Search

For the purpose of cross-fertilising currently separate experimental approaches, we connect results of LHC analyses attempting to access the properties of additional $W^\prime$ and $Z^\prime$ bosons from Drell-Yan processes. Under theoretical assumptions linking the two new gauge bosons, we take into account that such possible states of nature are wide enough (in relation to the leptonic mass resolution) for the corresponding signals be significantly affected by interference effects with the background from the Standard Model. The shape of the differential cross section may then no longer be a standard Breit-Wigner distribution, and asymmetry observables would become useful for characterisation (and, possibly, discovery) purposes. Under such conditions we concentrate our analysis on specific widely-studied models: the Sequential Standard Model, a model with an additional $SU(2)_L$ gauge symmetry, as well as standard and alternative realisations of the Left-Right Symmetric Model. We show how information gathered in $Z'$ boson searches in terms of cross section and/or asymmetry distributions can be used to improve $W'$ boson searches in terms of the LHC sensitivity, and {\it vice versa}., 24 pages, 14 figures

In this paper, we examine the leptonic flavor invariants in the minimal seesaw model (MSM), in which only two right-handed neutrino singlets are added into the Standard Model in order to accommodate tiny neutrino masses and explain cosmological matter-antimatter asymmetry via leptogenesis mechanism. For the first time, we calculate the Hilbert series (HS) for the leptonic flavor invariants in the MSM. With the HS we demonstrate that there are totally 38 basic flavor invariants, among which 18 invariants are CP-odd and the others are CP-even. Moreover, we explicitly construct these basic invariants, and any other flavor invariants in the MSM can be decomposed into the polynomials of them. Interestingly, we find that any flavor invariants in the effective theory at the low-energy scale can be expressed as rational functions of those in the full MSM at the high-energy scale. Practical applications to the phenomenological studies of the MSM, such as the sufficient and necessary conditions for CP conservation and CP asymmetries in leptogenesis, are also briefly discussed., 22 pages, 2 tables, more discussions and references added, version accepted for publication in JHEP

Converting random motion into directional motion of charged dust particles in plasma, i.e., the rectification, can be achieved by using a dusty plasma ratchet, in which the asymmetry of system plays a very important role. Here, we use different staggered angles between the inner and outer gears to control the asymmetry of system and further study experimentally the effect of the asymmetry induced by staggered angle on the rectification of dust particles in a dusty plasma ratchet. Our results show that the spatial distribution and the velocity of dust particles along the saw channel are nonuniform. Decreasing the asymmetry can reduce the flow of dust particle in the saw channel.

Recent results from the CMS Collaboration using top quarks are presented. These results are based on partial datasets collected by the CMS Collaboration during the LHC Run 2, at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. This document includes the first measurement of t t ‾ production in association with charm quarks, the first direct measurement of the third generation of the CKM matrix elements, the investigation of the running of the top quark mass, search for CP violation in top quark production, measurement of the forward-backward asymmetry in t t ‾ production at the LHC, and the first global approach in constraining EFT operator coefficients using top quarks.

The properties of spectator matter created in 197Au–197Au and 208Pb–208Pb collisions with energies typical for the NICA accelerator complex were studied with the Abrasion–Ablation Monte Carlo for Colliders (AAMCC) model. We review predictions made with AAMCC for several characteristics of spectator matter and compare them with available data. The sum of squares of spectator charges per spectator nucleon is proposed as an additional indicator of collision centrality in BM@N and MPD experiments at NICA. The forward-backward asymmetry of free spectator nucleons is calculated and compared to the asymmetry of the total volume of spectator matter. The sensitivity of calculated yields of spectator neutrons in central 208Pb‒208Pb collisions to the presence of neutron skin in 208Pb is demonstrated.

We present precise measurements of the branching fraction and CP-violation asymmetry in the B meson system, specifically in the charmless decays B → ϕϕK, ϕ → K+K−. This study is based on the full ϒ(4S) data set of 772 × 10 6 B B ‾ pairs collected by the Belle detector at KEKB asymmetric energy e+e− collider. These decays are mediated by the b → s flavor-changing neutral current (FCNC) transition, which could exhibit large CP violations due to interference of potential new-physics amplitudes appearing in the quantum loop with the b → c tree-level transition of B → ηcK, ηc → ϕϕ. Therefore, an observation of direct CP violation in B → ϕϕK decays would be a clear sign of physics beyond the standard model. In addition to being an NP probe, the decay is sensitive to possible production of glue-ball candidate that later decays as ξ → ϕϕ. Our results obtained with nine times larger statistics and refined analysis techniques significantly improve upon, and supersede, the Belle's earlier result with due consideration of the nonresonant K+K− contribution underneath the ϕ resonance.

Investigation of spatial parity in reactions of polarized neutrons with light nuclei is an important topic in the framework of exploring the fundamental problem of understanding the manifestation of the weak interaction in nuclear reactions and for estimating the parameters of the weak nucleon–nucleon interaction. In this paper, the ongoing experimental program of highly sensitive and high-precision measurements of P‑odd asymmetries in the reactions of polarized thermal and cold neutrons with lithium and boron nuclei is reviewed. Within this program, the coefficients of P-odd asymmetry of reaction products in the reactions induced by cold- and thermal-neutrons on the isotopes of light nuclei 6Li and 10B were measured with record-high sensitivity ~10–8 as $$\alpha _{{P{\text{ - odd}}}}^{{^{{\text{6}}}{\text{Li}}{\text{,exp}}}} = - (8.8 \pm 2.1) \times {{10}^{{ - 8}}}$$ , $$\alpha _{{P{\text{ - odd}}}}^{{^{{10}}{\text{B}},\gamma ,\exp }} = (0.0 \pm {{2.6}_{{{\text{stat}}.}}} \pm {{1.1}_{{{\text{syst}}{\text{.}}}}}) \times {{10}^{{ - 8}}},$$ and $$\alpha _{{P{\text{ - odd}}}}^{{{{\alpha }_{0}} + {{\alpha }_{1}}{{,}^{{10}}}B,\exp }} = - (11.2 \pm 3.4) \times {{10}^{{ - 8}}}$$ . For the first time ever, nonzero values were obtained for two of these asymmetries. Our data for tritium emission in the $$^{6}{\text{Li(}}n,a{{)}^{3}}{\text{H}}$$ reaction and γ emission in the $$^{{10}}{\text{B}}{{(n,a)}^{{74}}}{\text{Li}}^{*} \to \gamma \to {{\,}^{7}}{\kern 1pt} {\text{Li(gr}}{\text{.st}}{\text{.)}}$$ reaction agree with those of other experiments when interpreted within the cluster model, but rule out the so-called “best DDH values” of weak-interaction coupling constants. Interpreting the data on these reactions relying on “first principles” only would be highly desirable.

We study the CP asymmetry of B±→ ωK± with the inclusion of the ρ − ω mixing mechanism. It is shown that the CP asymmetry of B±→ ωK± experimentally measured ($$ {A}_{\mathrm{CP}}^{\mathrm{exp}} $$ A CP exp ) and conventionally defined ($$ {A}_{\mathrm{CP}}^{\mathrm{con}} $$ A CP con ) are in fact different, which relation can be illustrated as $$ {A}_{\mathrm{CP}}^{\mathrm{exp}}={A}_{\mathrm{CP}}^{\mathrm{con}}+\Delta {A}_{\mathrm{CP}}^{\rho \omega} $$ A CP exp = A CP con + Δ A CP ρω , with $$ \Delta {A}_{\mathrm{CP}}^{\rho \omega} $$ Δ A CP ρω the ρ − ω mixing contribution to $$ {A}_{\mathrm{CP}}^{\mathrm{exp}} $$ A CP exp . The numerical value of $$ \Delta {A}_{\mathrm{CP}}^{\rho \omega} $$ Δ A CP ρω is extracted from the experimental data of B±→ π+π−K± and is found to be comparable with $$ {A}_{\mathrm{CP}}^{\mathrm{exp}} $$ A CP exp , hence, non-negligible. The conventionally defined CP asymmetry, $$ {A}_{\mathrm{CP}}^{\mathrm{con}} $$ A CP con , is obtained from the values of $$ {A}_{\mathrm{CP}}^{\mathrm{exp}} $$ A CP exp and $$ \Delta {A}_{\mathrm{CP}}^{\rho \omega} $$ Δ A CP ρω , and is compared with the theoretical calculations in the literature.

We consider a type-I seesaw framework with a flavour symmetry from the series of non-abelian groups $\Delta (3 n^2)$ and $\Delta (6 n^2)$ and a CP symmetry. Breaking these symmetries non-trivially results in the right-handed neutrinos being degenerate in mass up to possible (further symmetry-breaking) splittings $\kappa$ and $\lambda$, while the neutrino Yukawa coupling matrix encodes the entire flavour structure in the neutrino sector. For a fixed combination of flavour and CP symmetry and residual groups, this matrix has five real free parameters. Four of them are set by light neutrino masses and data on lepton mixing, while $\theta_R$ is related to right-handed neutrinos. We scrutinise for all four lepton mixing patterns, grouped into Case 1) through Case 3 b.1), the potential to generate the baryon asymmetry of the Universe (BAU) through low-scale leptogenesis numerically and analytically. The main results are: a) the possible correlation of the BAU and the Majorana phases of the PMNS mixing matrix in certain instances; b) the possibility to generate the correct amount of BAU for zero $\kappa$ and $\lambda$ as well as for large $\kappa$, depending on the case and choice of group theory parameters; c) the chance to produce sufficient BAU for large active-sterile mixing angles, enabling direct experimental tests at current and future facilities, for $\theta_R$ close to a special value, potentially protected by an enhanced residual symmetry. We elucidate these results with representative examples of flavour and CP symmetries, which all lead to a good agreement with the measured lepton mixing angles and, possibly, the current hint of the CP phase $\delta$. We identify the CP-violating combinations relevant for low-scale leptogenesis, and show that the parametric dependence of the BAU found numerically can be understood well with their help., Comment: 65 pages + 19 pages of appendices, 41 figures, 10 tables. The goal of this work is to find the simplest UV completion of Accidental Composite Dark Matter Models (ACDM) that can dynamically generate an asymmetry for the DM candidate, the lightest \textit{dark baryon} (DCb), and simultaneously annihilate the symmetric component. In this framework the DCb is a bound state of a confining $\text{SU}(N)_{\text{DC}}$ gauge group, and can interact weakly with the visible sector. The constituents of the DCb can possess non-trivial charges under the Standard Model gauge group. The generation of asymmetry for such candidate is a two-flavor variation of the \emph{out-of-equilibrium} decay of a heavy scalar, with mass $M_\phi\gtrsim 10^{10}$ GeV. Below the scale of the scalars, the models recover accidental stability, or long-livedness, of the DM candidate. The symmetric component is annihilated by residual confined interactions provided that the mass of the DCb $m_{\text{DCb}} \lesssim 75$ TeV. We implement the mechanism of asymmetry generation, or a variation of it, in all the original ACDM models, managing to generate the correct asymmetry for DCb of masses in this range. For some of the models found, the stability of the DM candidate is not spoiled even considering generic GUT completions or asymmetry generation mechanisms in the visible sector., Comment: 40+5 pages, 12 figures. Linear induction motors (LIMs), applied in the field of electromagnetic emission, due to end effect, show the characteristics of thrust rapid decline, and current asymmetry increasing in the process of high-speed movement. This article studies the effect of stator winding connections on thrust and current asymmetry of six-phase shifted 30° LIM considering the static and the longitudinal end effect. The study compares three connections by finite-element analysis, namely, open-end, star, and triangular connections. The theory of symmetric component method is introduced to analyze the asymmetric characteristics caused by the end effect. The output thrust and current asymmetries of the motor under three connection modes are compared in detail. The simulation results show that there is no difference among the three connection modes when only considering static end effect, but once considering dynamic end effect, the output current symmetry of star connection is better than that of the open and triangular connection. Also, Adopting variable slip frequency control method can not only improve output thrust of motor, but also improve current symmetry, especially at high speed obviously, when compared with constant slip frequency control method. The research will be helpful to motor thrust optimization control and winding design in the future.

The differential cross-section of the top quark pair production via the quark-antiquark annihilation subprocess in hadron collision is calculated within the noncommutative standard model. A pure NC analytical expression for the forward-backward asymmetry at the tree level is obtained. Moreover, using recent Tevatron results from the full RUN2 data, a new lower bound on the noncommutative geometry parameter is deduced.

We propose a small-scale transport model of the electric-discharge tree formation and analyze its implementation for a characteristic case of the thundercloud conditions. The following innovative features of the model can be emphasized: no connection to the spatial grid, high spatiotemporal resolution, and allowance for the asymmetry of the development of the positive and negative streamers and the time evolution of the discharge-channel parameters. The criterion of the streamer-to-leader transition, which is used in this work, is formulated in terms of the channel temperature and is based on the well-known mechanism of ionization-overheating instability, which is universal for the spark discharge. Within the framework of the described approach, a heated well-conducting leader channel is formed by combining the currents of tens of thousands of streamers, so that each of them initially has f negligible conductivity and a temperature that does not differ from the ambient temperature. The model bileader tree has electrodynamic characteristics that are intermediate between those known for the laboratory long spark and the developed lightning, which is expected for an “immature” lightning leader. The morphology and electrical parameters of the calculated discharge tree of the incipient model lightning leader agree with the modern data on the lightning-discharge development.

We perform a phenomenological analysis of the observable consequences on the extended scalar sector of the SMASH (Standard Model–Axion–Seesaw–Higgs portal inflation) framework. We solve the vacuum metastability problem in a suitable region of SMASH scalar parameter spaces and discuss the one-loop correction to triple Higgs coupling $${{\lambda }_{{HHH}}}{\text{.}}$$ We also find that the correct neutrino masses and mass squared differences and baryonic asymmetry of the universe can arise from this model and consider running of the Yukawa couplings of the model. In fact, we perform a full two-loop renormalization group analysis of the SMASH model.

The breakdown of SU(6) global symmetry down to its SU(5) subgroup near the scale f > 10 TeV in the strongly interacting sector within the E_6 inspired composite Higgs model (E6CHM) gives rise to a set of pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone bosons (pNGBs) that involves one Standard Model (SM) singlet scalar, a SM-like Higgs doublet and an SU(3)_C triplet of scalar fields, $T$. We argue that the baryon number violation in the E6CHM can induce the observed matter-antimatter asymmetry if CP is violated. Due to a recent more precise evaluation of $V_{ud}$ and $V_{us}$, the unitarity condition of the first row in the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix: $|V_{ud}|^2 + |V_{us}|^2 + |V_{ub}|^2 = 0.99798 \pm 0.00038$ now stands at a deviation more than $4\sigma$ from unity. Furthermore, a mild excess in the overall Higgs signal strength appears at about $2\sigma$ above the standard model (SM) prediction, as well as the long-lasting discrepancy in the forward-backward asymmetry ${\cal A}_{\rm FB}^b$ in $Z\to b\bar b$ at LEP. Motivated from the above three anomalies we investigate an extension of the SM with vector-like quarks (VLQs) associated with the down-quark sector, with the goal of alleviating the tension among these datasets. We perform global fits of the model under the constraints coming from the unitarity condition of the first row of the CKM matrix, the $Z$-pole observables ${\cal A}_{\rm FB}^b$, $R_b$ and $\Gamma_{\rm had}$, Electro-Weak precision observables $\Delta S$ and $\Delta T$, $B$-meson observables $B_d^0$-$\overline{B}_d^0$ mixing, $B^+ \to \pi^+ \ell^+ \ell^-$ and $B^0 \to \mu^+ \mu^-$, and direct searches for VLQs at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). We study the anomalous triple gauge boson couplings (aTGC) in $ZW^\pm$ production in $3l$ + missing $E_T$ channel at the LHC for $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV. We use cross sections, azimuthal asymmetry, forward-backward asymmetry, and polarization asymmetries of $Z$ and reconstructed $W$ to estimate simultaneous limits on the anomalous couplings for both the effective vertex formalism as well as the effective operator approach using the Markov-chain--Monte-Carlo (MCMC) method for luminosities $35.9$ fb$^{-1}$, $100$ fb$^{-1}$, $300$ fb$^{-1}$, $1000$ fb$^{-1}$, and $3000$ fb$^{-1}$. The trilepton invariant mass ($m_{3l}$)and the transverse momentum of $Z$ ($p_T(Z)$) are found to be sensitive to the aTGC for the cross sections as well as for the asymmetries. We observed that the asymmetries significantly improve the measurement of anomalous couplings at the high-luminosity large hadron collider (LHC) if a deviation from the Standard Model (SM) is observed., 32 pages, 13 figures and 6 tables

Asymptotic expressions for one-loop electroweak radiative corrections to observables of polarized Bhabha scattering are obtained within the on-shell renormalization scheme. The results of a numerical analysis of relative one-loop electroweak corrections to the cross section and polarization asymmetry are reproduced at energies below and above the $$Z$$ resonance. A successful comparison with exact results obtained by means of computer-algebra systems is performed.

This paper presents the results of numerical simulation of airflow with suspended particles through a human nasal cavity. The stationary and nonstationary problem statements were considered. Within the nonstationary case, two variants were studied: for the first variant, the breath cycle is taken with symmetric inhale/exhale, and for the second variant, we modelled a real asymmetric breath cycle. The solution was based on Navier-Stokes equations for laminar flow of incompressible gas. Particle flow is described using the Lagrangean approach with account for Brownian motion. Numerical simulation results were compared with experimental and simulation data from other authors. Results for different variants of problem statement were compared. Asymmetry of breath cycle should be accounted in calculation of particle deposition efficiency. A simple rule was found that replaces the computation-consuming nonstationary calculation with three stationary flow calculations.

In this paper we present the results of a detector response function modeling using a new version of PHITS Particle and Heavy Ion Transport Code with an advanced feature for asymmetrical peak broadening. Tests are performed on a room temperature medium resolution 500 mm3 CdZnTe detector of a quasi-hemispherical design with validation on a set of point source gamma-ray spectra with a range of energies from 59 keV up to 1332 keV. Performance assessment is conducted with respect to built-in spectra broadening capabilities using as default Gaussian as well as an asymmetrical peak shape models. Results of our study indicate that up to 200 keV energy range where peak asymmetry is not severe a default Gaussian peak shape broadening can be used. Beyond 200 keV the degree of CZT photopeak asymmetry becomes significant and requires an asymmetrical peak shape broadening. This asymmetry affects the low-energy side of the photopeaks and has a non-linear behavior with energy. We find that with a built-in feature of a tailed peak shape model introduced in the new version of PHITS code (ver. 3.10) asymmetrical peak shapes of CZT detectors can be approximated. The generalized expression for the Bernstein waves in the nonrelativistic limit is analyzed for pair ion plasma with the contribution of electrons. The effect of temperature and mass asymmetry on the propagation of the Bernstein waves is studied in detail. It is observed that due to asymmetry an extra curve exists below the lower harmonics. When we include electrons in pair ion plasma, we observe that the electron temperature affects the propagation of these waves.

For leptogenesis with heavy sterile neutrinos above the electroweak scale, asymmetries produced at early times (in the relativistic regime) are relevant, if they are protected from washout. This can occur for weak washout or when the asymmetry is partly protected by being transferred to spectator fields. We thus study the relevance of relativistic effects for leptogenesis in a minimal seesaw model with two sterile neutrinos in the strongly hierarchical limit. Starting from first principles, we derive a set of momentum-averaged fluid equations to calculate the final $B-L$ asymmetry as a function of the washout strength and for different initial conditions at order one accuracy. For this, we take the leading fluid approximation for the relativistic $CP$-even and odd rates. Assuming that spectator fields remain in chemical equilibrium, we find that for weak washout, relativistic corrections lead to a sign flip and an enhancement of the asymmetry for a vanishing initial abundance of sterile neutrinos. As an example for the effect of partially equilibrated spectators, we consider bottom-Yukawa and weak-sphaleron interactions in leptogenesis driven by sterile neutrinos with masses $\gtrsim 5\times10^{12}$ GeV. For a vanishing initial abundance of sterile neutrinos, this can give rise to another flip and an absolute enhancement of the final asymmetry in the strong washout regime by up to two orders of magnitude relative to the cases either without spectators or with fully equilibrated ones. These effects are less pronounced for thermal initial conditions for the sterile neutrinos. The $CP$-violating source in the relativistic regime at early times is important as it is proportional to the product of lepton-number violating and lepton-number conserving rates, and therefore less suppressed than an extrapolation of the nonrelativistic approximations may suggest., Comment: 47 pages, 11 figures

Jet pull is an observable designed to probe colour flow between jets. Thus far, a particular projection of the pull vector, the pull angle, has been employed to distinguish colour flow between jets produced by a colour singlet or an octet decay. This is of particular importance in order to separate the decay of a Higgs boson to a pair of bottom quarks from the QCD background. However, the pull angle is not infra-red and collinear (IRC) safe. In this paper we introduce IRC safe projections of the pull vector that exhibit good sensitivity to colour flow, while maintaining calculability. We calculate these distributions to next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy, in the context of the hadronic decay of a Higgs boson, and compare these results to Monte Carlo simulations. This study allows us to define an IRC safe version of the pull angle in terms of asymmetry distributions. Furthermore, because of their sensitivity to wide-angle soft radiation, we anticipate that these asymmetries can play an important role in assessing subleading colour correlations and their modelling in general-purpose Monte Carlo parton showers., 21 pages, 6 figures. An overview of a measurement of time-dependent CP asymmetry parameters in B s 0 → J / ψ ( μ + μ − ) ϕ ( K + K − ) decays using 80.5 fb−1 of integrated luminosity collected with the ATLAS detector from 13 TeV pp collisions at the LHC is presented. A manifestation of the CP violation is an interference between direct and mixing-mediated B s 0 decays, producing a common final state. In the Standard Model, it is characterized by a phase shift ϕ s related to the CKM matrix. In the case of B s 0 → J / ψ ϕ , this shift is predicted to be small, ϕ s = − 0.0363 − 0.0015 + 0.0016 rad. New physics can enhance ϕ s whilst satisfying all existing constraints. Results presented in this talk are compatible with those obtained from 19.2 fb−1 of 7 TeV and 8 TeV data as well as with the Standard Model predictions and other LHC measurements.

The kinetic theory of Thomson scattering in an inhomogeneous plasma is constructed. As a result of the electron density inhomogeneity, the spectral lines become asymmetric with respect to the change in the sign of the frequency. This line asymmetry has been detected experimentally. This line asymmetry can be used as a new method for diagnosing local electron density gradients in a plasma.

The rare decay $$ \overline{B} $$ B ¯ → Xsγ is an important probe of physics beyond the standard model. The largest uncertainty on the total rate and the CP asymmetry arises from resolved photon contributions. These appear first at order 1/mb and are related to operators other than Q7γ in the effective weak Hamiltonian. One of the three leading contributions, $$ {Q}_1^q-{Q}_{7\gamma } $$ Q 1 q − Q 7 γ , is described by a non-local function whose moments are related to HQET parameters. We use recent progress in our knowledge of these parameters to reevaluate the resolved photon contribution to $$ \overline{B} $$ B ¯ → Xsγ total rate and CP asymmetry.

This article discusses some of the history of parity-violation experiments that culminated in the Qweak experiment, which provided the first determination of the proton's weak charge [Formula: see text]. The guiding principles necessary to the success of that experiment are outlined, followed by a brief description of the Qweak experiment. Several consistent methods used to determine [Formula: see text] from the asymmetry measured in the Qweak experiment are explained in detail. The weak mixing angle sin2θw determined from [Formula: see text] is compared with results from other experiments. A description of the procedure for using the [Formula: see text] result on the proton to set TeV-scale limits for new parity-violating semileptonic physics beyond the Standard Model (BSM) is presented. By also considering atomic parity-violation results on cesium, the article shows how this result can be generalized to set limits on BSM physics, which couples to any combination of valence quark flavors. Finally, the discovery space available to future weak-charge measurements is explored.

In this work, we consider the problem of existence of discrete Lorenz attractors in the nonholonomic model of a Celtic stone. To this end, the main local and global bifurcations leading to the appearance and destruction of the attractors are studied in two-parameter families of such models of certain types. The corresponding bifurcation diagram, in which the region of existence of a discrete Lorenz attractor is shown and its boundaries are described, is obtained on the plane of the governing parameters (the angle of dynamic asymmetry of the stone–the total-energy value). The similarities and differences in the scenarios of the appearance of a discrete Lorenz attractor in the nonholonomic model of a Celtic stone and attractor in the classical Lorenz model are found.

The usual Galilean contraction procedure for generating new conformal symmetry algebras takes as input a number of symmetry algebras which are equivalent up to central charge. We demonstrate that the equivalence condition can be relaxed by inhomogeneously contracting the chiral algebras and present general results for the ensuing asymmetric Galilean algebras. In 2019 the Belle II experiment started data taking at the asymmetric SuperKEKB collider (KEK, Japan) operating at the Y(4S) resonance. Belle II will search for new physics beyond the Standard Model by collecting an integrated luminosity of 50~ab$^{-1}$. The silicon vertex detector (SVD), consisting of four layers of double-sided silicon strip sensors, is one of the two vertex sub-detectors. The SVD extrapolates the tracks to the inner pixel detector (PXD) with enough precision to correctly identify hits in the PXD belonging to the track. In addition the SVD has standalone tracking capability and utilizes ionization to enhance particle identification in the low momentum region. The SVD is operating reliably and with high efficiency, despite exposure to the harsh beam background of the highest peak-luminosity collider ever built. High signal-to-noise ratio and hit efficiency have been measured, as well as the spatial resolution; all these quantities show excellent stability over time. Data-simulation agreement on cluster properties has recently been improved through a careful tuning of the simulation. The precise hit-time resolution can be exploited to reject out-of-time hits induced by beam background, which will make the SVD more robust against higher levels of background. During the first three years of running, radiation damage effects on strip noise, sensor currents and depletion voltage have been observed, as well as some coupling capacitor failure due to intense radiation bursts. The Dirac B-spline R-matrix (DBSR) method is employed to treat low-energy electron collisions with thallium atoms. Special emphasis is placed on spin polarization phenomena that are investigated through calculations of the differential cross-section and the spin asymmetry function. Overall, good agreement between the present calculations and the available experimental measurements is found. The contributions of electron exchange to the spin asymmetry cannot be ignored at low impact energies, while the spin–orbit interaction plays an increasingly significant role as the impact energy rises.

The \(K_S-K_L\) (SL) asymmetry occurs in the two-body charmed baryon decay with neutral kaon contained in their final states.In this work, based on the topological diagram approach and separated contributions calculated in naive factorization and the pole model, we provide explicit predictions on SL asymmetries for all the singly charmed baryon two-body decays. Especially, for the first time, we predict a sizable SL asymmetry for \(\Omega_c\) decays in its unique decay channel \(\Omega_c\to \Xi^0 K_{S,L}\). Among the four groups of decays in antitriplet charmed baryons, the \(R\) values for \(\Xi_c^+\to \Sigma^+ K_{S,L}\) and \(\Xi_c^0\to \Sigma^0 K_{S,L}\) are around \(-0.5\), which are promising to be measured. However, the other two groups \(\Lambda_c^+\to p K_{S,L}\) and \(\Xi_c^0\to \Lambda^0 K_{S,L}\) are relatively small. Our predictions are partially consistent with theoretical results provided by two other groups and an examination by future experiments is highly anticipated.

This article presents differential measurements of the asymmetry between $$ {\varLambda}_b^0 $$ Λ b 0 and $$ {\overline{\varLambda}}_b^0 $$ Λ ¯ b 0 baryon production rates in proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of $$ \sqrt{s} $$ s = 7 and 8 TeV collected with the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb−1. The $$ {\varLambda}_b^0 $$ Λ b 0 baryons are reconstructed through the inclusive semileptonic decay $$ {\varLambda}_b^0 $$ Λ b 0 → $$ {\varLambda}_c^{+} $$ Λ c + μ−$$ \overline{\nu} $$ ν ¯ μX. The production asymmetry is measured both in intervals of rapidity in the range 2.15 < y < 4.10 and transverse momentum in 2 < pT< 27 GeV/c. The results are found to be incompatible with symmetric production with a significance of 5.8 standard deviations for both $$ \sqrt{s} $$ s = 7 and 8 TeV data, assuming no CP violation in the decay. There is evidence for a trend as a function of rapidity with a significance of 4 standard deviations. Comparisons to predictions from hadronisation models in Pythia and heavy-quark recombination are provided. This result constitutes the first observation of a particle-antiparticle asymmetry in b-hadron production at LHC energies.

We present a coherent model that combines jet production from perturbative QCD with strongly-coupled jet-medium interactions described in holography. We use this model to study the modification of an ensemble of jets upon propagation through a quark-gluon plasma resembling central heavy ion collisions. Here the modification of the dijet asymmetry depends strongly on the subleading jet width, which can therefore be an important observable for studying jet-medium interactions. We furthermore show that the modification of the shape of the leading jet is relatively insensitive to the dijet asymmetry, whereas the subleading jet shape modification is much larger for more imbalanced dijets. We present a composite scotogenic model for neutrino masses, which are generated via loops of ℤ2-odd composite scalars. We consider three different approaches to the couplings of the neutrinos (including three right-handed singlets) and the composite sector: ETC-like four-fermion interactions, fundamental partial compositeness and fermion partial compositeness. In all cases, the model can feature sizeable couplings and remain viable with respect to various experimental constraints if the three ℤ2-odd right-handed neutrinos have masses between the TeV and the Planck scales. Additionally, the lightest ℤ2-odd composite scalar may play the role of Dark Matter, either via thermal freeze-out or as an asymmetric relic. This mechanism can be featured in a variety of models based on vacuum misalignment. For concreteness, we demonstrate it in a composite two-Higgs scheme based on the coset SU(6)/Sp(6).

We perform a systematic analysis of models with GeV-scale dark matter coupled to baryons and leptons. Such theories provide a natural framework to explain the matter-antimatter asymmetry of the universe. We find that only a few baryonic dark matter models are free from tree-level proton decay without explicitly imposing baryon number conservation. We enumerate those cases and provide a brief overview of their phenomenology. We then focus on a leptonic dark matter model for a more detailed discussion of the baryon asymmetry generation via leptogenesis, the symmetry restoration in the dark sector and the expected dark matter annihilation signals in indirect detection experiments., Comment: 6 pages, 7 figures

The effective approach is applied to the analysis of inflationary magnetogenesis. Rather than assuming a particular underlying description, all the generally covariant terms potentially appearing with four space-time derivatives in the effective action have been included and weighted by inflaton-dependent couplings. The higher derivatives are suppressed by the negative powers of a typical mass scale whose specific values ultimately depend on the tensor to scalar ratio. During a quasi-de Sitter stage the corresponding corrections always lead to an asymmetry between the hypermagnetic and the hyperelectric susceptibilities. In this paper, we use a multi-phase transport model to simulate the parton evolution time-dependent transverse asymmetry in peripheral Pb-Pb (b=14-15 fm) and p-Pb (b=0-1 fm) collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$= 5.02 TeV, respectively. The simulated results showed that the initial spatial asymmetry depends on the collision system, while both the initial momentum asymmetry and final momentum asymmetry are independent on the collision system. It is also shown that the final momentum asymmetry is similar to the initial momentum asymmetry. Furthermore, the averaged transverse shape asymmetry, which includes the initial spatial asymmetry, the initial momentum asymmetry, and the final momentum asymmetry, is significantly dependent on the transverse momentum and particle species identity (PID). The origin of the matter-antimatter asymmetry in the Universe is a fundamental question of physics. Electroweak baryogenesis is a compelling scenario for explaining it but it requires beyond the Standard Model sources of the CP symmetry violation. The simplest possibility is CP violation in the third generation fermion Higgs couplings, widely investigated theoretically and searched for experimentally. It has been found that the experimental bounds on the CP violation in the quark Yukawa couplings exclude their significant role in the electroweak baryogenesis, but it can be still played by the $\tau$ lepton Yukawa coupling. It is shown in this paper that, within the context of the Standard Model Effective Field Theory and assuming an underlying flavour symmetry of the Wilson coefficients, the electron dipole moment bound on the $\tau$ lepton Yukawa coupling is two orders of magnitude stronger than previously reported. The impact of new and highly precise neutron \b{eta} decay data is reviewed. We focus on recent results from neutron lifetime, \b{eta} asymmetry, and electron-neutrino correlation experiments. From these results, weak interaction parameters are extracted with unprecedented precision, possible also due to progress in effective field theory and lattice QCD. Limits on New Physics beyond the Standard Model derived from neutron decay data are sharper than those derived from high-energy experiments, except for processes involving right-handed neutrinos., 34 pages, 4 figures

The P2 experiment aims at high-precision measurements of the parity-violating asymmetry in elastic electron-proton and electron-$^{12}$C scatterings with longitudinally polarized electrons. We discuss here the sensitivity of P2 to new physics mediated by an additional neutral gauge boson $Z'$ of a new $U(1)'$ gauge symmetry. If the charge assignment of the $U(1)'$ is chiral, i.e., left- and right-handed fermions have different charges under $U(1)'$, additional parity-violation is induced directly. On the other hand, if the $U(1)'$ has a non-chiral charge assignment, additional parity-violation can be induced via mass or kinetic $Z$-$Z'$ mixing. By comparing the P2 sensitivity to existing constraints, we show that in both cases P2 has discovery potential over a wide range of $Z'$ mass. In particular, for chiral models, the P2 experiment can probe gauge couplings at the order of $10^{-5}$ when the $Z'$ boson is light, and heavy $Z'$ bosons up to 79 (90) TeV in the proton ($^{12}$C) mode. For non-chiral models with mass mixing, the P2 experiment is sensitive to mass mixing angles smaller than roughly $10^{-4}$, depending on model details and gauge coupling magnitude., 36 pages, 6 figures and 5 tables, minor changes, more references, version published in JHEP

The quasifree $\overrightarrow{\gamma} d\to\pi^0n(p)$ photon beam asymmetry, $\Sigma$, has been measured at photon energies, $E_\gamma$, from 390 to 610 MeV, corresponding to center of mass energy from 1.271 to 1.424 GeV, for the first time. The data were collected in the A2 hall of the MAMI electron beam facility with the Crystal Ball and TAPS calorimeters covering pion center-of-mass angles from 49 to 148$^\circ$. In this kinematic region, polarization observables are sensitive to contributions from the $\Delta (1232)$ and $N(1440)$ resonances. The extracted values of $\Sigma$ have been compared to predictions based on partial-wave analyses (PWAs) of the existing pion photoproduction database. Our comparison includes the SAID, MAID, and Bonn-Gatchina analyses; while a revised SAID fit, including the new $\Sigma$ measurements, has also been performed. We review a testable, the axion quark nugget (AQN) model outside of the standard WIMP paradigm. The model was originally invented to explain the observed similarity between the dark and the visible components, $\Omega_{\rm DM}\approx \Omega_{\rm visible}$ in a natural way as both types of matter are formed during the same QCD transition and proportional to the same dimensional fundamental parameter of the system, $\Lambda_{\rm QCD}$. In this framework the baryogenesis is actually a charge segregation (rather than charge generation) process which is operational due to the $\cal{CP}$-odd axion field,while the global baryon number of the Universe remains zero. The nuggets and anti-nuggets are strongly interacting but macroscopically large objects with approximately nuclear density. We overview several specific recent applications of this framework. First, we discuss the "solar corona mystery" when the so-called nanoflares are identified with the AQN annihilation events in corona. Secondly, we review a proposal that the recently observed by the Telescope Array puzzling events is a result of the annihilation events of the AQNs under thunderstorm. Finally, we overview a broadband strategy which could lead to the discovery the AQN-induced axions representing the heart of the construction., Comment: invited brief review to be published in MPLA

Using Soft-Collinear Effective Theory, we develop the transverse-momentum-dependent factorization formalism for heavy flavor dijet production in polarized-proton-electron collisions. We consider heavy flavor mass corrections in the collinear-soft and jet functions, as well as the associated evolution equations. Using this formalism, we generate a prediction for the gluon Sivers asymmetry for charm and bottom dijet production at the future Electron-Ion Collider. Furthermore, we compare theoretical predictions with and without the inclusion of finite quark masses. We find that the heavy flavor mass effects can give sizable corrections to the predicted asymmetry., 25 pages, 6 figures; journal version

We propose a new root-mean-square radius parameterization for light nuclei A ≤ 30 suitable for use in Geant4 calculations of nucleus-nucleus total hadronic inelastic scattering cross sections. The new approach takes into account the proton-neutron asymmetry of the reactants, and was fit to 360 measured total inelastic cross sections from the EXFOR database. Measured nuclear radii are better described in the new approach than the current Geant4 implementation, particularly for unstable nuclides, and there is better agreement with measured cross sections for both stable and unstable nuclides. The improved parameterization should help in carbon-ion therapy applications in particular.

The Standard Model of physics provides a description of matter in the universe, but fails to reproduce many unexplained features, such as neutrino oscillations and the matter-antimatter asymmetry. One avenue to constrain physics beyond the Standard Model is via the precise determination of the V ud matrix element of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix from the ft-value of superallowed mixed beta-decay transitions. Such tests however require the determination of the Fermi to Gamow-Teller mixing ratio, which is currently unknown for all but five mixed mirror transition nuclei. At the University of Notre Dame a project is underway to develop a Paul trap devoted to the measurement of this elusive quantity. The design and goals will be presented.

Experimental and theoretical investigations of a sulfur-33 electric-field-gradient (EFG) tensor of disulfide bonds in 33S-labled dibenzyl disulfide have been presented. Temperature dependence of quadrupolar frequencies, νQ, is observed in the temperature range between 80 and 280 K, in which single peaks appear in all the 33S nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) spectra. Analysis of nutation echo 33S NQR spectra at 200 K yields the quadrupolar coupling constant, CQ value, of 46.8(6) MHz and the asymmetry parameter, ηQ, of 0.48(7). The orientation of the 33S EFG tensor of the disulfide is obtained by quantum chemical calculations: the largest EFG tensor component, VZZ, is approximately perpendicular to the molecular plane (C-S-S), and the smallest component, VXX, is approximately 41° off the C-S bond. Extensive quantum chemical calculations are systematically performed to investigate dependences of 33S EFG tensors on changes of torsion angles in disulfide and trisulfide bonds, indicating that analysis of νQ and CQ values potentially makes it possible to assign the secondary structures of cross-linking in a rubber.

Nonlocal effects result in complications when predicting scattering observables. This is usually seen when one analyses the data for nucleon scattering off light 1p-shell nuclei using local optical model potentials. In this work we employ the nonlocal optical model of Perey and Buck (1962) [10] to study the neutron-light nucleus scattering process. By fitting the individual elastic angular distributions we determine energy-dependent, target-specific potential parameters. Then, for each nucleus, a constant set of nonlocal parameters is obtained by simultaneously fitting the corresponding elastic angular distributions. The good quality of the fits prompted us to search for a global constant set of nonlocal parameters by simultaneously fitting a large number elastic angular distribution sets for neutron scattering off light nuclei from 6Li to 18O over the energy range 9 to 35 MeV. We also show that the implicit inclusion of nonlocality in the optical model does not fully remove the need for energy-dependent potential parameters. This is achieved by expressing the nonlocal imaginary volume and surface depths of the constant global set as linear functions of energy and the asymmetry term. The effectiveness of this set is tested by applying it to additional light nuclei and energies outside the fitted range. The predicted elastic angular distributions compared well with the measured data.

We analyze reheating scenarios where a hidden sector is populated during reheating along with the sector containing the Standard Model. We numerically solve the Boltzmann equations describing perturbative reheating of the two sectors, including the full dependence on quantum statistics, and study how quantum statistical effects during reheating as well as the non-equilibrium inflaton-mediated energy transfer between the two sectors affects the temperature evolution of the two radiation baths. We obtain new power laws describing the temperature evolution of fermions and bosons when quantum statistics are important during reheating. We show that inflaton-mediated scattering is generically most important at radiation temperatures $T\sim M_\phi/4$, and build on this observation to obtain analytic estimates for the temperature asymmetry produced by asymmetric reheating. We find that for reheating temperatures $T_{\textrm{rh}} \ll M_{\phi}/4$, classical perturbative reheating provides an excellent approximation to the final temperature asymmetry, while for $T_{\textrm{rh}}\gg M_{\phi}/4$, inflaton-mediated scattering dominates the population of the colder sector and thus the final temperature asymmetry.
