Methods: A standardised data extraction form was devised in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis, with specific criteria implemented for selecting studies with low to moderate risk of bias. Results: Five studies involving different methodologies were selected at the conclusion of the search strategy. The statistical analysis revealed an estimated odds ratio (OR) of 0.31 and relative risk (RR) of 0.48, indicating a statistically significant association between the use of radiotherapy and anti-neoplastic drugs and a noticeable reduction in the successful completion of orthodontic treatment. The heterogeneity analysis showed significant heterogeneity among the studies. Conclusions: This review emphasises that, although orthodontic therapies can still be beneficial for children receiving chemotherapy, the effectiveness of the therapy may be diminished in older populations. BACKGROUND: Microesthetics in orthodontics, which focuses on subtly and precisely enhancing a patient’s smile’s esthetics, has seen a rise in popularity in recent years. The objective of this systematic study was to assess our present understanding of orthodontic microesthetics. METHODS: A thorough search was done using the terms “microesthetics in orthodontics,” “aesthetic orthodontics,” “orthodontic aesthetics,” and “orthodontic smile design” across different databases. Articles published between 2011 and 2022 were considered for selection in this review. RESULTS: Five studies were selected for the review. The meta‑analysis found a statistically significant and clinically relevant improvement in microesthetic parameters due to orthodontic treatment. The odds ratio estimate was 0.32 (95% confidence interval (95% CI): 0.28 to 0.37), suggesting a noticeable effect of orthodontic treatment on microesthetic parameters. The forest plot also showed an overall risk ratio of 0.57 (95% CI: 0.53 to 0.61) and a risk difference of ‑0.28 (95% CI: ‑0.31 to ‑0.24) for noticeable versus negligible effects of orthodontic treatment on microesthetic parameter in patients. The heterogeneity was significant among the studies, with a Chi‑square value of 15.34 (P = 0.004) and 14.79 (P = 0.005) for the odds ratio and risk difference, respectively, indicating a moderate level of heterogeneity. CONCLUSION: The results of this study’s review and meta‑analysis point to a statistically significant and clinically meaningful difference in the microesthetic parameters between individuals who received orthodontic treatment and those who did not. Infection control is essential to protect both the doctor and the patient by preventing the spread of infectious diseases. There is no exception in the field of dentistry, particularly in orthodontics, where numerous appliances are used for a variety of functions and also because the mouth cavity has the highest concentration of bacteria of any body part. Through this systematic review, we aimed to assess the various methods of sterilization employed in an orthodontic setting. Using relevant keywords, reference searches, and citation searches, the databases such as PubMed, MEDLINE, Web of Science, Cochrane, and Scopus were all searched; a total of 206 documents were found, of which 113 were initially selected. The remaining 23 distinct papers were initially made available after 90 publications that were identical to or similar to one another were eliminated. The final selection was made from eight documents that met all inclusion and exclusion requirements. The existing methods of sterilization were found to be competent in dealing with the microorganisms found in a typical orthodontic setting. The chemical method of sterilization was the norm in most of the studies that we assessed, with glutaraldehyde and peracetic acid (PAA) being the most commonly employed compounds for disinfection. A variety of metals and alloys are employed in the field of orthodontics, primary of which happen to be the construction of wires. Through this systematic review, we aimed to assess the various metallurgical characteristics of the said metals and alloys. Four hundred and eighty‑two documents in total were found after a thorough search of the online journals, and 169 of the papers were initially chosen. Ultimately, 16 documents were selected that satisfied the necessary inclusion and exclusion criteria, primarily in vitro studies, literature reviews, and comparative analyses. NiTi alloy was found to be the most commonly used alloy in construction of orthodontic wires across all the studies that we had selected for our review. It also had better performance and consistency in terms of its usage as depicted by the meta‑analysis performed, with stainless steel wires being a close second primarily due to its lesser cost compared to the former. Metallurgy and orthodontics are inextricably linked with one another. The various components of orthodontics such as wires, pliers, and other instruments utilize the metallurgical characteristics of metals and alloys that are specially prepared for the challenges of this field. The nutritional needs already increased by adolescent growth, activity, and stress are further exacerbated by the physical, physiological, and psychological stress that orthodontic treatment causes. Hence, the main objective of this systematic review was to analyze the relationship between adequate nutrition and its impact on orthodontic treatment success rates. Using relevant keywords, reference searches, and citation searches, the databases such as PubMed–Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online, Web of Science, Cochrane, and Scopus were all searched. “Diet,” “Minerals,” “Nutrition,” “Orthodontics,” and “Vitamins” were the search terms used to scour the database. The 10 studies selected for the systematic review and subsequent meta‑analysis could not conclusively establish the correlation between proper nutrition and its impact on orthodontic treatment of the patient. There was virtually little connection between patients’ dietary intake and the effectiveness of their orthodontic treatment. Coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID‑19), which has affected almost all medical professions, has had a significant negative influence on dental care. Additionally, non‑urgent dental procedures were stopped during the epidemic in a number of countries. The purpose of this systematic review was to examine the impact of COVID‑19 on individuals who had undergone or are currently having orthodontic treatment in any capacity during/after the pandemic’s occurrence. After a thorough search of the online journals, a total of 634 documents were found, and 416 of the papers were initially chosen. The removal of 362 similar or duplicate publications that followed led to the initial availability of 54 separate papers. The final selection consisted of 23 documents, mostly in vitro investigations, cross‑sectional studies, and comparative evaluations, which satisfied the necessary inclusion and exclusion criteria. COVID‑19 had a significant impact on nearly every sphere of the patients’ lives who were undergoing orthodontic treatment. However, people who are currently availing of various orthodontic treatment modalities did not experience the same issues as the ones faced by patients earlier. The majority of patients strongly favor the use of aligners in the present time, especially with the advancement in esthetic dentistry. Today's market is flooded with aligner companies, many of which share the same therapeutic ethos. We therefore carried out a systematic review and network meta-analysis to evaluate research that had looked at various aligner materials and attachments and their effect on orthodontic tooth movement in relevant studies. A total of 634 papers were discovered after a thorough search of online journals using keywords such as "Aligners", "Orthodontics", "Orthodontic attachments", "Orthodontic tooth movement", and "Polyethylene" across databases such as PubMed, Web of Science, and Cochrane. The authors individually and in parallel carried out the database investigation, removal of duplicate studies, data extraction, and bias risk. The statistical analysis demonstrated that the type of aligner material had a significant impact on orthodontic tooth movement. The low level of heterogeneity and significant overall effect further support this finding. However, there was little effect of attachment size or shape on tooth mobility. The examined materials were primarily concerned with influencing the physical/physicochemical characteristics of the appliances and not tooth movement directly. Invisalign (Inv) had a higher mean value than the other types of materials that were analyzed, which suggested a potentially greater impact on orthodontic tooth movement. However, its variance value indicated that there was also greater uncertainty associated with the estimate compared to some of the other plastics. In the end, 14 papers, including in vitro experiments, literature reviews, comparative analyses, observational studies, and retrospective studies, were chosen that met the requisite inclusion and exclusion criteria. There were difficulties related to orthodontic treatment in all of the studies listed in our systematic review, but their severity varied greatly. The effects of gingival mucosa and root resorption were two of the most often mentioned periodontal problems in this review. Technology is rapidly evolving in the modern world, and the accompanying developments due to its influence are shaping each and every aspect of our life, with the field of orthodontics being no exception. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to examine such trends in orthodontics and hypothesize which ones would emerge and continue in the near future. After a thorough search of online journals using keywords such as "3D printing," "Aligners," "Artificial intelligence," "Future trends," "Orthodontics," and "Teleorthodontics" across databases of PubMed-MEDLINE, Web of Science, Cochrane, and Scopus, a total of 634 papers were initially recovered. Technological advancements in 3D printing, Computer-aided design and Computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM), biopolymers and Teleorthodontics were the most important categories of development seen across the 17 studies that we selected for our review. All the investigations selected for this systematic review depicted aspects of orthodontics that were influenced by rapid technological changes and could potentially become mainstream in the coming times. However, caution was sought to be observed in the usage/adoption of some of these trends, with social media usage amongst both patients as well as orthodontists being a prime example of this. Patients' decisions regarding orthodontic treatment are influenced by a variety of factors, such as their subjective opinions of how their oral cavity looks, age, gender, educational level, and income. The present study aimed to measure the orthodontic treatments needs for the Saudi Arabian population, and also to report potential barriers towards it. It is an observational study with cross sectional design. Data was collected from nationals and residents living in Saudi Arabia and who are at least 18 years old. A total of 1184 adult patients (880 females and 304 males) were included in this study. The population for the study was reached and chosen using a non-probability snowball sampling method. A validated and reliable questionnaire was distributed to the participants electronically through google form. Inferential statistics was applied using Pearson Chi Square test. p value < 0.05 was considered significant. The majority of the sample (73.2%) exhibited a favorable attitude toward orthodontic treatment. Most participants including male and female gender wanted orthodontic treatment primarily to have their protruding teeth fixed. The proportion of persons who cited chewing difficulty as the reason they needed orthodontic treatment was strongly influenced by the monthly income variable (p = 0.005). Cost and time of orthodontic therapy were the biggest obstacles to undergoing treatment, accounting for 34.5% and 19.5%, respectively. There was highly significant difference between the underlying medical conditions and the age and monthly income variables (p = 0.000). Based on the findings of the present study, it can be concluded that protruding teeth are the most important treatment needs perceived by the Saudi population, followed by spacing in between teeth, crowding of teeth, and unaesthetic smile. This study aimed to analyze the existing literature on how artificial intelligence is being used to support the identification of cephalometric landmarks. The systematic analysis of literature was carried out by performing an extensive search in PubMed/MEDLINE, Google Scholar, Cochrane, Scopus, and Science Direct databases. Articles published in the last ten years were selected after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria. A total of 17 full-text articles were systematically appraised. The Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions (CHSRI) and Newcastle-Ottawa quality assessment scale (NOS) were adopted for quality analysis of the included studies. The artificial intelligence systems were mainly based on deep learning-based convolutional neural networks (CNNs) in the included studies. The majority of the studies proposed that AI-based automatic cephalometric analyses provide clinically acceptable diagnostic performance. They have worked remarkably well, with accuracy and precision similar to the trained orthodontist. Moreover, they can simplify cephalometric analysis and provide a quick outcome in practice. Upper airway assessment is particularly important in the daily work of orthodontists, because of its close connection with the development of craniofacial structures and with other pathologies such as Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS). Three-dimensional cone-beam computed tomography images provide a more reliable and comprehensive tool for airway assessment and volumetric measurements. However, the association between upper airway dimensions and skeletal malocclusion is unclear. Therefore, the current systematic review evaluates the effects of different surgical movements on the upper airway. Materials and Methods: Medline (PubMed, OVID Medline, and EBSCO), Cochrane Library (Cochrane Review and Trails), Web of Knowledge (social science, and conference abstracts), Embase (European studies, pharmacological literature, and conference abstracts), CINAHL (nursing and allied health), PsycInfo (psychology and psychiatry), SCOPUS (conference abstracts, and scientific web pages), and ERIC (education) databases were searched. Two authors independently performed the literature search, selection, quality assessment, and data extraction. Inclusion criteria encompassed computed tomography evaluations of the upper airway spaces with retrospective, prospective, and randomised clinical trial study designs. To grade the methodological quality of the included studies a GRADE risk of bias tool was used. Results and conclusion: In total, 29 studies were included. Among these, 17 studies had a low risk of bias, whereas 10 studies had a moderate risk of bias. A meta-analysis was performed with the mean differences using a fixed-effects model. Heterogeneity was assessed with the Q-test and the I2 index. The meta-analysis revealed significant (p ≤ 0.001, 95% confidence interval) increases in upper airway volume after rapid maxillary expansion and surgical advancement for the correction of Class II. Failure of brackets is a common problem in orthodontics. This affects the treatment time, cost, and compliance of the patient. This study was conducted to estimate the bracket failure rate and the related factors for the long term. Methodology. This ambidirectional cohort study included 150 nonsyndromic orthodontic patients undergoing fixed appliance therapy for the last two years. The same patients were followed for 7 months. Different variables related to bracket failure were evaluated. The available data were analyzed descriptively, and the Kaplan-Meier estimate was used to measure the bracket survival rate from the date of bonding to failure. Results. A total of 180 bracket bond failures in the 150 included patients (52.2% males and 47.8% females) with a median age of 17 years (range 10-25 years). 69% of brackets failures were reported within the first 6 months after bonding. About 58.3% of bracket failure was noticed in adolescent patients before the age of 18 years. The majority of the cohort (81.1%) has good oral hygiene. The failure rate in patients with normal overbite was 41.1%, in decreased overbite cases was 15%, while in deep bite cases the failure rate was 43.9% with a statistically significant difference. Adults show less bracket failure (41.7%) than adolescent patients (58.3%). More bracket failure was noted in the lower arch (55%) than the upper arch (45%), and there were more bond failures posteriorly (61%) than on the anterior teeth (39%). Majority (41.1%) of the bracket failed on round NiTi wires. Conclusion. The bracket failure rate was 6.4%, with most bracket failure occurring in the first 6 months after bonding with individual difference. Around half of all malocclusions that need orthodontic treatment are Class II in nature. Patients with Class II malocclusion primarily seek treatment for aesthetic improvement. Most of the skeletal Class II malocclusions are because of mandibular deficiency, and can be best treated during the growing phase of development by removable functional appliances. The objective of this review is to evaluate and compare skeletal and dentoalveolar effects of various removable functional appliances in the treatment of Class II malocclusion. Manual and electronic databases were searched, and out of 5,711 articles, 221 abstracts were shortlisted and reviewed. A total of 19 articles that fulfilled the selection criteria was then retrieved and analyzed. A significant increase in mandibular length and dentoalveolar effects with an increase in vertical dimension in a short time was observed with Twin-Block appliance treatment, followed by Bionator appliance treatment. The long-term stability of results achieved with Twin-Block appliance treatment is still questionable. In addition, Frankel appliance treatment effects are more skeletal in nature, with better control in the vertical dimension. However, it takes a more extended treatment duration to produce similar effects. Based on available evidence, we are convinced that removable functional appliances are valuable tools for correction of the Class II malocclusion at a growing age with a horizontal growth pattern. Introduction: Patient is a 14 years old Chinese boy presented with skeletal Class II with incompetent lips, severe dental Class II malocclusion and severe crowding complicated with both sides mesio-angular impacted of mandibular 2nd molars. Treatment Plan: Growth modification using functional appliance for skeletal Class II correction with maxillary arch expansion and correction of mandibular plane angle by intrusion of maxillary molars. Extraction of lower 1st premolars and 2nd molars on both sides was carried out in conjunction with fixed orthodontic alignment and to facilitate of spontaneous eruption of lower third molar. Midline correction was followed by space closure and finishing and detailing. Results: Alignment of upper arch in the regained space with maxillary expansion without any extraction was done. Anterior maxillary dentitions were retracted using Temporary Skeletal Anchorage Devices (TSADs). In lower arch 1st molars were mesially protracted by using class II elastics. 3rd molars spontaneously erupted in the extraction space of 2nd molar. Midline corrected with good facial profile and competent lips. Conclusions: Timely execution of expert treatment plan can bring cost effective and time saving results with minimum loss. By proper counseling, patient compliance and confidence can be boosted which could have a positive effect on the treatment outcome. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To establish the cephalometric (Ceph.) norm by Ceph. for orthognathic surgery (COGS) analysis for Saudi population. Material and Methods: 500 adult Saudi samples (250 males and 250 females) with the age range of 18-30 years old were selected for this study. The selections of samples were based on a normal occlusal relationship, no history of facial trauma and no previous orthodontic treatment. Lateral Ceph. radiographs were tracing by CASSOS software and analyzed by SPSS software according to COGS analysis. Results: Significant differences were showed between the Saudi males and females on most of the Ceph. parameters. The Saudi males had a convex facial profile with chin prominent and more bimaxillary protrusion, upper and lower lip protrusion than the Saudi females. Conclusion: This study evaluated the craniofacial morphological difference between the male and the female population in Saudi Arabia by using COGS analysis. The finding of this study will help for better diagnosis of orthodontic and orthognathic surgical treatment planning and identify the morphological facial characteristics of Saudi patients. Objective: To reconnoiter the IL-1A (-889) and IL-1RN (+2018) gene polymorphisms and their association with EARR. Material and Methods: The Science Direct, PubMed and Scopus databases were comprehensively searched by two independent reviewers. In addition, the bibliographies of all relevant publications and textbooks were searched manually. A meta-analysis was performed using data available up to May 9, 2020. Results: A total of 13 and 9 publications were selected for the systematic review and metaanalysis, respectively for both IL-1A and IL-1RN genes. Odds ratio (OR) was used to evaluate the association of the gene polymorphism and the risk of EARR. The risk of EARR was estimated using the overall OR from the published studies. No association was found for IL-1A gene for the risk of EARR. However, the dominant and co-dominant models of IL-1RN gene polymorphism were associated with the risk of EARR. Conclusion: More studies are warranted to determine the relationship between IL-1A and IL-1RN gene polymorphisms and EARR for a clearer understanding of their interactions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To assess the soft tissue characteristics of Bangladeshi adults to formulate soft tissue 3D CT standards using Holdaway's (HA) and lip morphology (LM) analyses. Another aim of this study was to assess the gender dimorphism of Bangladeshi population. Material and Methods: One hundred and seventeen (Eighty-five men and Thirty-two women) Bangladeshi adults have obtained their computed tomography (CT) scan at the Radiology Department for normal diagnosis. Craniofacial deformities were undetected in all cases. The CT images were prepared by a 3D imaging programming software (Mimics 11.02 Materialise). Parameters from the identified landmark points were measured in 3D through this software. Results: Upper lip thickness (ULT) (vermillion UL-A point) measurement was significant in HA and in LM analyses, upper lip protrusion (ULP) (Ls to Sn-SPog) measurement has demonstrated significant difference among both genders, where p-value was less than 0.05. Mean measurements of Bangladeshi adults were relatively comparable except the face convexity (FC) when compared with the HA cephalometric soft tissue values. Conclusion: By using HA and LM analyses, 3D CT soft tissue standards were established for Bangladeshi adults. Measurements for all parameters have remained equivalent with the HA standard data apart from the FC measurement. Objective: To compare different stainless steel (SS) saw blades in terms of time taken to cut a block of plaster, roughness of the sawed plaster surface and sawing efficacy of blades in terms of challenge to cut plaster. Materials and methods: 40 participants of different dental specialties volunteer in the study. Each participant was given a standard plaster block to cut with six different saw blades fitted in coping dental saw. Time to cut a complete vertical slice of plaster, smoothness of the sawed surfaces and challenge to cut efficacy of blades were evaluated by using descriptive analysis. A Kruskal-Wallis H test was used to evaluate whether statistically significant difference exists between different saw blades in terms of time efficacy and smoothness of sawed surface. A one-way ANOVA was used to analyze challenge to cut efficacy of different blades. Post Hoc analysis was also used to evaluate multiple comparisons in sawing efficacy in terms of challenge to cut of different blades. Results: There was statistically significant difference between blades in terms of time efficacy and challenge to cut efficacy with hardened stainless steel blade having 17 teeth per inch (TPI) was more effective than other blades. Though blade A having 40 TPI performed better in terms of surface smoothness but there was no statistically significant difference between different blades in this regard. Aim The prime aim of the study was to generate a new formula to predict mesiodistal width of maxillary canines. Materials and methods The selected sample consisted of 128 subjects with the ages ranged from 18 to 24 years. A total of 1024 variables were measured. Dental models of each subject for maxillary and mandibular arches were scanned via digital stereomicroscope for the fabrication of the digital models the mesiodistal and buccolingual width of maxillary and mandibular canines were carried out via digital models. Results Highly positive correlation was found between mesio-distal width of maxillary and mandibular canines with an establishment of valid clinical prediction of mesio-distal width of maxillary permanent canines depending on their corresponding mandibular canines in each gender. The new formula was developed for the prediction of mesiodistal width of maxillary canine (MDMaxC) from the mesio distal mandibular canine width (MDMCW) as Y = 3.060 + 0.696 × (MDMCW), Y = 3.867 +0.589 × (MDMCW), Y = 3.517 + 0.607 × (MDMCW). The new formula was developed for prediction of MDMaxC from BLMCW as Y = 6.015 + 0.281 × (BLMCW), Y = 6.569 + 0.213 × (BLMCW), Y = 6.250 + 0.229 × (BLMCW). Introduction: In orthodontic treatment, three-dimensional (3D) dental casts has a significant role in diagnosis and treatment planning. The aim of this study was to evaluate Pont's index predictability in orthodontics. Materials and Methods: Premolar arch width, molar arch width and mesiodistal width of the maxillary incisors were measured three-dimensionally to assess shape of dental arches. The data source was cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) high volumetric data acquisitions from Malay ethnic background. Arch widths were measured and recorded from 53 subjects (32 male and 21 female with the mean age, 25.81), both the maxillary and mandibular arches, to obtain CBCT high volumetric data. All measurements were obtained through CBCT Planmeca Romexis TM Software 2.3.1.R (Helsinki, Finland). Results: Pont's formula overestimated the upper and lower interpremolar distance, with mean differences of 8.35 ± 3 mm and 12.02 ± 3.20 mm, respectively. Furthermore, the formula overestimated the upper and lower intermolar distance, with mean differences of 7.87 ± 3 mm and 16.14 ± 5.86 mm, respectively. Conclusions: The results indicate that Pont's index is not practical for use with the Malaysian population since the index overestimated interpremolar and intermolar widths. In the contemporary era, the demand for orthodontic treatment is ever rising. Orthodontic treatment duration can range from a year to a few years. Our aim is to assess the available techniques of categorising treatment effectiveness in patients with cleft lip and palate (CLP) and to study their effect on improvement of treatment outcomes. The electronic databases including Medline- PUBMED, Science Direct, and ISI Web of Knowledge were searched from 1987 to 2013, and 40 311 relevant articles were found. Of these, we identified 22 articles including original articles as well as literature reviews. The different parameters and indices that are applied to speed-up orthodontic treatment outcomes in patients with CLP were identified as the GOSLON Yardstick, 5-year-old index, EUROCRAN index, Huddart Bodenham system, modified Huddart Bodenham system, GOAL Yardstick and, Bauru-Bilateral Cleft Lip and Palate Yardstick. This overview can create better awareness regarding the uses, advantages, and disadvantages of the different indices. It can enable better assessment and provide the impetus needed for a sustained upgrade in the standards of care for CLP in daily orthodontics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective. The prime aim of the study was to measure and compare the 3D CBCT Bolton tooth size ratio in relation to the upper and lower arch widths, arch length and arch perimeter. Materials and methods. The data source was CBCT high volumetric data from the archives. Tooth size, arch widths, arch length and arch perimeter were measured in maxilla and mandibular arches. The independent t-test and ANOVA were used for statistical analyses. Results. The female Bolton anterior ratio (BAR) (78.373) and Bolton overall ratio (BOR) (93.231) show a greater tooth size ratio in comparison to male BAR (77.162) and BOR (93.124), respectively. However, no significant difference was found in the sexual comparison of all the measurements. Tooth size ratio in arch width groups also showed no significant difference. Significant discrepancies in the arch length ( p < 0.05) groups and overall ratio and in the arch perimeter groups ( p < 0.05 and p < 0.01) and anterior ratio were revealed. Conclusions. To investigate the presence and/or agenesis of third molar (M3) tooth germs in orthodontics patients in Malaysian Malay and Chinese population and evaluate the relationship between presence and/or agenesis of M3 with different skeletal malocclusion patterns and sagittal maxillomandibular jaw dimensions. Pretreatment records of 300 orthodontic patients (140 males and 160 females, 219 Malaysian Malay and 81 Chinese, average age was 16.27±4.59) were used. Third-molar agenesis was calculated with respect to race, genders, number of missing teeth, jaws, skeletal malocclusion patterns and sagittal maxillomandibular jaw dimensions. The Pearson chi-square test and ANOVA was performed to determine potential differences. Associations between various factors and M3 presence/agenesis groups were assessed using logistic regression analysis. The percentages of subjects with 1 or more M3 agenesis were 30%, 33% and 31% in the Malaysian Malay, Chinese and total population, respectively. Overall prevalence of M3 agenesis in male and female was equal (P>0.05). The frequency of the agenesis of M3s is greater in maxilla as well in the right side (P>0.05). The prevalence of M3 agenesis in those with a Class III and Class II malocclusion was relatively higher in Malaysian Malay and Malaysian Chinese population respectively. Using stepwise regression analyses, significant associations were found between Mx (P<0.05) and ANB (P<0.05) and M3 agenesis. This multivariate analysis suggested that Mx and ANB were significantly correlated with the M3 presence/agenesis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The objectives of this study were to determine the amount of orthodontics and the type of appliance used for orthodontic treatment by our general dental practitioners (GDP). We also would like to find out their opinion about orthodontics in general. Materials and Methods: 620 questionnaires were distributed to the GDP mainly in the Klang Valley and Johore. 107 (17.26%) completed replies were received. Descriptive statistic analyses were done for all the questions in the questionnaire. Results: The results showed only 17% of the respondents were practicing orthodontics. Most of the GDP (59%) agree that the undergraduate orthodontic syllabus is not adequate. Seventy percent of the GDP feel more fixed orthodontic courses should be available for them. The result also confirms, most GDP who practice orthodontics were using fixed appliance (52.9%) compared to removable appliances. Conclusion: In conclusion majority of the respondents agree that universities should expand the orthodontic syllabus to include fixed appliances. They also would like to have more orthodontic courses available to them as a continuing educational programme. The Accelerated osteogenic Orthodontics (AOO) is an emerging contemporary approach for rapid movement of teeth. The acceptable length of orthodontic treatment is contested, however the need for speeding appears to be universally agreed upon. Various surgical adjuncts have been developed to expedite orthodontic tooth movement and to retain optimal occlusal results while shortening treatment timeframes. Despite this, a variety of crucial treatment decisions and approaches may have a greater impact. The purpose of present case study is to suggest a minimally invasive novel orthodontic Loop-guided Piezocision (OLP) approach for quick movement of teeth, without reflection of the flap, with higher precision and minimum postoperative problems. This technique may aid in preventing orthodontic relapse, broaden spectrum of malocclusion correction.
