The electron target asymmetries A || and A⊥ with target spin parallel and perpendicular to the momentum transfer $\ensuremath{\boldsymbol{q}}$ were measured for both the two- and three-body breakup of 3He in the 3 $ \overrightarrow{\rm He}$ (¯e, e'p)-reaction. Polarized electrons were scattered off polarized 3He in the quasielastic regime in parallel kinematics with the scattered electron and the knocked-out proton detected using the Three-Spectrometer Facility at MAMI. The results are compared to Faddeev calculations which take into account Final-State Interactions as well as Meson Exchange Currents. The experiment confirms the prediction of a large effect of Final-State Interactions in the asymmetry of the three-body breakup and of an almost negligible one for the two-body breakup

In 2007 the Mainz Microtron MAMI has been upgraded to 1.5 GeV electron beam energy, crossing the energy threshold for open strangeness production. The strangeness quantum number, as carried by the strange quark, provides valuable information on the contribution of individual quark flavours to hadronic processes. Theoretically, the strange quark with its rest energy of order 150MeV is particularly interesting because it can neither be treated as a massless nor as a heavy quark. Experimentally, an instrument of central importance for the charged kaon electro-production off the proton or light nuclei at MAMI is the magnetic spectrometer Kaos that was installed recently and is now routinely operated by the A1 collaboration.

Cross sections are presented as a function of the momentum of the recoil proton and the momentum transfer. Continuum Faddeev calculations using the Argonne V18 and Bonn-B nucleon-nucleon potentials overestimate the measured cross sections by a factor 5 at low recoil proton momentum with the discrepancy becoming smaller at higher recoil proton momentum.

We present the first detailed measurement of incoherent photoproduction of neutral pions to a discrete state of a residual nucleus. The $^{12}$C$(\gamma,\pi^{0})^{12}$C$^{*}_{4.4MeV}$ reaction has been studied with the Glasgow photon tagger at MAMI employing a new technique which uses the large solid angle Crystal Ball detector both as a $\pi^{0}$ spectrometer and to detect decay photons from the excited residual nucleus. The technique has potential applications to a broad range of future nuclear measurements with the Crystal Ball and similar detector systems elsewhere. The data are sensitive to the propagation of the $\Delta$ in the nuclear medium and will give the first information on matter transition form factors from measurements with an electromagnetic probe. The beam-recoil double polarization P_{x'}^h and P_{z'}^h and the recoil polarization P_{y'} were measured for the first time for the p(\vec{e},e'\vec{p})��reaction at a four-momentum transfer of Q^2=0.1 GeV^2/c^2 and a center of mass production angle of ��= 120^\circ at MAMI C. With a center of mass energy range of 1500 MeV < W < 1550 MeV the region of the S_{11}(1535) and D_{13}(1520) resonance was covered. The results are discussed in the framework of a phenomenological isobar model (Eta-MAID). While P_{x'}^h and P_{z'}^h are in good agreement with the model, P_{y'} shows a significant deviation, consistent with existing photoproduction data on the polarized-target asymmetry., 4 pages, 1 figure

An experiment on the radiative pi^+ meson photoproduction from the proton (gamma p->gamma pi^+ n) was carried out at the Mainz Microtron MAMI in the kinematic region 537 MeV, Comment: 34 pages, 12 figures, final version to appear in Eur. Phys. J. A; typos have been corrected

Delta particles will be produced in nuclear medium using electron scattering reaction and their properties will be invetigated in the triple coincidence measurement 12C(e, e'ppi-)11C. A telescope of silicon detectors will be constructed and used for the detection of protons in this reaction, scattered electrons and produced pions will be detected using standard magnetic spectrometers of A1 collaboration.

In two series of high-resolution coincidence experiments at the three-spectrometer facility at MAMI, the H(e,e'pi^+)X and D(e,e'p)X reactions were studied to search for narrow nucleon resonances below pion threshold. The missing-mass resolution was 0.6 to 1.6 MeV/c^2 (FWHM) in the proton experiment and 0.9 to 1.3 MeV/c^2 in the deuteron experiment. The experiments covered the missing-mass region from the neutron mass up to about 1050 and 1100 MeV/c^2, respectively. None of our measurements showed a signal for narrow resonances to a level of down to 10^-4 with respect to the neutron peak in the missing-mass spectra., Comment: 5 pages and 4 figures

In two series of high-resolution coincidence experiments at the three-spectrometer facility at MAMI, the H(e, epi+)X and 2H(e, ep)X reactions were studied to search for narrow nucleon resonances below pion threshold. The missing-mass resolution was 0.6-1.6 MeV/c2 full width at half maximum in the proton experiment and 0.9-1.3 MeV/c2 in the deuteron experiment. The experiments covered the missing-mass region from the neutron mass up to about 1050 and 1100 MeV/c2, respectively. None of our measurements showed a signal for narrow resonances to a level of down to 10-4 with respect to the neutron peak in the missing-mass spectra.

Polarization transfer in the 4He(e,e'p)3H reaction at a Q^2 of 0.4 (GeV/c)^2 was measured at the Mainz Microtron MAMI. The ratio of the transverse to the longitudinal polarization components of the ejected protons was compared with the same ratio for elastic ep scattering. The results are consistent with a recent fully relativistic calculation which includes a predicted medium modification of the proton form factor based on a quark-meson coupling model., 5 pages, Latex, 2 postscript figures, submitted to Physics Letters B

Precision studies of the reaction $^{3}$He(e,e$^\prime$p) using the three-spectrometer facility at the Mainz microtron MAMI are presented. All data are for quasielastic kinematics at $|\vec{q} | =685$ MeV/c. Absolute cross sections were measured at three electron kinematics. For the measured missing momenta range from 10 to 165 MeV/c, no strength is observed for missing energies higher than 20 MeV. Distorted momentum distributions were extracted for the two-body breakup and the continuum. The longitudinal and transverse behavior was studied by measuring the cross section for three photon polarizations. The longitudinal and transverse nature of the cross sections is well described by a currently accepted and widely used prescription of the off-shell electron-nucleon cross-section. The results are compared to modern three-body calculations and to previous data., 4 pages, 3 figures. Submitted for publication in Phys. Rev. Lett

The KaoS spectrometer at the Mainz Microtron MAMI, Germany, is perceived as the ideal candidate for a dedicated spectrometer in kaon and hypernuclei electroproduction. KaoS will be equipped with new read-out electronics, a completely new focal plane detector package consisting of scintillating fibres, and a new trigger system. First prototypes of the fibre detectors and the associated new front-end electronics are shown in this contribution. The Mainz hypernuclei research program will complement the hypernuclear experiments at the planned FAIR facility at GSI, Germany. At the proposed antiproton storage ring the spectroscopy of double Lambda hypernuclei is one of the four main topics which will be addressed by the PANDA Collaboration. The experiments require the operation of high purity germanium (HPGe) detectors in high magnetic fields (B= 1T) in the presence of a large hadronic background. The emission of neutron-proton pairs is the most probable outcome of photon absorbtion in the energy region above the giant resonance at least up to the pion threshold, but little detailed information on the process has been obtained due to experimental difficulties. Two nucleon emission following photon absorbtion by a correlated pair is favoured\ud compared to direct knockout of a single nucleon, which is suppressed by the large momentum mismatch between the ingoing photon and a single outgoing fast nucleon. Studies of the (gamma,np) process seek firstly to obtain a quantitative \ud understanding of the photon interaction mechanism, and through this to open the door to investigations of nucleon\ud correlations in nuclei [1], information about which is long sought but not readily obtainable.
