Abstract: The lifetime of the τ lepton is measured using the process e+ e- → τ+ τ- , where both τ leptons decay to 3πν(τ). The result for the mean lifetime, based on 711 fb(-1) of data collected with the Belle detector at the ϒ(4S) resonance and 60 MeV below, is τ=(290.17±0.53(stat)±0.33(syst))×10(-15) s. The first measurement of the lifetime difference between τ+ and τ- is performed. The upper limit on the relative lifetime difference between positive and negative τ leptons is |Δτ|/τ<7.0×10(-3) at 90% C.L.

Abstract: We search for bottomonium states in Υ(2S) → (bb)γ decays with an integrated luminosity of 24.7 fb(-1) recorded at the Υ(2S) resonance with the Belle detector at KEK, containing (157.8±3.6)×10(6) Υ(2S) events. The (bb) system is reconstructed in 26 exclusive hadronic final states composed of charged pions, kaons, protons, and K(S)(0) mesons. We find no evidence for the state recently observed around 9975 MeV (X(bb)) in an analysis based on a data sample of 9.3×10(6) Υ(2S) events collected with the CLEO III detector. We set a 90% confidence level upper limit on the branching fraction B[Υ(2S) → X(bb)γ] × ∑(i)B[X(bb) → h(i)] < 4.9×10(-6), summed over the exclusive hadronic final states employed in our analysis. This result is an order of magnitude smaller than the measurement reported with CLEO data. We also set an upper limit for the ηb(1S) state of B[Υ(2S) → ηb(1S)γ] × ∑(i)B[ηb(1S) → h(i)] < 3.7×10(-6).

Abstract: We measure the branching fraction of B- → τ- ν(τ) using the full Υ(4S) data sample containing 772×10(6) BB pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ e- collider. Events with BB pairs are tagged by reconstructing one of the B mesons decaying into hadronic final states, and B- → τ- ν(τ) candidates are detected in the recoil. We find evidence for B- → τ- ν(τ) with a significance of 3.0 standard deviations including systematic errors and measure a branching fraction B(B- → τ- ν(τ))=[0.72(-0.25)(+0.27)(stat)±0.11(syst)]×10(-4).

Abstract: We report the first evidence for the η(b)(2S) using the h(b)(2P)→η(b)(2S)γ transition and the first observation of the h(b)(1P)→η(b)(1S)γ and h(b)(2P)→η(b)(1S)γ transitions. The mass and width of the η(b)(1S) and η(b)(2S) are measured to be m(η(b)(1S))=(9402.4±1.5±1.8) MeV/c(2), m(η(b)(2S))=(9999.0±3.5(-1.9)(+2.8)) MeV/c(2), and Γ(η(b)(1S))=(10.8(-3.7-2.0)(+4.0+4.5)) MeV. We also update the h(b)(1P) and h(b)(2P) mass measurements. We use a 133.4 fb(-1) data sample collected at energies near the Υ(5S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider.

Abstract: We search for dimuon decays of a low mass particle in the decays B0→K*0 X and B0→ρ0 X using a data sample of 657×10(6)BB events collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ e- collider. We find no evidence for such a particle in the mass range from 212 MeV/c2 to 300 MeV/c2 for lifetimes below 10(-12) s, and set upper limits on its branching fractions. In particular, we search for a particle with a mass of 214.3 MeV/c2 reported by the HyperCP experiment, and obtain upper limits on the products B(B0→K*0 X)×B(X→μ+ μ- )<2.26(2.27)×10(-8) and B(B0→ρ0 X)×B(X→μ+ μ-)<1.73(1.73)×10(-8) at 90% C.L. for a scalar (vector) X particle.

Abstract: We report searches for B0→invisible and B0→invisible+γ decays, where the energy of the photon is required to be larger than 0.5 GeV. These results are obtained from a 711 fb-1 data sample that contains 772×106BB¯ pairs and was collected near the ϒ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- collider. We observe no significant signal for either decay and set upper limits on their branching fractions at 90% confidence level of B(B0→invisible)

Abstract: We present the first measurement of the Michel parameters η ‾ and ξκ in the radiative leptonic decay of the τ lepton using 703 fb-1 of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB e + e − collider. The Michel parameters are measured by an unbinned maximum likelihood fit to the kinematic information of e + e − → τ + τ − → ( π + π 0 ν ‾ ) ( l − ν ν ‾ γ ) ( l = e or μ ) . The preliminary values of the measured Michel parameters are η ‾ = − 2.0 ± 1.5 ± 0.8 and ξ κ = 0.6 ± 0.4 ± 0.2 , where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic.

Abstract: Many models to describe the nature of heavy quarkonia have been proposed and one of the ways to test them is to analyze charmonium states produced in two-photon collisions through measuring their two-photon decay width( Γ γ γ ) and the angular distribution since they provide information on properties and internal structure of charmonium states. In this analysis, we use the decay channel γ γ → X → J / ψ γ , J / ψ → l + l − ( l = e or μ ) based on the 980.4 fb − 1 Belle data sample, where X is a charmonium state. Previously, Belle and CLEO collaborations have reported measurements of γ γ → χ c 2 ( 1 P ) → J / ψ γ , J / ψ → l + l − using 32.6 fb − 1 and 14.4 fb − 1 samples, respectively. By analyzing an about 30 times larger data sample, we can make a more precise measurement of χ c 2 ( 1 P ) and other rare charmonium states including a new charmonium(-like) state. In this paper, we discuss the proposal and method of the analysis and show the result of the feasibility study using Monte Carlo (MC) samples of γ γ → χ c 2 ( 1 P ) → J / ψ γ .

Abstract: Using data samples of e+e- collisions collected at the ϒ(1S), ϒ(2S), and ϒ(3S) resonances with the Belle detector, we search for the three-body decay of the Ω(2012) baryon to KπΞ. This decay is predicted to dominate for models describing the Ω(2012) as a KΞ(1530) molecule. No significant Ω(2012) signals are observed in the studied channels, and 90% credibility level upper limits on the ratios of the branching fractions relative to KΞ decay modes are obtained.

Abstract: We report an improved measurement of D0 – D‾0 mixing and a search for CP violation in D0 decays to CP -even final states K+K− and π+π− . The measurement is based on the final Belle data sample of 976 fb −1 . The results are yCP=(1.11±0.22±0.09)% and AΓ=(−0.03±0.20±0.07)% , where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.

Abstract: We report the first observation of the spontaneous polarization of Λ and Λ[over ¯] hyperons transverse to the production plane in e^{+}e^{-} annihilation, which is attributed to the effect arising from a polarizing fragmentation function. For inclusive Λ/Λ[over ¯] production, we also report results with subtracted feed-down contributions from Σ^{0} and charm. This measurement uses a dataset of 800.4 fb^{-1} collected by the Belle experiment at or near a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV. We observe a significant polarization that rises with the fractional energy carried by the Λ/Λ[over ¯] hyperon.

Abstract: We report the observation of ϒ(2S)→γηb(1S) decay based on an analysis of the inclusive photon spectrum of 24.7 fb-1 of e+e- collisions at the ϒ(2S) center-of-mass energy collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. We measure a branching fraction of B[ϒ(2S)→γηb(1S)]=(6.1-0.7-0.6+0.6+0.9)×10-4 and derive an ηb(1S) mass of 9394.8-3.1-2.7+2.7+4.5 MeV/c2, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The significance of our measurement is greater than 7 standard deviations, constituting the first observation of this decay mode.

Abstract: We report the first evidence for isospin violation in B -> K*gamma and the first measurement of the difference of CP asymmetries between B+->.K*(+)gamma and B-0 -> K-*0 gamma. This analysis is based on the data sample containing 772 x 10(6)BB pairs that was collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric e(+)e(-) collider. We find evidence for the isospin violation with a significance of 3.1 sigma, Delta(0+) = [+6.2 +/- 1.5(stat) +/- 0.6(syst) +/- 1.2(f (+-)/f(00))] %, where the third uncertainty is due to the uncertainty on the fraction of B+B- to (BB0)-B-0 production in gamma(4S) decays. The measured value is consistent with predictions of the standard model. The result for the difference of CP asymmetries is Delta A(CP) = [+2.4 +/- 2.8(stat) +/- 0.5(syst)] %, consistent with zero. The measured branching fractions and CP asymmetries for charged and neutral B meson decays are the most precise to date. We also calculate the ratio of branching fractions of B-0 -> K-*0 gamma to B-s(0) -> phi gamma.

Abstract: The inclusive cross sections for dihadrons of charged pions and kaons (e(+)e(-) -> hhX) in electron-positron annihilation are reported. They are obtained as a function of the total fractional energy and invariant mass for any di-hadron combination in the same hemisphere as defined by the thrust event-shape variable and its axis. Since same-hemisphere dihadrons can be assumed to originate predominantly from the same initial parton, di-hadron fragmentation functions are probed. These di-hadron fragmentation functions are needed as an unpolarized baseline in order to quantitatively understand related spindependent measurements in other processes and to apply them to the extraction of quark transversity distribution functions in the nucleon. The di- hadron cross sections are obtained from a 655 fb(-1) data sample collected at or near the Y (4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider.

Abstract: We report a study of the charmless hadronic decay of the charged B meson to the three-body final state K+K-pi(+). The results are based on a data sample that contains 772 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs collected at the Y (4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. The measured inclusive branching fraction and direct CP asymmetry are (5.38 +/- 0.40 +/- 0.35) x 10(-6) and -0.170 +/- 0.073 +/- 0.017, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. The K+K- invariant mass distribution of the signal candidates shows an excess in the region below 1.5 GeV/c(2), which is consistent with the previous studies from BABAR and LHCb. In addition, strong evidence of a large direct CP asymmetry is found in the low K+K- invariant-mass region.

Abstract: We report the first measurement of the T-odd moments in the decay D-0 -> K-S(0) pi + pi(-)pi(0) from a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 966 fb(-1) collected by the Belle experiment at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. From these moments we determine the CP-violation-sensitive asymmetry a(CP)(T-odd) = [-0.28 +/- 1.38 (stat.)(-0.76)(+0.23) (syst.)] x 10(-3) , which is consistent with no CP violation. In addition, we perform a(CP)(T-odd) measurements in different regions of the D-0 -> K-S(0) pi + pi(-)pi(0) phase space;these are also consistent with no CP violation.

Abstract: The Double Chooz experiment has determined the value of the neutrino oscillation parameter $\theta_{13}$ from an analysis of inverse beta decay interactions with neutron capture on hydrogen. This analysis uses a three times larger fiducial volume than the standard Double Chooz assessment, which is restricted to a region doped with gadolinium (Gd), yielding an exposure of 113.1 GW-ton-years. The data sample used in this analysis is distinct from that of the Gd analysis, and the systematic uncertainties are also largely independent, with some exceptions, such as the reactor neutrino flux prediction. A combined rate- and energy-dependent fit finds $\sin^2 2\theta_{13}=0.097\pm 0.034(stat.) \pm 0.034 (syst.)$, excluding the no-oscillation hypothesis at 2.0 \sigma. This result is consistent with previous measurements of $\sin^2 2\theta_{13}$.

Abstract: We search for lepton-flavor and lepton-number-violating τ decays into a lepton (l= electron or muon) and two charged mesons ( h , h ′ = π ± or K ± ) using 854 fb − 1 of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e + e − collider. We obtain 90% confidence level upper limits on the τ → l h h ′ branching fractions in the range ( 2.0 – 8.4 ) × 10 − 8 . These results improve upon our previously published upper limits by factors of about 1.8 on average.

Abstract: We report the first search for the J(PC) = 0(--) glueball in Upsilon(1S) and Upsilon(2S) decays with data samples of (102 +/- 2) x 10(6) and (158 +/- 4) x 10(6) events, respectively, collected with the Belle detector. No significant signals are observed in any of the proposed production modes, and the 90% credibility level upper limits on their branching fractions in Upsilon(1S) and Upsilon(2S) decays are obtained. The inclusive branching fractions of the Upsilon(1S) and Upsilon(2S) decays into final states with chi(c1) are measured to be B(Upsilon(1S) -> chi(c1) + anything) = (1.90 +/- 0.43(stat) +/- 0.14(syst) x 10(-4) with an improved precision over prior measurements and B Upsilon(2S) -> chi(c1) + anything) = (2.24 +/- 0.44(stat) +/- 0.20(syst) x 10(-4) for the first time.

Abstract: We report a search for a dark vector gauge boson U' that couples to quarks in the decay chain D*(+) -> D-0 pi(+), D-0 -> K-S(0) eta, eta -> U'gamma, U' -> pi(+)pi- No signal is found and we set a mass-dependent limit on the baryonic fine structure constant of 10(-3)-10(-2) in the U' mass range of 290 to 520 MeV/c(2). This analysis is based on a data sample of 976 fb(-1) collected by the Belle experiment at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider.

Abstract: We report a measurement of the ratio R(D*) = B((B) over bar (0) -> D*(+)tau(-)(nu) over bar (tau))/B((B) over bar (0) -> D*(+)l(-)(nu) over bar (l))where l denotes an electron or a muon. The results are based on a data sample containing 772 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs recorded at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e(+)e(-) collider. We select a sample of B-0(B) over bar (0) pairs by reconstructing both B mesons in semileptonic decays to D*(-/+)l(+/-). We measure R(D*) = 0.302 +/- 0.030(stat) +/- 0.011(syst), which is within 1.6 sigma of the Standard Model theoretical expectation, where the standard deviation sigma includes systematic uncertainties. We use this measurement to constrain several scenarios of new physics in a model-independent approach.

Abstract: Using a data sample of 980 fb(-1) of e(+)e(-) annihilation data taken with the Belle detector operating at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider, we report the results of a study of excited Xi(c) states that decay, via the emission of photons and/or charged pions, into Xi(0)(c) or Xi(+)(c) ground state charmed-strange baryons. We present new measurements of the masses of all members of the Xi(0)(c), Xi(c)(2645), Xi(c)(2790), Xi(c)(2815), and Xi(c)(2980) isodoublets, measurements of the intrinsic widths of those that decay strongly, and evidence of previously unknown transitions.

Abstract: We report the discovery of Ξc(3055)0, observed by its decay into the final-state ΛD0, and present the first observation and evidence of the decays of Ξc(3055)+ and Ξc(3080)+ into ΛD+. We also perform a combined analysis of the ΛD+ with the Σc++K- and Σc∗++K- decay modes to measure the ratios of branching fractions, masses and widths with improved accuracy. We measure the ratios of branching fractions B(Ξc(3055)+→ΛD+)/B(Ξc(3055)+→Σc++K-)=5.09±1.01±0.76, B(Ξc(3080)+→ΛD+)/B(Ξc(3080)+→Σc++K-)=1.29±0.30±0.15, and B(Ξc(3080)+→Σc∗++K-)/B(Ξc(3080)+→Σc++K-)=1.07±0.27±0.04, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic. The analysis is performed using a 980 fb-1 data sample collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider.

Abstract: The process gamma gamma -> p (p) over barK(+)K(-) and its intermediate processes are measured for the first time using a 980 fb(-1) data sample collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. The production of p (p) over barK(+)K(-) and a Lambda(1520)(0) ((Lambda) over bar (1520)(0)) signal in the pK(-) ((p) over barK(+)) invariant mass spectrum are clearly observed. However, no evidence for an exotic baryon near 1540 MeV/c(2), denoted as Theta(1540)(0) ((Theta) over bar (1540)(0)) or Theta(1540)(++) (Theta(1540)(--)), is seen in the pK(-) ((p) over barK(+)) or pK(+) ((p) over barK(-)) invariant mass spectra. Cross sections for gamma gamma -> p (p) over barK(+)K(-), Lambda(1520)(0)(p) over barK(+) + c.c. and the products sigma(gamma gamma -> Theta(1540)(0)(p) over barK(+) + c.c.)B(Theta(1540)(0) -> pK(-)) and sigma(gamma gamma -> Theta(1540)(++)(p) over barK(-) + c.c.)B(Theta(1540)(++) -> pK(+)) are measured. We also determine upper limits on the products of the chi(c0) and chi(c2) two-photon decay widths and their branching fractions to p (p) over barK(+)K(-) at the 90% credibility level.

Abstract: We measure the decay Bs0→K0K0 using data collected at the ?(5S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- collider. The data sample used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 121.4 fb-1. We measure a branching fraction B(Bs0→K0K0)=[19.6-5.1+5.8(stat)±1.0(syst)±2.0(NBs0Bs0)]×10-6 with a significance of 5.1 standard deviations. This measurement constitutes the first observation of this decay.

Abstract: We present a measurement of the branching fraction and the longitudinal polarization fraction of B-0 -> rho(+)rho(-) decays, as well as the time-dependent CP violating parameters in decays into longitudinally polarized rho(+)rho(-) pairs with Belle's final data set of 772 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs, at the Upsilon(4S) resonance, collected at the asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider KEKB. We obtain B(B-0 -> rho(+)rho(-)) = (28.3 +/- 1.5(stat) +/- 1.5(syst)) x 10(-6), f(L) = 0.988 +/- 0.012(stat) +/- 0.023(syst), A(CP) = 0.00 +/- 0.10(stat) +/- 0.06(syst), S-CP = -0.13 +/- 0.15(stat) +/- 0.05(syst). We perform an isospin analysis to constrain the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa angle phi(2) and obtain two solutions with phi(2) = (93.7 +/- 10.6)degrees, being most compatible with other Standard-Model based fits to the data.

Abstract: We present a determination of the magnitude of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element vertical bar V-cb vertical bar using the decay B -> Dl nu(l) (l = e,mu) based on 711 fb(-1) of e(+)e(-) -> Upsilon(4S) data recorded by the Belle detector and containing 772 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs. One B meson in the event is fully reconstructed in a hadronic decay mode, while the other, on the signal side, is partially reconstructed from a charged lepton and either a D+ or D-0 meson in a total of 23 hadronic decay modes. The isospin-averaged branching fraction of the decay B -> Dl nu(l) is found to be B(B-0 -> D(-)l(vertical bar)nu(l)) = (2.31 +/- 0.03(stat) +/- 0.11(syst))%. Analyzing the differential decay rate as a function of the hadronic recoil with the parametrization of Caprini, Lellouch, and Neubert and using the form-factor prediction G(1) = 1.0541 +/- 0.0083 calculated by FNAL/MILC, we obtain eta(EW)vertical bar V-cb vertical bar = (40.12 +/- 1.34) x 10(-3), where eta(EW) is the electroweak correction factor. Alternatively, assuming the model-independent form-factor parametrization of Boyd, Grinstein, and Lebed and using lattice QCD data from the FNAL/MILC and HPQCD collaborations, we find eta(EW)vertical bar V-cb vertical bar = (41.10 +/- 1.14) x 10(-3).

Abstract: We search for the process B-0 -> pi(-) tau(+)nu(tau) using the full Belle data set of 711 fb(-1), corresponding to 772 x 10(6)B (B) over bar pairs, collected at the gamma (4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. We reconstruct one B meson in a hadronic decay and search for the B-0 -> pi(-)tau(+)nu(tau) process in the remainder of the event. No significant signal is observed and an upper limit of B(B-0 -> pi(-) tau(+)nu(tau)) < 2.5 x 10(-4) is obtained at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract: We report the first measurement of the lepton forward-backward asymmetry AFB as a function of the squared four-momentum of the dilepton system, q2, for the electroweak penguin process B→Xs+- with a sum of exclusive final states, where is an electron or a muon and Xs is a hadronic recoil system with an s quark. The results are based on a data sample containing 772×106 BB¯ pairs recorded at the (4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- collider. Abstract: We report a measurement of the differential cross section of $\pi^0$ pair production in single-tag two-photon collisions, $\gamma^* \gamma \to \pi^0 \pi^0$, in $e^+ e^-$ scattering. The cross section is measured for $Q^2$ up to 30 GeV$^2$, where $Q^2$ is the negative of the invariant mass squared of the tagged photon, in the kinematic range 0.5 GeV < W < 2.1 GeV and $|\cos \theta^*|$ < 1.0 for the total energy and pion scattering angle, respectively, in the $\gamma^* \gamma$ center-of-mass system. The results are based on a data sample of 759 fb$^{-1}$ collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. Abstract: We report the results of a study of B KIrk and /II K tic(2S) decays followed by qc and '/c(2S) decays to (K5K7). The results are obtained from a data sample containing 535 million BB-meson pairs collected by the Belle experiment at the KEKB e+e- collider. We measure the products of the branching fractions B(B > IC7ic)13(71, Ks K 7T) = (26.7 1.4(stat)+N(syst) 4.9(model)) x 10-6 and 8(B -+ K 71c(25))8(rIc(2S) Ksi(7tT) = (3.4+N(stat + model)t(syst)) x 10-6. Interference with the non-resonant component leads to significant model uncertainty in the measurement of these product branching fractions. Our analysis accounts for this interference and allows the model uncertainty to be reduced. We also obtain the following charmonia masses and widths: MO/c) = (2985.4 1.5(stat)1:8(syst)) MeV /c2, r(t1c)= (35.1 3.1(sta0+1:2(syst)) MeV/c2, M(ric (2S)) = (3636.111(stat + model)+3:70 (syst)) MeV/c2, r (17c (2S)) = (6.61:1(stat + model)11(syst)) MeV/c2. Abstract: We search for lepton-flavor-violating tau-> ell V^0 decays, where ell is an electron or muon and V^0 is one of the vector mesons rho^0, phi, omega, K*0 and K*0-bar. We use 854 fb^{-1} of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e^+e^- collider. No evidence for a signal is found in any decay mode, and we obtain 90% confidence level upper limits on the individual branching fractions in the range (1.2-8.4)*10^{-8}., 13 pages, 5 figures, submitted to Phys. Abstract: Gd-loaded liquid scintillators are promising tools for detection of anti-electron neutrinos, yet their stability remains a concern for neutrino experiments. This study investigated the instability of a Gd-loaded liquid scintillator and found that Gd precipitated and light yield decreased due to oxidation. The precipitation not only reduced transmission but also decreased the Gd concentration. However, when the antioxidant 2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol (BHT) was added to the liquid scintillator, we obtained a stable liquid scintillator at room temperature.

Abstract: The cross sections for the reactions e+ e- → φ{symbol} η, φ{symbol} η′, ρη, ρ η′ have been measured using a data sample of 516 fb- 1 collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ e- collider. The corresponding values of the cross sections are: 1.4 ± 0.4 ± 0.1 fb (φ{symbol} η), 5.3 ± 1.1 ± 0.4 fb (φ{symbol} η′), 3.1 ± 0.5 ± 0.1 fb (ρ η) and 3.3 ± 0.6 ± 0.2 fb (ρ η′). The energy dependence of the cross sections is presented using Belle measurements together with those of CLEO and BaBar. © 2009 Elsevier B.V.

Abstract: A prototype sampling electromagnetic calorimeter (17.1 radiation lengths) for future linear collider experiments was built, using 4 cm × 4 cm × 1 mm plastic scintillator tiles and 4 mm-thick lead absorber. Wavelength-shifting fibers were used to guide the scintillation light into multi-anode photo-multiplier tubes. The calorimeter was tested at the beam test facility of the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK) in 2004. In this article we present our beam test results for the tile/fiber calorimeter focusing on the linearity in energy response, the energy resolution, position resolution and uniformity across the tile front face.

Abstract: We report results from a study of the charmed double strange baryons Ωc 0 and Ωc * 0 at Belle. The Ωc 0 is reconstructed using the Ωc 0 → Ω- π+ decay mode, and its mass is measured to be (2693.6 ± 0.3-1.5 +1.8) MeV / c2. The Ωc * 0 baryon is reconstructed in the Ωc 0 γ mode. The mass difference MΩc* 0 - MΩc0 is measured to be (70.7 ± 0.9-0.9 +0.1) MeV / c2. The analysis is performed using 673 fb-1 of data on and near the Υ{hooked} (4 S) collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ e- collider. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. Abstract: We measure the CP-violating asymmetries in decays to the D0 → K+ K- and D0 → π+ π- CP eigenstates using 540 fb-1 of data collected with the Belle detector at or near the Υ{hooked} (4 S) resonance. Cabibbo-favored D0 → K- π+ decays are used to correct for systematic detector effects. The results, ACP K K = (- 0.43 ± 0.30 ± 0.11) % and ACP π π = (+ 0.43 ± 0.52 ± 0.12) %, are consistent with no CP violation. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract: We present results of a detailed study of the three-body over(B, )0 → Σc (2455)0 over(p, ) π+ decay. A significant enhancement of signal events is observed in the over(p, ) π+ invariant mass distribution near 1.5 GeV / c2 that is consistent with the presence of an intermediate baryonic resonance over(N, )0, where over(N, )0 is the over(N, ) (1440)0 P11 or over(N, ) (1535)0 S11 state, or an admixture of the two states. We measure the product B (over(B, )0 → Σc (2455)0 over(N, )0) × B (over(N, )0 → over(p, ) π+) = (0.80 ± 0.15 (stat .) ± 0.14 (syst .) ± 0.21) × 10-4, where the last error is due to the uncertainty in B (Λc + → p K- π+). The significance of the signal is 6.1 standard deviations. This analysis is based on a data sample of 357 fb-1, accumulated at the Υ{hooked} (4 S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ e- collider. © 2008 Elsevier B.V.

Abstract: We have searched for neutrinoless τ lepton decays into l and V0, where l stands for an electron or muon, and V0 for a vector meson (φ{symbol}, ω, K* 0, over(K, )* 0 or ρ0), using 543 fb-1 of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ e- collider. No excess of signal events over the expected background has been observed, and we set upper limits on the branching fractions in the range (5.9 - 18) × 10-8 at the 90% confidence level. These upper limits are significantly more restrictive than our previous results for the lφ{symbol}, l K* 0, l over(K, )* 0 and l ρ0 modes. © 2008 Elsevier B.V.

Abstract: KS 0 KS 0 production in two-photon collisions has been studied using a 397.6 fb-1 data sample collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+ e- collider. For the first time the cross sections are measured in the two-photon center-of-mass energy range between 2.4 GeV and 4.0 GeV and angular range | cos θ* | < 0.6. Combining the results with measurements of γ γ → K+ K- from Belle, we observe that the cross section ratio σ (KS 0 KS 0) / σ (K+ K-) decreases from ∼0.13 to ∼0.01 with increasing energy. Signals for the χc 0 and χc 2 charmonium states are also observed. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract: We report the first double differential cross sections of two charged pions and kaons (e(+)e(-) -> hhX) in electron-positron annihilation as a function of the fractional energies of the two hadrons for any charge and hadron combination. The dependence of these dihadron cross sections on the topology (same, opposite hemisphere or anywhere) is also studied with the help of the event shape variable thrust and its axis. The ratios of these dihadron cross sections for different charges and hadron combinations directly shed light on the contributing fragmentation functions. For example, we find that the ratio of same-sign pion pairs over opposite-sign pion pairs drops toward higher fractional energies where disfavored fragmentation is expected to be suppressed. These dihadron results are obtained from a 655 fb(-1) data sample collected near the gamma (4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. Extending the previously published single-pion and single-kaon cross sections, single-proton (e(+)e(-) -> pX) cross sections are extracted from a 159 fb(-1) data subsample.

Abstract: We report a measurement of the branching fraction ratios R(D)(()*()) of (B) over bar -> D-(*())tau(-)(nu) over bar (tau) relative to (B) over bar -> D-(*())l(-)(nu) over barl (where l = e or mu) using the full Belle data sample of 772 x 10(6)B (B) over bar pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. The measured values are R(D) = 0.375 +/- 0.064(stat) +/- 0.026(syst) and R(D*) = 0.293 +/- 0.038 (stat) +/- 0.015 (syst). The analysis uses hadronic reconstruction of the tag-side B meson and purely leptonic t decays. The results are consistent with earlier measurements and do not show a significant deviation from the standard model prediction.

Abstract: We report a measurement of the branching fraction of B+ -> tau(+) nu(tau) decays using a data sample of 772 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs, collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. We reconstruct the accompanying B meson in a semileptonic decay and detect the recoiling B candidate in the decay channel B+ -> tau(+) nu(tau). We obtain a branching fraction of B(B+ -> tau(+) nu(tau)) = [1.25 +/- 0.28(stat.) +/- 0.27(syst.)] x 10-(4). This result is in good agreement with previous measurements and the expectation from the calculation based on the Standard Model.

Abstract: We report a measurement of the time-dependent CP asymmetry of B0->D(*)CP h0 decays, where the light neutral hadron h0 is a pi0, eta or omega meson, and the neutral D meson is reconstructed in the CP eigenstates K+ K-, K0S pi0 or K0S omega. The measurement is performed combining the final data samples collected at the Y(4S) resonance by the BaBar and Belle experiments at the asymmetric-energy B factories PEP-II at SLAC and KEKB at KEK, respectively. The data samples contain ( 471 +/- 3 ) x 10^6 BB pairs recorded by the BaBar detector and ( 772 +/- 11 ) x 10^6, BB pairs recorded by the Belle detector. We measure the CP asymmetry parameters -eta_f S = +0.66 +/- 0.10 (stat.) +/- 0.06 (syst.) and C = -0.02 +/- 0.07 (stat.) +/- 0.03 (syst.). These results correspond to the first observation of CP violation in B0->D(*)CP h0 decays. The hypothesis of no mixing-induced CP violation is excluded in these decays at the level of 5.4 standard deviations.

Abstract: We report on the first observations of (B) over bar (0) -> D-1 (2430)(0)omega, (B) over bar (0) -> D-1 (2420)(0)omega, and (B) over bar (0) -> D-2* (2460)(0)omega decays. The (B) over bar (0) -> D*(+) rho(1450)(-) decay is also observed. The branching fraction measurements are based on (771.6 +/- 10.6) x 10(6) B (B) over bar events collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. The fractions of longitudinal polarization of the D** states as well as partial wave fractions of the D-1 (2430)(0) are obtained. We also set a 90% confidence level upper limit for the product of branching fractions of B((B) over bar (0) -> D*(+)b(1) (1235)(-)) x B(b(1) (1235)(-) -> omega pi(-)). The measurements show evidence of nontrivial final-state interaction phases for the rho-meson-like amplitudes.
