Two novel coumarin-based pyrazoline derivatives have been designed and synthesized as organogel factors. Organogelators Z 1–2 both have gelation behavior in alcohol solution and DMSO. Gel- tert -butanol Z 1–2 (CGC = 1.84%, 1.41%) fluoresce blue and yellow-green under ultraviolet irradiation, respectively. Z 1–2 both exhibit selectivity for response to Fe3+ in THF-deionized aqueous (V: V = 9:1) solution, meanwhile display high sensitivity. Notably, introducing diethylamino at 7-position the coumarin unit increases the detection line range in Z 2. Furthermore, Z 2 not only has a good biocompatibility in living cells but also the sensing behavior of Fe3+ in the cell nucleus. The coordination mechanism of gelators Z 1–2 and Fe3+ were performed at the DFT level. • Two novel organogels were synthesized which alkyl chains of different lengths. • Non-covalent bond provide a good driving force for gel self-assembly. • The Zn2+ responsiveness experiment is completed and confirmed by UV spectrum. Two Salen type Schiff based on o-phenylenediamine were synthesized. The prepared organogelators demonstrated excellent gel properties in some selected solvents, such as n-pentanol, chloroform, and 1,2-dichloroethane. Five naphthalene-type chalcone organogelators with different hydrophobic alkyl units, were designed and synthesized. The prepared organogelators demonstrated excellent gel properties in some selected solvents, such as cyclohexane, tert -Butanol, isooctane, and isopropanol etc. The results for thermal stability showed that the alkyl chain length attached to the chalcone also had an important influence on the gelation behavior. Under identical concentrations increasing the length of alkyl chains of the gel molecules and then the gel-to-sol transition temperature value is increased too. It has found that the hydrogen bonding between molecules, the van der Waals force and the π-π stacking provide multiple driving forces for gel self-assembly using various techniques. The morphology of the xerogel was investigated by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). As the length of the carbon chain increases, the dry gel tends to form a lamellar network structure. A smart low-molecular-mass organic gelator based on naphthalene-pyrazoline has been designed and synthesized. The gelator G can form a thermo reversible stable gel in tert -butanol, cyclohexane, cyclohexanol, and DMSO through self-assembly, it emits blue and yellow-green fluorescence under ultraviolet radiation. Notably, it has multiple stimulus responses of light, heat, shock and ion. In addition, it could act as an efficient fluorescent probe for the selective sensing of Cu2+ in the solution containing water. • A series noval chalcone derivatives (G b1–6) as gel factors were successfully synthesized. • The gels can be used for the stimulation response of hydrazine hydrate. • The gels can be used to identify fuel adulteration. • The gels can be used to recovery of spilled oil from oil-water mixtures. A series of novel naphthalene-chalcone gelators, G b1–6 , with different alkyl units, were designed and synthesized as potential low molecular weight gelators. The prepared gelators demonstrated gelation behavior in various organic solvents and fuel phases. The results indicated that the alkyl chains played a significant role in the gelation behavior of the gelators. The thermal stability results revealed that, at the same concentration, an increase in the length of the alkyl chains of the gelators led to an increase in the gel-sol transition temperature. The gelators were subjected to FT-IR, SEM, and XRD analysis, which demonstrated the presence of π-π stacking, van der Waals forces, and hydrogen bonding during the self-assembly process of the gel. UV–visible absorption and emission spectroscopy of the gelators were also studied, and it was discovered that gelators G b2 and G b5 exhibited a minimum detection limit of 0.28 μM and 0.16 μM, respectively, for hydrazine hydrate.
