Abstract: We present results on dijet production via hard color-singlet exchange in proton-antiproton collisions at √s = 630 GeV and 1800 GeV using the DØ detector. The fraction of dijet events produced via color-singlet exchange is measured as a function of jet transverse energy, separation in pseudorapidity between the two highest transverse energy jets, and proton-antiproton center-of-mass energy. The results are consistent with a color-singlet fraction that increases with an increasing fraction of quark-initiated processes and inconsistent with two-gluon models for the hard color-singlet. © 1998 Published by Elsevier Science B.V. Abstract: The DZERO detector is used to study proton-antiproton collisions at the 1800 GeV and 630 GeV center-of-mass energies available at the Fermilab Tevatron. To measure jets, the detector uses a sampling calorimeter composed of uranium and liquid argon as the passive and active media respectively. Understanding the jet energy calibration is not only crucial for precision tests of QCD, but also for the measurement of particle masses and the determination of physics backgrounds associated with new phenomena. This paper describes the energy calibration of jets observed with the DZERO detector at the two proton-antiproton center-of-mass energies in the transverse energy and pseudorapidity range ET>8 GeV and pseudorapidity, 94 pages with 52 figures (included in the 94 pages)

Abstract: We have searched for the flavor-changing neutral current decay b -> s mu+ mu- in p pbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV with the DO detector at Fermilab. We determine the 90% confidence level limit for the branching fraction to be B(b -> X_s mu+ mu-) < 3.2 x 10^{-4}. We argue that this limit is more stringent than the best published limit on this decay rate.

Abstract: The global topologies of inclusive three- and four-jet events produced in $\overline{p}p$ interactions are described. The three- and four-jet events are selected from data recorded by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider operating at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=1800$ GeV. The measured, normalized distributions of various topological variables are compared with parton-level predictions of tree-level QCD calculations. The parton-level QCD calculations are found to be in good agreement with the data. The studies also show that the topological distributions of the different subprocesses involving different numbers of quarks are very similar and reproduce the measured distributions well. The parton-shower Monte Carlo generators provide a less satisfactory description of the topologies of the three- and four-jet events.

Abstract: We have studied J ψ production in p p collisions at s = 1.8 TeV with the DO detector at Fermilab using μ+μ− data. We have measured the inclusive J ψ production cross section as a function of J ψ transverse momentum, pT. For the kinematic range pT > 8 GeV/c and |η| σ(p p → J ψ + X) · Br ( J ψ → μ + μ − ) = 2.08 ± 0.17( stat) ± 0.46(syst) nb. Using the muon impact parameter we have estimated the fraction of J ψ mesons coming from B meson decays to be fb = 0.35 ± 0.09(stat)±0.10(syst) and inferred the inclusive b production cross section. From the information on the event topology the fraction of nonisolated J ψ events has been measured to be fnonisol = 0.64 ± 0.08(stat)±0.06(syst). We have also obtained the fraction of J ψ events resulting from radiative decays of χc states, fχ = 0.32 ± 0.07(stat)±0.07(syst). Abstract: The distribution of the transverse energy in jets has been measured in p p collisions at s =1.8 TeV TeV using the DO detector at Fermilab. This measurement of the jet shape is made as a function of jet transverse energy in both the central and forward rapidity regions. Jets are shown to narrow both with increasing transverse energy and with increasing rapidity. Next-to-leading order partonic QCD calculations are compared to the data. Although the calculations qualitatively describe the data, they are shown to be very dependent on renormalization scale, parton clustering algorithm, and jet direction definition and they fail to describe the data in all regions consistently.

Abstract: A search for a heavy charged gauge boson, W′, using the decay channels W′ → eν and W′ → τν → eνν ν is reported. The data used in the analysis were collected by the DO experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron during the 1992-93 p p collider run from an integrated luminosity of 13.9 ± 0.8 pb−1 at s =1.8 TeV . Assuming that the neutrino from W′ decay is stable and has a mass significantly less than mW′, an upper limit at the 95% confidence level is set on the cross section times branching ratio for p p → W′ → eν . A W′ with the same couplings to quarks and leptons as the standard model W boson is excluded for mW′

Abstract: We describe the results of beam tests of three uranium-liquid argon calorimeter modules constructed for the DO detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. As part of the calibration procedure, these modules were exposed to beams of electrons, pions and muons between 10 and 150 GeV/c before their installation in the end calorimeter of the completed DO detector. We obtain an electromagnetic sampling resolution of 15.7%/√E and constant term of 0.3%. The hadronic sampling resolution is 45%/√E (degraded to 50%/√E by the effects of upstream material) and the constant term is 4%. The calorimeter is linear to 0.5%, and the electromagnetic to hadronic response ratio is between 1.02 and 1.09 over this range of momenta. For an electron efficiency of 95% we obtain a rejection factor against pions of ∼ 900-3000 for particles in the momentum range between 50 and 150 GeV/c. We also compare our results with the predictions of a detailed Monte Carlo simulation.

Abstract: Limits on anomalous $\mathrm{WW}\ensuremath{\gamma}$ and $\mathrm{WWZ}$ couplings are presented from a study of $WW/W\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{Z}e\ensuremath{\nu}\mathrm{jj}$ events produced in $p\overline{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.8 \mathrm{TeV}.$ Results from the analysis of data collected using the D\O{} detector during the 1993--1995 Tevatron collider run at Fermilab are combined with those of an earlier study from the 1992--1993 run. A fit to the transverse momentum spectrum of the W boson yields direct limits on anomalous $\mathrm{WW}\ensuremath{\gamma}$ and $\mathrm{WWZ}$ couplings. With the assumption that the $\mathrm{WW}\ensuremath{\gamma}$ and $\mathrm{WWZ}$ couplings are equal, we obtain $\ensuremath{-}0.34l\ensuremath{\lambda}l0.36$ (with $\ensuremath{\Delta}\ensuremath{\kappa}=0)$ and $\ensuremath{-}0.43l\ensuremath{\Delta}\ensuremath{\kappa}l0.59$ (with $\ensuremath{\lambda}=0)$ at the 95% confidence level for a form-factor scale $\ensuremath{\Lambda}=2.0 \mathrm{TeV}.$

Abstract: We report on measurements on inclusive cross sections times branching fractions into electrons for W and Z bosons produced in p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.8 TeV. From an integrated luminosity of 84.5 pb(-1) recorded in 1994-1995 using the D empty set detector at the Fermilab Tevatron, we determine sigma(p (p) over bar--> W + X) x B(W-->e nu) = 2310 +/- 10(stat) +/- 50(syst) +/- 100(lum)pb and sigma(p (p) over bar-->Z + X) x B(Z-->ee)=221+/-3(stat)+/-4(syst)+/-10(lum)pb. From these, we derive sigma(p (p) over bar-->W + X) x B(N-->e nu)/sigma(p (p) over bar-->Z + X) x B(Z-->ee) = 10.43+/-0.15(stat) +/- 0.20(syst) +/- 0.10(NLO), B(W-->e nu) = 0.1044+/-0.0015(stat)+/-0.0020(syst)+/-0.0017(theory)+/-0.0010(NLO). and Gamma(w) = 2169 +/- 0.03 l(stat) +/- 0.042(syst) +/- 0.041(theory)+/- 0.022(NLO)GeV. We use the latter to set a 95% confidence level upper limit on the partial decay width of the W boson into nonstandard model final states, Gamma(W)(inv), of 0.213 GeV. Combining these results with those from the 1992-1993 data gives sigma(p (p) over bar-->W+X) x B(W-->e nu)/sigma(p (p) over bar-->Z+X) x B(Z-->ee) = 10.51+/-0.25, Gamma(W) = 2.152 +/- 0.066 GeV, and a 95% C.L. upper limit an Gamma(W)(inv) of 0.191 GeV. Using a sample with a luminosity of 505 nb(-1) taken at root s = 630 GeV, we measure sigma(p (p) over bar--> W+ X) x B(W --> e nu) = 658 +/- 67 pb.

Abstract: We present a measurement of the differential cross section as a function of transverse momentum of the Z boson in ppbar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.8 TeV using data collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider during 1994--1996. We find good agreement between our data and the NNLO resummation prediction and extract values of the non-perturbative parameters for the resummed prediction from a fit to the differential cross section.

Abstract: Evidence of anomalous WW and WZ production was sought in pbar{p} collisions at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV. The final states $WW (WZ) to mu-nu-jet-jet + X, WZ to mu-nu-e-e + X and WZ to e-nu-e-e + X were studied using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of approximately 90 pb-1. No evidence of anomalous diboson production was found. Limits were set on anomalous WWgamma and WWZ couplings and were combined with our previous results. The combined 95% confidence level anomalous coupling limits for Lambda=2 TeV are -0.25 LE Delta-kappa LE 0.39 (lambda=0) and -0.18 LE lambda LE 0.19 (Delta \kappa = 0), assuming the WWgamma couplings are equal to the WWZ couplings.

Abstract: D\O{} has measured the inclusive production cross section of W and Z bosons in a sample of 13 ${\mathrm{pb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ of data collected at the Fermilab Tevatron. The cross sections, multiplied by their leptonic branching fractions, for production in $p\overline{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.8$ TeV are ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{W}\mathrm{B}(\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{W}e\ensuremath{\nu})=2.36\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.02\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.08\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.13\mathrm{}\mathrm{nb},$ ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{W}\mathrm{B}(\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{W}\ensuremath{\mu}\ensuremath{\nu})=2.09\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.06\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.22\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.11\mathrm{}\mathrm{nb},$ ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{Z}\mathrm{B}(\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{Z}{e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}})=0.218\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.008\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.008\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.012\mathrm{}\mathrm{nb}$, and ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{Z}\mathrm{B}(\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{Z}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ensuremath{-}})=0.178\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.022\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.021\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.009\mathrm{}\mathrm{nb}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic; the third reflects the uncertainty in the integrated luminosity. For the combined electron and muon analyses, we find ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{W}\mathrm{B}(\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{W}l\ensuremath{\nu})/{\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{Z}\mathrm{B}(\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{Z}{l}^{+}{l}^{\ensuremath{-}})=10.90\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.52$. Assuming standard model couplings, we use this result to determine the width of the W boson, and obtain $\ensuremath{\Gamma}(W)=2.044\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.097 \mathrm{GeV}$.

Abstract: We report on a search for bottom squarks produced in pbarp collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV using the D0 detector at Fermilab. Bottom squarks are assumed to be produced in pairs and to decay to the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) and a b quark with branching fraction of 100%. The LSP is assumed to be the lightest neutralino and stable. We set limits on the production cross section as a function of bottom squark mass and LSP mass.

Abstract: The results of a search for W boson pair production in pp collisions at √s=1.8TeV with subsequent decay to eμ, ee, and μμ channels are presented. Five candidate events are observed with an expected background of 3.1±0.4 events for an integrated luminosity of approximately 97pb -1 . Limits on the anomalous couplings are obtained from a maximum likelihood fit of the E T spectra of the leptons in the candidate events. Assuming identical WWγ and WWZ couplings, the 95% C.L. limits are -0.62

Abstract: A measurement of the mass of the W boson is presented which is based on a sample of 5982 W → eνv decays observed in pp collisions at √s=1.8 TeV with the D∅ detector during the 1992-1993 run. From a fit to the transverse mass spectrum, combined with measurements of the Z boson mass, the W boson mass is measured to be MW=80.350±0.140(stat)±0.165(syst)±0.160(scale) GeV/c 2 . Detailed discussions of the determination of the absolute energy scale, the measured efficiencies, and all systematic uncertainties are presented.

Abstract: The gauge boson pair production processes Wg, WW, WZ, and Zg were studied using pbarp collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of ~14 pb-1 at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV. Analysis of Wg prod with subsequent W boson decay to lv (l=e,mu) is reported, including a fit to the pT spectrum of the photons which leads to limits on anomalous WWg couplings. A search for WW prod with subsequent decay to l-lbar-v-vbar (l=e,mu) is presented leading to an upper limit on the WW prod cross section and limits on anomalous WWg and WWZ couplings. A search for high pT W bosons in WW and WZ prod is described, where one W boson decays to an ev and the second W boson or the Z boson decays to two jets. A maximum likelihood fit to the pT spectrum of W bosons resulted in limits on anomalous WWg and WWZ couplings. A combined fit to the three data sets which provided the tightest limits on anomalous WWg and WWZ couplings is also described. Limits on anomalous ZZg and Zgg couplings are presented from an analysis of the photon ET spectrum in Zg events in the decay channels (ee, mu-mu, and v-vbar) of the Z boson., 77 Pages including 40 Figures. Abstract: The DØ detector is a large general purpose detector for the study of short-distance phenomena in high energy antiproton-proton collisions, now in operation at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The detector focusses upon the detection of electrons, muons, jets and missing transverse momentum. We describe the design and performance of the major elements of the detector, including the tracking chambers, transition radiation detector, liquid argon calorimetry and muon detection. The associated electronics, triggering systems and data acquisition systems are presented. The global mechanical, high voltage, and experiment monitoring and control systems which support the detector are described. We also discuss the design and implementation of software and software support systems that are specific to DØ. © 1994.

Abstract: This report describes the first search for top squark pair production in the channel stop_1 stopbar_1 -> b bbar chargino_1 chargino_1 -> ee+jets+MEt using 74.9 +- 8.9 pb^-1 of data collected using the D0 detector. A 95% confidence level upper limit on sigma*B is presented. The limit is above the theoretical expectation for sigma*B for this process, but does show the sensitivity of the current D0 data set to a particular topology for new physics., Five pages, including three figures, submitted to PRD Brief Reports

Abstract: We report on a study of color coherence effects in pp- collisions at a center of mass energy √s = 1.8 TeV. The data were collected with the DØ detector during the 1992-1993 run of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We observe the presence of initial-to-final state color interference with the spatial correlations between soft and hard jets in multijet events in the central and in forward pseudorapidity regions. The results are compared to Monte Carlo simulations with different color coherence implementations and to the predictions of script O sign(α3s) QCD calculations. © 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.

Abstract: We report the results of a study of color coherence effects in pp collisions based on data collected by the DØ detector during the 1994-1995 run of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, at a center of mass energy √s = 1.8 TeV. Initial-to-final state color interference effects are observed by examining particle distribution patterns in events with a W boson and at least one jet. The data are compared to Monte Carlo simulations with different color coherence implementations and to an analytic modified-leading-logarithm perturbative calculation based on the local parton-hadron duality hypothesis. © 1999 Published by Elsevier Science B.V. Abstract: We determine the top quark mass m{sub t} using t{bar t} pairs produced in the DO/ detector by {radical} (s) =1.8thinspTeV p{bar p} collisions in a 125thinsppb{sup {minus}1} exposure at the Fermilab Tevatron. We make a two constraint fit to m{sub t} in t{bar t}{r_arrow}bW{sup +}{bar b}W{sup {minus}} final states with one {ital W} boson decaying to q{bar q} and the other to e{nu} or {mu}{nu}. Likelihood fits to the data yield m{sub t}(l+jets)=173.3{plus_minus}5.6thinsp(stat)thinsp{plus_minus}thinsp5.5thinsp(s st) GeV/c{sup 2}. When this result is combined with an analysis of events in which both {ital W} bosons decay into leptons, we obtain m{sub t}=172.1{plus_minus}5.2thinsp(stat)thinsp{plus_minus}thinsp4.9thinsp(syst) GeV/c{sup 2}. An alternate analysis, using three constraint fits to fixed top quark masses, gives m{sub t}(l+jets)=176.0{plus_minus}7.9thinsp(stat){plus_minus}thinsp4.8thinsp(syst) GeV/c{sup 2}, consistent with the above result. Abstract: We have searched for a heavy neutral gauge boson, Z ′, using the decay channel Z ′ → ee . The data were collected with the DO detector at the Fermilab Tevatron during the 1992–1993 p p collider run at s =1.8 TeV from an integrated luminosity of 15±1 pb −1 . Limits are set on the cross section times brancing ratio for the process p p → Z′ → ee as a function of the Z ′ mass. We exclude the existence of a Z ′ of mass less than 490 GeV/c 2 , assuming a Z ′ with the same coupling strengths to quarks and leptons as the standard model Z boson.
