Optical quantum network plays an important role in large scale quantum communication. However, different components for photon generation, transmission, storage and manipulation in network usually cannot interact directly due to the wavelength and bandwidth differences, and thus interfaces are needed to overcome such problems. We propose an optical interface for frequency down-conversion and bandwidth compression based on the counter-propagating quasi-phase-matching difference frequency generation process in the periodically-poled lithium niobate on insulator waveguide. We prove that a separable spectral transfer function can be obtained only by choosing proper pump bandwidth, thus relaxing the limitation of material, dispersion, and working wavelength as a result of the counter-propagation phase-matching configuration. With numerical simulations, we show that our design results in a nearly separable transfer function with the Schmidt number very close to 1. With proper pump bandwidth, an photon at central wavelength of 550 nm with a bandwidth ranging from 50 GHz to 5 THz can be converted to a photon at central wavelength of 1,545 nm with a much narrower bandwidth of 33 GHz.

Single longitudinal mode and single polarization are basic requirements of high performance fiber lasers, while their realizations are nontrivial, owing to the long laser cavity and lack of polarization selection of ordinary optical fibers. Here, we demonstrate an all-fiber narrow-linewidth laser realized on an external high-Q fiber ring, with combined functions of single-longitude-mode selection and linewidth reduction. A single-longitude-mode laser with a high polarization extinction ratio of ∼ 40 d B and low white frequency noise at 0.3 H z 2 / H z is achieved, corresponding to a fundamental linewidth of ∼ 0.92 H z . Using all non-polarization fiber components and ordinary gain fiber, our scheme shows the realization of narrow-linewidth single-polarization fiber lasers in a simple and cost-effective way, promising for broadband applications.

We report the generation of frequency-uncorrelated photon pairs from counter-propagating spontaneous parametric down-conversion in a periodically-poled KTP waveguide. The joint spectral intensity of photon pairs is characterized by measuring the corresponding stimulated process, namely, the difference frequency generation process. The experimental result shows a clear uncorrelated joint spectrum, where the backward-propagating photon has a narrow bandwidth of 7.46 GHz and the forward-propagating one has a bandwidth of 0.23 THz like the pump light. The heralded single-photon purity estimated through Schmidt decomposition is as high as 0.996, showing a perspective for ultra-purity and narrow-band single-photon generation. Such unique feature results from the backward-wave quasi-phase-matching condition and does not has a strict limitation on the material and working wavelength, thus fascinating its application in photonic quantum technologies.

Soliton Kerr combs show wide potential for optical sensing such as spectroscopy. Here we demonstrate deep neural networks for predicting the microcomb formation. The error of this method could be < 4%.

Multispectral frequency combs provide new architectures for laser spectroscopy, clockwork, and high-capacity communications. Frequency microcombs have demonstrated remarkable impact in frequency metrology and synthesis, albeit with spectral bandwidth bounded by intrinsic second-order dispersion and consequently low-intensities at the spectral edges. Here we report coherent satellite clusters in multispectral regenerative frequency microcombs with enhanced intensities at the octave points and engineered frequency span. Beyond the conventional bandwidth of parametric oscillation, the regenerative satellites are facilitated by higher-order dispersion control, allowing for multiphase-matched parametric processes. The satellite span is deterministically controlled from 34 to 72 THz by pumped at C/L-bands, with coherence preserved with the central comb through the nonlinear parametric process. We further show the mirrored appearance of the satellite transition dynamics simultaneously with the central comb at each comb state. These multispectral satellites extend the scope of parametric-based frequency combs and provide a unique platform for clockwork, spectroscopy and communications. Microresonator Kerr frequency combs are promising systems for high-capacity optical communication schemes, but their bandwidth is limited by intrinsic chromatic dispersion. Here, coherent satellite clusters are observed beyond the conventional bandwidth of parametric oscillation, whose frequency can be tuned deterministically.

We demonstrate a broadband optical parametric oscillation, using a sheet cavity, via cavity phase-matching. A 21.2 THz broad comb-like spectrum is achieved, with a uniform line spacing of 133.0 GHz, despite a relatively large dispersion of 275.4 fs2/mm around 1064 nm. With 22.6% high slope efficiency, and 14.9 kW peak power handling, this sheet optical parametric oscillator can be further developed for χ (2) comb.

Narrow-linewidth lasers are essential for various applications, but are limited by their size, weight, power, and cost requirements. Here we demonstrate a self-injection locked diode laser fabricated with a high quality factor fiber Fabry–Perot resonator, with a 145 Hz free-running linewidth. The locking scheme is all-fiber for plug-and-play operation. White frequency noise of 50 H z 2 / H z is measured with over 42 dB reduction from the low-cost TO-can distributed feedback laser diode, and shows its wide applications in a compact and cost-effective way.

We study the effect of dimension variation for second-harmonic generation (SHG) in lithium niobate on insulator (LNOI) waveguides. Non-trivial SHG profiles in both type-0 and type-I quasi-phase matching are observed during the wavelength tuning of the fundamental light. Theoretical modeling shows that the SHG profile and efficiency can be greatly affected by the waveguide cross-section dimension variations, especially the thickness variations. In particular, our analysis shows that a thickness variation of tens of nanometers is in good agreement with the experimental results. Such investigations could be used to evaluate fabrication performance of LNOI-based nonlinear optical devices.

We demonstrate a tunable optical parametric oscillator in a periodically poled congruently grown lithium tantalite whispering gallery mode resonator. The resonator is mechanically polished to millimeter size, and the quality factor is approximately 107 at 1064 nm. Our experiments show that this kind of resonator is capable of reaching a very low threshold and having a wide tuning range. Combined with its narrow resonant linewidth, it is potentially used as a compact, widely tunable, and narrow-linewidth infrared to mid-infrared laser source.

Alloying in two-dimension has been a hot spot in the development of new, versatile systems of optics and electronics. Alloys have been demonstrated to be a fascinating strategy to modulate the chemical and electronic properties of two-dimensional nanosheets. We firstly reported ultra-broadband enhanced nonlinear saturable absorption of Mo0.53W0.47Te2 alloy at 0.6, 1.0, and 2.0 μm. The nonlinear saturable absorption of Mo0.53W0.47Te2 saturable absorber (SA) was measured by the open aperture Z-scan technique. Compared to MoTe2 and WTe2 SAs, the Mo0.53W0.47Te2 SA showed five times deeper modulation depth, 8.6% lower saturable intensity, and one order larger figure of merit. Thus, our research provides a method of alloys to find novel materials with more outstanding properties for optics and optoelectronic applications.

We report an observation of the second-order correlation between twin beams generated by amplified spontaneous parametric down-conversion operating above threshold with kilowatt-level peak power, from a periodically poled LiTaO3 crystal via a single-pass scheme. Photocurrent correlation was measured because of the bright photon streams, with raw visibility of 37.9% or 97.3% after electronic filtering. As expected in our theory, this correlation is robust and insensitive to parametric gain and detection loss, enabling important applications in optical communications, precision measurement, and nonlocal imaging.

We demonstrated the efficient plasmon-induced nonlinear absorption of liquid metal GaInSn nanospheres prepared by a facile liquid-phase method. With GaInSn as saturable absorbers, a passively Q-switching operation was obtained at both 1.3 and 2 μm. The pulse width of 32 ns was achieved at 1.3 μm with repetition rate of 44 kHz, single pulse energy of 51.9 μJ, and output power of 425 mW. Meanwhile, 510 ns and 92 kHz pulses with energy of 36.1 μJ and output power of 2.48 W were obtained at 2 μm. This work provides the potential of liquid metal for improving metal functions and flexible optical devices.

We present an experimental realization of a compact and reliable way to build a nondegenerate polarization-entangled photon-pair source based on a dual-periodically-poled $ {\rm Ti}:{{\rm LiNbO}_3} $Ti:LiNbO3 waveguide, which is in the telecommunication window and compatible with the fiber quantum networks. The dual-periodic structure allows two inherently concurrent quasiphase-matching spontaneous parametric down-conversion processes pumped by a single laser beam, hence enabling our source to be compact and stable. We show that our source has a high brightness of $ B = 1.22{\rm } \times {\rm }{10^7}\;{\rm pairs}/(\rm s \times mW \times nm) $B=1.22×107pairs/(s×mW×nm). With quantum state tomography, we estimate an entanglement fidelity of $ 0.945 \pm 0.003 $0.945±0.003. A violation of Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt inequality with $ S = 2.75 \pm 0.03 $S=2.75±0.03 is also demonstrated.

We report Kerr frequency combs with two types of satellites, enabled by multiple phase matching in microcavities. Satellite comb clusters at ≈ 1.3 μm and 2.0 μm regimes are simultaneously generated with the central comb, with a demonstrated high external conversion efficiency reaching up to -30dB.

We demonstrate a single-photon SWAP gate between polarization and spatial momentum on a SOI chip. 19.8% error ratio is obtained, and phase coherence of the SWAP operation is measured via single photon interference with up to 58.7% visibility.

Multipartite quantum entanglement is a powerful resource for enriching the functionality of quantum computation and quantum communication. In this Letter, we propose a new method to generate a two-photon multipath Dicke state with concurrent spontaneous parametric downconversion processes from a single periodically poled nonlinear photonic crystal. We design the poling structure to produce a three-path Dicke state where three quasi-phase-matching conditions are fulfilled simultaneously by a hybrid one- and two-dimensionally poled nonlinear photonic crystal. We use genuine multipartite entanglement concurrence to quantify the entanglement of the Dicke state. Using a more complicated poling configuration like multiple-periodically poled two-dimensional nonlinear photonic crystal, we can also produce four-path, five-path, or multipath Dicke states by a single crystal. The multiple-periodically poled two-dimensional nonlinear photonic crystal provides a new method, to the best of our knowledge, for the integrated generation of multipartite quantum light sources.

Due to the composition-dependent properties of two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), alloying of existing dissimilar TMDs architecture is a novel and controllable route to tailor crystal structures with superior optical and optoelectronic properties. Here, we reported the hexagonal-phase WSe1.4Te0.6 alloy can enable great promise for enhanced saturable absorption response exceeding the parent component WSe2 and WTe2, with larger modulation depth and lower saturable intensity. These advantages allowed the 1064 nm passively Q-switched lasers based on WSe1.4Te0.6 to be more efficient, with pulse duration narrowed to 45%, and slope efficiency increased by 232%. Our findings highlighted the appropriate alloying of TMDs as an effective strategy for development of saturable absorbers.

We demonstrate a method to substantially increase the observation duty ratio in temporal-magnification system without sacrificing the temporal resolution. 30% or even 100% observation duty ratio can be achieved on a 10-ns or longer waveform.

We demonstrate a graphene-alumina-graphene heterostructured semiconductor chip, on which THz plasmons are generated via backward phase-matched 2nd nonlinearity all-optically. The on-chip plasmons are effectively gate tunable, with photon-efficiency ∼10−4, and Q factor > 60.

We report the first correlation measurement between the twin beams generated by optical parametric process above threshold. This high-visibility correlation can be observed at significant power levels with up to a conversion efficiency of 19.7%.

We demonstrate a high efficiency mid-infrared laser source based on optical parametric oscillator (OPO) assisted by an intracavity optical parametric amplification (OPA). The OPA-assisted-OPO scheme was realized in one piece of commensurable dual-periodic superlattice in which the signal light generated from the OPO process serves as the pump light for the OPA process. A maximum output power of 508 mW at 3.92 μm was achieved under a pump power of 2.85 W at 1.064 μm. The pump-to-idler conversion efficiency is 17.8% and the slope efficiency is 23.8%, and the enhancements of them are 58.9% and 67.6%, respectively, comparing with the standard OPO scheme.

We report the fabrication of an MoS2 black phosphorus (BP) composite saturable absorber by liquid phase exfoliation and the spin-coating method and further exploitation to build a 2 μm passively Q-switched Tm:YAP laser. Such a composite based Q-switched laser with a duration of 488 ns and corresponding peak power of 85.9 W is obtained, which shows an improved saturable absorption effect than that of single MoS2 (616 ns, 68.7 W) and BP (932 ns, 22.4 W). The results indicate that simple and reasonable fabrication of the vertical composite from two-dimensional atomic layer materials opens up the possibility to create an unprecedented saturable absorber with exciting properties.

We theoretically analyze the generation of quadripartite continuous-variable entanglement, with different frequency, by cascaded nonlinear process in a quadruply resonant optical cavity. This process is realized by one optical parametric down-conversion operated below threshold cascaded by two sum-frequency generations in a quasiperiodic optical supperlattice. It shows that the signal, idler and two sum frequency modes are entangled according to the sufficient inseparability criterion proposed by van Loock and Furusawa. The quantum correlation spectra among these four modes versus normalized analysis frequency and nonlinear coupling coefficients are discussed as well in detail.

The production of quadripartite continuous-variable entanglement, with different frequency, is analyzed theoretically. This process is realized by parametric amplifier cascaded with a sum frequency generation in a quasiperiodically optical supperlattice, meanwhile, the nondegenerated optical parametric amplifier operated above threshold and the injection signal field with very small intensity is in coherent state. It shows that the four-partite of the pump, two subharmonic and the up-converted modes from the cavity is genuinely entangled according to the sufficient inseparability criterion proposed by Van Loock and Furusawa. Moreover, the entanglement characteristics versus different parameters are discussed as well in detail.

High-power blue light was generated from a diode-side-pumped Q-switched 1319 nm Nd:YAG laser with a periodically poled, stoichiometric LiTaO3 (PPSLT) crystal. The PPSLT sample used in this experiment consists of two segments in series: the first segment has a period of 14.08 μm for the second harmonic generation (SHG) and the second segment has periods of around 4.6 μm for the generation of blue light by mixing fundamental and SH. An average power of 466 mW of a 440 nm blue light was obtained at the fundamental power of ∼5.4 W with a conversion efficiency of 8.6%. The output power fluctuated by 3% over a half-hour period. This result indicates that our scheme is a practical method to construct a reliable compact blue laser.

We demonstrate single-photon frequency-upconversion using a titanium-infused periodically-poled lithium niobate waveguide by L-band erbium-doped fiber amplifier pump. Internal efficiencies up to 84.4% and dark-count rate of 44kHz are achieved with narrowband filtering down to 3.5GHz.

We demonstrate simultaneous lasing and parametric oscillation with high-Q (> 1010) MgF 2 monolithic microresonators. Stable lasing around 698nm is achieved with sub-25kHz linewidth and 8.8nm tuning range. Multi-pair hyperparametric oscillation is observed over 137.2THz span.

MgO-doped congruent Lithium Niobate (MgO:CLN) is widely used in a variety of nonlinear optical processes, while its Sellmeier equation has only been derived from experiments under 200oC. Here we extend the temperature range for the Sellmeier equation study to as wide as 60 oC to 510 oC. This work is important to extend the operation temperature range of MgO:CLN crystal.

Through advances in nanoscale device physics and precision engineering, here we contribute two frequency comb architectures of impact: firstly, the achievement of ultrashort coherent pulses on-chip and, secondly, quantum correlations in energy-time mode-locked two-photon states.

We exhibit high-dimensional frequency-bin entanglement from a mode-locked two-photon source via frequency-correlation measurement and Hong-Ou-Mandel interference. Generalized Bell-inequality is tested by Franson interference, showing revival interference fringes, with maximum visibility of 98.6%.

We demonstrate a low-threshold, visible light, resonant OPO with widely separated harmonics. Pumping a MgF2 resonator at 780nm we observe generation of harmonics at 50 and 100THz from the carrier. The process is phase matched due to interaction of different mode families of the resonator.

We propose a two-dimensional ${\ensuremath{\chi}}^{(2)}$ nonlinear photonic crystal capable of satisfying quasi-phase-matching conditions for two or three parametric down-conversions simultaneously. Seeded by a two-mode coherent state, this crystal can produce two-, three-, four-, or five-photon path-entangled states, provided the corresponding number photons are produced, i.e., in a postselection-free way. In particular, up to five-photon NOON state can be generated, which enables phase supersensitive measurements at the Heisenberg limit. The concurrent multiple quasi-phase-matchings provided by the nonlinear photonic crystal open up a way to integrated quantum light sources.

Lenses play a key role in quantum imaging but inevitably constrain the spatial resolution and working wavelength. In this work we develop and demonstrate a lensless quantum ghost imaging by engineering quadratic nonlinear photonic crystals. With a transverse parabolic domain modulation introduced into the lithium tantalate crystal, the entangled photon pairs generated from parametric down-conversion will self-focus. Therefore we can dispense with additional lenses to construct imaging in a nonlocal way. The lensless imaging is found to follow a specific imaging formula where the effective focal length is determined by the domain modulation and pump wavelength. Additionally, two nonlocal images can be retrieved when the entangled photon pair is generated under two concurrent noncollinear phase-matching geometries. Our work provides a principle and method to realize lensless ghost imaging, which may be extended to other wavelengths and stimulate new types of practical quantum technologies.

We report a scheme for mode-locked biphoton generation by engineering quasi-phase-matching materials. An aperiodically poled lithium tantalate is designed to supply multiple reciprocal vectors for two-photon frequency comb generation. Temporally, such two-photon state exhibits mode-locked pulse train. The two-photon pulse duration reaches 4.2 fs when the frequency comb is centered at 800 nm and covers 442 nm. The HOM interference of the mode-locked biphoton approaches a 1.26-$\ensuremath{\mu}$m dip and exhibits a reappearance of dip and peak, which can be taken as a new scheme for engineering quantum light source. Furthermore, we also design another aperiodically poled crystal to generate two sets of frequency combs. The HOM interference will appear as a revival of spatial beatings. The mode-locked biphotons suggest applications in precise time synchronization, quantum metrology, quantum optical coherence tomography, and quantum computing.

We propose a scheme for the generation of counterpropagating polarization-entangled photon pairs from a dual-periodically poled crystal. Compared with the usual forward-wave type source, this source, in the backward-wave way, has a much narrower bandwidth. With a 2-cm-long bulk crystal, the bandwidths of the example sources are estimated to be 3.6 GHz, and the spectral brightnesses are more than 100 pairs/(s GHz mW). Two concurrent quasi-phase-matched spontaneous parametric down-conversion processes in a single crystal enable our source to be compact and stable. This scheme does not rely on any state projection and applies to both degenerate and non-degenerate cases, facilitating applications of the entangled photons., 6 pages, 1 figure

We report an efficiency-enhanced mid-infrared generation via optical parametric down conversion. A tandem periodically-poled MgO-doped stoichiometric lithium tantalate crystal is used to realize on-chip generation and amplification of mid-infrared radiation inside an optical parametric oscillator cavity. We achieved 21.2% conversion efficiency (24% slope efficiency), which is among the highest efficiencies for the pump-to-mid-infrared conversion, with 1064 nm Nd class laser pump. The maximum average output power at 3.87 μm reached 635 mW with a 3.0 W pump.

Cavity phase matching has been recently demonstrated as a phase-matching method for efficient nonlinear frequency conversion in a microcavity. Here we extend it to the Type I configuration using a sub-coherent-length optical parametric oscillator consisting of an MgO-doped lithium niobate crystal sheet. It generates a tunable single-longitudinal-mode twin beam, which covers the cesium D2 line of 852.1 nm and the extended band of optical communication. This microcavity is capable of peak output power of 58 kW with a maximum conversion efficiency of 18.5%. Broad applications in the areas of light-atom interaction, spectroscopy, optical telecommunication, and quantum optics can be expected.

One promising technique for working toward practical photonic quantum technologies is to implement multiple operations on a monolithic chip, thereby improving stability, scalability and miniaturization. The on-chip spatial control of entangled photons will certainly benefit numerous applications, including quantum imaging, quantum lithography, quantum metrology and quantum computation. However, external optical elements are usually required to spatially control the entangled photons. Here we present the first experimental demonstration of on-chip spatial control of entangled photons, based on a domain-engineered nonlinear photonic crystal. We manipulate the entangled photons using the inherent properties of the crystal during the parametric downconversion, demonstrating two-photon focusing and beam-splitting from a periodically poled lithium tantalate crystal with a parabolic phase profile. These experimental results indicate that versatile and precise spatial control of entangled photons is achievable. Because they may be operated independent of any bulk optical elements, domain-engineered nonlinear photonic crystals may prove to be a valuable ingredient in on-chip integrated quantum optics.

We experimentally demonstrate a compact, all-solid-state 532 nm semi-Gaussian laser beam (SGB) source based on a 1064 nm laser and a transversely varying periodically-poled LiTaO3 (TPPLT) crystal as the laser beam shaper as well as the nonlinear frequency converter. We have used the designed TPPLT crystal to obtain a neat 532nm SGB with the quality of QSGB=1:17.5 by a single-pass second harmonic generation. The dependence of the generated SGB quality on the designed TPPLT parameter and the potential applications of the neat SGB are also discussed.

We theoretically studied nonlinear interactions between surface plasmon polariton (SPP) and conventional waveguide mode in nonlinear hybrid waveguide and proposed a possible method to enhance SPP wave via optical parametric amplification (OPA). The phase matching condition of this OPA process is fulfilled by carefully tailoring the dispersions of SPP and guided mode. The influences of incident intensity and phase of guided wave on the OPA process are comprehensively analyzed. It is found that not only a strong enhancement of SPP but also modulations on this enhancement can be achieved. This result indicates potential applications in nonlinear optical integration and modulations.

In this Letter, we demonstrate a nonlinear-mirror (NLM) mode-locked diode-pumped solid-state Nd:YVO4 laser operating at 1342 nm, in which the NLM comprises a periodically poled LiNbO3 crystal and a dichroic mirror. The self-starting threshold for cw mode locking is 1.5 W, which is significantly lower than that of saturable absorber mode locking. An average power of 1.52 W at 1342 nm is obtained under diode pump power of 10 W at 808 nm, with the slope efficiency being up to 16.8%. The pulse width and the repetition rate of the mode-locked laser output are about 9.5 ps and 101 MHz, respectively.

We experimentally demonstrate cavity phase matching for the first time using a sheet optical parametric oscillator which is made of an x-cut KTiOPO(4) crystal sheet. This microcavity presents 220 kW peak power capability for near-frequency-degenerate parametric outputs with up to 23.8% slope efficiency. It also features unique spectral characteristics such as single-longitudinal-mode and narrow linewidth. These attractive properties predict broad applications of such a mini-device, such as terahertz generation, photonic integration, spectroscopy, and quantum information, etc.

We experimentally demonstrate cavity phase matching for the first time using a sheet optical parametric oscillator. It presents unique features such as high power capability, high slope efficiency, single-longitudinal-mode oscillation and narrow linewidth.

We demonstrate a compact all-solid-state yellow laser source based on Q-switched dual-wavelength Nd:YAG laser and periodically-poled LiTaO(3) crystal. 589-nm yellow light was generated by single-pass sum-frequency generation of the fundamental IR waves at 1064 and 1319 nm. The maximum output power of yellow light was 506 mW and the corresponding conversion efficiency was approximately 5.5% [W(-1)cm(-1)].

Aperiodically poled nonlinear crystal can be used as a broadband continuous-variable entanglement source and has strong stability under perturbations. We study the conversion dynamics of the sum-frequency generation and the quantum correlation of the two pump fields in a chirped-structure nonlinear crystal using the quantum stochastic method. The results show that there exists a frequency window for the pumps where two optical fields can perform efficient upconversion. The two pump fields are demonstrated to be entangled in the window and the chirped-structure crystal can be used as a continuous-variable entanglement source with a broad response bandwidth.

Simultaneous optical parametric oscillation and intracavity second-harmonic generation based on a hexagonally poled lithium tantalate is reported. Both the optical parametric oscillation and the cascaded noncollinear second-order harmonic generation processes reach a high efficiency. A variety of possible self-doubling optical parametric oscillation processes indicate this hexagonally poled lithium tantalate has potential applications as a compact multi-wavelength light source.

We report on a study of a 698 nm extended cavity semiconductor laser with intracavity narrowband optical feedback from a whispering gallery mode resonator. This laser comprises an ultrahigh-Q (>10(10)) resonator supporting stimulated Rayleigh scattering, a diffraction grating wavelength preselector, and a reflective semiconductor amplifier. Single longitudinal mode lasing is characterized with sub-kilohertz linewidth and a 9 nm coarse tuning range. The laser has a potential application for integration with the 1S0-3P0 strontium transition to create compact precision atomic clocks.

Optical microresonators are ideal tools for the reduction of the threshold of optical parametric oscillation based on four-wave mixing. Usually, the efficiency and bandwidth of the resonant process are interdependent due to stringent phase matching requirements leading to limitation of the bandwidth of the spectrum generated for a given pump power. We demonstrate a continuous-wave low-threshold resonant optical parametric oscillator with optical spectral span ranging from 0.36 to 1.6 μm. Harmonic generation is observed when a MgF2 microresonator characterized by quality factor approaching 1010 is pumped either at 780 nm, with a standard distributed-feedback semiconductor laser, or at 698 nm, with a reflective amplifier. Pump power does not exceed 25 mW. The nonlinear process is phase matched due to χ(3)-facilitated interaction of different mode families of the resonator. The optical harmonics generated can be used to seed high-power visible lasers, generate correlated photon pairs, and perform spectroscopy measurements.

We report on a noncollinear red–green–blue (RGB) laser light source using a two-dimensional nonlinear photonic quasicrystal. The red and blue lights result from a green light pumped optical parametric generation process cascading two frequency doubling processes in a single-pass setup. Together with the residual green light, two sets of RGB lights were observed in a wide temperature range, which indicates a practical method for constructing a compact multiwavelength laser light source.

We propose a universal and practical scheme to realize polarization-free second-order nonlinear frequency- conversion processes, including sum-frequency generation, difference-frequency generation, and optical parametric amplification. This scheme is based on the optical superlattice with a noncritical phase-matching condition, which is suitable for optical integration. A chirped dual-period structure is proposed to ensure the efficiency and stability of the conversions.
