The world is recognizing the importance of renewable energy sources, which is evident from the increase in newly installed capacities from year to year. In the previous year2021, as many as 315 GW of new renewable energy sources were installed, and this importance is also noticed by Republic of Croatia, which exceeds the average of the European Union in terms of the share of renewable energy sources in the final consumption of electricity. This work aims to determine the profitability of photovoltaic systems for powering heat pumps, in such a way that the existing gas heating of an object in the city of Slavonski Brod is replaced by a heat pump (air-water) powered by a photovoltaic system. The existing heating system represents the actual state of consumption, recalculated at current market prices, while the counsumption of the heat pump is estimated bassed on the energy consumed in the first case. The work concluded that it takes 11 years to pay back the investment at current market prices, both for energy sources and for the systems themselves. It was found that the combination of photovoltaic systems and heat pumps is an economical and profitable investment.
