Single crystal of sodium 4-hydroxybenzenesulfonate dihydrate (Na-4-HBS) was grown from an aqueous solution by slow evaporation method. Powder X-ray diffraction study was carried out to identify the lattice parameters of the crystal. FT-IR spectral analysis confirmed the existence of various functional groups in the compound. The optical transmittance, cut-off wavelength and band gap energy were estimated from the UV-Vis studies. Photoluminescence studies revealed the transition mechanism by optical excitation. The variation of dielectric properties and AC conductivity of the grown crystal with frequency was studied at different temperatures. Measurements of mechanical properties of Na-4-HBS were carried out to find the hardness of the material. The laser induced surface damage threshold and relative second harmonic generation nonlinear optical properties of the grown crystal were studied using Q-switched Nd:YAG laser. Abstract Novel organic nonlinear optical material 4-Aminopyridinium Trichloro Acetate (4ATCA) crystals were grown from aqueous solution by the slow evaporation method for the first time. Single Crystal X-ray diffraction reveals that the grown crystal belongs to an orthorhombic system with a space group of Pbca. The morphological study identifies various planes in the crystal and prominent plane was found to be (0–10). The presence of functional groups and other chemical components were analyzed by FTIR study. The crystal is transparent in the entire visible region (350 nm–700 nm) and a lower cut-off value was found to be 218 nm. The laser damage threshold value of the crystal was estimated to be 3.2 GW/cm2. The sharp endothermic peak at 170.5 °C, limits its NLO applications. The low dielectric loss value reveals lower defect density of the grown crystal. SHG test shows that the material 4ATCA has conversion efficiency, 1.5 times that of KDP crystal. An exceedingly high-quality second and third-order nonlinear optical (TONLO) single crystal trisglycine epsomite (TGE) has been grown productively using aqueous solution by conventional solution growth method. Single crystal XRD confirms the distortion of crystal structure from orthorhombic to triclinic with space group. CHN analysis authenticates the occurrence of carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen in the grown crystal. FTIR studies substantiate the existence of functional groups. The optical transmission studies proves the transparency of the sample in the entire visible region and band gap was determined using Tauc’s plot. The output intensity of SHG was verified by Kurtz and Perry powder technique and it was found to be 0.792 times greater than that of KDP. TONLO properties such as nonlinear refraction (NLR), nonlinear absorption (NLA), third-order susceptibility (χ 3 ) and hyperpolarizability (γ) were determined with high accuracy using effectively attributes to self-defocusing effect also with high third-order susceptibility comparing to other NLO crystals. A novel organic single crystal of Piperazinium (bis) p-toluenesulfonate (PPTS) was grown by a slow evaporation solution growth technique. The structure of the grown crystal was determined using single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The PPTS crystal belongs to the triclinic crystal system with space group of P 1 ¯ . The presence of functional groups was confirmed by FTIR spectral analysis. The optical transmittance range and cut-off wavelength were identified by UV–vis–NIR spectral studies. An efficient nonlinear optical single crystal of 2-phenylethylammonium p-hydroxybenzoate (2PPHB) was grown from aqueous solution by slow evaporation solution growth method. Single crystal X-ray diffraction studies confirmed that 2PPHB crystallizes in orthorhombic crystal system with non-centrosymmetric space group of Pna21. The presence of functional groups in the synthesized compound was identified by FTIR spectral analysis. The grown crystals were thermally stable up to 155°C. UV-vis absorption, photoluminescence and birefringence optical properties of grown crystal were explored. Abstract: Picolinium maleate (PM), an organic material has been synthesised and single crystals were grown by slow evaporation technique. The structure of the grown crystal was elucidated by using single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. PM crystal belongs to the monoclinic crystallographic system with space group P21/c. The crystalline perfection of the grown crystals was analyzed by high-resolution X-ray diffraction rocking curve measurements. The presence of functional groups in PM was identified by FTIR and FT-NMR spectral analyses. Thermal behaviour and stability of picolinium maleate were studied by TGA/DTA analyses. UV–Vis spectral studies reveal that PM crystals are transparent in the wavelength region 327–1100nm. The laser damage threshold value of PM crystal was found to be 4.3GW/cm2 using Nd:YAG laser. Image, graphical abstract A new organic single crystal viz, piperazinium bis (5-chlorosalicylate) (P5C) was grown by low temperature solution growth method and its physico-chemical properties were established. The unit cell parameters (a = 11.9306 Å, b = 8.7592 Å, c = 9.3103 Å, α = 90°, β= 100.95°, γ = 90°) were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction data. The presence of various functional groups in the structure was elucidated by FTIR, Raman and proton NMR spectral studies. The P5C crystal exhibits the good optical tansmittance in the region of 400 to 1200 nm. From photoluminescence studies, the violet emission spectrum was observed under the excitation wavelength of 380 nm. The thermal behaviour of the P5C crystal was analyzed by TG-DSC analysis. The mechanical strength of the grown material classifies it as soft material. The results from Z-scan technique validate the NLO properties. The nonlinear optical material: o-Phenylenediaminium p-Toluenesulfonate was synthesized and crystal was grown by the slow evaporation method.
