The main purpose of this article is to prove a logarithmic convexity estimate for the solution of a linear heat equation subject to dynamic boundary conditions in a bounded convex domain. As an application, we prove the impulsive null approximate controllability for an impulsive heat equation with dynamic boundary conditions.

We consider the inverse problem of determining initial data in general Ornstein-Uhlenbeck equations on the Euclidean space from partial measurement localized on the so-called thick sets. Using the logarithmic convexity technique and recent observability results, we prove new stability estimates of logarithmic rate for large classes of initial data. Such stability estimates are crucial when dealing with the numerical reconstruction of initial data. Our analysis covers both cases: the analytic Ornstein-Uhlenbeck semigroup on $L^2\left(\mathbb R^N, \mathrm{d}\mu\right)$ with invariant measure $\mu$, and the non-analytic Ornstein-Uhlenbeck semigroup on $L^2\left(\mathbb R^N, \mathrm{d} x\right)$ with the Lebesgue measure. We treat general equations with a diffusion matrix and the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck equation with fractional diffusion in the latter case. In this paper, we continue the investigation on the connection between observability and inverse problems for a class of parabolic equations with unbounded first order coefficients. We prove new logarithmic stability estimates for a class of initial data in the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck equation posed on $L^2\left(\mathbb{R}^N\right)$ with respect to the Lebesgue measure. The proofs combine observability and logarithmic convexity results that include a non-analytic semigroup case. This completes the picture of the recent results obtained for the analytic Ornstein-Uhlenbeck semigroup on $L^2$-space with invariant measure.

We investigate the inverse problem of numerically identifying unknown initial temperatures in a heat equation with dynamic boundary conditions whenever some overdetermination data is provided after a final time. This is a backward parabolic problem which is severely ill-posed. As a first step, the problem is reformulated as an optimization problem with an associated cost functional. Using the weak solution approach, an explicit formula for the Fr\'echet gradient of the cost functional is derived from the corresponding sensitivity and adjoint problems. Then the Lipschitz continuity of the gradient is proved. Next, further spectral properties of the input-output operator are established. Finally, the numerical results for noisy measured data are performed using the regularization framework and the conjugate gradient method. We consider both one- and two-dimensional numerical experiments using finite difference discretization to illustrate the efficiency of the designed algorithm. Aside from dealing with a time derivative on the boundary, the presence of a boundary diffusion makes the analysis more complicated. This issue is handled in the 2-D case by considering the polar coordinate system. The presented method implies fast numerical results.

In this paper, we are concerned with the boundary controllability of heat equation with dynamic boundary conditions. More precisely, we prove that the equation is null controllable at any positive time by means of a boundary control supported on an arbitrary subboundary. The proof of the main result combines a new boundary Carleman estimate and some regularity estimates for the adjoint system, with an explicit dependence with respect to the final time. This technique allows us to overcome a new difficulty that arises when absorbing a normal derivative term.

In this paper, we prove a logarithmic convexity that reflects an observability estimate at a single point of time for 1-D heat equation with dynamic boundary conditions. Consequently, we establish the impulse approximate controllability for the impulsive heat equation with dynamic boundary conditions. Moreover, we obtain an explicit upper bound of the cost of impulse control. At the end, we give a constructive algorithm for computing the impulsive control of minimal $L^2$-norm. We investigate the link between inverse problems and final state observability for a general class of parabolic systems. We generalize a stability result for initial data due to Garc\'ia and Takahashi [16], known for the case of self-adjoint dissipative operators. More precisely, we consider a system governed by an analytic semigroup. Under the assumption of final state observability, we prove a logarithmic stability estimate depending on the analyticity angle of the semigroup.
