEM was used to investigate surface morphology, which represents the high rate of agglomeration. The photocatalytic test was performed on grown samples against various dyes and also observed the effects of varying concentrations of Fe and Co ions. The maximum degradation efficiency (98.8%) at 6%Fe and 4%Co under direct sunlight in 60 min against methylene blue (MB) was achieved. The photocatalytic activity of optimized concentration (6%Fe and 4%Co) was further tested against cresol red (CR), methyl orange (MO), safranin-O (SO), rhodamine-B (RhB), and methyl red (MR) dyes. The maximum degradation efficiency against MR dye (96.0%) was observed. The antibacterial test against Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae bacterial strains have shown that co-doped ZnO nanoparticles have a higher activity as compared to pristine ZnO, and furthermore, the sample with 6%Fe and 4%Co concentration exposed the highest antibacterial actively for both bacterial strains. Nanotechnology is a new star in the science horizon with many valuable applications and promises to offer. It includes the synthesis and utilization of nanostructure materials ranging from 1 to 100 nm. Mostly these materials are generally (or "could be") produced via the laborious and hazard-prone physical and chemical methods but the green synthesis approaches easier, safe and scalable have been recently developed. Among other metal oxides nanoparticles, Titanium oxide (TiO2) nanoparticles have been mostly exploited for their photocatalytic, antimicrobial and antiparasitic applications. A diverse set of biological entities are used to reduce the precursor metal salt into respective nanoparticles. The secondary metabolites present in organisms such as plants or microbes are involved in the bio-reduction and capping processes. This article will provide an overview of the green synthesis of TiO2 NPs from different biological extracts such as plants, microbes and biological products as well as their potential applications. The current study emphasizes the synthesis of iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) and impact of hydrophilic polymer polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) coating concentration as well as anticancer drug doxorubicin (DOX) loading on saturation magnetization for target drug delivery applications. Iron oxide nanoparticles particles were synthesized by a reformed version of the co-precipitation method. The coating of polyvinyl alcohol along with doxorubicin loading was carried out by the physical immobilization method. X-ray diffraction confirmed the magnetite (Fe3O4) structure of particles that remained unchanged before and after polyvinyl alcohol coating and drug loading. Microstructure and morphological analysis was carried out by transmission electron microscopy revealing the formation of nanoparticles with an average size of 10 nm with slight variation after coating and drug loading. Transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive, and Fourier transform infrared spectra further confirmed the conjugation of polymer and doxorubicin with iron oxide nanoparticles. The room temperature superparamagnetic behavior of polymer-coated and drug-loaded magnetite nanoparticles were studied by vibrating sample magnetometer. The variation in saturation magnetization after coating evaluated that a sufficient amount of polyvinyl alcohol would be 3 wt. % regarding the externally controlled movement of IONPs in blood under the influence of applied magnetic field for in-vivo target drug delivery. Nanoparticles as solid colloidal particles are extensively studied and used as anticancer drug delivery agents because of their physical properties. This current research aims to prepare water base suspension of uncoated iron oxide nanoparticles and their biodistribution study to different organs, especially the brain, by using a single photon emission computed tomography gamma camera. The water‐based suspension of iron oxide nanoparticles was synthesised by a reformed version of the co‐precipitation method and labelled with Tc99m for intravenous injection. The nanoparticles were injected without surface modification. X‐ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) techniques were used for characterisation. Peaks of XRD and EDS indicate that the particles are magnetite and exist in aqueous suspension. The average diameter of iron oxide nanoparticles without any surface coating determined by TEM is 10 nm. These particles are capable of evading the reticuloendothelial system and can cross the blood‐brain barrier in the rabbit. The labelling efficiency of iron oxide nanoparticles labelled with Tc99m is 85%, which is good for the biodistribution study. The sufficient amount of iron oxide nanoparticles concentration in the brain as compared with the surrounding soft tissues and their long blood retention time indicates that the water‐based suspension of iron oxide nanoparticles may be an option for drug delivery into the brain. Nanotechnology is a booming avenue in science and has a multitude of applications in health, agriculture, and industry. It exploits materials' size at nanoscale (1–100 nm) known as nanoparticles (NPs). These nanoscale constituents are made via chemical, physical, and biological methods; however, the biological approach offers multiple benefits over the other counterparts. This method utilizes various biological resources for synthesis (microbes, plants, and others), which act as a reducing and capping agent. Among these sources, microbes provide an excellent platform for synthesis and have been recently exploited in the synthesis of various metallic NPs, in particular iron. Owing to their biocompatible nature, superparamagnetic properties, small size efficient, permeability, and absorption, they have become an integral part of biomedical research. This review focuses on microbial synthesis of iron oxide nanoparticles using various species of bacteria, fungi, and yeast. Possible applications and challenges that need to be addressed have also been discussed in the review; in particular, their antimicrobial and anticancer potentials are discussed in detail along with possible mechanisms. Moreover, some other possible biomedical applications are also highlighted. Although iron oxide nanoparticles have revolutionized biomedical research, issues such as cytotoxicity and biodegradability are still a major bottleneck in the commercialization of these nanoparticle-based products. Current research into the role of engineered nanoparticles in drug delivery systems (DDSs) for medical purposes has developed numerous fascinating nanocarriers. This paper reviews the various conventionally used and current used carriage system to deliver drugs. Due to numerous drawbacks of conventional DDSs, nanocarriers have gained immense interest. Nanocarriers like polymeric nanoparticles, mesoporous nanoparticles, nanomaterials, carbon nanotubes, dendrimers, liposomes, metallic nanoparticles, nanomedicine, and engineered nanomaterials are used as carriage systems for targeted delivery at specific sites of affected areas in the body. Nanomedicine has rapidly grown to treat certain diseases like brain cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and many others. These nanomedicines can improve drug bioavailability and drug absorption time, reduce release time, eliminate drug aggregation, and enhance drug solubility in the blood. Nanomedicine has introduced a new era for drug carriage by refining the therapeutic directories of the energetic pharmaceutical elements engineered within nanoparticles. In this context, the vital information on engineered nanoparticles was reviewed and conferred towards the role in drug carriage systems to treat many ailments. Non-noble metal containing catalysts for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) are being targeted due to their low cost and availability. The rarity, high-cost, and self-poisoning of noble metals are the main drawbacks for the large-scale applications. Herein, a facile and simple synthetic strategy is adopted to prepare non-noble metal-based nitrogen doped carbon nanotubes (N-CNTs). The cobalt oxides (CoOx) nanoparticles are in-situ encapsulated inside these N-CNTs which are then treated with acid (HCl) and phosphidized to obtain CoOx-CoP/N-CNTs. High resolution transmission electron spectroscopy (HR-TEM) results reveal that the ends of N-CNTs are closed with nanoparticles. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) confirms the presence of cobalt oxide and cobalt phosphide nanoparticles. The catalyst CoOx-CoP/N-CNTs2 demonstrated E onset and E 1/2 of 0.96 V and 0.81 V, respectively in alkaline environment which is very much comparable to the state of art catalyst (20 wt% Pt/C). Acid treatment significantly enhances the electrocatalytic activity for ORR in comparison to material synthesized without prior treatment with acid. The catalyst exhibits excellent durability over 10,000 cycles and methanol tolerance to 0.5 M methanol addition. The developed product of Pt-Er@PCN-900 has exhibited efficacious trifunctional catalytic activity for hydrogen/oxygen evolution as well as oxygen reduction reaction. Comparatively, Pt-Er@PCN-900 with 8% Pt presents excellent performance than commercial 20%Pt/C. The major goal of this study was to fabricate ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) via chemical and biological routes to evaluate and compare their physiochemical behavior (size and morphology) and biological potentials. The synthesized NPs were confirmed via various spectroscopy and imagining techniques such as XRD, FT-IR, HPLC and SEM. The characterized NPs were then assessed for various in vitro biological applications. Furthermore, apoptotic potential was investigated using HepG2 cell lines by evaluating various signature markers of apoptosis including mitochondrial membrane potential, reactive oxygen/nitrogen (ROS/RNS) production, peroxidases and pro-apoptotic caspase 3 activation. Crystalline, hexagonal structured NPs with an average crystalline size distribution of 32 nm and 23 nm was obtained. Both green-mediated zinc oxide nanoparticles (G-ZnO NPs) and chemically derived NPs (C-ZnO NPs) exhibited high antioxidant, moderate enzyme inhibition, antibacterial and cytotoxicity potential. However, G-ZnO NPs exhibited excellent DPPH (80.1% ± 1.3%), TPC (97 ± 1.22 µgAAE/mg), TRP (94.5 ± 1.48 µgAAE/mg), lipase inhibition (82%), urease inhibition (81.3%), and α-amylase inhibition (18.9%) activity as compared to C-ZnO NPs. Both G-ZnO NPs and C-ZnO NPs showed good antimicrobial potential, however, effect of G-ZnO NPs was more potent than counter C-ZnO NPs. Results from apoptotic assays revealed that G-ZnO NPs showed excellent apoptotic potential in contrast to C-ZnO NPs. Overall results suggested that green route-mediated ZnO NPs exhibits excellent biological potential and could be used for future biomedical applications especially in antimicrobial and cancer therapeutics. This study is aimed at the chemical synthesis of light-activated cobalt-doped zinc oxide and its further doping on reduced graphene oxide (RGO) and assessment of its antibacterial activity on antibiotic-resistant waterborne pathogens including Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumonia, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized via UV–vis spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) of nanoparticles portrayed a significant killing of both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The synthesized nanoparticles were further found as active killers of bacteria in drinking water. Further, these nanoparticles were found photothermally active alongside ROS generators. Apigenin (AGN) is a potent phytochemical with strong antioxidant and anticancer potential. But its therapeutic efficacy is limited due to its high lipophilic characteristics. Therefore, the present investigation aimed to develop AGN-loaded polymer-lipid hybrid nanoparticles (AGN-PLHNPs). Herein, we successfully developed AGN-PLHNPs and optimized them by a 33-Box-Behnken de-sign. The poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA; coded as F1), phospholipon 90 G (PL-90G; coded as F2), and poloxamer 188 (P-188; coded as F3) were considered as the independent factors while particle size (PS; coded as R1), entrapment efficiency (%EE; R2), and cumulative drug release (%CDR; R3) were selected as dependent responses. The average PS, %EE, and %CDR of the AGN-PLHNPs were observed in the range of 101.93 nm to 175.26 nm, 58.35% to 81.14%, and 71.21% to 93.31%, respectively. The optimized AGN-PLHNPs revealed better homogeneity (poly-dispersity index < 0.2) and colloidal stability with high zeta potential (>25 mV). It also exhibited fast release in the initial 4 h after that sustained release up to 48 h of study. Moreover, the results of both DPPH as well as ABTS assays revealed significant improvement in the antioxidant activity. In this study, the micro-emulsion approach was adopted to fabricate rare earth (Nd) and transition metal (Cu) co-doped barium hexaferrite (Ba 1-x Nd x Fe 12-y Cu y O 19) nanoparticles (NPs). The fabricated co-doped and undoped materials were characterized by FTIR, XRD, and SEM techniques for structural and morphological investigation. Structural studies such as XRD and FTIR confirmed Nd and Cu doping at the tetrahedral and octahedral sites of barium hexaferrite, respectively. The SEM analysis made sure that the materials were successfully produced at the nanoscale. Dielectric measurements revealed that the dielectric constant and AC conductivity values of the co-doped sample were higher than those of the undoped sample. The VSM study confirms the improved magnetic properties of the sample after co-doping that facilitates its separation and reuse after photocatalytic experiments. The co-doped and undoped sample's photocatalytic activities (PCA) were explored by comparing their Methyl Green (MG) dye degradation efficiencies. The results revealed that the co-doped barium hexaferrite sample degraded almost 92.6% of the MG dye, while the undoped sample degraded just 37.4%. The higher PCA of the co-doped sample is credited to its structural defects, which adjust the band interval to increase electrical conductivity. In addition, the co-doped sample lost only 2% photocatalytic efficiency after five successive cycles, demonstrating its potential for reuse. Application studies have clearly shown that our Nd-Cu co-doped barium hexaferrite sample has a great potential for practical application to remove toxic dyes from the environment. Porous carbon (PC-900) was prepared by direct carbonization of porous metal-organic framework (MOF)-5 (ZnO(bdc), bdc = 1,4-benzenedicarboxylate) at 900 °C. The carbon material was deposited with PtM (M = Fe, Ni, Co, and Cu (20 %) metal loading) nanoparticles using the polyol reduction method, and catalysts PtM/PC-900 were designed for direct ethanol fuel cells (DEFCs). However, herein, we are reporting PtFe/PC-900 catalyst combination which has exhibited superior performance among other options. This catalyst was characterized by powder XRD, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and selected area electron diffraction (SAED) technique. The electrocatalytic capability of the catalyst for ethanol electrooxidation was investigated using cyclic voltammetry and direct ethanol single cell testing. The results were compared with those of PtFe and Pt supported on Vulcan XC72 carbon catalysts (PFe/CX-72 and Pt/XC-72) prepared via the same method. It has been observed that the catalyst PtFe/PC-900 developed in this work showed an outstanding normalized activity per gram of Pt (6.8 mA/g Pt) and superior power density (121 mW/cm at 90 °C) compared to commercially available carbon-supported catalysts. Pyrolysis of trisbipyridineiron(II) chloride under controlled thermal conditions and inert atmosphere of argon gas yields a residue of iron nanoparticles. Evolved gas analysis by GC-MS and H NMR revealed emission of bipyridine, 6-chlorobipyridine, 6,6′-dichlorbipyridine, bipyridine hydrochloride, and hydrochloric acid as decomposition products. CHN, XRPD, EDXRF, TEM, AFM, and Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy of the residue indicated formation of pure iron nanoparticles in the size range of 50-72 nm. Simple Summary: Cancer is one of the major public health burdens in the world. To date, various conventional cancer therapies have been used, but these therapies are less effective and have severe side effects. Currently, in order to find a better cure for cancer, researchers have tried to explore new approaches with minimal toxicity and fewer side effects. In recent years, nanotechnology has been widely used in diseases management and holds a promising future in curing complex incurable diseases, in particular cancer. Biosynthesized metallic nanoparticles are eco-friendly and biocompatible, and can be used in cancer diagnostics, novel treatments, and drug delivery systems. This review gives an overview of the recent advancements in the biosynthesis of metallic nanoparticles (silver (Ag), gold (Au), zinc (Zn) and copper (Cu)) and their possible anti-cancer activities, with particular emphasis on the mechanisms of action, and future research prospects of nano-therapeutics are also discussed. Bio-mediated nanoparticles (NPs) are cost effective, safe, and biocompatible and have got substantial attention from researchers around the globe. Due to their safe profile and fewer side effects, these nanoscale materials offer a promising cure for cancer. Currently, various metallic NPs have been designed to cure or diagnose cancer; among these, silver (Ag), gold (Au), zinc (Zn) and copper (Cu) are the leading anti-cancer NPs.
