2. FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH THERAPEUTIC NON-ADHERENCE AMONG HYPERTENSIVE INDIVIDUALS WHO SEEK EMERGENCY CARE.

- Abstract
Objective: to analyze factors associated with therapeutic non-adherence among individuals with Arterial Hypertension who seek emergency care and/or assistance due to hypertensive complications. Method: this is a cross-sectional study conducted from December 2019 to October 2020 with 238 people living in a medium-sized municipality from southern Brazil using Morisky's 8-Item Medication Adherence Scale. Multiple Logistic Regression was used in the analysis. Results: a total of 86 (36.1%) participants were considered as non-adherent. A higher change of non-adherence was observed in people younger than 60 years of age (Odds Ratio=2.04), who sought emergency services in the three years under study (Odds Ratio=5.08), and who had a bond with Primary Health Care professionals (Odds Ratio=1.96). Conclusion: acknowledging the factors associated with non-adherence to the therapy will allow professionals to conduct educational interventions and assist people with hypertension according to their needs, thus preventing/postponing complications. Resumo Objetivo: identificar como o idoso independente e o familiar mais próximo vivenciam a relação de cuidado. Metodologia: estudo descritivo e exploratório, de abordagem qualitativa, realizado em Jandaia do Sul (estado do Paraná, Brasil), com 15 idosos independentes e respectivos familiares. Os dados foram coletados em junho de 2012, por meio de entrevista semiestruturada, e submetidos à análise de conteúdo, na modalidade temática. Resultados: a média de idade dos idosos foi de 70 ± 9 anos; 85 % dos participantes (13) eram do sexo feminino. A média de idade dos familiares foi de 45 ± 5 anos, sendo 85 % (13) do sexo feminino (9 filhas e 4 noras); os dois familiares do sexo masculino eram filhos. A análise das informações possibilitou a identificação de duas categorias: A percepção do idoso independente sobre o cuidado recebido e A percepção do familiar sobre o cuidado ofertado. Conclusão: o cuidado ofertado pelo familiar era percebido pelos idosos independentes de maneira impositiva e controladora, em descompasso com a intenção do familiar, que era ofertar cuidados e atenção. Essa dissonância na percepção de ambos acaba por sobrecarregar a relação entre eles. Resumen Objetivo: identificar cómo el anciano independiente y el familiar más próximo vivencian la relación de cuidado. Metodología: estudio descriptivo y exploratorio, de enfoque cualitativo, realizado en Jandaia do Sul (departamento de Paraná, Brasil), con 15 ancianos independientes y sus respectivos familiares. Los datos fueron recolectados en junio de 2012 por medio de entrevista semi-estructurada y sometidos al análisis de contenido, en la modalidad temática. Resultados: el promedio de edad de los ancianos fue de 70 ± 9 años; el 85 % de los participantes (13) era del sexo femenino. El promedio de edad de los familiares fue de 45 ± 5 años, siendo el 85 % (13) del sexo femenino (9 hijas y 4 nueras); los dos familiares del sexo masculino eran hijos de los ancianos. El análisis de las informaciones posibilitó la identificación de dos categorías: La percepción del anciano independiente sobre el cuidado recibido y La percepción del familiar sobre el cuidado ofrecido. Conclusión: el cuidado ofrecido por el familiar era percibido por los ancianos independientes de modo impositivo y controlador, en desacuerdo con la intención del familiar, que era ofrecer cuidados y atención. Esta disonancia en la percepción de ambos termina por sobrecargar la relación entre ellos. Results: the mean age of the elderly persons was 70 ± 9 years and 85% of the participants (13) were female. The mean age of the family members was 45 ± 5 years. 85% (13) of them were female, (9 daughters and 4 daughters-in-law), while the two male family members were children. An analysis of the information made it possible to break the study down into two categories: The independent elderly persons' perception of the care they received, and The family member' perception about the care they provided. Conclusion: the independent elderly persons regarded the care provided by the members of their family as authoritarian with the aim of controlling them, which contrasted with the view of the family member who believed that they were caring for and looking after their elderly relatives. This clash between their respective perceptions of the situation tends to make their relationship stressful.

Objective: to know the experience that permeates the home hospital stay of the elderly from the family perspective. Method: exploratory study with a qualitative approach, developed with ten family caregivers of the elderly registered in a Home Care Service. Data were collected from April to June 2019, through semi-structured individual interviews and submitted to content analysis. Results: home care provides benefits to care, such as comfort from home, affective bonds and support from health professionals. Inexperience in direct care at home, scarcity of material and financial resources and lack of integration between services were described as challenges for care. The actions of training the caregiver for hospital discharge imply the continuity of care and improvement of the necessary skills. Final considerations: the results demonstrated the importance of understanding the potentialities and challenges for families to care for the elderly at home. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective. To compare the quality of life of elderly living at a geriatric institution with that of elderly living in the community. Methodology. Quantitative study in which the quality of life of 50 elderly living in condominiums was compared with that of 173 community dwellers. To assess the quality of life, the instruments WHOQOL-BREF and WHOQOL-OLD were applied. The data were collected between November 2011 and February 2012. Results. The groups differed significantly with regard to the domains: physical, environment, functioning of the senses and participation, which were better in the condominium residents; while the community dwellers scored higher in the domain intimacy. Conclusion. Different factors can interfere in the elderly’s quality of life, including the place of residence, which indicates the need for further monitoring by health professionals, especially nurses, with a view to outlining strategies to maintain the elderly’s quality of life Objetivo. Comparar la calidad de vida de ancianos residentes en una institución geriátrica -condominios- versus la de los que son residentes en su hogar -en la comunidad-. Metodología. Estudio cuantitativo en el que se comparó la calidad de vida de 50 ancianos que vivían en una institución geriátrica con la de 173 residentes en su hogar. Para evaluar la calidad de vida se aplicaron los instrumentos WHOQOL-BREF y WHOQOL-OLD. Los datos se recolectaron de noviembre de 2011 a febrero de 2012. Resultados. Los grupos difirieron significativamente en relación con los dominios: físico, medio ambiente, funcionamiento de los sentidos y participación, que fueron mejores en los residentes en el condominio; mientras que el dominio intimidad fue mayor en los ancianos residentes en la comunidad. Conclusión. Existen diversos factores que pueden interferir en la calidad de vida del anciano, incluso el lugar de residencia, lo que indica la necesidad de un mayor acompañamiento de los profesionales del área de la salud, en especial del enfermero, con el fin de trazar estrategias tendientes al mantenimiento de su calidad de vida. Objetivo. Comparar a qualidade de vida de idosos residentes em uma instituição geriátrica contra aqueles que residem em sua casa. Metodologia. Estudo quantitativo sobre a qualidade de vida dos 50 idosos que vivem em condomínios com 173 residentes na comunidade foram comparados. Para avaliar a qualidade de vida das ferramentas WHOQOL-BREF e WHOQOL-OLD foram aplicados. Os dados foram coletados a partir de novembro de 2011 a fevereiro 2012. Resultados. Os grupos diferiram significativamente em relação aos domínios: físico, ambiental, funcionamento e participação dos sentidos, que foram melhores nos moradores do condomínio; enquanto domínio privacidade foi maior nos moradores mais antigos. Conclusão. Vários fatores podem interferir na qualidade de vida dos idosos, incluindo o local de residência, o que indica a necessidade de maior apoio dos profissionais de saúde, especialmente os enfermeiros, a fim de desenvolver estratégias que visem manutenção da qualidade de vida dos idosos.

26. Care challenges for deaf people experienced by hearing family members: an exploratory study.

- Abstract
Objective: to identify the difficulties experienced by hearing family members in relation to caring for the health of deaf people. Method: exploratory, qualitative study, conducted in June 2018, with six family members of deaf people. Data were collected in the participants' homes, by means of semistructured interviews which were later submitted to content analysis. Results: the relationship between the deaf person and the family is influenced by the communication strategies used. The main reported difficulty was the effective establishment of communication between health professionals and the deaf person. Although, the family is an indispensable "resource" which helps to overcome this difficulty, they are not always able to express the exact symptoms experienced by the family member. Conclusion: Hearing family members accompany their deaf family members in most visits to health services, due to the absence of professionals who communicate in Libras, and health care is compromised for family members who do not communicate in Libras which causes insecurity.
