The evaluated intermediate-energy activation cross-section library IEAF-2001 has been tested against integral experiments with SS-316 and F82H steels exposed to a white neutron flux spectrum extending up to 55 MeV. By making use of the ALARA inventory code the expected γ-active product nuclide inventories were calculated and compared with the measured one. It was found that IEAF-2001 reasonably agrees with experimental data for most of the detected radioisotopes. The reasons for some larger disagreements were found to be the uncertainty of the sample elemental composition, non-validated neutron activation reaction cross sections, and sequential charge particle reactions. © 2005 American Institute of Physics [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The European Activation File is the source of nuclear data for fusion activation calculations that has been developed in Europe. In order to trust the calculations made with the data, validation is essential. A key part of this is the comparison of the EAF data with integral experiments made in fusion relevant neutron spectra on a wide range of materials. A review of the results for the EAF-2001 and -2003 libraries is given, leading on to the recent work on the test library EAF-2004. The latter is innovative in extending the upper energy range from 20 to 60 MeV. Although integral data above 20 MeV are scarce, recent measurements have meant that a start at these energies can be made. Examples of reactions that are considered to be validated are given, which requires that both the integral and differential data are consistent with the EAF data. Cases where integral data are good but differential data are lacking or discrepant are highlighted, as are cases where both types of experimental data differ from EAF. The methodology for the use of measurements of the activity and heat to extract effective cross sections and the use of these to present C/E plots is detailed. This technique has the advantage that the integral data can be used during EAF library development rather than only when the library has been finalised. The International Network of Nuclear Reaction Data Centres (NRDC) constitutes a worldwide cooperation of 14 nuclear data centres. The main activity of the NRDC Network is collection and compilation of experimental nuclear reaction cross section data and the related bibliographic information in the EXFOR and CINDA databases as well as dissemination of nuclear reaction data and associated documentation to users. The database contains information and numerical data from more than about 19000 experiments consisting of more than 140000 datasets. EXFOR is kept up to date by constantly adding newly published experimental information. Tools developed for data dissemination utilise modern database technologies with fast online capabilities over the Internet. Users are provided with sophisticated search options, a user-friendly retrieval interface for downloading data in different formats, and additional output options such as improved data plotting capabilities.
