Northeast India with its rich and diverse avifauna acts as a hotbed for emerging virulent Newcastle disease virus (NDV) strains. The present work describes the molecular and pathogenic characterization of NDV strain isolated from Pandu, Assam, India. Clinicopathological and genetic analysis showed the virulent nature of NDV strain Pandu. On molecular phylogenetic and evolutionary distance analysis, the NDV strain Pandu formed a distinct clade within the genotype XIII of class II NDV, suggesting a new sub-genotype XIIIc. The accumulation of mutations in the NDV strain Pandu makes it divergent enough to be considered as a new sub-genotype. Newcastle disease virus (NDV), a member of Paramyxoviridae family, is one of the most important pathogens in poultry. To ensure optimal environments for their replication and spread, viruses rely largely on host cellular metabolism. In the present study, we evaluated the small drug molecule niclosamide for its anti-NDV activity. Our study has shown that a sublethal dose of 1 μM niclosamide could drastically reduce NDV replication. The results showed that niclosamide has antiviral activity against NDV infection during in vitro , in ovo and in vivo assays. Pharmacologically inhibiting the glycolytic pathway remarkably reduced NDV RNA synthesis and infectious virion production. Our results suggest that the effect of niclosamide on cellular glycolysis could be the possible reason for the specific anti-NDV effect. Despite the prevalence of Newcastle disease virus (NDV) outbreaks in India through the decades, there has been little genetic characterisation of the virulent strains circulating in Northeast India. In 2014, a poultry farm in the Kamrup district of Assam reported an ND outbreak. In this study, genetic analysis and clinicopathological tests showed the virulent nature of the isolate Kamrup. Based on prudent classification criteria, the virulent strain Kamrup was found to be most closely related to members of genotype XIII of class II NDV. A phylogenetic analysis of NDV strains suggested three sub-genotypes: XIIIa, XIIIb and XIIIc. NDV strain Kamrup belonged to sub-genotype XIIIc. Sub-genotype XIIIc isolates were similar to the 1982 isolate from cockatoo and appeared to have evolved parallel to the preceding genotype XIII viruses circulating in India. The high genetic diversity and frequency of mutations observed in the envelope glycoproteins of strain Kamrup demonstrate the evolution of the pandemic genotype XIII NDV in India, which further undermines and complicates of NDV management in India. Newcastle disease virus (NDV) is the causative agent of a highly contagious disease in avian species. All strains of NDV belong to avian paramyxovirus serotype-1. The disease is endemic in different parts of the world and vaccination is the only way to protect birds from NDV infection. The virus non-structural phosphoprotein (P) is the second most abundant protein and a major modulator of viral replication. Although P protein shows lesser evolutionary divergence among NDV isolates, it is known to be highly divergent among different avian paramyxovirus serotypes. In the present study, a recombinant P protein based single serum dilution ELISA was developed which showed better sensitivity, specificity and accuracy as compared to conventional methods for NDV detection. Newcastle disease is highly pathogenic to poultry and many other avian species. However, the Newcastle disease virus (NDV) has also been reported from many non-avian species. The NDV fusion protein (F) is a major determinant of its pathogenicity and virulence. The functionalities of F gene have been explored for the development of vaccine and diagnostics against NDV. Although the F protein is well studied but the codon usage and its nucleotide composition from NDV isolated from different species have not yet been explored. In present study, we have analyzed the factors responsible for the determination of codon usage in NDV isolated from four major avian host species. The F gene of NDV is analyzed for its base composition and its correlation with the bias in codon usage. Our result showed that random mutational pressure is responsible for codon usage bias in F protein of NDV isolates. Aromaticity, GC3s, and aliphatic index were not found responsible for species based synonymous codon usage bias in F gene of NDV. Moreover, the low amount of codon usage bias and expression level was further confirmed by a low CAI value. The phylogenetic analysis of isolates was found in corroboration with the relatedness of species based on codon usage bias. The relationship between the host species and the NDV isolates from the host does not represent a significant correlation in our study. Background: Newcastle disease virus represents APMV-1 and is the most characterized among all APMV types. The F protein cleavage site sequence is a well-characterized determinant of NDV pathogenicity in chickens. In this study, the sequences of fusion protein (F) gene of three Newcastle disease virus (NDV) strains isolated from outbreak in chickens in the Al-Sharkia province of Egypt in 2006 were determined. Findings: The viral genomic RNAs were extracted from the infective allantoic fluid and F gene is amplified using primer sets designed from the available sequences of NDV strains from GenBank. The pathogenicity of NDV strains was determined by three internationally recognized tests mean death time, intracerebral pathogenicity index, and intravenous pathogenicity index. The phylogenetic analysis showed that the Egypt isolates are closely related with the genotype II of class II NDV strains. Conclusions: The sequences of the F genes of the 2006 Egypt isolates are closely related to that of the 2005 Egypt isolate from the same province suggesting that these strains are probably circulating in the vaccinated bird population in Egypt until development of an outbreak. It is difficult to control NDV with vaccination alone due to its evolving genetic variability; therefore, an effective therapeutic must target to resist its replication and further evolution. Drug repurposing is a practical and economical method to develop therapeutics against pathogenic organisms. Applying the knowledge of the broadly used antimicrobial activity of imidazole and its derivatives, we performed repurposing-based design of therapeutics to induce protection against NDV. We checked the ability of the compound at sub-lethal doses to reduce NDV replication in vitro , in ovo and in vivo. Chickens treated with the repurposed drug produced antiviral type I interferon and showed no shedding of the virus. Newcastle disease virus (NDV) belongs to serotype 1 of the avian paramyxoviruses (APMV-1) and causes severe disease in chickens. Current live attenuated NDV vaccines are not fully satisfactory. An alternative is to use a viral vector vaccine that infects chickens but does not cause disease. APMV serotype 3 infects a wide variety of avian species but does not cause any apparent disease in chickens. In this study, we constructed a reverse-genetics system for recovery of infectious APMV-3 strain Netherlands from cloned cDNAs. Two recombinant viruses, rAPMV3-F and rAPMV3-HN, were generated expressing the NDV fusion (F) and hemagglutinin-neuraminidase (HN) proteins, respectively, from added genes. These viruses were used to immunize 2-week-old chickens by the oculonasal route in order to evaluate the contribution of each protein to the induction of NDV-specific neutralizing antibodies and protective immunity. Each virus induced high titers of NDV-specific hemagglutination inhibition and serum neutralizing antibodies, but the response to F protein was greater. Protective immunity was evaluated by challenging the immunized birds 21 days later with virulent NDV via the oculonasal, intramuscular, or intravenous route. With oculonasal or intramuscular challenge, all three recombinant viruses (rAPMV3, rAPMV3-F, and rAPMV3-HN) were protective, while all unvaccinated birds succumbed to death. These results indicated that rAPMV3 alone can provide cross-protection against NDV challenge. However, with intravenous challenge, birds immunized with rAPMV3 were not protected, whereas birds immunized with rAPMV3-F alone or in combination with rAPMV3-HN were completely protected, and birds immunized with rAPMV3-HN alone were partially protected. These results indicate that the NDV F and HN proteins are independent neutralization and protective antigens, but the contribution by F is greater. rAMPV3 represents an avirulent vaccine vector that can be used against NDV and other poultry pathogens. Classical swine fever virus (CSFV) is an etiological agent of classical swine fever. The structure protein E rns of CSFV assists in the initial attachment of the virus to the host cell and its subsequent entry. Newcastle disease virus (NDV) has been used as a virus vector to express different proteins successfully. The unique characters of NDV lying in its broad host spectrum and ease in production using embryonated chicken egg make it a choice of vector for expressing foreign gene. In the present work, we are reporting the characterization of the ribonuclease (RNase) activity of recombinant NDV expressing E rns of CSFV. The RNase activity of viral expressed recombinant E rns was found to be stable at a optimum temperature of 50 °C. Newcastle disease (ND) is one of the highly pathogenic viral diseases of avian species. The disease is endemic in many developing countries where agriculture serves as the primary source of national income. Newcastle disease virus (NDV) belongs to the family Paramyxoviridae and is well characterized member among the avian paramyxovirus serotypes. The failure of vaccination is one of the major causes of NDV outbreaks in field condition. The present study gives a brief picture about the biology of NDV genome and its proteins under different conditions of temperature and pH. Our results indicate that the NDV is non-infective above 42 °C and unstable above 72 °C. Newcastle disease virus (NDV) affects commercial poultry as well as other avian species in the wild and in captivity. Although the diversity of NDV in domestic chickens has been well understood, little light has been shed on NDV outbreaks in other avian species. We provide an annotated sequence of NDV/Owl/Guwahati/01/20, a virulent strain of NDV isolated from barn owls in captivity from Guwahati in Northeast India. The complete genome is 15,192 base pairs long with a fusion protein (F) cleavage site 112KRQKR↓F117. The isolate showed 97.67% identity with its closest match, another highly virulent strain from Indonesia isolated from vaccinated commercial chickens; however, they differ in the F cleavage site. The NDV isolate from the owl shares 83.02% and 81.88% identity with the vaccine strains R2B and LaSota, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis with F gene as well as whole-genome nucleotide sequence reveals that the NDV isolate from owl belongs to genotype VII, subgenotype VII.2, and differs significantly from all other isolates of NDV from India. Abstract: The avian paramyxoviruses (APMVs) belong to the genus Avulavirus of family Paramyxoviridae. The APMVs are classified into nine serotypes on the basis of hemagglutination inhibition (HI) and neuraminidase inhibition (NI) assays, although some serologic cross-reaction exists. Newcastle disease virus (NDV), which constitutes serotype 1 (APMV-1), is an important pathogen of poultry, but the pathogenic potential of the other APMV serotypes is poorly understood. Although antibodies to APMV -2 to -9 are prevalent in chickens, the effect of prior exposure to these serotypes on susceptibility to NDV infection and disease was not known. In the present study, chickens were immunized with APMV-2 to -9 by the oculo-nasal route and later were challenged by the same route with a highly virulent strain of NDV. Among APMV-2 to -9, only APMV-3 induced serum antibodies that cross-reacted significantly with NDV and had significant NDV-neutralizing activity in vitro. In mock-immunized chickens, challenge NDV replicated throughout the respiratory tract as well as in the brain, spleen, and enteric tract. In contrast, in APMV-3-immunized chickens, challenge NDV replication was restricted to the upper respiratory tract and trachea. Some of the other APMVs also induced partial restriction of challenge NDV replication: for example, challenge NDV was not detected in the brains of APMV-9-immunized chickens, and shedding from the respiratory tract was reduced in chickens immunized with APMV-8 and -9. All of the chickens immunized with APMV-3 survived the NDV challenge; with APMV-2, -7, -8, and -9 the percentage survival was 30%, 20%, 20%, and 52.5%, respectively; whereas none of the chickens immunized with APMV-4, -5, or -6 survived. These results show that prior infection of chickens with APMV-3 induced substantial protection against NDV challenge, whereas prior infection with APMV-2, -7, -8, and -9 can alter subsequent NDV infection. Background: Highly-pathogenic avian influenza virus (HPAIV) and Newcastle disease virus (NDV) are the two most important poultry viruses in the world. Natural low-virulence NDV strains have been used as vaccines over the past 70 years with proven track records. We have previously developed a reverse genetics system to produce low-virulent NDV vaccine strain LaSota from cloned cDNA. This system allows us to use NDV as a vaccine vector for other avian pathogens. Methodology/Principal Finding: Here, we constructed two recombinant NDVs (rNDVs) each of which expresses the hemagglutinin (HA) gene of HPAIV H5N1strain A/Vietnam/1203/2004 from an added gene. In one, rNDV (rNDV-HA), the open reading frame (ORF) of HA gene was expressed without modification. In the second, rNDV (rNDV-HAF), the ORF was modified so that the transmembrane and cytoplasmic domains of the encoded HA gene were replaced with those of the NDV F protein. The insertion of either version of the HA ORF did not increase the virulence of the rNDV vector. The HA protein was found to be incorporated into the envelopes of both rNDV-HA and rNDV-HAF. However, there was an enhanced incorporation of the HA protein in rNDV-HAF. Chickens immunized with a single dose of either rNDV-HA or rNDV-HAF induced a high titer of HPAIV H5-specific antibodies and were completely protected against challenge with NDV as well as lethal challenges of both homologous and heterologous HPAIV H5N1. Conclusion and Significance: Our results suggest that these chimeric viruses have potential as safe and effective bivalent vaccines against NDV and. HPAIV. These vaccines will be convenient and affordable, which will be highly beneficial to the poultry industry. The lack of therapeutics against NDV makes the need for effective anti-viral drugs is of utmost importance. Lithium Chloride (LiCl) is a widely prescribed drug for the treatment of bipolar disorder, acute brain injuries, and chronic neurodegenerative diseases. Also, LiCl has been repurposed as an effective anti-viral drug for some viral infections. In the present work, we have investigated the efficacy of LiCl to inhibit NDV replication using in vitro , in ovo, and in vivo models. Our results collectively showed the modulation of NDV replication after the LiCl treatment. We also demonstrated that NDV induces endoplasmic reticulum stress (ER-stress), and a stress-inducible ER chaperone, glucose-regulating protein 78 (GRP78), was found to be over-expressed after NDV infection. Subsequently, the treatment of NDV infected cells with LiCl significantly reduced the transcript and protein levels of GRP78. Newcastle disease virus is a member of family Paramyxoviridae that infects chicken. Its genome comprises ~15.2 kb negative-sense RNA that encodes six major proteins. The virus encodes various proteins; among all, nucleocapsid (NP) and matrix (M) help in virus replication and its budding from the host cells, respectively. In this study, we investigated the intracellular distribution of NP and M upon expression in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. We observed nuclear targeting of M, and vacuolar localization of NP was observed in a fraction of yeast cells. Prolonged expression of GFP fused NP or M resulted in altered cell viability and intracellular production of reactive oxygen species in yeast cells. The expression of viral proteins did not alter the morphology and number of the organelles such as nucleus, mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, and peroxisomes. However, a significant effect was observed on vacuolar morphology and number in yeast cells. These observations point towards the importance of host cellular reorganization in viral infection. Newcastle disease virus (NDV) infects domestic and wild avian species with high mortality and morbidity worldwide. Although this disease is mainly controlled through NDV vaccines, alternative use of antiviral compounds is increasingly under study. Resiquimod (R-848), an imidazoquinoline compound is a potent synthetic agonist of Toll-like receptor 7 (TLR7). Until now reports regarding the adjuvant potential of resiquimod is well established against human viruses but has been less explored against avian viruses. In the present study, we have analysed the anti-NDV effect of resiquimod in chicken embryo fibroblast cells (DF-1) and embryonated chicken eggs. About 70% reduction in NDV replication was observed 48 h and 72 h post-resiquimod treatment in DF-1 cells. Furthermore, differential host genes expression was observed in resiquimod treated DF-1 cells, PBMCs, and tissue sample of chicken embryos at a different time point. Among all the analyzed genes, significant up-regulation of viperin, IFNα, IFNγ, IL-1β, TNFα, IL18 were observed in its transcriptional level. Furthermore, resiquimod treatment showed NDV reduction in two weeks old chickens. About 61% and 38% reduction in NDV replication was observed 72 h post-infection in lungs and spleen, respectively. The study suggests the modulation of host innate immunity regulatory genes by resiquimod, which eventually modulates the NDV replication. Newcastle disease virus (NDV) has been explored to a great extent to understand the biology of negative-sense RNA viruses. Nucleoprotein (N) is the most abundant protein in the virus particles, and its primary function is to encapsidate the virus genome for its transcription, replication, and packaging. Here, we report the structural investigations of the N protein of NDV (NDV-N) in solution. The N gene of NDV was cloned and expressed in E. coli as a soluble protein of ~53 kDa in size. The FE-TEM imaging of the purified NDV-N displayed a nearly spherical shape with a diameter of 28 nm and the DLS analysis of the purified NDV-N displayed a monodispersed nature, with averaged hydrodynamic radius, 26.5 nm. The conformational behavior of the NDV-N in solution was studied by SAXS analysis, which suggested two ring structures of NDV-N formed by thirteen monomeric units each. Each ring interacts with RNA molecules and forms a large molecule with a size of ~1450 kDa and are stacked on each other in a spiral arrangement. More profound knowledge of the N protein structure will help us in deciphering the control of viral RNA synthesis at the early stage of NDV life-cycle. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Japanese encephalitis (JE) is the most important cause of acute encephalitis syndrome (AES). Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV), the prototype member of the JE serocomplex, belongs to the genus Flavivirus. The immunogenic proteins envelope (E) and non-structural protein 1 (NS1) of JEV are widely explored for the development of vaccines and diagnostics against JEV. However, there are underlying concerns such as the risk of reversion of live-attenuated vaccines to high virulence, the incomplete inactivation of pathogens in inactivated vaccines and partial vaccine coverage. Newcastle disease virus (NDV) is an efficient viral vaccine vector to express several human and animal immunogenic proteins. In the present study, we have developed a recombinant NDV (rNDV), individually expressing the E and NS1 proteins of JEV (rNDV-Ejev and rNDV-NS1jev). The recovered rNDV-Ejev and rNDV-NS1jev were characterized in 9-day-old SPF embryonated chicken eggs and in cell culture. The vaccination of rNDV-Ejev and rNDV-NS1jev showed effective immunity against JEV upon intranasal immunization in BALB/c mice. The rNDVs vaccination produced effective neutralization antibody titers against both NDV and JEV. The cytokine profiling of the vaccinated mice showed an effective Th1 and Th2 mediated immune response. The study also provided an insight that E, when used in combination with NS1 could reduce the efficacy of only E based immunization in mice. Our results suggested rNDV-Ejev to be a promising live viral vectored vaccine against JEV. Classical swine fever (CSF) is an important viral disease of domestic pigs and wild boar. The structural proteins E2 and Erns of classical swine fever virus (CSFV), which participate in the attachment of the virion to the host cell surface and its subsequent entry, are immunogenic. The E2 and Erns proteins are used for diagnosis and the development of vaccines against CSFV infection in swine. Newcastle disease virus (NDV) has been successfully used as a viral vector to express heterologous proteins. In the present study, the E2 and Erns proteins of CSFV were expressed in cell culture as well as embryonated chicken eggs, using recombinant NDV (rNDV). Rescued rNDV expressing the E2 and Erns proteins induced the production of CSFV-neutralizing antibodies upon intranasal vaccination of pigs. Serum samples from vaccinated animals were found to neutralize both homologous and heterologous CSFV strains. Furthermore, rNDV expressing the E2 and Erns proteins of CSFV was used to develop an indirect ELISA, which was used to measure the the antibody titers of randomly collected serum samples. The results suggested that the ELISA based on rNDV-expressed E2 and Erns proteins could be used to screen for CSFV infections. This study shows that rNDV-based expression of CSFV antigens is potentially applicable for development of vaccines and diagnostic tests for CSFV infection. Viperin is an interferon-inducible protein that helps in protecting mammals against various virus infections. Viperin is a highly conserved member of the interferon-stimulated genes (ISG) family in many species. Viperin has been shown to play a pivotal role in the innate immunity of chicken; however, its role has not been explored in its antiviral potential. Newcastle disease virus (NDV) is the causative agent of an infectious disease in poultry. In the present study, we have shown the anti-NDV effect of chicken viperin (cViperin). The impact of cViperin upon NDV infection was investigated in chicken embryo fibroblast. The modeling of the cViperin protein was done using I-TASSER and ZDOCK is used to predict the possible interaction with the matrix protein of NDV. The interaction was further confirmed by co-immunoprecipitation assay using recombinant matrix protein of NDV with the recombinant cViperin. The recombinant NDV expressing cViperin showed reduced replication of the virus upon its growth kinetics. Our results suggest downregulation of NDV replication in the presence of cViperin. Newcastle disease virus (NDV) is the causative agent of Newcastle disease (ND) in many avian species. ND is a serious problem in developing countries, causing huge loss in the poultry industry. Although there are reports of continuous outbreaks of ND leading to serious losses to the poultry farming, very less is known about the genetic characteristics of its strains circulating in different parts of India. In the present study, we have five isolates of NDV reported from different outbreaks in Central India between the years 2006–2012. Deduced amino acid sequence of the F protein cleavage site and phylogenetic analysis of all the five isolates showed circulation of NDV genotype XIIIb. All the isolates showed a unique virulent cleavage site 112 RRQKR↓F 117 . The close genetic similarity of all the isolates suggested circulation of the virulent NDV strains of the same ancestor in and around central India. Continuous isolation of genotype XIIIb NDV strains within the country suggests its panzootic potential. Abstract: Avian paramyxoviruses (APMVs) belong to the genus Avulavirus in the family Paramyxoviridae and include at least nine serotypes, APMV-1 to -9, as well as two additional provisional serotypes. Newcastle disease virus (NDV), which comprises APMV-1, is the most extensively studied APMV because it is an important poultry pathogen. A moderate level of antigenic and genetic diversity is recognized for APMV-1 isolates, but our knowledge of the antigenic and genetic diversity of the other APMV serotypes is limited. APMV-4 is frequently isolated from waterfowl around the world. To date complete genome sequences of APMV-4 are available for only strains, which were isolated from ducks in Hong Kong, Korea and Belgium over a period of 37 years. We have carried out genome sequencing from the nucleocapsid (N) gene-end signal to the polymerase (L) gene-start signal of five APMV-4 strains recently isolated from Italy. Each of the eight APMV-4 strains has the same F protein cleavage site, DIQPR↓F. They also share a high level of nucleotide and amino acid sequence identity: for example, the F and HN glycoproteins have greater than 97% sequence identity between the various strains. Thus, comparison of these eight strains of APMV-4 did not provide evidence of substantial diversity, in contrast to similar studies with APMV-2, -3, and -6, in which the F and HN glycoproteins exhibited up to 20–30% amino acid sequence variation within a subgroup. Reciprocal cross-HI assay using post infection chicken sera also failed to detect significant antigenic variation among the available APMV-4 strains. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

The role of N-linked glycosylation of the Newcastle disease virus (NDV) fusion (F) protein in viral replication and pathogenesis was examined by eliminating potential acceptor sites using a reverse genetics system for the moderately pathogenic strain Beaudette C (BC). The NDV-BC F protein contains six potential acceptor sites for N-linked glycosylation at residues 85, 191, 366, 447, 471, and 541 (sites Ng1 to Ng6, respectively). The sites at Ng2 and Ng5 are present in heptad repeat (HR) domains HR1 and HR2, respectively, and thus might affect fusion. Each N-glycosylation site was eliminated individually by replacing asparagine (N) with glutamine (Q), and a double mutant (Ng2 + 5) involving the two HR domains was also made. Each mutant was successfully recovered by reverse genetics except for the one involving Ng6, which is present in the cytoplasmic domain. All of the F proteins expressed by the recovered mutant viruses were efficiently cleaved and transported to the infected-cell surface. None of the individual mutations affected viral fusogenicity, but the double mutation at Ng2 and Ng5 in HR1 and HR2 increased fusogenicity >12-fold. The single mutations at sites Ng1, Ng2, and Ng5 resulted in modestly reduced multicycle growth in vitro. These three single mutations were also the most attenuating in eggs and 1-day-old chicks and were associated with decreased replication and spread in 2-week-old chickens. In contrast, the combination of the mutations at Ng2 and Ng5 yielded a virus that, compared to the BC parent, replicated >100-fold more efficiently in vitro, was more virulent in eggs and chicks, replicated more efficiently in chickens with enhanced tropism for the brain and gut, and elicited stronger humoral cell responses. These results illustrate the effects of N-glycosylation of the F protein on NDV pathobiology and suggest that the N-glycans in HR1 and HR2 coordinately downregulate viral fusion and virulence. Newcastle disease (ND) is prevalent among the domesticated and the wild birds and is caused by the avian paramyxovirus serotype-I (APMV-I). It is commonly known to affect chicken, pheasant, ostrich, pigeon and waterfowl. Depending on the virulence, the velogenic NDV strains cause severe respiratory and nervous disorders with a high mortality rate. The live and killed vaccines are available for the prevention of infection in the market, but the drug for the treatment is not available. Nitazoxanide (NTZ), a member of thiazolides, is an antiparasitic drug. In the present study, the effect of NTZ on the NDV replication was explored. The experiments were conducted in chicken fibroblast cells (DF-1), PBMC, embryonated chicken eggs, and two-week old chickens. The inhibition of the NDV was observed upon post-treatment of NTZ at a concentration of ~12.5 μM. Cytokine profiling of the DF-1, PBMC, and chicken embryonic tissue treated with NTZ revealed significant upregulation in all the cytokines studied except for IL-1β in DF-1 cells. It is plausible that NTZ is involved in causing immune-modulatory effects in poultry. NTZ treatment in two weeks old chicken showed significant reduction in NDV replication in trachea, and lungs, respectively, at 72 h post-infection. Encouraging results from the present study warrants repurposing NTZ as a drug for the treatment of viral infection in poultry.
